General Discussion / Re: Lost interest in video games?
« on: February 14, 2015, 02:11:18 PM »
You're getting older! I used to play PC games FAR FAR FAR too much. But then I went to uni, got a girlfriend, got a job and a cycle de motor. I still play, mainly BFBC2 these days, but nowhere near as much as I used to.

I hope that I never lose interest in gaming because it is a fantastic artistic medium that lets people interact, have safe fun and unwind. Tbh I don't see myself ever losing interest because gaming is growing with me. Things like VR (seriously cannot wait until this, hopefully, reaches the open market), motion tracking, phone and tablet games getting better and better, general quality of computer games increasing, digital media outlets... The sky is the limit :)

Have a look at the various Nokia Lumias. They cover a fairly broad price range and I'm very happy with my 830. Not sure what is your definition for 'a large screen' but I'm pretty sure you could find yourself a suitable model, such as the 1520.
Do they run Windows 8?

Yes, both 830 and 1520 run on Windows Phone 8.1. The former on the Denim update and the latter on Cyan.
I don't really like Windows 8 on a mobile device. Give me Playstore any day of the week.

i've got a note 3, pretty great. there's no other phone that I'd even consider atm
i'm not sure how insurance is over there in the uk, but here in the US I don't find it to be worth it at all. something like 15$ a month, plus a 150$ deductible. i've never had anything happen to one of my phones that required me to get a replacement, but even in the unlikely situation something did, i'd have spent just as much if not more on insurance then a new phone would've been.
I looked mine up and it's about £35 a year for a Note 3. So I would definitely say it's worth it in the UK.

Although looking at insurance now, I have come to understand that if the device is more than 6 months old they won't insure it. So I have to buy a brand new one just to be able to insure it. I doubt it's worth the fucking difference. Insurance companies fucking people over again. Blood sucking, parasitic bastards.

Note 3. Otherwise the S5 has a decently sized screen if the Note 3 was ever too big for you.
Note 3 was always too big for me and I have massive hands. But I didn't care too much tbh. I miss it :'(
And one huge difference I see between the S5 and Note 3 is the battery! 3200 mAh for the Note and 2800 for the S5. S5 does have a better camera and CPU though.

Looking at the specs between the two, I would still rather have the Note. There's not a massive amount of difference between them that I can see.

I got my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 pickpocketed, by a souless waste of oxygen, a few weeks ago so I am wanting to replace it. And since I still have over a year left on my contract and it would cost me £413 to cancel or get an early upgrade, I am thinking just getting a new phone is the better choice.

And yes, I am a huge fucking idiot that didn't have it insured. Fool me once, but not fucking twice my friends. Not - fucking - twice :')

Must have a big screen; I like watching Netshit and Youtube on it, as well as reading the news on the shitter so it helps to have a big screen.
Good screen resolution would be nice
Good processor, RAM and all that jazz.
And strictly, NO IPHONES >.<

Budget of up to £270 which is about $407 USD.

I was thinking of just replacing it with another Note 3, since it's the fucking bomb and all, but wanted to see what others might recommend.

Cheers mu'fuckers!

Music production, foundation degree topping up to full BA hons next year (UK). UNI IS NOT ALL THAT IT IS CRACKED UP TO BE!!!!!!! "It will be the best experience of your life" they said. "You will meet so many new friends" They also said. Nope Nope and more Nope. I suppose it depends on what course and uni you go for but don't go into it expecting it to be gods gift to your life.

And do not, whatever you do, move in with your girlfriend! I lived with mine for 4 months and then we broke up lol.

But srsly, go into it with an open mind and don't get your hopes up that it will be the greatest time of your life.

So uh, guess im goin overseas for college!
Pick the UK, Scotland or Germany. I know the Scots and Gerries have free higher education for their citizens. Dunno about over-seas students but anywhere seems to be cheaper than the US, unfortunately.

I love how a BA, which often gets you nothing, costs 3x more than a certification to shock people with electricity, administer drugs to people that can kill them via injection, and decide who to try and save and who to let die in mass casualty incidents. A national (Canadian) paramedic certificate costs ~$8,000 after all the tuition, books, and uniforms and a license to practice is usually around $400 a year.
The truth. The education system, especially the HE side, is much like the insurance system; you need to be rich or willing to have money stripped out of your arsehole and be in debt for much or all of your life to get anywhere with it.

I can't complain about my 2014 year. Though 2015 is going to be scary. I'll be going to an out of state college most likely. Savannah College of Art and Design it's looking like so far. Hooray for $33,000 a year tuition.
$33,000?! O_O I only pay £9,000 a year for mine.

welcome to america, where the textbooks alone will put you deep in debt

^^ Colleges -- one of the best national scams to date. I could probably learn everything they'd teach me on YouTube; but I'm also doing it for the prestige of an actual degree (even though it's a BA...not a BS) and networking opportunities. I did end up getting a $11,500 a year scholarship from the school though and I still have to apply to outside scholarships and have the school approve my fafsa. So far, instead of $33,000 a year, I'm looking more at $21,500 a year for just tuition alone.

I'm going to be eating cat food for the next 4 years. (Not seriously, but...yeah, I'm going to be poor.)
This is going off topic, but IDGAF. What BA are you doing? I'm on a foundation degree, hoping to top it up to a full BA in music production.
