Mongol-Combine Comparison
« on: March 25, 2012, 08:28:43 AM »
The Combine and the Mongol Empire aren't very different... They both conquered cities swiftly and efficiently. And if you go by HL2, both later fell apart by rebelions. But the Combine brought stability to the world. So did the Mongol's Kubilai Khan, though that was only some of Europe and Asia. And they both let the previous occupants live in their countries. Who here thinks that Valve used the Mongol Empire to model the Combine? The only significant difference is that one was existing in 1260 and the other in 2015.

Mongols didn't use the portal storms as a reason to invade. Or advanced alien weaponry. Or super soldiers and synthetic life. Or already have all the worlds population bunched into cities.

Well looking at the Half Life series at the moment, the rebels are winning, but they have not won yet. Hopefully a verdict would be made when EP3 (Or maybe Half Life 3) is made.
The combines did not bring stability in the world, since the majority of the animal life has been destroyed due to species being introduced into the world, the combines were probably far more crueller than than the Mongol empire.
Clearly racist.

Not the same, similar. And I already adressed this, they are separated by the technology of their times.

Combine always reminds me of the Nazi Germany.

This. I was actually making links between the two the other day.

Yeah, with the mass genocide and stuff.

I do see the Mongol Empire and the Combine as fairly similar. They came and swiftly conquered a large amount of territory, just the combine did so on a much larger scale.

Yea, except the Mongols seemed to bring stability to trade later on. The Combine just killed everything and ruined lives.

They seem more like the British empire, but much, much, crueler and advanced. Expand and colonize. Or conquer. The British Emp. also lost a colony (or 2, my history is rusty) to rebellion.
