Suggestions / Advertise HL2RP within CG servers
« on: May 10, 2013, 03:09:14 PM »
Pretty simple. Unless I'm missing something and this already exists, I think we could use a CG screen that shows upon entering the server, which clearly and cleanly shows HRP, HL2RP, and OCRP in boxes with a accompanying pictures, with a link to the CG website as well.

With the success of servers like OCRP and HRP I can't see this hurting. Am I missing something?

The knife didn’t enter smooth. Not like in the movies before the war. The ones his Mom wouldn’t let him see. There was already a stench. An arc of dry blood lay on the corpse. Raj clumsily withdrew his misshapen blade for the sixth time.
He couldn’t remember how long ago it was. The weather was always the same. At first he thought it was just Eastern Europe. He had never lived there before the sky opened up on that surreal day. He had long lost count of the sunsets when he realized the Combine were controlling the climate.

When Raj left Jamaica with his parents he was three. Cape Town was different. He could speak like a stout Boer or a Devout Rastafarian at will. Eventually he learned to discern when each persona was called for. Suddenly Raj was awoken;

“Sir! Your food is waiting!”

Raj grabbed his order and chose a table. He jabbed it with his fork. One of its tines was missing. The stew tasted like raw matter, anyways. Well, more matter than usual. Raj exhaled in relief.

How do they live like this?

The corroded wood cracked as the Worker’s doors swung open. Raj flinched and regained himself. The intruders pointed toward the store’s line. A particularly sweaty man stared straight ahead.

“I SAID YOU!”

The citizen seemed to be shackled by the line. He tripped after awkwardly reaching his leg over the bar. He was dragged in the same position as he landed. Raj cursed to himself.

“Shit…”

He slowly rose and headed for the exit. His head was down. Dry blood filled the tile’s contours. His stomach rumbled. He suppressed a feeling of vomit.  Only fragments of the officer’s brief conversation could be heard before the battered man was taken away; something about a book. Raj didn’t stay to think about it.

A broken light flickered outside the apartment’s window as a solitary cat slinked through the corners. He gripped his knife; it shook in his hand. He muttered about life under the Union. Memories of the stranger tailed him. He was reminded why he gambled. No relying on generous food from his “Benefactors”. Even holding the pangs of hunger off for a little longer was worth it alone, or so Raj told himself. He thought about the first time running a ring was pitched to him.
“Good luck finding a weapon if you’re afraid of the slums. You could even get real tofu, if you had the money and contacts. If you didn't, well, a lot of people got caught up in promises they couldn't keep”.

A pair of old glasses stood atop the apartment’s dresser. The frames were round and sturdy. The lenses were not. It didn't matter, anyway, because Raj didn't need glasses, except when the Combine came knocking, and that was more often than he liked. Besides, they distorted his vision on their own anyway. They even looked great in addition to a nice propaganda book. All the essentials of evasion under Alien rule. Their origins were from a broke and beaten client with nothing left. He had a family, too. Raj sighed and put his knife in its case. Opening the dresser, his tied a black bandanna around his face.

Does making the world dark matter when nobody can see the sun?

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?
Perks
 * Knife helps Raj defend himself, especially considering his occupation as a gambling ring organizer

* Ability to switch between Jamaican and South African/English Colonist accents helps Raj to occupy different personas

* Bandanna can conceal Raj's lower facial features

Defects
* Knife is contraband, may get mugged for his weapon, his job is dangerous. The knife is also crooked and thus a last-resort weapon.

* Speaking differently may cause the Combine to distrust him along with other citizens

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
Currently from what I can tell there is little in the activity of gambling on the server. I plan to use the auths to play a relatively slick businessmen that can initiate RP for citizens as they delve into the depths of the ring's perks and consequences. I can even higher bodyguards for Raj as he may become a target from his activities.

I plan on bringing citizens in the gambling ring if possible and building a deeper organization underneath - where the real fun begins

The knife will only be used in DEFENSE or serious situations: Example: Money or items are stolen from Raj, or somebody won't pay up a debt . If the latter requires admin authorization, that's fine too.

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))

* Edit - Took glasses out

Suggestions / Remove custom skins for CCA under the rank of OFC
« on: April 24, 2013, 12:35:20 PM »
There is no reason for 02's and lower to have custom skins. It actually takes away from the feeling of the game, at least for me. The point of uniforms are to be uniform. Why would low ranking CCA be as distinguished in their appearances as high ranking officers? It defeats the point of the anonymous despotic enforcers assimilated into the greater Combine, losing their individuality. That is why they surrender their names for numbers.

It's annoying to see CCA standing around with each one having their own color of neon lights flashing off their masks. It's lame, too.

Edit: I'm fine with 01's having the trench coat look, but NOT individual differences between the trench coat model..

Denied HL2RP Suggestions / Centralized citizen housing
« on: March 04, 2013, 07:56:54 PM »
Alright, so I want to say off the bat that:

1. Apoc did a great job with the map
2. This is likely impossible to do at this point

Regardless of the mentioned stuff, I think there should be centralized housing for citizens near the plaza (like the UCH). Currently, the hotel has two problems - there are too many floors (disperses traffic) and there is no elevator. The amount of walking required to get to the higher floors is ridiculous. I think this is a reason for the lack of activity in the town square.

Anyways, thoughts?

Age: 28
Gender: Female
Affiliation: None

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.
I hope my backstory from the other thread will suffice but I will summarize here and add in the sewing information. This is the link to my backstory. http://www.catalyst-gaming.net/index.php?topic=17491.0

Taishi was born and raised in North Korea where all woman were expected to learn how to sew along with working for the greater good of society
Although Taishi was put into the military, she had been trained in sewing since the age of six, spending most of her childhood practicing it, especially in a third world country like N. Korea where clothes were extremely scarce along with the materials to make them. Taishi learned a great deal in her life about scavenging. Much of her time in the military was spent looking for abandoned food and clothes for her unit as an officer. She also spent much time fixing her camouflage and uniform because there were no government resource to provide them with new uniforms.

Because of these things, Taishi finds herself with the skills needed to knit and maintain her clothes along with possibly learning how to make a ghillie suit in the future. She needs the materials for all of her things, though. It will prove harder to create a more complex ghillie suit with the folds needed to sew and attach foliage to it.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?
Perks
-Ability to make and maintain clothes
-Ability to make a ghille suit in the future after knowledge and supplies are attained
-Ability to make camouflage

Defects
-May get robbed for her ghille suit, or her clothes I guess
-Also may get robbed for camouflage
-Needs to maintain any type of clothes she is wearing with supplies

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
Maybe help people fix their clothes up. Most likely just craft a ragged coat together with a hand-stitched North Korean flag on it. Make a ghillie suit in the future.

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))
No.

Which server does this apply for?
Outlands

Extra Notes (optional):
I modified it to fix some spelling errors, also I linked to my authorization thread.

Hey everyone. I would like to say first off that the developers and all else included have done a fantastic job on the Outlands, there are even weather effects. It's a beautiful server that is the antithesis of City 45, making the two contrast nicely.

Constraint often allows for refined writing which is why I've loved the City for so long, but the Outlands is about unrestrained creativity. I've seen people with robotic arms, fully functioning cars, medical doctors with pistols for self-defense, gillie suit-clad snipers who were not Combine; I've crouched around a fire during a storm, and got lost in the wilderness all in the first day.

Why am I making this? The outlands server is almost always abandoned.
This is a call for the community to consider making Outland characters. Some of you may know that Greg "Castles" is doing an event to get people into the server. This is not a closed event! But this thread isn't about Greg.

Come to the Outlands! Consider it! Veteran players, come on the server with me when there's only a few people and bullshit and light role-play to keep the thing warmed up so other players will consider joining when they see a player count that at least has a pulse.

I'm making a call to the community to finally breathe life into the Outlands, this is your chance to be the beginning of a new era in HL2RP. The server is ripe for the formation of new groups and new players with their own stories and struggles. I feel I have exhausted a lot of my creativity in City 45 (I've played too damn much, and I know some of you have too damn it!)

So please, join me sometime and let's play. My steam profile is suttreetoadvine, you'll see Atticat come up. Add me, and message me if you wanna go on the server.

We have the community
We have the competency
We have the creativity

Please, consider joining something and let's make these excellent two servers even better.

Accepted Authorizations / Taishi Wu's Authorization Application

Steam Name: Suttreetoadvine
Age: 21
How long have you been Roleplaying? (can be any game): Seven years
How long have you been playing Serious GMod RP?: Two to Three months

Character Section

Authorization(s):
Basic hand to hand fighting skills

Name: Taishi Wu
Age: 29
Gender: Female
Affiliation: None

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.
Taishi grew up in Pyongyang, a skeleton of a city in North Korea. At the time, North Korea was controlled by a tyrant named Kim Jong-il whom had ruled in the wake of his passed Father. The harsh Communist regime of North Korea strictly regulated every imaginable aspect of Taishi’s life. Gendered roles were selected, with woman being expected to work laborious hours with little to no nutrition while raising children of their own. Most North Korean infants were born underweight and died early out of the womb. Many whom survived lived with life-long disabilities.
Taishi spent her childhood with an older brother, named Dongha. Dongha was protective of Taishi. He had been sent to China many times as a teenager to receive education in what Taishi’s parents described as “a more opportune world”. While Taishi and Dongha had been born into the divided Koreas, her parents had seen the era when the country was united and whole, before entire families were forced to fight against one another; some never seeing each other again after the DMZ was established.

Dongha used to tell Taishi stories about the triumph of Communism in China. They would sneak out into the farmlands and stare at the night sky where stars hung in the blackness like the great cities in the distance, so beautiful, and out of their reach.  Dongha would tell Taishi stories of the red guards in China under the incandescent moon. Her brother taught her Chinese and would read “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” to her by candlelight. The stories of fearless warriors like Zhang Fei, Ma Chao, Xu Chu, and Dian Wei would entice her. She was captivated by the legends of loyal generals such as Zhuge Liang, Guo Jia, and especially Jiang Wei. Taishi dreamed of visiting China one day
.
Taishi’s teenage years consisted of attending school, learning basic English and rudimentary propaganda on a daily basis. She was taught that Kim-Sung destroyed an American tank with a pine cone. And she was taught that the heavens themselves opened up when her current despot leader was born. When she asked her parents about Kim Jung-il, they would only respond with distant frowns.

Taishi’s parents were not wealthy, but they had close relatives in China who pulled as many strings as they could, but no amount of favors could fix the famines of her homeland. Taishi received the chance to join the military upon graduating high school. Her parents urged her to go, fearing for her chances of surviving the famines that came and went beyond the government’s seeming control. It was her wish to join the medical corps, but North Korea wanted a show of it, and most women were selected based on their beauty. Taishi was rather ugly, a fact that had always shadowed her. She was segregated into the artillery branch as an officer of the Korean People's Army Ground Force, thank to her family in China, and although it had hurt her very much to have been rejected into the medical branch, her parents couldn’t have been prouder.

In 1993, Dongha returned to Korea from China. He and Taishi climbed to the top of a mountain overlooking the vast farmland covering the plains like a checkered quilt. They stared at the innumerable stars glowing in the darkness and watched as the fire-lit agrarian countryside disappeared, field by field. Dongha began speaking of reforms in China, something about private enterprise and self-run businesses. He spoke of luxury and wealth and education that supposedly had taken root in China. He seemed optimistic. He tugged at Taishi’s military jacket and told her to escape with him to a better world. She cried. That was the last time she would see her brother.

In 1994, after Dongha had returned to China, another famine broke out. Food was extremely scarce. Cannibalism had taken route through the corners of the countryside. Even some in the military had started to kill one another to free up room for promotions and to survive. Taishi stood at her military post, day after day, guarding the looming M-1978, or KOKSAN Howitzer overlooking the DMZ. At night she could see the distant cities pulsating with vibrant lights like another world entirely. Some of the time with her unit was spent training in hand to hand combat and small firearms, but their real jobs were scavenging for food, collecting bits of rice from abandoned farms or sometimes, even fallen comrades, and desperately trying to stay nourished. Taishi became scared of the officer’s insignia on her shoulder, fearing that she would be mistaken for somebody with real status and killed for her food.

The Combine’s assault on earth was fast, too fast for the backwards government of North Korea to even respond. The citizens were in a state of shock. Nothing changed for Taishi. Her nation had traded one tyrannical government for another. It was only when the segregations came that her parents were sent away. The organic vessels of the Combine loomed overhead like angry gods of past civilizations, arriving to cleanse the people of their fallacies. On the train to unknown destinations she sat quietly, this was her first time on such a transport. The other captives joined her in mutual silence. The moans of the rails echoed throughout the car. Some were visibly unnerved, others cried. The train came to a halt.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?
Perks
Advantage when fighting other citizens in hand to hand combat, (not CCA)
Small arms basic training and understanding of cleaning and operating (Only looking for this auth in Outlands)

Defects
Will be of little use against CCA (CCA have armor, training, and Taishi is malnourished from supplements)

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
Defend myself when attacked. Heading to outlands. This are for self-defense not marauding.

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))
No.

Which server does this apply for?
City (hand to hand) Outlands (both auths)

Extra Notes (optional):

I have edited the story slightly to include small arms training.

IC Chat / Leuthen's Books
« on: July 10, 2012, 07:30:45 AM »
So I'm writing many of my ideas down for books. Maybe the Union will have pity and publish some of them. Here goes.

Combined Cultural Evolution

   Title: The Combined Cultural Evolution

The prosperous Han dynasty persisted in China from 202 BC to 220 CE, or Common Era. Nearly four hundred years of solidarity, cohesion, unity. These words came to symbolize the strength of China’s second empire after the Warring States Period.

The combined efforts of the people of Han achieved countless feats. It was learned through advanced astronomy that the sun reflected off of the moon and that the earth, moon, and sun were spherical. It was recognized that the human body was subject to the forces of nature. The Pythagorean Theorem was developed in a culture that had never encountered Ancient Greece.

But, like all human civilizations, it could not last forever. Greed and corruption became rampant, civil servants were rewarded based on whom they were, not what they were. Merit was punished. Bloated, sluggish, inefficient aristocracy reigned. Eventually, the empire collapsed under the weight of incompetent human rule.

China was plunged into nearly one hundred years of warfare. Cannibalization occurred; towns were burned to ashes, technology decayed along with academic institutions, and the potential of mankind became ever bleaker.

It was not until Cao Cao, the great visionary, set out to unite China. Creating the kingdom of Wei through his shrewd intelligence and incredible talent as a leader, he built the most prosperous and most populated of the states. Cao Cao was not liked by his enemies. Many accused him of treacherous acts towards the child emperor. But just as the Universal Union, and Cao Cao knew, the fate of China’s people could not be left to the hands of an incompetent with no ability to discern what leadership was.

Cao Cao suffered a seething setback when he was defeated by Wu in the battle of Red Cliffs. His men were sick from the alien environment of the southern swampland, being accustomed to the plains of Northern China. He chained his ships together. This would prove to be a terrible mistake. Wu attacked with fire and in a miraculous turn of events, the wind blew in their favor. Cao Cao would never live to see a fully united China.

If it were not for his opposition by the kingdoms of Wu and Shu, China would have been united much faster, and they may not have fallen to the nomads roughly forty years after finally climbing out of the war of the three kingdoms. The new Jin dynasty, which was created by a successful coup launched by one of Cao Cao's generals after the former's death, came to dominate and finally unite China.

The illustrious Cao Cao took hard steps to unite the desolate and war-torn world. Dissidents had to be executed. Lords from all corners of the land aspired to be ruler. But Cao Cao was the one to stay. He was the one that captured the hearts and minds of the people through merit. He established farming systems to re-locate peasants onto abandoned farmland. He was a poet and a general. His military was devotedly loyal to him. He was a genius. And once again, when he perished from a brain tumor, his empire crumbled on the weight of his incompetent sons, like many empires throughout history.

To my wine I sing
of the times of peace,
when officers shall not make calls at the door.
The ruler is bright and virtuous,
His ministers loyal and trustworthy.
Abiding by propriety and courtesy,
The people have no cause for lawsuits.

From three years of farming, nine years of stores,
The granaries overflow with grains –
While the elderly have no need to labour.
Rainfall is abundant and of proper time,
The myriad of crops a great harvest yields.
From the highways are pulled back mighty steeds,
Their manure used to fertilize the fields.

From dukes down to viscounts,
all love the common people,
demoting the unworthy, raising up the good –
As fathers and brothers they nurture the people.
Those who defy the law
are punished according to the severity;
though none is so selfish as to take roadside property.
The jails are all empty,
and on Solstice day no sentences are pronounced

All live to eighty or ninety,
and pass away only of old age.
The ruler’s compassion touches all creatures equally

- Cao Cao
This was Cao Cao's vision, and this is the vision of the Union.

The Combined races of the Universal Union managed to unify earth after seven hours. This is an incredible achievement worthy of more praise than any human leader throughout history. This is the next step, the evolution of human society. Seven hours to unite and bring us into the fold of the greatest civilization known throughout the universe.

Hard steps are taken because they must be. Rations must be distributed carefully as the planned economy is carefully assembled. If we are going to be a civilization that lasts, then we must trust the Union’s plans, for they have won their merit.  No more squabbles over petty nationality. No more technological stagnation. This the dawning of a new age.

Name: Atticat
RP Name (at time of ban): Leuthen Suvorov
STEAM ID:STEAM_0:1:36509643

Reason: Disconnecting during a conversation (not confrontation) with Civil Protection units.
Length: Perma I believe
Server:HL2RP (City)
Banner:Don't know

Why should you be unbanned?: Well, I had just joined the CWU and was having a blast of a night when people started to crowd around my store. I was there for a while and had a couple chats with officers. I was talking to one when my pc lost connection. I logged back on as fast as I could (genuinely about 3-4 minutes), but I was already banned.

I selected a character that wasn't banned and went into the server to find an admin, but the players in OOC chat told me that the last admin had logged off for the night, and after failing to use /admin I left the server.

Possible evidence of misunderstanding: There were multiple people on the server when it happened. Many of them saw what happened and can vouch for me. Many members in the CCA itself would (hopefully) vouch for my dedication to serious RP and the server.

~IC PART~
Full Name: Leuthen Suvorov
Citizen identification(CID): 21296
Last Assigned Apartment Number: UCH:B2
Total Loyalist Points: 1
Sex: Male
Age: 58

How long have you been in City45:
Leuthen was segregated into City 45 by the Combine and has lived there for one month.

Why do you want to join the CWU?:
I'm currently waiting for my medical authorization. I need to join the CWU to become a fully recognized Doctor who has access to the medical equipment that he needs.

Furthermore, City 45 is in dire need of not only Civil Worker's Union personnel, but also of Doctors. Whenever a NOVA unit has to treat a downed civillian and bring them into the Nexus to fully operate on them, they see parts of the base and compromise it's security. I offer the benefit of a civilian that provides a service to other civilians and reduce NOVA's workload.

But what do I get out of it? Being in the CWU gets me a warmer coat and the benefits of belonging to an overarching organization that can provide benefits for me like assistants and deference of supply overhead to managers. The CWU invests my stake in the outcome of the city the tools I need to fully attend to citizens.

Were you ever detained before? If so explain why:

Yes. I was detained for an audio violation when I yelled in the town square and was doubly accused of threatening a man. Earlier, I had spent my day in D6 talking to two young people. One talked about wanting to buy guns, I didn't respond because I have no interest at my age in getting into scraps with the CCA and stirring trouble.

A loyalist reported us however, when the aspiring rebel failed to whisper and let his voice echo down the towering alleyways. I was in the town square when I yelled if anybody was around, and a CCA officer detained me.

The officer decided that I indeed had not threatened the loyalist, and I gave him information on the suspect that talked of purchasing weaponry. I spent some time in jail and was released.

Past experience with work/labor:
I got my undergrad degree in England and completed my medical education in the U.S.A. I spent time working in hospitals treating normal issues. I wasn't a famous doctor, but I was competent at my trade. I matured over the years after numerous exposure to new diseases.

When the portals first opened I had to deal with patients whom were eroded with bacteria mankind has never encountered before. This experience completely dwarfed my time in the hospitals, where I honed a very basic application of my skills. All too often I faced patients that were destined to decay because of poisons that contained no known cures on earth.

Things got worse when the seven hour war came and the bodies piled up. Hospitals were out of room and the death toll rose to colossal heights that dwarfed the mortality of WWI and WWII combined. A world war one for every block on every street of the world for seven hours. I attained a profound witness to the horrors of war. Working the hardest I had ever in my entire life, and under unceasing stress, I gained competence in treating basic military wounds.

When the humans were subjugated to Combine rule, I was transported to a prison camp where I did labor like farming and assembly line working until an incident occurred and suddenly I found myself the camp's main doctor. My time was mostly spent treating citizens who had collapsed from work in the looming sun and contamination of the water supplies. Somehow, I was looking out the window of a train and watching the ascension of City 45 over the hills.

Name 4 things the CWU Can possess, and 4 things we cant. Also state why.:
    The CWU can possess:
1. Radios - For communication with each other and the facilitation of synergy across the organization as a hole.
2. Special food like donuts, for selling to citizens and lowering the burden on ration distribution.
3. Flashlights - For sale to citizens to navigate the city at night.
4. Medicines - For sale to citizens and proper treatment of illness by the CWU Doctors.

The CWU cannot possess:
1. Firearms of any kind - firearms are outlawed for the inventory of civilians.
2.Explosives - explosives are also considered weapons and so are off limits to civilians.
3.Ammunition - Ammunition as well is forbidden to be carried by civilians.
4. Non-UU branded foods and paper.

Tell us about what you can do.:
I can apply my skills to aid citizens and lower the workload of the Nova and thus freeing their hands up to deal with more important matters. If I have a medical base where I can fully operate, citizens do not need to be escorted through the Nexus as well.

When a citizen is down on the street, I can use a defibrillator and apply CPR, but there is little I can do without moving them to a medical base.

I can also work alongside the CCA, being used to treating war wounds and incapacitated Nova officers if the need arises.

If a citizen asks for help and is new to the city, what would you do?:
Answer their questions and help them out. It's important to remember how clueless and awestruck you were originally when you played the game and do the same for them what was done for you by the community. You can also help by directing them to the catalyst-gaming website.

If the citizen is confused about the nature of organizations, I can let him work as an assitant for tokens in my shop as he or she gets the hang of the game in an environment where I am around to help with less stress.

Timezone: Eastern Timezone (U.S.)
SteamID: Suttreetoadvine (Atticat shows up)
Roleplay Experience: About seven years
Serious Roleplay Experience: Three months
Detail a regular day as a worker of the CWU?:
I'll spend my day working with citizens whom need medical help. A medical shop will be opened to provide for needs at a standardized location that is recognizable.

By acting as one of the few CWU workers in the city, I can generate unique RP that is rarely displayed. Dealing with all of the injured in the city can be slow or fast paced depending on the day. I'll be on call constantly and a day will never start or end as a medic in the CWU.

Character Backstory:  Leuthen Suvorov was born into a wealthy Russian family. His Father was an officer who survived the initial purging of the ranks by Stalin and went on to rise through the communist hierarchy during World War II.

When Leuthen was a child his Mother would play the violin and tell him stories of Russia's history. He learned of Alexander Suvorov for whom his family contained the same name. He would stare for hours at the Baltic sea in his summer home located on the edge of St. Petersburg, listening to the beautiful music of his mother's design. These were the best years of his life.

As operation Barbarossa commenced and the German offensive moved ever closer to Moscow, Leuthen was surrounded by the wounded, the crippled, and the dying. He would stare out his window every day in agony imagining his Father coming home in a state of disrepair, or even worse - not coming home at all. When the war had ended Leuthen's Father had returned home without right arm and nearly blind eyesight - he could never fight again.

It was at this time that the Soviets were fully on the rise as Russia transformed into another state entirely. Leuthen's Father, while proud of his country, would often talk about the condition the country was in. Propaganda at every turn, banned art, controlled media etc. His Father owned some rare books that were banned by the Soviets which he would read to Leuthen on occasion.

Leuthen's Mother and Father, concerned about the Soviets and the economic upheaval occurring during the 60's, sent Leuthen away to a school in England. This was the last time he would see his family.

In England, Leuthen studied chemistry intently. He wanted to understand how the body worked and what made it tick. Leuthen was absolutely driven to attain a medical license and return home to help his country and his Father. He would sit on the beach and read literature, watching columns of light break through the vaporous clouds. He would paint the setting of the sun, with no talent mind you. And he would send letters that were never returned.

When Leuthen had finally graduated with a degree in chemistry he went home as quickly as he could, planning on attending medical school in Russia. When he returned home there was scarcely a trace of his childhood home. It became clear to him why he was sent away. Angry at the Soviets for taking his life from him, Leuthen went to the U.S.A. as fast as he could to finally attain his medical license, fearing that England was not safe from a Soviet Invasion.

When the portals began to perforate the earth after the Black Mesa Incident, Leuthen had become a competent doctor. He was not famous, he was not brilliant, but he was good at what he did and he was needed. All kinds of strange wounds had to be treated by bizzare animals and monsters that had never been seen before on earth. At times Leuthen was at an absolute loss for how to treat the victims of people poisoned by substances that had never existed on earth before. The entire medical community was in shock. Leuthen began to smoke to calm his nerves during intense operations that tested the endurance of the doctors.

This was just the beginning however, and when the Combine finally descended upon earth, the body count was colossal. The sheer number of patients overwhelmed hospitals across the world. Leuthen had to start making split second decisions on fragile operations that would control if a victim would live or die. Billions were wiped out in the seven hour war, but Leuthen had made gained a penchant for making risky decisions to save a patients life.

Leuthen got lucky and was not killed in the wars, but he was moved into a prison camp with other survivors. He was assigned a group to work with and worked as a farmer throughout the day, toiling in the hot prisms of the sun. Leuthen argued with the Combine that he was a doctor, and that he could help, but they didn't listen, nor did they care.

One day a man collapsed in a field from heatstroke and Leuthen could not forget his doctor's oath and rushed to help the man. The Combine didn't take kindly to this, and threw Leuthen into a prison cell. The amount of days, or even years that Luethen subsisted in that prison is not known. He could scarcely see the setting of light through one window behind him lined with steel bars, but he had no way to mark each cycle of the star that harbored earth in its depression of space and time.

Leuthen's psyche had been tested to its limits when one day the Combine rushed into the system of cells. They opened the door and threw a man fully garbed in Combine Officer uniform at his feet. He was conscious, but responding in gibberish.

"Fix him" Said the Combine
Leuthen replied "I need medical tools"

The Combine dragged Leuthen from his cell and brought him into a medical room filled with devices he had never even seen before. Along the wall he could see blood, and tatters of a white lab coat with a medical insignia on it. They brought the wounded officer into the room, who was now coughing up blood.

     "He dies, you die"

So Leuthen got to work as fast as he could. Desperately trying to figure out how these bizarre and alien medical tools worked, he tested and trialed over and over again until he became nervously sure that he was out of preparation time. Leuthen operated with haste. But Leuthen knew not what he was operating for. He was out of time, and began to dig deep into the man's flesh, eventually finding latent shrapnel within the man's body. He isolated the procedure and dug the metal out as quickly and accurately as he could. The patient was taken to a room where he rested for days on end, Leuthen praying each day that he would not die and consequently seal Leuthen's own fate. Finally, the patient recovered.

This caught the eyes of the CCA, whom being brutally decisive in their actions, took a miniscule liking to Leuthen for his high risk tactics when operating. At this point Leuthen was 58, addicted to smoking, and suffered heart problems. He knew he could never resist the CCA and the Combine, but he hated them. He still retained memories of his family and what Soviet Russia had done to them, and he knew what a free world with literature and art was truly like. But he was older now, and wiser. Leuthen knew that it was up to younger generations to make a real difference. However, Leuthen had always remained true to his Doctor's Oath, which required him to never abandon a person in need. The road ahead of him would be one of harsh decisions in a world where the CCA write their own Oath of brutality, on citizens and doctors alike - especially ones that harbor a different code of morality altogether.

In the end, finding himself segregated by the Combine into City 45, Leuthen decided the best way for him to help the people of this world forgotten by god would be to preserve his position as a doctor and do what he could. The CCA had a habit for leaving citizens for dead when they couldn't figure something out, and he knew he might be one of the few who could save those lives.

Notes : I'm not sure if I was supposed to put my entire character's back-story in or not, so I just did. Also: my loyalist points are actually zero, but the application wouldn't allow me to put zero down.

Also, my authorization application for medical skills is located here - http://www.catalyst-gaming.net/index.php?topic=15278.0  which hasn't been responded to yet.

Name: Leuthen Suvorov
Age: Fifty Eight
Gender: Male
Affiliation: None

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.
Leuthen Suvorov was born into a wealthy Russian family.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?
Perks
- Chance to apply to the CWU as a Doctor
- Mobile defibrillator to use in emergency situations
- Authorization to carry medical packs
- Authorization to carry medical supplies
- Authorization to operate on citizens and CCA alike when needed
- Closer ties to the CCA and citizenry alike.

Defects
- Doctor's Oath requires Leuthen to never leave a person in need without medical attention, causing conflicts with the CCA's orders.
- Leuthen needs to make risky and quick decisions that can test his morality and another person's chances at life
- Leuthen cannot risk losing his medical authorization by aiding the resistance
- Leuthen cannot save somebody at any time - the skills he can offer outside of a medical base are few
- Leuthen must often put others before himself
- Leuthen must often room with multiple people because of a lack of money from paying out of his own pocket for patients that are in poverty.

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
I plan on using these perks to develop my character first and foremost as a doctor. My character will serve as one of the few doctors in CITY 45. I plan on applying to the CWU ASAP in order to set up a permanent medical base with ease. While Leuthen will charge low prices for his services, he can never refuse a sick patient, even if they have no money.

My character, Leuthen, will live in a state of moral conflict between obeying the CCA to retain his medical authorization and using his medical skills to aid any life in danger. Leuthen will also use high risk strategies when confronted with an injury on verge of calamity - further testing the boundaries of his morality and psychological stability.

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))
Nope.

Which server does this apply for?
City

Extra Notes (optional):
I'm not sure if portable medical packs have been banned for Doctors or not, if so just exclude them from my list of perks.

Events / [SUGGESTION] Plague
« on: May 18, 2012, 02:48:07 PM »
So the water supply has been contaminated and suddenly citizens and CCA alike are becoming ill and dropping to the ground. The plague is contagious through coughing and everyone is paranoid and on edge of strangers and even their friends getting them sick and risking death.

The CCA are too per-occupied trying to mend their now crippled force to patrol the streets effectively.

Doctors need to wear face masks when treating victims of the plague or they will catch it too. CCA need to make a choice between letting people get sick and riot or diverting some of the small manpower it has left to handing out surgical masks to protect against the contagion.

Thoughts? Criticisms? I'm not sure how this would be implemented, so I'm sorta looking to you guys for help.

IC Chat / The Story of the Civil Serf

      Journal Log 1

It seems the air gets colder every day in City 45. Every day I get older and every day my assigned clothes get more worn out. It's hard to get around the city when you're constantly coughing, but that's what I get for smoking cigarettes my whole life hehe, and look at me now, talking to myself in a journal.

Oh Leuthen, how we've seen better times. I remember the amber trees and the jade grasses of my childhood, walking through the violet fields...now all I ever see is gray.

If things are so bad here, why do I feel so content? Is old age finally getting to me? Death can come at any time, and by no means in all hell am I fearless...but I don't feel resistant to this world either. I guess I'm keeping this journal to remind myself who I am, because I might one day wake up to be a completely different person...

Some of the Civil Protection in this place, they are just kids. I spent decades in a beautiful, vibrant world before they were even born. Is it hell to be us? Is it hell to be them? The resistance, some of them are so eager to die. And the citizens, talking of smoking cigarettes in hallways, arguing with CP officers, getting into fights with each other, sometimes I wonder if they realize what danger they are getting themselves into.

Today I saw a friend named Jack. He is a fellow smoker as well. I'd tell him it's no good, but who am I to speak about that, being the one asking him for a cigarette in the UCH apartments. A man by the name of Stepman I believe, ratted on them; I saw him say it to a CP unit. I tried to warn Jack, but he didn't get out in time. In the end he was alive though, and that's all that matters; that those bastards don't amputate him.

A generous man named Alex gave me a request device, a can of water, and three books for free. Makes me feel there is some hope for this shell of a city. Most literature is banned in this police state, especially all books that are not branded by the UU, but I try to read what I can.

I am going to convince the UU that I am worthy of being authorized to become a medical doctor. I learn what I can and try to stay out of trouble, but sometimes it just finds me. Heh, what's an old man to say when someone needs a place to hide from the CCA for smoking one cigarette? Maybe I ask for it.

I don't want any part in NOVA. I see so many youths so excited to become a CP, it scares me. Just like Communist China, all the children want to be Red Guards, all the children want to turn their fellow citizens, friends, and even parents in for rewards from the government. It is so frightening.

If I get my damn medical license I'm going to help citizens and CP. It's all the same to me. Resisting at my age? That's just asking for trouble. I'll leave that to future generations, but I refuse, I refuse to be dehumanized like some of those Nova Units.

I'm tired and my cough is acting up again. Time to lay down on a carpet until I can afford some furniture. Welcome to City 45 Leuthen.

Introductions / Hey peoples <3
« on: May 14, 2012, 04:11:44 PM »
Hey everyone, I decided to join the forums here after playing on the HL2 server. I'm a little new to serious RP and came from mostly dark RP like 1942 role play and such. The level of maturity has really impressed me here, along with the need for forum approval to access things such as combine occupations and the civil workers union etc.

I also enjoy writing and so playing on this server really challenges me creatively. RP seems to be everywhere; even when I'm sitting in an apartment alone watching the dust float in the light it seems to find me. I love that everyone is involved in it and that it's hard to go a couple minutes without finding yourself pulled into something.

So I hope you guys enjoy me and I look forward to playing this game more often and developing my character!
