First off, I just want to say one thing: thank you.

If it wasn't for Catalyst Gaming, I wouldn't be living the life I'm living right now. I would have never lived the way I have the past 15 months if it wasn't for this community being a part of this game.

In May of 2013, I met a stranger who ended up becoming my whole world. One day while in OCRP, I was introduced to a girl by the username of "nikkihagen" by a friend in-game who was going to join my organization. She didn't talk much, but she seemed like she was nice, but kind of shy. She didn't really speak much, and I didn't really know what to say to her. I hate when people try and act "cool" around girls online to try and get nudes or whatever from them, and I was never going to be that kind of person. A few days went by after meeting her, and I added her on Steam because she was a member of my organization, so I figured it would be a good idea to have a way of contacting her. Never would I have imagined that this girl would be so special.

We eventually began to Skype; first with some of my friends, but eventually alone. I started to slow down my gaming and look forward to seeing her everyday, simply because we always had amazing conversations that went long into every night. I enjoyed her company, and I began feeling a way I've never felt before. I enjoyed Skyping with her more than some of my best friends, and more than playing my favorite games. I would sit and wait for her to come home from school, and she'd sit and wait for me to come home from baseball practice at night. It was a strong friendship, and a kind of friendship I never had with anybody before.

On July 1, 2013, I asked her if she'd be willing to try a long distance relationship with me. I told her that I have always disagreed with them and never wanted one for myself, but that she gave me feelings that I had never experienced before. I told her that I was willing to try something to "see where it would go," and that I would stay committed to her if she would stay committed to me. She immediately said "yes," and I can honestly say that the rest was history.

The hardest part about the relationship (I'm sure you could guess this) was that we were 1600 miles away from each other. I live near Chicago, Illinois, and she lives in Alberta, Canada, an entire different country. However, we never let that get in between us. We spent every single day on Skype together, talking non-stop about our daily lives and our future together. We dreamed of meeting and being able to love each other physically, but we never knew when (or if) that would ever happen. In March of 2013, though, I bought a $600 flight ticket to go and spend two weeks with her.

On July 15, 2014, having dated for over a year online, I boarded a flight to Canada. There, I met the love of my life. I can swear that I have never been more happy than I was when I got to spend those days with her. We were able to hug, kiss, and just be physically near each other for the first time ever. It was amazing. Sadly, on August 1, 2014, I had to fly back home. It was by far the saddest moment I've ever experienced, having to watch her disappear into crowd in the airport as I walked to my terminal. I had never cried more in my life.

After being home for a few days, I purchased another flight ticket to go and see her again. On December 19, 2014, I will get to spend another two weeks, and two holidays (Christmas and New Years), with her and her family. I'm beyond excited, and can't believe that I will have the opportunity to spend time with her yet again.

I'm not here to brag, to make someone feel jealous of me, or anything like that. I'm here to simply thank RoflWaffle and everyone who made Catalyst Gaming what it is for allowing my life to turn out this way. I met her in CG's server, and she is not a gamer by any means. That was the first time she had played, and one of the only. Meeting her was simply luck. As for our future together, in roughly a year and a half, as long as everything stays the way it is (which I have no doubt it will), she will be buying a one-way ticket to me and moving in with me in an apartment. It seems like a ways to go, but we've already gotten halfway there.

Here are some pictures of my girlfriend and I together:

Spoiler for Hiden:

Once again, thank you, Catalyst Gaming.

Suggestions / Engine Startup Sound
« on: May 12, 2013, 12:29:05 PM »
We should definitely implement a startup sound when starting the vehicle. Having it simply start after pressing R is boring and doesn't tell anyone outside of the vehicle if you're actually starting it or not.

Bug Reports / RP Names
« on: May 03, 2013, 06:44:52 PM »
People are able to make/change their names using lowercase letters and special characters. For instance:

  • Adam caz
  • adam Caz
  • adam caz
  • Adam Caz:)

Shouldn't be too hard of a glitch to fix. My only concern is what about the people who are currently using one of those names?

Fixed Bugs / Equipping a deagle
« on: April 28, 2013, 01:23:29 PM »
What happened when the bug occurred?
I gave my friend a deagle, and he equipped it and it disappeared. I gave him another to test it again, and it again disappeared.

What was supposed to happen?
He should have equipped a deagle.

Picture/Console Errors:
None.

Suggestions / Police Computer -- Improving Realism
« on: April 23, 2013, 02:19:14 PM »
I've got a few ideas that could help improve the realism of the police computer:

  • Doors
    • Remove "OWNED BY: NAME" and replace it with the name of the property and "OWNED" if it has already been purchased. If it is your own property, then state "NAME".
      • This will enhance the usage of the police computers to check owned buildings.
  • Vehicles
    • Remove "OWNED BY: NAME" completely. If it is your own vehicle, then state "NAME".
      • This will enhance the usage of the police computers to check license plate numbers.

Also, a miscellaneous suggestion:

  • Make vehicle headlights able to be toggled via a desired button. My use button, for instance, has always been set to "F", so when I get in and out of a vehicle, my headlights keep turning on and off.

Fixed Bugs / Bugs Following Release
« on: April 21, 2013, 01:30:13 PM »
Bugs:

  • Most of the vehicle scripts are very screwed up. One big one are the police cruisers.
  • While mayor, even with $500 in the city safe, cash blocks show with a red font as if you can't purchase it even though you can.
  • Invisible radios appear around town and can't be turned off. I can hear them from the suburbs, and they are stuck somewhere in the city.
  • Many cop cars don't have license plates, while others do.
  • Fishing rod causes console error spam.
  • The Social Player award gets awarded to those who already received it, and it also repeats multiple times when the server gets full.
  • Move the job of the person to right under their OOC name, rather than much higher above their IC name.
  • More to come as I find them...

Suggestions / Suggestions Following Release
« on: April 21, 2013, 01:25:45 PM »
Suggestions:

  • Allow the cash register to be bought via an NPC. Mayors lose out because people are forced to have Carpentry Crafting to have a cash register to make their shops legal.
  • The cellphone should be able to be moved, as it blocks the messages that pop up on that side of the screen.
  • An in-game rules list should be in the "Q" menu.
  • Make the chat in the chatbox smaller and able to hold more lines.
  • Remove IC names from the OOC chatbox.
  • Completely remove the blue jumpsuit outfit and have a different default model.
  • Add a timer to show the time left while crafting.
  • Add furnace as a requirement for those items that need it.
  • Add a number to the bottom right or left of the picture of an item in your inventory telling you how much of an item you have, rather than having to highlight it to see the amount.
  • More to come as I think of it...

News and Announcements / New Forum Rank Images
« on: February 23, 2013, 12:29:25 PM »
Well, it's been a while since we've changed anything visually on the forums, so I took it upon myself to create new and improved forum rank images.

Here's a list of the new images (listed alphabetically):

Constructive feedback is as always welcome. Enjoy!

Introductions / I'm Back!
« on: August 27, 2012, 09:44:59 PM »
After a lengthy leave of Catalyst Gaming, I'm back to where it all began.

I've had some really good memories here and proud to say that I was there the day this community kicked off. I want to leave whatever issues I had with others in the past and start fresh. I have partial Developer status at the moment, and I have created the HUD for both the Fortwars and OCRP2 servers. I hope to eventually return to my Administrator position sometime in the near future once I prove myself again.

Thank you all who have already given me a warm welcome, and I hope the rest of you can as well. See you all in-game! :)

Can't seem to figure out how to fix this. Using a new account since Garry fucked my old one.

General Discussion / I'm done...
« on: December 11, 2011, 07:43:03 PM »
And this time, I'm not going to return as an administrator or developer.

I'm tired of the bullshit in which RoflWaffle brings upon this community. He causes so many problems, and he even admitted he doesn't care about losing important people in the community. This type of leadership is not something I care to see. Therefore, I'm done, and I don't feel like going in much more detail.

Lastly, Adam S., you're an asshole.

News and Announcements / [OCRP] Rule Clarification
« on: November 28, 2011, 11:27:20 PM »
A lot of discussion has been going on about a certain rule, and in private, we have decided that...

When coming to an intersection and you are greeted with a red light, you may turn right on the red light.

Some things to note:
  • This only applies to right turns.
  • You MUST make a complete stop and yield the right of way (meaning you must let other cars coming from the left or turning in front of you turn before you proceed).

If you have any questions as to why this is the way it is, we would be glad to answer them. Please however don't begin a heated debate over it as it has been set which way this rule will be played. Hopefully this post will prevent anyone from posting anymore threads regarding this.

News and Announcements / [PLAN] Servers Page Update
« on: November 06, 2011, 06:04:01 PM »
Me and Somone77 are going to be starting a new project which includes the renovation of the Garry's Mod Servers page. Our plan is to make them efficient with more information given specifically for each server. A layout of what we are going to replicate is picture below:

Unclicked

Clicked banner box

Clicked "Lottery"

Here are some things to know about these images:
  • When clicking the banner or any of the information links, a slide-out animation will be seen to bring the new box into view.
  • All red words are links.
  • Links will be changed to correspond with each server.
  • If you were to have clicked "Forum Section", rather than "Lottery", you would be taken to the forum section that corresponds to that server.
  • If you were to have clicked a different button, rather than "Lottery" (and not "Forum Section" or "Rules"), the "Lottery Information" section would be replaced with more information specific to that server.

Comments and/or suggestions are welcomed!

General Discussion / Possibly Returning
« on: October 29, 2011, 09:51:41 PM »
After a long leave from Catalyst Gaming, I feel the need to come back for quite a few reasons:

1. I've finished my term as "Co-Owner", if you will, at Virtual Freedom, and feel that going there was a huge mistake on my behalf. I realize now that most of what RoflWaffle says about people, especially when it comes to Albert, is true.
2. Now that I'm free from doing any kind of "forum work" for any community, Catalyst Gaming is the only one that interests me.
3. I've come to like HL2RP a bit since trying the server out for the first time and would rather return to the community to better understand the customs that come along with the gamemode.
4. I miss Catalyst Gaming, and my biggest regret was leaving my highly honored position as a Developer. I feel that I helped get this community started with RoflWaffle, as I was indeed the person who actually created his forum account when making the forums. Although that doesn't mean anything directly to the community, it tells me personally that I can say that I did something that affected this community's history.

I still think back to the reason I left Catalyst Gaming, and can't believe what I was thinking to give it all up. RoflWaffle was indeed a big factor for my leaving, but believe it or not, I have talked to him quite often even after my leave.

I hope that some (hopefully all) of you will accept my return to Catalyst Gaming. This return does not mean I automatically want to be named "Developer" again, but it does mean that I hope that I can contribute enough to be named such a position in the future, along with maybe becoming an Administrator in game as well. For anyone who would like to review my leave thread, created on June 10, 2011, please click here.

Thanks for reading, and I hope all of the past has been cleared up. If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to ask below.
