Virus.
« on: September 30, 2014, 10:49:38 PM »
I need help.  I don't have enough money for an anti-virus anymore and I can't get rid of all these malware viruses.  Anyone have a program that will do it for me free?   I tried exterminate it.  Sadly I have to pay for it.

That's productive.  Thanks.  :/   I've had this PC for about 5 years now.   I clean it out.  But it has just recently been bombed by one virus that I can't find and it just started filling my PC with others.

- Check your startup folder for junk and clean it up. (Msconfig in start-run)
- Check your process list for anything suspicious.
- Check your software list and uninstall everything you don't use or looks suspicious.

Oh and last but certainly not least: Get rid of all "anti"virus programs and start using windows defender and your common sense only.
Believe it or not, but "anti"virus programs cause more maleware than they fix. In fact, did you know that most virusses are even made by the same companies that make antivirus programs? It's a fucking conspiracy like: "buy or program or deal with our virus"

Seriously though, how do you get viruses? I haven't had one since I was 10 and downloaded the first exe I found when trying to pirate a game. If you told me you'd give me $1,000 if I could get a virus in the next hour, I'd be out of luck. I have no idea where to find one, aside from research pages. I run MSE, but I've never once had it trigger, common sense must be the best anti-virus.

This is the first time I've gotten a virus.  It started a few months ago with another post I made about malware.   Something got on my computer somehow and I am having trouble getting rid of it.  I had avast but it ran out and it did not tell me it did for some odd reason.

Last time I got a virus was roughly around 5 years ago actually, it was still on my old Vista laptop.
I was looking for a .APK file download for my android device (Because fuck paying for apps) and when I clicked on a suspicious link my laptop automatically rebooted and it got one of those virus thingies where it "locks" your computer because of downloading piracy and you have to pay XXX to get it unlocked again.

Simply starting it in safe mode and running a system recovery from the day before solved the problem. :P

If it's this persistant then I would just do a full wipe of the hard drive and clean install Windows. It's a pain in the arse but it will solve the problem.

Never trust an antivirus claiming it has removed a virus, the first and only time I got a virus and it was claimed to have been cleaned; I wiped my whole system to remove the chance of a keylogger getting my passwords

Everything must be clean. Everything must be clean. Everything must be clean. Everything must be clean. Everything must be clean.
That shit is OCD mate! But I do understand. When I got a shitty virus a few months ago, I wiped my hard drive and changed every single password I could remember. Over the years, that is a lot of passwords!
