Let's revive the Outlands (A call to the community)
« on: July 25, 2012, 07:01:33 AM »
Hey everyone. I would like to say first off that the developers and all else included have done a fantastic job on the Outlands, there are even weather effects. It's a beautiful server that is the antithesis of City 45, making the two contrast nicely.

Constraint often allows for refined writing which is why I've loved the City for so long, but the Outlands is about unrestrained creativity. I've seen people with robotic arms, fully functioning cars, medical doctors with pistols for self-defense, gillie suit-clad snipers who were not Combine; I've crouched around a fire during a storm, and got lost in the wilderness all in the first day.

Why am I making this? The outlands server is almost always abandoned.
This is a call for the community to consider making Outland characters. Some of you may know that Greg "Castles" is doing an event to get people into the server. This is not a closed event! But this thread isn't about Greg.

Come to the Outlands! Consider it! Veteran players, come on the server with me when there's only a few people and bullshit and light role-play to keep the thing warmed up so other players will consider joining when they see a player count that at least has a pulse.

I'm making a call to the community to finally breathe life into the Outlands, this is your chance to be the beginning of a new era in HL2RP. The server is ripe for the formation of new groups and new players with their own stories and struggles. I feel I have exhausted a lot of my creativity in City 45 (I've played too damn much, and I know some of you have too damn it!)

So please, join me sometime and let's play. My steam profile is suttreetoadvine, you'll see Atticat come up. Add me, and message me if you wanna go on the server.

We have the community
We have the competency
We have the creativity

Please, consider joining something and let's make these excellent two servers even better.

I agree with everything you've said, The Castle moving to OL should help. I've got a really interesting character (in my eyes anyway) that I want to develop on Outlands but there's never anyone on which always puts most people off of playing. I completely agree and would encourage people to start getting onto Outlands and having some fun trying another type of RP in contrast to "get yelled at by units or hide in p3" RP which sprouts from the City

Thanks for responding SMT (:. Your encouragement excites me that this is a near and possible hope. I'm planning to spend a great deal today interacting with Castle's event on Outlands. I really hope to see you there and you don't know how cool it is that you responded to this and are interested. Thank you.

I still liked Outlands better back when it was Canals. It has nothing to do with the map itself, but the Roleplay was generally more interesting then. Last time I made an Outlands character, I was raped three times in one day. I understand that in order to get to the good roleplaying in Outlands, you have to find a group of people to RP with, but I can't seem to make it ten steps without someone attempting to A. Mug me B. Rape me or C. Kill me.

Which is why I really want to roleplay and develop my character as I find him 10x more interesting than the majority (not all) of the characters I see on OL, it's just hard when there's 2-3 players on and they're afk :(

I did a little roleplay with "Beans" and it was a fun time being apart of his group.

I'd be happy as hell to have another person join in and especially a good role-player like yourself Yak! Outlands provides a lot of opportunities for roleplay like having a peg leg or a missing arm etc. There are many, many possibilities to the characters we can craft.

I've got to admit that I'm really excited about moving to the Outlands, the city has gotten extremely boring for me. Nowadays I find that I don't enjoy running the bar, I don't enjoy meandering around Precinct Three, and I can't set foot in Precinct One anymore because if I do my character will be hauled off to the Nexus in a heartbeat. The city has just gotten real old for me and I really am looking forward to the change of scenery.

The Outlands is just a whole different ballgame. I find that the roleplay is much more slow paced which I like because it gives me a chance to develop my character and choose my responses. I've found that in the city I end up talking in three different conversations to six different people and I never am able to actually ACT like my character. So I'm happy that I'll finally be able to develop my character's personality and everything that goes with making a unique character.

I will definately, I was playing on it a few months ago. But then I had my internet downgraded so I couldnt really play GMod. When I came back a few days ago ive only been playing in the city.  I am happy to see though that my Outlands character is still up.

Today was amazing. The event was a great success. A herd of people were escorted across the outlands by an assortment of derelicts until we were attacked by OTAs. It was a good time. A base has been set up and there is a lot of room for forming your own groups and debating about the systems of government that you may want to use. Hope to see more of you on soon.

Now that I hear people joining the outlands now, and how interesting it is. I'll be joining the outlands more often now.
