« on: February 25, 2013, 12:28:46 PM »

FROM THE OFFICE OF DIRECTOR EZEKIEL F. CALDWELL:

Greetings, citizens of City Seventeen. First and foremost, allow me to extend a warm welcome to our vibrant industrial district. My name is Doctor Ezekiel Caldwell, and my chief role will be to interface with all of you. My main goal in this fine city is to make sure all citizens are adequately represented, cared for, and educated to ensure that our proud race is successful in our existence. Please remember, all of us has a job to do. The moment this world was founded by the Union, we were granted a singular purpose: to grow and discover the truth. We are departing from the era of ignorance, from the primitive language of "oldspeak," and from destructive rebelliousness that cost us many lives. And, in order to reach the enlightenment we seek, we must remember our history, from the beginning of the Universal Union to the present day. Therefore, the City Administration will be offering historical media and other educational materials for the good of the people. We encourage all residents of City Seventeen to indulge in the provided material. Thank you.

Introductions / The Second...Third...Fourth...? Coming of BURNING BULLET!
« on: January 29, 2013, 10:20:24 PM »
Hello!

I'm going to be returning to CG after quite a while (It's been around eight months since I was last here for an extended period of time), and I can definitely see some things have changed for the better. (I love what you did with the CCA, Jonco <3, too bad City's dead right now and you're not in charge) I'm hoping to get involved with HL2RP again and become reacquainted with a lot of you!

To those of you who don't know me, I'm Burning Bullet. I first joined Roflwaffle's community back when it was called Skill Gaming (2010), and I served as an adminge for a while. From the time I joined Catalyst-Gaming, I certainly have changed quite a bit. (I used to post a lot of rant threads.)

P.S. Abbott is a hooker. Just kidding.
Herro Yankee, Spatula, Nicknero, Monkey with an Assault Rifle etc.

3
So, ye. Ask me anything. You probably don't remember me or my part in CG since 2010, but please, ask me something so I can feel wanted in life. :D

I'm just suggesting these solely for the input on alternative reform ideas. Lately, if you may have noticed, most of my suggestions aim toward making JURY the most important. Perhaps that's not the way to go; Airborne argued the opposition very fluently. So, I present an alternative- give recruit training its own division again. Perhaps I'm just taking shots in the dark and I'm the most idiotic person ever, perhaps not. I'll cut to the chase- revive UNIFORM as a recruit academy. That would have its benefits and drawbacks, and I'll list them as far as I can foresee.

Pros:
-Streamlined recruitment process- giving responsibility of managing recruits back to another seperate division.
-Characters can choose right off the bat where they want to go without having to go through JURY's layered sociostability training scheme.
-Recruit training would be everything required to perform on the streets if a Recruit wanted to stick to sociostability and join JURY.
-Divisions who express interest in a certain recruit could introduce introductory topics from their own divisions to get a recruit still in "recruit academy" a taste of what it'd be like to join that division.
-Removing the recruit clutter in JURY.
-Opening up more HC positions for new people who are interested in training.

Cons:
-Another chore of a division to manage.
-If HC is picked poorly, recruitment for the CCA will go downhill, fast.
-Difficult to start up with the current disorganization of HC.

It worked when we started up the CCA, what would stop it from working now?
Just for restatement, I am doing this just for input- you guys had some great things to say in the other topics. Post away!

Alright, this is a detachment from SatN's reform, without the change in ranks and whatnot. And NO, this won't be laced with Combine Nation idiocy. I'd call that a mistake on SatN's part to try to pass reform under the name of a comedy show. As you can see, I'd still like to see some of this. Call this a bit more JURY-oriented, but the way in which recruits see promotions might affect more than just JURY as that is where all units start in the CCA now. Try not to be as partisan in your choice and vote as if you were in the division most affected. This can't really hurt, can it? Think of it as more "advice" and less of "HURR DURR REFORM."

Main Sociostability Body- You've got to act as the main police force. Most command focus should go here to make this the largest and most desirable. This will have the most positions and will keep all units actively engaged.

Specialized Divisions- Command will focus a lot less on these. These specializations will become much smaller and a lot more selective. No longer will they be able to enforce sociostability under normal circumstances, and they will give up some of their jobs to the main sociostability body. You'll probably be in the Nexus most of the time, and 99 percent of your interactions will be with other units. This especially pertains to VICE, but I'm trying to talk about any specialization getting too big and hurting the main sociostability force.

Training Protocol (most important.):
Currently the biggest issue with rank progression is the fact that units only play for the sake of promotions, and we base promotions only off of time requirements and training completion. With my system in place, recruits receive a complete set of standard sociostability trainings before they reach the rank of 05. This would force promotions to be gained by experience and good work, and your performance as an officer would actually correlate to your rank.

6
Here's my opinion, and I'll be frank.

The only thing that seperates a recruit from a trainer (OfC+) is about 20 seconds of Google Searches. Let any recruit who is well-versed in literary arts do some google-ing and he or she will be as good as is required of an Officer.
Want to fill that gap that we're suffering from between HC and recruits? Think about that approach. Wipe High Command completely. Any incumbent HC members who are mad can either fuck off or show their qualities to get the spot back. Find people who are decent writers and RolePlayers. Assess those people for leadership qualities. Have them study up on something they want to "train" recruits in. So, yeah. High Cummand, try that approach and I swear on my life you won't see worse results. You can't really enforce all these rules and regulations on a HC Officer when you yourselves have no more idea what you're doing than a fresh face would.

Simple as that. No formalities. No red-tape. Just do it.

There. Good day.

You know, being an admin was a roller-coaster for me. I've been with CG, trying to administrate through good and bad times. I had let my passion take me for a ride on this roller-coaster of drama that is a GMOD community, and if there's one thing I've become out of all of this, out of love and hatred for CG, it's somewhere in the middle. I no longer wish to influence anything, or try to make a change. Things will improve, and things will diminish. But, this is just a matter of fact. It happens with all communities, and my only regret is letting my passion for reform get the better of me, for better or for worse. This is why I am doing what I am about to do now.

I've decided that it's best to move on when you lose all passion. I've become completely apathetic. My rage and happiness both drained consequently. I've seen CG in its prime, and CG at its worst, so far. Things go up, and things go down. And I realized that the only time I'm able to move on from a community is when I become apathetic. No more commitment. No more being held down by anything. Perhaps that's what I desire and I might move on peacefully. No bad blood between anyone in the community and myself. I've got nothing against anyone anymore. I just simply don't feel the need to continue a commitment with a GMOD community. Because, after you go through community after community, you realize that it's a mirror image to life. You live, then you die. But how you choose to see your impending death as an inevitable fate, a horrific curse, or a joyful blessing determines your outlook on how you lived, won and lost. Maybe it's time I hung up the towel and left commitment in video games altogether.

So, Administration, I think it would be fitting if I could be let go passively and on a high note. I would also like to take this time to apologize to all that my actions so far have had a negative impact on. This isn't a "goodbye from the community" thread, it is simply my final request as an administrator to allow me to shrug off the weights. I'm not a quitter, I just see it necessary to move on.

I'll stick around, and enjoy the game for what it is meant to be-a game. I'd like to see gaming through the eyes of the regular player again.

Forgive my inability to post anything more, but my leaving of the administration team is just because nothing lasts forever, and I do not want to put myself in a position detrimental to my values. I'll stick around, helping out those who need it, and feel free to accept my advice about certain things if you choose not to devalue my opinions when I lose my spiffy green tag. Be it resolved that I will not accept administrative positions anywhere else.

So I'll see you all not later, or soon, but TOMORROW WITH A GOLD TAG.

General Discussion / Video cards for under 250 dollars? (serious thread)
« on: December 17, 2011, 09:31:25 PM »
So, my parents decided to give me 250 dollars for Christmas. I am one happy kid. Now, I need a solid suggestion about upper-mid range to high-end video cards I should be looking for. I currently have the Nvidia GeForce 560TI Superclocked in mind.

Social Discussion / My eyesight is somewhat worrying me.
« on: December 10, 2011, 06:38:23 PM »
Well, over the past month I have noticed something different about my right eye. I see a slight, transparent shadow cast above all but the darkest objects I look at. Kind of like a ghost image. I am wondering if it has something to do with my lack of proper sleep. Perhaps the fatigue began piling up year upon year, until finally I ended up with this. It is also appearing occasionally in my left eye. I am planning to see my optometrist, but until then, what can I do? What do you think is causing it? And, could it be a permanent or just temporary eye problem?

PS:  The only other problem I have had so far in my life was farsightedness (which seemed to almost fully correct itself when I turned 14).

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / "See you when I see you."
« on: August 18, 2011, 10:05:41 PM »
Dear Catalyst Gaming,

Well, school is right around the corner. I do not wish to make it a repeat of last year (a C in math and a D on the final exam = bad) and I believe it is the time to put my priorities straight. I must focus on schoolwork and keeping my grades up. I am registering in many out of school seminars (notably working as an assistant to a medical examiner in a crime lab) to get a feel as to how I want my future to pan out. After becoming near-hopelessly addicted to computer games, I decided to step back from it all and examine my future. The online community of young adolescents such as myself and many, many others should realize that these few years are perhaps the most vital. This is our time to make something of ourselves for the future. I know now that I cannot waste any more time. With that, I am here to post notice of my future inactivity from most online gaming. I think that my after-school job, school, martial arts, and practicing for sports come before video games. I hope you all can understand why I will no longer have time to play video games during the weekdays. Obligations in gaming communities such as this have been both good and bad, but the time may come when I have to abandon them for more important tasks. As with Yankeesamurai, I, too, must put down the controller.

I will only have time to play casually and will not make it a duty to play video games. You will most likely see me again in the future. Do not misunderstand me- I will play games when I find the time but I will no longer be held by virtual obligations. If, or when, I do get online for a little while, do not expect me to devote all of that free time to the community. Demote me from superadmin and DvL if you really must. When I am able to stop by, I'd rather sit back and enjoy the game for what it is. If you do not see me fit to lead HELIX anymore, I recommend Saulzod for the position. He is a truly great roleplayer as well as a person. Perhaps he will have the time to devote to CG where I cannot. I will most likely remain a decent level of forum activity, but don't expect much in-game HL2RP activity.

So, don't take this as “Goodbye.” Take this as “I'll see you when I see you.”

Take care,

Burning Bullet.

Feel free to remind Civil Protection units to give you points in Local OOC (type [[ or .// before your message) for good deeds. The "handing out points policy" will be enforced, however you must take the initiative to remind units to give the points to you. If a unit fails to hand out points for actions that deserve them, report it to a High Command (OfC+) unit via forums.

The CmD deals with most (if not all) IC command duties.

This includes but is not limited to:

Giving general orders.
Monitoring UCA-related situations
Organizing the UCA on an IC perspective.
Managing units and their IC duties.

The SeC deals with most (if not all) OOC command duties.

This includes but is not limited to:

Changing ranks/ UCA organization.
Creating/deleting divisions and creating a medium of organization for them.
Managing units from an OOC perspective.
Creating directives, protocol, etc. for the UCA to follow.
Roster changes.
Total UCA control.

When the CmD is less active than necessary, the SeC may assist in IC matters.

Just wanted to clear this up. This is how I think the two positions should be. Please keep this in mind.

Having serious issues with my CPU and motherboard. Any CPU-intensive application (includes Gmod) causes me to BSOD, so I'm not going to be able to get on HL2RP until I can get the problem fixed. I can still handle the UCA OOCly, but don't expect me on SeC.602 until I can afford a new motherboard and RAM or play on a friend's computer. The motherboard is $55 USD and the RAM is about $50 USD. Feel free to help me out with the costs.

Edit: I'm trying to avoid having to buy all of this stuff. I may be able to get some spare parts from my uncle. He's at a family reunion so he can't do it now. I should expect them within the next few weeks. The chance of being able to fix the issue is almost ZERO, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Edit Two: Yankee will be the Acting SeC.... until I can get back on GMOD.

EDIT THREE :D....... I borrowed some money and got a new (extremely cheap but great reviews) mobo and RAM. I'll shoot for the end of this week to be back online. I'm typing this from my laptop.
