Stasis Pods: A Guide To All

Stasis: Common Misconceptions

  • All Combine or Civil Authority units use stasis.

This is incorrect.  Stasis is designed for those who cannot operate withough "recharging" (which I will explain later.)  In general it is any OverWatch unit, or any High Command or higher unit.

  • You're just asleep in a Stasis Pod.

No, Stasis is not sleeping.  Stasis is similar in the fact that if you go without it you are liable to preform poorer and poorer and eventually crash into a coma-like state.

  • You dream while in stasis.

No.  While in stasis you may have flashbacks into the past events, but they are all 100 percent real.  A dream is fictitious, your memories are not.  It is easiest to explain it as a dream or flashback to prevent confusion to those asking.

  • Stasis is a choice.

Yes and no.  It is a choice in the sense that when you are augmented to the level a High Command unit is recommended to be, then you are required to use stasis.  The choice is in whether or not to get the augmentations (though, Union Doctrines state that it is highly recommended to do so.) Notable High Command choosing NOT to augment: APEX-DvL.211

  • City Administrators go into stasis.

Breen's Pod - While it is true that City Administrators have a pod, it is transportation only.  It might be used to sleep in, but as stasis is not sleep, it is not stasis.  In CG canon, there is a room of beds for City Administrators, as well as a barracks for the Civil Authority units.

  • If I don't get augmentations, it doesn't matter.

While you are not required to, it would be frowned upon by others not to. It is a choice, just the wrong one in many peoples eyes (at least ICly.)  If you choose to not augment, you are choosing to not utilize stasis.

  • I can use stasis without being augmented as a High Command.

Sure, the stasis room is High Command only.  And sure, you can use Stasis Pods.  You'd just die.  Stasis is for augmented units only, going in unaugmented or very lowly augmented will cause the system to detect a fault and terminate the subject inside the pod.  Sorry.

Stasis: What is it, really?

Yes, that is an Advisor pod.  A stasis pod is very similar, it is a brown pod with a mechanical opening mechanism in the front (where the Union logo is) to allow the user to enter the pod.  Inside the pod are connections and intravenous needles that will attach to the body during the stasis process.

The connections mentioned are not unlike a plug.  Similar in size to an audio jack, they recharge the augmentations to allow full performance when you exit stasis.  Each pod is unique to the user based on their augmentations, as each user would be different.  Not all would have the same arm augmentations, or the same leg augmentations.  Some have specialized augmentations such as mechanical eyes. In some augmentations, a specialized hose connection would be added in.  Such as a full arm augmentation, you would need a lubricant to make sure that it functions properly as it is a metal augmentation.

The intravenous needles inject specialized chemicals and solutions into the bloodstream.  This allows augmentations to not hamper any physical abilities by helping increase strength in muscles and to strengthen the muscle fiber itself to prevent tearing.  It is also these chemicals that would cause the brain to replay memories, and allow the body (that is not augmented) to recover much faster than normal sleep.

Stasis: Who takes care of it?

Stasis pods themselves are created by the Universal Union in a center inside each Citadel.  When an order for one comes in, it is individually made for the unit that is going to be using it. The process is quick as the technology is advanced, it takes longer to get to the city than it takes to make it.  When a unit gets approved for augmentations, the specific augmentations are approved and then placed on the unit, and the Universal Union is able to take the data sent in from the approval and make the pod on that.

Once the pod is released to the city and installed into the Stasis system, it is up to the GRID units to maintain the pods and make sure that nothing goes wrong.  If something does go wrong, higher ranked GRID units are able to fix it with the training they receive.  If they are unable to fix it for any reason, they can issue an alert and a Universal Union technician would be dispatched on the next RAZOR train to the city.

The only issues that could cause failure would be destruction of key elements inside the Nexus that control the support modules for the Stasis system, or a major power break and the backup systems failing due to improper maintenance (which is yet again GRID's job.)  In case of a major problem and the Nexus going into lockdown, the Stasis system could also be locked down depending on the problem.  Generally this would not happen, but it can occur if the chance of an evacuation of personnel is high.

Stasis: What happens if...?

  • What happens if I go into stasis without augmentations or as a non-command unit?

You will die, and most likely a PK will be issued to your character.  (This is per Kronic, see above for why.)

  • What happens if I am an augmented unit (for some reason) that is not a command unit?

You would be authorized if the augmentation requires stasis, but this shouldn't happen unless you are demoted from a command rank, which would still authorize you to use the stasis room. Former command units are authorized for stasis (if they have an augmentation that requires it only.)

IC Chat / Tyler Alvarado - Life in City 45

Day 1.

Well, today was an interesting day.  Got off the train, those Razor trains are pretty fast for being so big.  I digress though.  I got off the train, took my suitcase with my spare clothes, and walked towards the processing center.  The train station here looks pretty nice, but for some reason it seems out of place in the city.  The processing center was like any other, they searched my suitcase, searched me, and handed me a new ID card.

Walking into the city, it was dark.  And not just because it was night.  The city gives this kind of feeling that seems depressing most of the time.  The plaza is giant compared to most that I have seen, and there are two combine blocks at the street, one to the north of the train station, and one to the east.  I have no idea where either lead.  I have no idea where most of the city is.  I took a slow walk around the plaza, getting to know where basic things are.  The ration terminal looks like all the others, at least from the outside.

I looked at my ID card, and noticed that there was no assigned apartment.  I went inside the Union Civil Housing to see if there was some way to tell, and it seems that apartments are assigned on a day to day basis on a screen in the lobby.  Today I was assigned apartment D-2.  There is literally nothing in it, all the walls are broken down, and it seems that there are three apartments together in one.  I know I shouldn't get used to the space but it is kind of nice when you need to sit down, relax, and knock on the sky.  It is a big hindrance to listen to the sound when the walls are practically held together with two pieces of paper covering the numerous holes, so the space is a welcome change.

Anyway, after getting myself set up in my apartment for the day, I set out to walk around a bit more and get a little exercise to try to keep at least a little bit of muscle.  I got a nice mental map put together of the plaza and the different shops surrounding it, but still don't know anything past the plaza.  I saw a few people standing and sitting around, but didn't talk to them too much, just the passing nod of a greeting or something.

After walking around in the plaza, I went back to my apartment and meditated for a bit, processing the information that I have gained today.  Hopefully tomorrow I will learn a bit more about the other areas of the city and possibly even figure out the way that rations are set up in this somewhat strange city.

All in all, it was a decent day, just a lot of confusion and processing.  Now, it is time to sleep.

Ok, so I was bored.  As you can tell by that.  But I digress.

Hi all!  My name, depending on how well I know you, is either RoxorPlox (steam) or Tyler Alvarado (HL2RP) and I honestly don't care which you call me.

I am a newfag here at CG, but not in HL2RP or Roleplay for that matter.  I've done my time in a few different servers, both HL2RP and some more... shall we say unserious servers.  HL2RP is one of the better ones out there.  And the CG HL2RP server is nice with all the different additions such as the character creation guide when you create a new character, as well as some of the useful guides inside the directory.

Anyway, back to the actual introduction.  I am not really too average a player, I play to play, but I also do like to play around with the scripts themselves.  Yes, I am a lua coder, as well as a web coder and slightly know a few other games such as the CSS coding of EventScripts Classic and EventScripts Python.

Anyway, hope to have some fun here.  Plan on getting a signature here soon, just don't want any generic shit.  If anyone does signatures, I would love one special, PM me.
