Percivil Eostre’s Civil Authority Application

IC Character Name:  Percivil Eostre

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.

Percivil Eostre was a doctor before the war began. Not quite a doctor, though, however much he tries to convince himself that he was. He was an intern, nearing the end of his internship to become a doctor when war finally struck. After the first portal storm, there was confusion, chaos, destruction, and men and woman emotionally and physically wounded by the ravages of conflict dotted around the land. He was working. Always working. His arms ached and his brain throbbed, but he did not stop working. That is, until the invasion.

He settled in quite quickly after the invasion. He always was direct and straightforward in what to do, even in adverse situations. Soon, after the initial force leaked out from the world and Civil Protection arrived, he marvelled at their direct power and strength. What men, he thought, could be so powerful and still think so intently? What men could plan and execute with the flick of the wrist, holding an entire population under control with brutal strength and power? He saw their concealed faces and concrete masks as a symbol of the most fluid organisation he had ever seen. It was not what they did what concerned him – it was how they did it.

The power, the control, the directness, the smooth fluidity of their actions was awe inspiring to him. And what’s more, he had a service to offer to them. He did not want to simply approach them with nothing to offer. No, he was a doctor. He could help them, heal them, save them, and assimilate with them. What more could he want? His motivation was being a part of this organisation – of being apart something that seemed surreal in the previous culture. And now, his dream could take flight.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.

I imagine my character having some trouble to start in the CCA. After all, he became a doctor to help people, and he will attempt to follow this doctrine in his early days. As helping citizens is frowned upon, he may require a stern warning before he will desist, and then believe, in the CCA’s doctrine regarding the issue. However, he will fit in nicely in later levels, and I expect him to be a functioning part of the CCA.

Myself? Well, I guess all things worth trying are worth trying twice. I have great hopes for the future – one of the reasons I left was because change seemed to be unreachable. As friends I knew were eaten away, by man and time alike, I thought there was nothing left to fight for in the CCA, as it seemed to be on a perpetual course towards implosion. However, I was wrong. I sometimes regret my decision to leave, but I stick by it. Things are changing, and for the better. It seems that the CCA will be a great functioning group once again, with capable leadership to back it. That is why I wish to return – I am joining the organisation I had wished to join all those months ago.


4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.

Percivil always loved helping people. His family was somewhat average, although what an average family was he was never quite sure. He had one sister, whom he had a jocular relationship with, although nothing too deep and meaningful. His father was away often, as he was neurologist, and his work was greatly desired. He would often stumble home, dazed and tired, and slam into bed, the force waking and shaking the entire house. He would sleep through the morning, and would disappear by mid-day, often having to force himself to attend a seminar or meeting where he would sit quietly and absorb every piece of dull information that was thrown in his direction. His mother worked in finance, in a rather boring and rather average desk job. She would also stumble home, causing earthquakes out of nothing but her corpulence and the grinding of her old wooden bed. His mother and his father didn’t get much time to see him, but that didn’t matter. Percivil, instead, learned to look after himself.

Percivil always had a direction. He knew what he was going to do, where to go, making quick but well thought out decisions quickly and efficiently. He loved the praise that came with his success – he lapped it up like wood fuelling a fire of energy. He would bound and bound and put that little more in than his peers, showing everyone that he was worth much more than his sly and cool air that had the connotation of a lazy and incompetent man with no more than a persona of confidence. He was happy when he proved them wrong. He turned 18, and he knew he wanted to be a doctor. He got into direct entry medicine and, working long nights and long hours, he went through his internship with flying colours, almost developing a smug air about him at times. He was a few months shy of becoming a full doctor when the portal storm shook the world.

It started like a tingle first. The little voice that you feel in your head telling you that something is going to happen. Like the feeling when you bounce a basketball and know where its going to go, or when you walk up stairs when it is dark and imagine a ghost step, your prioception screaming as your foot falls through the floor. But it spread, slowly. Like you can feel the rain about to fall from the thickness from the air, he knew that the portal storm was big.

He never got to finish his degree. He plunged into an endless demand for medical work, as most doctors could not afford a few more months of education. Many people’s lives were at stake, and he was almost a full fledged doctor anyway. He worked hard for many years, learning from experience rather than books, and becoming more and more adept as he came along. He loved his work, and did all he could to help and achieve more than others.

When the combine finally came, he could work no more. He attempted to help citizens, but all was cut off as the Combine restricted any move he made to help. In the end, he could do nothing but admire the ruthless and cunning organisation that seemed to know what he was thinking before he thought it.

7. What’s your most memorable quality RP experience?

When I was an 03 in C18, one of the few Autonomous Waivers was called to deal with a large (and one of the final) exogen breaches. It was chaos. We moved out in teams and shot anything that moved, sweeping through every single place a  man, woman, child, or headcrab, could hide. After exhausting our ammo, and our limited 1 hour oxygen mask supply, we moved back to the Nexus, and sent out NOVA biohazard teams (Of which I was also apart) to burn all bio matter left in the city. We built a large bonfire with sterilizing materials put in and then put all of the infected matter into it. It was fantastic role-play as well as great action.

Yes, the Union is a strong and fast organisation, one that will live with or without me. My devotion only adds to its immense power.

My actions are my actions alone. Saying that it is someone elses is an abandonment of my duty to the Union.

Civil protection offers opportunities that surpass all others that have come before in my life. I see this as a great new start for me – one where I can use my skills to assist a well oiled and well built machine to a wonderful goal. I want to join because I want to help in any way I can – and this way is the best way that I as an individual can do my part for the Union.
