Social Discussion / Electronic Arts in a Nutshell: The Satire
« on: June 01, 2012, 06:33:40 PM »
I found this lying around on memebase, and it could not be any more true.  I'll just leave this here without much more comment.

The other day, me, Triv, and someone else (Sorry for forgetting your name  :'( ) were on a weekly patrol of the Outlands when we suddenly got ambushed.  Twice.  Every time, no matter how hard I tried, I could not help but lolheadshot them.  There are two reasons for this:

1.  The training we receive (Both the OTA and CCA) focuses on S2K.  It is completely unrealistic (In RP standards) because we are never trained to shoot to miss.  You can tell us and punish us in the field to make us S2M, but when our training instructs us to S2K, you can't fix instinct.

2.  WHAT ARE YOU ALL DOING SHOOTING AT US IN THE FIRST PLACE?!  Seriously, the two people that I "accidentally" headshotted suddenly cried out in OOC as if I had just pulled a Gordon Freeman on them.  The first time might have been instinct, but the second time I was definitely shooting to miss.  In either case, my statement to all anti-citizens is:  If you shoot at us, you are putting forth that you are just as willing to die as you are to kill us.  If that is the case, then don't bitch in OOC when we shoot to miss and end up killing you with a lucky headshot.  On top of that, you can't always expect us to shoot to miss, especially when, realistically, we have the capability to put a bullet through your head from 100 meters away.

While this is just my opinion, I am inclined to say that it is a FACT that Pink Floyd is the greatest rock band to have ever existed.  Give this a listen:

Denied Authorizations / James Wong's Authorization Application

Steam Name: Hazard Time
Age: 18
How long have you been Roleplaying? (can be any game): 3 Years
How long have you been playing Serious GMod RP?: 2 Years

Character Section

Authorization(s):
Medical knowledge

Name: James Wong
Age: 48
Gender: Male
Affiliation: Civil Workers Union

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.
James Wong was born in Seattle to Taiwanese immigrant parents.  His father was a dentist, and it was from him that James gained an interest in medicine.  After high school, he was applied for a scholarship to Stanford, where he was accepted.  It was there that he studied medicine, earning his doctorate in clinical surgery.  After graduating, he took a job at the local hospital in the Trauma center, where his surgery skills were tempered and honed.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?
Perks
Upon joining the CWU, James will be able to open clinics and treat citizens legally.  With the right equipment he can save anyone's life.

Defects
Without proper equipment, his skills will be close to useless.

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
If I am granted medical authorization, I plan to have James join the CWU, where he can practice medicine legally.  While not supportive of the CCA's policies, he feels that rebellion is pointless.  I have formerly had a CCA character who was in SHIELD, so I will be able to RP it correctly.

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))
No.

Which server does this apply for?

Extra Notes (optional):

~IC PART~
Full Name: James Wong
Citizen identification(CID): 51149
Last Assigned Apartment Number: A1
Total Loyalist Points: 0
Sex: Male
Age: 48

How long have you been in City45:
It will be three weeks tomorrow.

Why do you want to join the CWU?:
To offer my medical expertise to the city.  I studied medicine at Stanford and I wish to share it with the community.

Have you ever been detained before?(If so why):
No.

Past experience with work/labor:
None.

Name 4 things the CWU Can possess, and 4 things we cant. Also state why.:
Can possess: Radios (To communicate), medical supplies (For treating injured citizens), machines (For increased ease of work), and UU marked food (To sell or consume)

Can't possess:  Weapons (Level one contraband), vortigaunt slaves (CPs only), kevlar (Again, CPs only), non-UU food (Level three contraband)

Tell us about what you can do.:
I was a surgeon pre-war, and I wish to put it to use.  My specialty was trauma, but I can do other things.  I wish to be of good use to this city and aid care for it's citizens.

If a citizen asks for help and is new to the city, what would you do?:
As a civil worker, it would be my duty to show them around and orient them with the different districts, unless it interferes with important business.

~OOC Section~
Name: Hazard Time
Timezone: GMT -8
SteamID: STEAM_0:1:23502890
Roleplay Experience: Three years
Serious Roleplay Experience: Two years
Detail a regular day as a worker of the CWU?:
It depends on your division.  As business, most of your time would be spent selling general goods and food to the citizens.  At the end of the day, profits would be counted, inventory taken, and all sales would be reported to the organizer.  Business is the largest division of the CWU (//I wonder why...)
I plan to go into the Medical division.  As a medical CWU, I will be spending most of my day manning a clinic.  On slow days, I might treat mildly injured citizens, but most of the time I will only be able to treat those who are critically injured.  Medical workers are the only citizens allowed medical equipment.

Character Backstory:
James Wong was born in Seattle to Taiwanese immigrants.  As time went on, he applied and received a scholarship to Standford University, where he studied medicine.  It was here that he took an interest in and soon majored in trauma care.  After graduating, he worked at local hospitals in the trauma centers.
At the time of the Seven Hour War, James and several other doctors hid in the basement, where the electric generators were able to sustain them for some time.  They were eventually found by a CP patrol that took them to the nearest train station.  Several trains and boat rides later, and James found himself somewhere in Eastern Europe in a city known only as City 45.  Having never been to Eastern Europe, James was awed by the beauty of the architecture.  While not supportive of the Combine's policies, he isn't courageous enough to resist, wishing instead to use his knowledge to help ease his fellow citizens' pain.

Support & Help / Error 1606
« on: April 26, 2012, 07:28:40 PM »
The first time I got this error was when I tried downloading a Java update.  It could not continue because "Error 1606, could not access network location".  Later, I started cleaning up my PC and uninstalling shit when I got the same error trying to uninstall C&C 3.  I looked it up, but all the websites that offer software to fix it are rather dubious and try and make me register.  I've run CCleaner and TweakNow Powerpack multiple times.  Does anyone else have any ideas?  Besides reinstalling Vista?

Support & Help / Requesting Skyrim Glitch Tips (XBOX 360)
« on: April 07, 2012, 11:37:17 PM »
If you have Skryim for the XBOX 360, and you happen to know a way around/fix this glitch, then please tell me.  The name of the mission is The Forsworn Conspiracy, which is notorious in all three systems as being incredibly glitchy.  According to the Skyrim wiki, the PC and PS3 have sure-fire fixes, but the XBOX is trickier.  Does anyone know how to avoid walking into the Temple of Talos and NOT meeting the guard who frames you for killing the guy who gave you the mission?

<::|| Unit 350, rank 01 of NOVA division.  I thought I would start keeping logs of my patients, like insurance in case the High Command want evidence.  I'll start about a week ago:  //Dates are OOC.

Case 00001:
Unit: N/A
Date: N/A //Can't remember date or name
Details:  When the city went red after some dumbass citizens thought they actually had a chance at throwing us out of the city, Unit X and Commander 03109 entered the airlock to attempt to break up a mob that was forming outside of the Nexus.  Before they had a chance to step out, they were swarmed by angry citizens.  Someone tell those idiots not to attack a High Command unit with an AR2.  Unfortunately, Unit X got in the crossfire and his arm was raked by dark energy bolts.  He suffered severe nerve damage, but nothing that I couldn't repair.  He is expected to make a full recovery.

Case 00002:
Unit: 531
Date: N/A //Same date as last case
Details:  I don't know the full background, but officially, 531 was shot by 03109's AR2.  His shoulder was badly mangled, and his pinky and ring vapor were vaporized as was his left foot.  Something tells me this wasn't an accident, but I'm not one to get involved in High Command affairs.  I was able to patch up his shoulder and give him a synthetic foot, although he will have to continue service without his left pinky and ring finger.  He can cry me a river.

Case 00003:
Unit: 337
Date: 3/9/12
Details: I responded to reports of units receiving fire from District 6.  When I got there, I was referred to 337 who had been shot in the left bicep.  He was high on adrenaline and refused treatment at first.  It took lots of persuasion but I finally dragged him off, reluctantly, to the medical bay, where I removed the bullet.  Further study concluded it was 9 x 19 millimeter parabellum.

Case 00004:
Unit:  498
Date: 3/9/12
Details:  Those citizens never learn.  This time, however, they appeared organized.  A large mob of them held the Nexus under siege until we fucked their shit up.  Some rebels decided to join in the fun and some units took damage.  Elite Protection Unit 498 was my case.  He took shrapnel to his abdomen and had lost a lot of blood.  Almost immediately after I got him on the operating table, he went into cardiac arrest.  A concerted effort by Officer 918 and I resulted in 498's survival.  We were able to get the shrapnel out soon after, and Officer 604 appeared quite pleased.

Case 00005:
Unit: 480
Date: 3/10/12
Details: I don't know the background, but I responded to reports of an explosion in the GRID Mechanical Operations Center.  There, I located 480, who had been performing some kind of experiment before I had arrived.  The result of a chemical reaction gone wrong, I observed first degree burns on his face and hands.  Before I sedated him, he wouldn't stop talking about sabotage.  Once I got him to the medbay, I used his thighs as donors for a skin graph, which was successful.  I would have preferred him to stay in bed, but the persistent bastard got right up and back to work.  I have to respect him.

Case 00006:
Unit: 480
Date: 3/11/12
Details: Just a follow up surgery for 480's burns.  Removed excess scar tissue and sewed him back up.  He should be good for service.  However, for the first few weeks I would discourage strenuous activity lest he tear his sutures out.  ||::>

General Discussion / Mass Effect 3
« on: March 06, 2012, 11:47:05 PM »
If you're not European, chances are you probably have Mass Effect 3 at this current date (3/6).  I know my friends have it, and it would be an understatement to say that they were foaming at the mouth the entire day.  When I got home and went on Yahoo, wouldn't you know it that there was an article on how awesome Mass Effect 3 is.  I was reading the comments and one comment popped out at me.  The commenter talked about how the user ratings for the game were tanking like MW3.  I went on metacritic and sure enough there were hundreds of unfavorable user reviews.  I did some research and I found another article claiming that metacritic had been coming under attack recently by trolls who would purposefully rate new games 0.  I doubt that over 300 trolls would organize and purposefully rate this game 0 for the lulz, but still, I can't tell who to trust.  If any of you have Mass Effect 3, could you perhaps give me your review?

Media / Hazard's Thesis on Modern Music
« on: February 16, 2012, 08:46:18 PM »
Let me just start this off with a well-known fact:  The modern music industry has been tanking as of late.  I don't care if you like pop, rap, metal, or some underground experimental band that you are self-assured that no one else has heard about, everyone can agree to this.  This is why I write my thesis:  The modern music industry is tanking because of lack of emotion, dishonesty, and profit motive.
Firstly, let me just get down to the lack of emotion in modern music.  Back in the seventies, music was driven by the artist's emotions at the time that he/she was writing it.  For exhibit A, let me introduce Queen's "Under Pressure".  I still get chills every time I hear the crescendo.  In modern music, I'm just not getting any "vibes" (I will make an exception for "M4 Part 2" by Faunts).  There's no emotion in it, it's just DANCE DANCE ALL NIGHT LONG or I LOVE YOU, BABY.  It's like the "artist", and I used that word in a very loose sense, sat down at their desk, took out a piece of paper, and wrote a crappy love poem to no one.  There's no societal message, no deeper meaning, and no feeling.  It's like a First Person Shooter with no replay value.
Segwaying into my next argument, most "artists" are dishonest.  When I say this, I am speaking of bands like Slayer and Nickleback (Not that I in any way, shape, or form put them in the same category).  Slayer, for those of you who don't know, is a seminal thrash metal band, famous for songs like "Raining Blood" and "Seasons in the Abyss".  They are also famous for their very frightening and satanic themed album covers.  In spite of all this, the band members of Slayer are devout Christians.  Now, I do not hate Christianity, nor do I hate Slayer (I could listen to Seasons in the Abyss all damn day), but if you're going to talk the talk, then at least walk the walk (Upon looking up Norwegian Black Metal, I take that back).  Now for a much better argument, why does Nickleback suck?  Nickleback was and still is part of the post-grunge movement of Nirvana/Pearl Jam spin-offs.  Despite claiming to be the torch bearers of grunge, Nickleback, along with its sister band, Creed, are nothing more than losers who are riding the gold mine that was the Grunge movement.  Back in the late 80s/early 90s, Nirvana wrote songs that were inspired by Kurt Cobain's teenage angst.  The songs that he wrote came from his heart, and he put every ounce of emotion and feeling into it.  In other words, he was legit.  Nowadays, I feel more respect for Lady Gaga than Nickleback.  You are probably thinking WTF? right now, but as one of my all-time favorite lead singers, Geddy Lee, once sang, "All this machinery making modern music can still be open-hearted.  Not so coldly charted, it's really just a question of your honesty, yeah, your honesty.  One likes to believe in the freedom of music, but glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity. "  (Rush, Spirit of Radio)
Using that last quote as a transition, another problem with music industry is that most bands/artists nowadays are motivated by profit rather than message.  Just look at every pop/rap/hip-hop artist to come out in the last decade:  No talent, yet they somehow make millions.  How?  The answer is simple:  The music industry looks for puppets, people who they can use to milk money out of a target demographic.  Look at Justin Bieber:  He cranks out cheap and corny love songs and prepubescent girls eat it up.  Who WOULDN'T take advantage of that cash cow?  Rebecca Black is another example:  I am not sure whether it was all her idea to get into the music industry, but what I do know is that she definitely didn't write "Friday".  In short, my message to them:  Don't stop making music, just make your own, without autotune (I have yet to regret this statement).
In conclusion, the music industry needs a slap to the face to cure this chronic lack of emotion, dishonesty, and profit motivation.  Going against my thesis, however, I will say that there are some new bands that refresh my faith in humanity.  Amongst them, the most famous is Adele, which I would hope requires no explanation.  There are also multiple small bands, which is where most of money lies.  My message to you all:  Support your local artists.  Remember that Queen, Pink Floyd, and Iron Maiden didn't start by playing to sold out audiences.
