**About the game**

After a catastrophic disaster, The world and its economy suffered major causing riots, mayhem and destruction.
A program was launched called BFIA (Battle For It All) to put against 100 players on a remote island test
facility filled with animals, bandits, and of course the 99 other survivors you must kill in order
to survive and get the prize of 10,000 BFIA (Battle For It All Points) currency used in the game.

Metropolice Force / MetroPolice Force big makeover.

A lot to say... But it's always difficult to think of how to start, ain't it? ;)
Anyway, Kiwiee and I have been talking about the MPF and discussing a few ideas that we are willing to take into effect when the community supports it.

Division layout
Currently, we have 4 divisions: ECHO, RAZOR, GRID, and NOVA. Each division needs proper active high command to function. This however, we lack A LOT! Thus, we had the following idea:
ONE division. Yes, you heard me right. Our idea was to (at least temporary) merge everything into one big group.
Sound like a stupid idea? Not really, if you know the advantages that come with it:

Commanding ranks
Having one division solves the issue of having to many inactive high command units. Simply because we require a lot less high command at all. We were thinking of having one DvL, and two or three OfCs (Probably 2 to start with, and increasing it to 3 when the playercount raises)
Who these are going to be however, is yet unknown. We had a few certain people in mind. But if you currently have a HC unit and you show activity and are still interested, shoot us a message and we might consider you for one of the positions too.

Wait, so does this mean I would lose my rank / Is this a complete reform?
NO! Reforms are fucking stupid and don't solve anything. So if you were 03 before? You will remain 03. Same goes for all ranks with the exception of high command since we have limited room now. But hey, there are only a rare few active HC anyway. So that shouldn't be a problem.

So how are all divisions supposed to work under one big group?
Simple, you have one group instead of multiple groups. But everyone can still do what he or she likes the most. Were you NOVA before and are you more into medical stuff? Then choose the medical route through the trainings scheme! Are you more of a mechanical engineer type? Then follow that route! You like both? Then you can even choose both! The choice is completely yours to customize your character development within the MPF.

So what's with this trainings scheme you are talking about?
The way how Kiwiee and I imagined it to work out, and the way that allows everyone to completely choose their own path is as follows:
Each rank (04, 03, 02, 01 and EpU etc) have around 15 trainings. 5 trainings based around sociability, 5 trainings based around mechanical engineering, and 5 trainings based around medical stuff. The requirement to advance ranks is to complete a minimum of 5 trainings up to your choice. So if you want to choose for all 5 trainings based on medical, it's up to you. Or you want a mix of 3 medical and 2 mechanical? Sure... Or heck, if you want to completely go for it, you can complete ALL 15 trainings (or just 10) so you have experience in everything. The choice is completely yours.

Example choice difference between two units:
Unit 1: ONLY chooses medical trainings. Thus 5 trainings each rank. He will gain ranks faster than Unit 2 but his general knowledge is worse.
Unit 2: He wants to know as much as possible, so he chooses to do a bit of everything, meaning 3 medical trainings, 3 mechanical trainings and 3 sociability trainings. As a result, he will take longer than Unit 1 to gain ranks, but his general knowledge is way better which can give him the advantage of being able to do more things in the future.

Do note however that trainings in later ranks would have trainings from previous ranks with the same subject as requirement. So choose wisely!

Who's going to train units?
This is something we couldn't yet decide on. We have two options:
Option 1: TrOs (Training Officers). Like 2 or 3 of them who train both recruits, and lower ranked units along with high command who can also train obviously.

Option 2: Higher ranking units can apply to receive a "Training permit". Meaning that for example an 02 with training permit may train recruits, 04s and 03s. etc. This way everyone will technically be able to train lower ranks, thus the problem of "OMG TROs ARE NEVER ONLINE" will be solved.

So if I'm a 02 and I based all my trainings on medical, but I changed my mind and I want to be mechanical after all. Can I?
Of course! But like I said, the 02 mechanical trainings would have mechanical trainings from 03 and 04 tier as requirement. Which means that you will remain a 02 as rank, but you can do trainings from the 04 and 03 tier to get all requirements before you start with the 02 mechanical trainings.
So changing your mind is completely up to you. But it would take you a little longer to advance to the next rank.






Maybe I forgot a few things that Kiwiee and I discussed, so bleh if I did. Kiwiee will fill this further in once he has time to read it etc.

So is this going to happen for sure?
Not if you guys are all against it. This is merely a thought out idea and we are open to constructive criticism. So if you guys are for it, we can put this in effect. But if you guys are against it, then we won't. It's that simple.

Suggestions / Underdone, and/or Noobulator's Resident Evil gamemodes.

I was thinking about these two particular gamemodes sometime yesterday, and I actually have some pretty awesome nostalgia with it. And I honestly want to play them again. So here's the idea: let's host it IF someone, anyone at all still has these gamemodes anywhere.

Underdone:
- It's a MMORPG that doesn't require any certain amount of players for you to have fun and progress in the game. Meaning there is NO reason for people not to join other than simply not wanting to play. So this reason alone gives CG a chance to slightly grow it's playerbase.
- More donation options = Roflwaffle more money = No more "Lel low on server bill again pls donate".
- It is extremely easy to develop. As in, adding more quests and items. Practically anyone can do it as long as you have the proper format and tools for it. (Which I can make a guide for.) Thus, allow people to create their own items and quests, send them over to a developer (I can volunteer for that) for approval, and add it to the server.

Noobulator's Resident Evil
- It's a personal gamemode and might be long gone and never to be found again.
- IF we are able to obtain it, it's an awesome gamemode that gives people some more fun while they are bored of HL2RP or whatever.
- Once again it gives more donation options.


Yeah ok, thoughts? I have my doubts we would be able to obtain Resident Evil gamemode, but I'm sure Underdone would be amazing to have once again.

IC Character Name: Chris Fangs

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Metropolice Force and what lead your character to do so.
Ever since Chris Fangs entered the city, he always stood up to the Metropolice Force. He believes in evolution and thinks that the invasion of the combine is the next step towards human evolution and technology. He therefor thinks that not going along with them and joining them in their forces is like wanting to stop grow older. Although it seems to be a strange step into the future, he believes it's a step he has to make. And the fact the citizen life itself is pretty bad gives him enough reason and courage to get through with this and give it his best to achieve his goal into joining the Metropolice Force.

Of course you cannot just step up and join whenever you like. You have to actually do work, and gain the Union's trust before they let you into their forces. So Chris Fangs does exactly this. He obeys whatever order he gets thrown at him from any unit on duty. He shows his very best towards them and tries to help wherever he can. May it be cleaning up some junk, or possibly repairing random things within the apartment complex. He also snitches on other people who seem to be against the Union. This gains him some more trust from the Union, but he loses respect from fellow citizens though.

Because of his actions and his constant ratting people out, he lost any possible friend he might had, and people began to dislike him. Which makes sense, because no one likes to get ratted out. Specially if you are planning to do something that might be considered an anti-citizen activity. But Chris didn't care to much. He did however see this as a point of no return. He MUST join the Union now. If he doesn't, he might end up getting attacked or worse, even killed by everyone he ever ratted out. So for the sake of his own life, he decides to write an application in an attempt to finally follow his dream in joining the ranks of the MPF.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
Chris Fangs is mainly calm, easy, trustworthy to the MPF but betrayal to certain citizens, good listener, and fairly quickly to learn.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Metropolice Force to be like for you and your character.
Chris Fangs expects the Metropolice Force to be his next step into evolution. He is certain that being part of the Union means a bright future for himself. Not just because it is clear that the Union is far superior than humans in general, but just because he sees no more future in himself as human being. Ever since the Union invaded earth, the humans have been moving backwards in evolution. Become dumber, weaker, and less population week after week.

After joining the Metropolice Force, Chris expects to first adept himself as a new identity. Learning the basics and norms as a unit, and eventually become better and stronger withing the sector. It's a whole new world of opportunities for me and my character both in an IC and OOC factor.

The main reason why I want to join the MPF as a new recruit is because it brings some really awesome RP for myself and others who I get involved with. I love RPing an actual 'citizen-in-uniform' recruit. And eventually develop my character to become better as he grows in ranks.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
Before the 7 hour war

Chris was seen as the friendly neighbor type of guy. He seems to be helpful towards others, and generally leading a good life. He had a wife and two kids of 12 and 8 years old. He had a well paid job in a machine factory as mechanical engineer. Although he loved his job, he wished he had some more free time to spend with his family. In weekends he usually tried to come up with ideas what he could do with his family. Like going out into the city for various of things, or just going to some kind of amusement park for his kids to enjoy their time.
One time however during a visit in the shopping mall, something horrible happened. Chris's younger kid wandered off somewhere into a crowded area where Chris has no line of sight on him. It seems like he was wandering towards the exit to the parking lot outside. Before Chris managed to go after him and stop him, a car accident happened and the younger child died on the spot.
Ever since then, Chris and his family have been slowly diving apart. At first it was just awkward silence most of the time. But after a while, his wife decided to move out with the elder child and leave him behind. Because of this, he was no longer able to pay his rent, and had to move out to a smaller and cheaper apartment. From that day on forth, he changed so much. From a always happy friendly neighbor type of guy, he changed to a somewhat depressed lonely man. He was always busy in his apartment researching all kinds of things. No one really knew what he was doing in there, as he never really got out unless it was required for groceries or other stuff.

After the 7 hour war

Chris was put into a city that doesn't seem familiar to him at all. He always used to live in less crowded places far away from busy cities. But this more seems like a really crowded city with walls and tall buildings everywhere. It gave Chris the impression he was locked up away in some kind of box. In a sense, that is actually kind of true. He doesn't have the choice to leave. And even if he had, it wouldn't be the smartest idea considering the condition of earth after the invasion of not one, but two intelligent spicies.
Although it was difficult, Chris tried to make the best out of everything. He is really into human evolution, and the whole portal storm and 7 hour war events seems to be a sign of an ultimate change into evolution in Chris's eyes. Evolution is what Chris has been studying on in his apartment back in the past, and it seems to have come in good use after all.

5) Have you ever had a MPF character here at Catalyst Gaming?  If so, explain why it was removed.
I have had multiple MPF chars in the past. GRID DvL, CmD, a few OTA units, Scanners, and also a SYNTH hunter for a while. They were removed either due to inactivity because I quit playing HL2RP. Or because the server simply ended. Currently I have a GRID DvL again.

I can't recall on the year exactly, but I'm sure somewhat about 5-6 years for sure.

2. How long have you played on serious servers?
Depending what level of 'serious'. I have been RPing on Pulsar Effect's serious servers for about 1-2 years before they went down. Then on Orange Cosmos for another 2 years or so, although I don't really call that serious, lol. And the previous time CG had a HL2RP server I played on that for quite a while. (Not sure how long though.)

3. How long have you played on Catalyst Gaming?
I'd be hitting my 3 year milestone in a few days. ;)

I can't really choose between two of my characters on the old CG HL2RP server.
Either Christine 'Fox' Jellfish, who has a really interesting development. (Which I doubt I have to say much about. Because really, who doesn't know her?)
Or my CCA unit, which was GRID from 04 all the way to DvL, and eventually CmD. I used to torture people all the time. And the things I did (Which I usually stole the idea from some other guys.) was just crazy. If you would videotape it, it would belong of Bestgore or something.
But yeah, those were my greatest RP experience, and memory.

I have been OTA before (Many kinds. Ground units, Airwatch, and SYNTH (Hunter)). Very long time ago that is. (Like, a year ago when we were using C18 and the first half of C45 or something) But I have no evidence of that, hence I won't be able to create a 'returning' app. And even then, I'm not sure if it still counts for that long ago. Thus I'll just create a new app.

I am a good listener and I have common sense to know my shit, regardless of what it is. I am an experienced roleplayer in general, as well as past OTA unit.

5. What is your experience with roleplaying in general?
My experience reaches many years into the past. From Pulsar Effect RP, to Orange Cosmos RP, all the way to about a year experience in CG's past HL2RP server. So regarding the level of RP, I kinda grew from lite RP, to serious RP, and eventually HL2RP's standards.

6. What other characters do you play?
In the past, I have had MANY characters. Citizen resistance characters, Citizen loyalists, Citizen combine assets, Many CCA units of which one of them grew all the way to CmD. Then OTA units such as ground units, airwatch, and SYNTH characters. (like mentioned above.)

Currently: As for right now, I only have one Citizen character, a GRID DvL unit, and my adminge char. ;) I'm trying to get a City Scanner currently as well.

7. How long have you been involved in serious RP?
Depending if you mean city-based 'serious' RP (Which really is rather semi-serious or just lite-RP compared to HL2RP), or if you mean HL2RP's level of serious RP.
Either cases, I've been RPing in city-based RP servers for about 4/5 years now, of which HL2RP is in a timespan of about a year, if I recall correctly. (Don't quote me on the exact playtimes)

8. How long have you played at Catalyst Gaming?
3 years. Registered April 02, 2011. Never really left ever since. (At most I took a 'break' which only lasted about a week before I regret it and came back, lol.)

Yup, Citizen faction (obviously), MPF/CCA faction, and OTA faction.

Even when trying my hardest to remember anything, I cannot come up with anything. So I guess I haven't. At most which I can remember is Satn (SeC at that time) forcing me off my CmD char after I 'leaked' some info he told me to Veran. (Lol drama)

Of course. Do you expect any other answer here? Haha.

It is expected that an attempt will be made on the VIP's life today at an unknown time. A citizen begins to follow your escort group. You suspect that they belong to a rebel group who intend to kill the VIP. How do you approach the situation? Be creative.

ASSESSMENT #2 - OOC situation: The following scenario has taken place: a player who is in command of a criminal character in possession of hidden contraband was in the process of being handcuffed before they suddenly ran away without any valid RP. A member of the administration team locates and brings the offending player back to where they started. The player does not seem to understand the rules of the server. They are frozen in place while the administrator is sent to deal with an urgent matter. Before the administrator leaves, you are asked to explain to the player about what they did wrong. How do you proceed?
(For this, I'm just going to assume I'm a regular player that knows the rules and no administrator myself)
I would first of all try to gain the player's attention in a friendly manner, making sure he is willing to listen to me and not disconnect/rejoin to escape his frozen state.
Once I know he is willing to listen to me, I ask the player if he has any past experience with roleplay. Any kind at all. This is to figure his current knowledge and experience with RP, and to see how far I would had to go to teach him.
If I figure it's not a total loss and/or waste of time, I would try to teach the player the very basics of HL2RP. Explain to him what exactly the server is all about, and perhaps direct him to some guides and/or wiki pages explaining it all in detail. Hopefully the player is willing to actually learn proper roleplay. And if so, he will be busy enough reading up on all the info I passed him. I tell him that if he has any questions after reading, he could always PM me, or ask any general questions in OOC. Or if it is an admin related question, he can use /report.

Support & Help / Upgrading my PC. Need help. :c

Right, so my PC is just weird. Some parts are upgraded not to long ago and thus fairly new and good. But other parts are just 3 year old shit garbage that is just to slow and causes me to have a lot of issues with most games running properly.
So that's why I'm going to upgrade a few parts. Although I have NO idea what I should pick, and if everything will be compatible with each other.
So that is why I ask for help yes.

First of all, here is my current PC:
Motherboard:
ASUSTeK P7P55D Deluxe (LGA1156)
Needs to be replaced with a new motherboard that supports newer sockets for sure. I'm looking for a motherboard with at least 2 GPU slots. Read further to find out why.
Current socket support is 1156 as far as I know. While any newer/better CPU requires socket 1150.

CPU:
Intel core i7 860 @ 2.8GHz
Outdated piece of shit. This is the most important part I want upgraded. But currently this one is the best one my motherboard supports. And that is why I need a new motherboard as well. I'll keep it an i7. But I need one with WAY better GHz.

Graphics:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670
This video card is one of the parts I upgraded not to long ago. So it works for a while. Although I was thinking to maybe get another one of this one and run two of them in SLI. (Hence the motherboard with at least 2 slots for GPU) Although I heard some games have trouble running two video cards. That's why I'm wondering if it's possible to simply disable 1 of the 2 video cards while playing games that have trouble with it? Or is this not possible?

RAM:
16GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz.
Enough for me to do my shit. For just playing games you don't need more than 8GB. But I also record, edit, and render stuff. But for that 16GB is enough. So I don't need any new RAM.

Storage:
1TB internal HDD
3TB external HDD
230GB external HDD

I'm currently looking for perhaps a bigger HDD, and maybe also a SSD where I'll put windows on and a few important things for faster booting and shit. Not sure about it yet though.

Power supply:
Not sure what I have. I thought 450W.
But I'd probably want to upgrade this as well if I plan to upgrade everything I mentioned above. Maybe I could punch it up to 750W or something. I'm sure that'd enough for a long while.



So, that's about all my Specs, and everything I want to upgrade.
But, now the question is: To WHAT shall I upgrade it... I have no idea if it comes to selecting new parts.

Table Talk / Brain fuck: Chances.

One day me and my brother came in an argument about chances. We both had a different theory about how to calculate chances. And both theories may be considered valid.
This really blew my mind and I'd love to share it. See if I can blow your mind as well. ;)

In the following example, we are going to play a little lottery game. And just assume that there are 10 million tickets for every lottery:

Theory 1:
You bought 1 ticket for the lottery. So simple common sense tells you that your chances to win the lottery is 1 out of 10.000.000, right?
But say you buy 2 tickets, for 2 lotteries (Since you can only have 1 ticket each lottery.) That means you have TWO chances to win the lottery, meaning your chances are doubled right? Because there are 2 lotteries, and you only have to win one of them.

Theory 2:
Continuing from Theory 1's story: Although you have 2 tickets for 2 lotteries, you forgot that because it are 2 lotteries, the amount of tickets in total are also doubled to 20.000.000 of which you have 2. Meaning that your chances to win at all is 2 out of 20.000.000, so that still equals 1 out of 10.000.000, meaning that your chances are still the same!

Argument from Theory 1 against Theory 2:
But Theory 2, you forgot the fact that there are TWO prices in the game now. So in that sense, you did double your chances to win!

Argument from Theory 2 against Theory 1:
No that's not true. You might think that there are 2 prices. But each ticket is only valid for 1 price. You can't win the first lottery with your second ticket. Neither can you win the second lottery with your first ticket.

See it as a dice game.
You have 1 dice. What are the odds of rolling 6 if you can roll only one time? Most people would say 1 out of 6, which is obvious. But what if you can roll TWO dice and only one of them has to be 6?
One would say that it doubles your chances seeing as you have two chances of rolling 6.
But another would say your chances are still the same, seeing as the total numbers you can roll are 12 now. But you still have two chances to roll 6. Hence, 2 out of 12 -> 1 out of 6.

Past week fixed bugs


Here is a list of all bugs that have been fixed in the past week which are either already live, or will be live when the server restarts.
Note: This is not the update. Any newly added things and updates will be released in an update once it is done.

Fixed bugs log:
  • [Changed] Radios can now only be changed station by the owner (The one who bought the radio.)
  • [Changed] Increased light entity limit to 4. (Made more sense to me.)
  • [Fixed] Slight improvements to the report menu. You no longer have to click the N/A to unlock the additional info. Instead, you have to select a reason first. (So if you require admin assistance without reporting a certain someone (for example being stuck) simply write /report. select 'other' as reason and write your problem.)
  • [Fixed] Props randomly disappearing in certain areas. It was just some kind of spawn propblock protection with complete wrong areas. Fixed it now, so don't spawn props inside the spawn area, or close to the 'tunnel' area where you teleport to when going through the portal.

Past week fixed bugs


Been skipping a few weeks since I haven't really done much those weeks. But here it is anyway.

Here is a list of all bugs that have been fixed in the past week which are either already live, or will be live when the server restarts.
Note: This is not the update. Any newly added things and updates will be released in an update once it is done.

Fixed bugs log:
  • [Changed] You are now unable to steal packages from other people in blue harbor. (Just like Red harbor)
  • [Fixed] You can now lockpick vehicles. You are unable to lockpick within red harbor if the time is within 04:00 and 22:00
  • [Fixed] A few minor bugs that I found along the way. Not worth listing them all.
  • [Changed] Changed the color of the package 'cooldown' timer to orange (from red) to make it better readable.
  • [Added] Depth border for props to be automatically removed if they reach a certain depth. (Under the map) to avoid server crashes caused by props falling through the world.
                      (Warning to admins: Don't noclip under the map. It removes ALL entities except of the player itself. Aka it will strip you from all of your weapons if you do so....)

Past week fixed bugs


Here is a list of all bugs that have been fixed in the past week which are either already live, or will be live when the server restarts.
Note: This is not the update. Any newly added things and updates will be released in an update once it is done.

Fixed bugs log:
  • [Fixed] Fixed the frequent server crashing issue.
  • [Changed] Reduced Red and Blue harbor regions to proper sizes around the harbors. (Instead of going miles into the ocean before it finally says ocean)
  • [Fixed] Red and Blue harbor regions where wrongly defined. Which caused things such as lockpicks to work half into red harbor during day time.
  • [Changed] Replaced the old ugly broken mx_radio for Stevob's radio system. Hurray! (Credits to him of course.)
  • [Changed] Doubled the distance you can go from priced shipments/weapons before the price disappears.
  • [Changed] Fixed the prop coloring + Physgun issue. Your props will now keep their color if you move the prop.
    • [Changed] Starting money is now set to $10,000, up from $6,000.

Past week fixed bugs


Here is a list of all bugs that have been fixed in the past week which are either already live, or will be live when the server restarts.

Fixed bugs log:
  • [Fixed] Chemical Barrel NPC now works on the new map. (Hopefully also still on the old one, haven't tested that.)
  • [Fixed] MX-Radios should work again. Although it is still reported to glitch out when the server reaches above a certain amount of players. (We really need a whole new radio system...)
  • [Fixed] Admin tag in OOC while disguised is no more (Thx Karma)
  • [Fixed] Weapon + Context menu exploit. (Again, Thx Karma)
  • [Fixed] Mac10 no longer gives 50 ammo every time you pick it up.
  • [Fixed] Re-enabled the report menu. Simply type /report to open it. Select the right player, reason, and write a short description of the problem and it will be send to all online admins (Any server and forums)
  • [Fixed] You can now /drop an empty RPG. It simply removes it from your hotbar without dropping anything. That way you can equip a new one for new use. (I've yet to fix adding ammo when you equip a new one when still holding an empty one though. So don't do that yet!) Fixed this as well. You now get 1 extra rocket for each RPG you pick up if you already have one equipped.
