• using lamps to cast shadows along with http://facepunch.com/threads/1112981 to make them a whole deal better
• scenebuilding - use props to create the scene instead of relying on a map (aside from my first and also my most recent screenshot on this thread, i've used gm_flatgrass and props/effects to build the scene - it's a lot better than scouring for the right map as you can just construct it from your imagination, given that you have the needed content)
• using super depth of field to focus on a specific part of the screenshot - you can set the blur intensity and range, try not to go overboard with the intensity
• turn up your graphical settings to the maximum when you're taking the screenshot and put "jpeg_quality 100" in console (no a png isn't better for taking gmod screenshots)
• personally i'd never touch them but you can use photo editing software to manipulate your screenshots such as adding in gunfire or smoke - it's hard to pull off correctly without it looking very flat unless you're experienced w/ photoshop and the like
