Metropolice Force / Re: <::|| Civil Offences and Contraband ||::>

// if the penalty for attacking a metropolice unit is summary execution then people will think "why not just kill them" since they literally cannot get a worse sentence

The issue with that logic is, basically anyone who assaults a Metropolice Unit will kill them if they win the fight. The only real exception are people who are trying to just escape, which is capital malcompliance and will, again, result in level 1. I would still say, though, that unless the unit is hospitalized, the punishment should still just be on the heavier side of 2 or the lighter side of 1.

Table Talk / Re: Brain fuck: Chances.
« on: February 20, 2014, 09:31:13 PM »
I have a different view on how chances work, based on how I was taught statistics. I'm going to start with the dice example because I am not entirely sure what you meant by two prices.

So with the dice example, what you are saying is that you start with a 1/6 chance of getting a 6 on a roll, and when you add another roll, it changes to a 2/12 chance, which reduces down to 1/6. The math being used behind this is that 1/6 + 1/6 = 2/12. This is not how fraction addition works; however, it is instead 1/6 + 1/6 = 2/6, reduces down to 1/3. That means your chances have indeed doubled.

The logic you are using where you are changing the possible results to 12 rather than 6 is the idea that you are increasing your possible roll results to 12, but in reality that is also wrong. This is where Statua's argument comes into play, that you are actually increasing the possible results to 36 not 12, because there are 62 as many possible results, not 6 * 2. This only matters when you are looking at possible combinations, though, and you stated that you are simply trying to get a 6 on one roll. This means that the chances that you will roll a six on either stays at 1/6.

Now the lottery example is the same case, although only because you stipulated that there are two separate lotteries. Assuming you only care about winning one and you draw from both, the chances are 1/10,000,000 + 1/10,000,000 = 2/10,000,000 which becomes 1/5,000,000. Had it not been stipulated that the lotteries were separate and you drew from the same one, it would instead be 1/10,000,000 + 1/9,999,999 = 2/99999990000000 reduces down to 1/499999995 (I think). This is because once you have eliminated one ticket from the pool via the first drawing, the second ticket has a slightly higher chance of winning (Assuming the lottery does multiple draws that is).

edit:
My explanation didn't seem quite right to me, because by the rules as I stated them, if you roll a 6 sided die 6 times, you have a 100% chance of rolling them, and rolling 7 times would give you over 100%. I haven't had any statistics training so the complex methods of adding probabilities isn't really something I'm good with, but a roundabout way of determining probability is to multiply the probability that it WON'T happen. For example, there is a 5/6 chance you won't roll a 6 each time you roll, so 5/6 * 5/6 = 25/36 which comes out to be just over 2/3, which when subtracted from one gives you the probability it will happen, which is just under 1/3, or 11/36.

I could never get a tattoo because needles and me have a rocky relationship, but if I did I would totally get one like that. I think the tattoo is awesome and I totally support your reasons behind it.

That tat is sweet and gets my seal of approval.

Sucks for you guys that are afraid of bees n spiders. I remember I use to pinch bees in a certain way that if they tried to sting me, it would just hit my finger nail so I wouldn't get hurt. I'd then torture them and shit just for fun. It was a lot of fun

You know there's actually a term for that, that trends in serial killers. Most serial killers torture animals as a kid/teen, before moving onto a serial killer. They call it acceleration. (Learned that from a book I read a while back called "Acceleration" It's a good read.) Just putting that one out there.

Not saying you're going to be a serial killer, just thought someone might care to know.

Lol, that's funny because my friends say that I'm going to grow up and become a serial killer.

Sociopaths don't tend to be serial killers, they tend to be one time violent offenders if anything. Sociopaths generally have anger problems and lack the subtlety to actually pull off multiple murders before being aprehended. So you're more likely to be a rapist or assault someone Cow, so don't worry.

Not that any of this has anything to do with phobias.

I've never understood the fear of bees myself, as I actually have an avid interest apiculture and want to raise bees and shit. Never been afraid of them.

Merinthophobia- Fear of being bound or tied up.

Hadephobia- Fear of hell.

Batophobia- Fear of heights or being close to high buildings.

And I hate being lost, it makes me feel sick and I can't stand it.

Merinthophobia? Your picture suggests otherwise. Probably because I missed the context of it.

As for Hadephobia... **WARNING: This is going to be a little painful for Catholics/ect** But I am a firm believer that there is no such thing. And therefore you have no reason to fear it.

Phobias are all irrational fears of something, so Hadephobia is no weirder than any other ones listed here. Logically speaking, someone who fears the dark probably knows that no monster is hiding in the darkness to eat him, and someone who fears heights probably knows that if tall buildings were a huge safety risk, precautions would have been taken. Despite logical reasoning, the fear still exhists, so all fears have little to no reasonable basis, yet exhist anyways.

Also, Hadephobia could also potentially refer to simply a fear of karma, and that negative actions you perform could cause you pain and suffering down the road. Although that's more of a stretch.

Finally, you haven't posted YOUR phobias yet Dallas. You should get on that.  :D

Achluophobia- fear of darkness

Halitophobia- fear of bad breath

Hadephobia- fear of Hell

Philophobia – fear of love

Taphophobia, Taphephobia – fear of the grave, or fear of being placed in a grave while still alive

Thermophobia – aversion to heat.

Negrophobia – fear/dislike of Black people(Jk)

Psychophobia – fear/dislike of mental illness or the mentally ill.(this is real)

Quite the list, I know.

You are one scared S.O.B. Although not sure "fear of bad breath" belongs in quite the same category as "fear of hell". I would be interested in hearing the story of how you developed a few of the fears on your list or your reasoning behind having them. Especially psychophobia, taphophobia, and halitophobia. If its not too personal please do share. :D

I have a massive fear of mind altering drugs. Thoe being the obvious like LSD, laughing gas, cocian, weed, ect.. I suppose the fear comes from me being a control freak, I hate not being able to control things.

First and biggest example of this fear I can remember is when I was told in one of my health classes in middle school that drug addicts would sometimes put LSD on stickers to get it into them. I have not worn any stickers to this day due to that statement, just in case.

Suggestions / Re: Medic Improvements

About the CPR, feel free to correct me where I'm wrong but I have a few points to raise. While chest compressions are good for postponing death until the paramedics could arrive, paddles are always better for actually fixing what is wrong with the heart. The only exception I can think of is if the person's heart is only missbeating, not actually stopped, in which case I don't know if paddles or AED is preferable. Regardless, this means if you are already there with paddles, there isn't really a reason to continue with chest compressions, so keeping paddles wouldn't be unrealistic. After the paddles are used, the only possible remaining issue, as far as CPR is concerned, is if their breathing doesn't come back with their heartbeat. Then its not a matter of chest compressions as suggested though, but rather of mouth-to-mouth or assisted breathing with an apparatus.

The only was I could see this being more realistic is if you inserted the little "minigame" as something people around a severely injured/unconscious person have to do to sustain life in the person for an extended period of time. It makes more sense since a citizen wouldn't have the equipment on themselves to save the person, and CPR would really be all they could do.

Other than those specific things, and even if those issues aren't adressed I +support this. The times I have tried to play on medic I've found myself wishing there was more to healing people than just waving my magic medi-gel pad and making everything better, and I think this interface would make the job a lot more appealing.

With the AED you still need to continue chest compressions.  The AED stops fibrillation and corrects the heart beat.  Chest compressions are still needed in reviving the person.  Mouth to mouth isnt used anymore now a bag valve mask or CPR mask is used to prevent disease spread to the first responder or victim.

I am the supervisor in the emergency services org for EMS and statua is the head of EMS in our org.  I STRONGLY support this suggestion as it would improve the medic's job immensely.  The ambulance is dreadfully slow and needs to be faster and have all round upgrade.  The ambulance needs at least 1 seat in the back preferably 2.  So if two medics are riding in one ambulance (which they should as its more effective) then there needs to be space to transport patients to the hospital.

With the AED you do if it doesn't work the first time, yeah, but they aren't using the AED, they are using paddles. And mouth to mouth isn't used but I was just using it to refer to the mask. I'm a lifeguard so I know we use valves now, or sometimes special pumps. I've also used an AED so I know that it requires chest pumps most of the time, but I was never trained with paddles so I suppose its possible CPR is needed for paddles, but I was under the impression that once paddles were used chest pumps gave way to repeated shocks.
