I accidentally washed my headphones (for my phone) and now there is little to no bass in the right earphone.....  Today is a sad day.

I pickup on when music sounds off or incorrect very well after being in band in school so this is VERY irritating for me.

Suggestions / Suggestion for LOA rules and inactivity restrictions.
« on: April 30, 2014, 07:40:23 PM »
I think it would be in the best interest of the server to make any LOA requests for any faction character  with the reason of: "The server isn't populated, tell me when it is." not valid.

If you have a character in a faction that you had to apply for it means that you know how to RP and are a representative of the community on the server.  You should be active on your characters so that it encourages even more people to be active on the server.  Right now if everyone with a faction character was active the server would be booming compared to the average population right now which actually cares about the server (Many Pototes, NRK, Khub, Statua, Nicknero, Dr. Pepper, Delta, Comrade Sterkinov, Tetioko Ippan, Greenman, Krissrules, cow, tyrex, and myself to name a few, I have seen these people on almost everyday trying to populate the sever even if it is empty).

Saying that the server is empty so I won't go on is destroying the server.  If you go online others will too.  At one point this week I myself and 2 other people were online within an hour the server population went from 3 people to almost 9 and stayed that way for a while.

2.  I propose we make inactivity rules for faction characters.  The individual factions should set their own rules but the server should have a minimum that everyone must abide by or risk loosing their character (Unless a VALID LOA is made.)

Right now the CWU is basically dead.  No one in the CWU has logged into their character at all this week.  The leader hasn't logged in 10 days.  The "veteran cook" has been gone 20+ days and half of the workers are 20+ days inactive.  The only active people in the CWU are trainees which cannot move up because no one that is in charge is online.

In the MPF conditions are just as bad.

In ECHO the "TrO" has not been online ONCE since the application cycle opened up.  In fact the only people in ECHO that have actually trained any of the new recruits were Khub and Krisrules.  There are also 4 inactive recruits in ECHO (3 are 20+ days 1 10 days inactive).

In GRID only one SCN unit is active out of 4, however there is not a big issue with actual unit inactivity =)

In RAZOR.... I don't even know where to begin.... Lets start with the HC.  None of the OfC's have logged on ONCE this week.  One of the OfC's isn't even in Catalyst Gaming anymore?  The only semi-active OfC OUT OF THREE! is KillmePlz.  The DvL .apex drops in every 4 days or so for an hour then leaves.

The only active unit in RAZOR I have seen is NRK which is an 02.

The sad part about RAZOR is that I have been told by more than a handfull of people NOT to go into RAZOR because it will be impossible to get IC training because the HC will NOT train.  I have actually witnessed it first and has well.  I have been told in character NOT to go into RAZOR because the HC is aweful.

In NOVA, like GRID there is not much of an issue there are only 3 units that are inactive only one of those being 01.  The HC in NOVA is active like in GRID which is great =)

There needs to be rules in place for people in HC positions according to inactivity.  Also the HC need to train the people under them.  It is basically an open secret that nobody likes the HC in RAZOR.

------------------------------Plan of action

I think that once anyone in a HC position in any faction goes inactive they get removed and replaced with someone that is active.  This will keep people happy and make the server more enjoyable.  People in HC positions that get removed would be demoted to the rank of 01.  After this every 5 days or so they would be demoted by one rank once they reach 04 which would take 15 days they would be demoted back to RCT and placed in ECHO.  If for 5 more days they are still inactive they will be "deserviced".

For non HC units they would be demoted a rank every 5 days until RCT then after 5 more days deserviced.

UNLESS- that person files a valid LOA.

For non MPF factions a similar inactivity rule should apply.  If the leadership for a faction (ex. CWU) goes inactive it will be replaced so that the faction can continue to grow and train it's members.  Inactive members will be demoted and removed.

-------------

I think factions should be able to set their own inactivity standards but the server must set a global standard for inactivity that everyone must abide by.

This will keep factions active, the server populated, and people who care about the server happy.

For people against this if you are going to be inactive file a LOA.

"Tell me when the server has 20 people and I will play" should not be a valid reason and only leads to the collapse of factions and eventually the server as everyone picks up this mentality.

Accepted / James Sterling's Metropolice Force Application
« on: April 23, 2014, 01:17:19 PM »
David Sterling's Metropolice Force Application

OOC Name: Officialjake

IC Character Name: James Sterling

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Metropolice Force and what lead your character to do so.
James grew up in Britain where there was for the most part law and order.  He respected the necessity of a government and laws to control the people from becoming a danger to themselves and others.  Part of this stemmed from learning about the lawless Irish Republican Army, a resistance group that fought against the British Army in Northern Ireland.  James found that he wanted to stop those who wish to make the world unsafe and lawless so he studied Criminal Justice in College.

Then the Seven Hour War started.  The world was quickly taken over by the Combine and people were being shipped off to different cities.  James was sent to City 45 where he began living a normal life under the new rule of the Universal Union.  Over time he began hearing about resistance groups sprouting up.  The resistance groups reminded him of the IRA and he feared that they would destroy the new order the Union set up.  Before the world was plagued by war and power struggles but now it is united under one nation and these rebels wanted to undo it all.

James began reporting these rebel groups and the less the presence the rebels had the safer he felt.  After a while though he began to get an itching feeling that he could do more than just report anti-citizens.  What if he could actively fight against them and be a part of the force that brought order to the world?  So he decided to join the Metropolice force.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
My character has an unwavering loyalty to the law, an objective view of the world (logically minded), is disciplined, and is trustworthy.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Metropolice Force to be like for you and your character.
For myself I am expecting the Metropolice force to be a new experience RP wise.  I have never had an MPF character before and from what I have heard from others I think that it will be fun especially with the different divisions of the MPF.  I think I would like NOVA or GRID the best because I enjoy medical RP and the mechanical passive RP in GRID is appealing as well.  I would be happy anywhere in the MPF though.

James Sterling doesn't exactly know what to expect.  He is assuming that there will be a rigorous training process that will test him both mentally and physically but doesn't know much about the MPF outside these assumptions.  He has only seen them roving around the city or guarding the Nexus.  He sees this application as a chance to give back to society and risk his life to preserve safety and peace by keeping resistance activity down.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
Before the Seven Hour War:

James Sterling was born in London, England to a middle class family.  He grew up in a conservative family and developed a respect for the government and law.  In college he began to study Criminal Justice where he learned about the various aspects of law and the psychology of a criminal. He also learned about the IRA a resistance group in Ireland that fought against the British in Northern Ireland.  He saw them as lawless as they bombed cities like Belfast and put everyone in their path in danger.  They were one of the people he wanted to stop.

In the summer after his first year of college he attended an EMT class so that he could have an exciting job while in college.  He then got his certifications and got hired before school started again.  When school started again he worked on the weekends and went to school during the week.  While stressful at times he was able to make it work out.  He was an EMT for year and a sophomore in college when his whole life changed forever.

After the Seven Hour War:

After the Combine takeover of Earth James was sent to City 45 where he had to adapt from his previous lifestyle to that of living under the Union.  While it was hard to adjust at first over time he started to see how the Union had come and brought a higher level of order to the world.  There were no more world wars and the Metropolice ensured that the cities would have a maintained sense of order and law.  Of course there were people who did not see the same way he did and tried to make resistance groups against the Union.  He saw these as a threat to the safety of his fellow Citizens and the Union.  He readily informed the MPF of resistance actives and saw it as doing his part for his safety and everyone else.  While he could not practice medicine anymore nor study at his university he could do his part in making the world a better place by helping the Union put anti-citizens down so that the law abiding ones were safe.

5) Have you ever had a MPF character here at Catalyst Gaming?  If so, explain why it was removed.
No, I have not had an MPF character before.

Suggestions / Datapad type records for Citizen Hospital
« on: April 21, 2014, 07:12:04 PM »
In the Citizen hospital we RP having medical records but I would be cool if a record system like the MPF has was added for the CH.  That way we could tell how many times a citizen has been to a hospital, for what, the treatment, or if they are deceased etc.

Thoughts, comments, opinions?

General Discussion / Yes another PC build post...
« on: November 18, 2013, 02:50:46 AM »
I am looking to build a PC so I can actually play the new games like BF4 and arma 3 instead of being limited to inde and source games on my laptop which is a POS for gaming.  Also then I can quit being a console peasant and join the PC Master Race.  So how do these two builds from /r/PCMasterRace sound?  Which one should I do or what changes do you recommend?

The "Value build" it is the recommended build:

Last Updated on October 25th, 2013 - Upgraded motherboard

The following build is a sleek black powerbox that will reduce even the dirtiest of peasants to tears. The CPU and GPU are both powerful enough to comfortably run any modern title on High. It may be smart to replace it with an 8320 or 8350 if you feel you will need the boost. Edit: Added 7950 instead. Yay!

CPU    AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor

Motherboard    ASRock 970 PRO3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard

Memory    Mushkin Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Storage    Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card    XFX Radeon HD 7950 3GB Video Card

Power Supply    Corsair CX 600W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply

Case    Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window

Then the "next gen crusher" which is cheaper than the value but less powerful.

Last Updated on October 21st, 2013

This build will be sufficient for any fresh convert who is looking to outperform the "next-gen" consoles like the PS4 and XBO. For the most bang-for-buck, I'd recommend you look at the value build. The value build will probably be about 25-30% faster in 1080p games on average. This one will be roughly the same or slightly better when compared to a PS4 or XBO when run at 1080p. EDIT: Swapped the 7790 with a 7850 for... like $5 more. It's gonna destroy any next-gen now. Absolutely destroy.

CPU    AMD Athlon II X4 760K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor

Motherboard    MSI FM2-A75MA-P33 Micro ATX FM2 Motherboard

Memory    Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1333 Memory

Storage    Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card    XFX Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card

Case    Cougar Spike MicroATX Mini Tower Case

Power Supply    EVGA 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply

Suggestions / Parking tickets
« on: November 14, 2013, 06:01:20 PM »
Add a swep for police to issue parking tickets which become inventory items for the violator.  The violator cannot drive until the ticket is paid off.  To prevent cars that have been involved in accidents from getting ticketed add a system that stops a car that has moved after the driver gets out from getting ticketed.

To add another element to the mayor's role allow the mayor to set the ticket prices instead of the cops.

I have a couple more in depth ideas

Option 1) If a person disagrees with the fine the mayor can "pardon" them and void the ticket.  OR The violator can "ask for a supervisor" and the police chief can pardon the ticket.

Option 2) The person can opt to decline the fine. (Although then people even with legit tickets could just deny it.  An auto-warrant system would not work because them non legit tickets would still punish people)

----------------------------------------------

This way when people illegally park instead of getting towed by a non existent tow truck driver (there are always none online.) There is a way to punish them.

I recommend allowing the mayor to set the ticket price instead of the cops.  Also I prefer option one above than option 2.

----------------------------------------------

PREVENTING ABUSE OF THE TICKET SYSTEM:

1) Any player abusing the system will receive a blacklist from the police job and a ban from OCRP.

2) A cool down between when tickets can be issued. (Lower cooldown times for VIP and lower for Gold)

3) See option 1 and 2.

4) The player must specify a reason in a text field when the GUI window for issuing a ticket appears.

Suggestions / Item bank "saftey deposit box"
« on: November 12, 2013, 11:19:04 PM »
Create a new option in the bank like the org bank which has limited space for free but for a fee can be expanded to hold more items.  This would allow people to store their belongings there which makes more sense than carrying them all on your person.

Also you could then allow police to confiscate any weed or drugs a person has on their person.  This would make crimeRP more risky and in order for people to safeguard their drugs they would need to store them inside the bank.

Right now police can search people's inventory but there is no reason to.  With this it would add more functionality.  When a person gets arrested they are normally searched in real life and any contraband is confiscated.  With this system we can add a balanced way to make crimeRP more risky and help police enforce the laws.

The best part is that no "serious RP" is forced on the players because whether or not the police search the person being arrested is up to them.  If they don't want to do it then they don't have to.

Overall this would

1) Add a safe place to store items (more space can be bought like the org bank)
2) Make crime RP more risky
3) Is balanced and does not make cops overpowered as the crimeRPers can store contraband in the bank.
4) Allows more RP for people that want it without forcing it on the players.  In other words the functionality is there but the RP is up to the players.

Suggestions / EMS improvments (Not a serious RP suggestion)
« on: November 12, 2013, 04:44:53 PM »
1) The ambulance is to damn slow.  It goes a top speed of around 40 mph.  This is way to slow the ambulance needs to go at least 70mph.  Otherwise by the time you get there the pt is DOA.

2) Add a seat or two to the back of the ambulance for a pt.  There are only two seats right now which only accommodates the medics. (Better to ride two medics in one bus.)

Social Discussion / Becoming an EMT-B
« on: October 20, 2013, 06:29:02 AM »
After talking to one of my friends at my college and finding out he was an emt I realized that I never knew it was possible you could be an emt while in college.  Now I have my heart set on quitting my office job and going to take an EMT-B class either my my current uni or local community college.  What sucks though is that you have to be 18 in my state to be a certified emt and I don't turn 18 until next month.  I know its not that long but it seems like it.  So are there any emt/paramedics (I DO know the difference between the two.) that could give me some tips or useful information about the emt-b courses or getting a job once I have my cert?

Support & Help / I have a ban mark on HRP?
« on: October 15, 2013, 02:40:58 PM »
I have a ban mark on HRP?  I was only banned once for a flaming incident that was well over a month ago and have not been banned since?  I have had 0 ban marks for a while now but suddenly its back?

15
So i just got banned because the admin over at the Gmod codehire site is deleting and banning everyone that says that the HRP job is a copyright violation instead of doing the responsible thing and taking it down.

I am assuming that he banned me and alaskan and maybe one other person.
