Social Discussion / Any College Bound/Currently in College Members?
« on: January 20, 2015, 11:24:34 PM »
This is a pretty hot topic for any High School Junior or Senior or even those who have graduated. I'm pretty curious -- are there any CG members that are currently college bound or already in college? If so, where do you go and what are you majoring in? How have you enjoyed your experience or what are you most excited for in the experience to come? How are you doing with scholarships and tuition? Are you living on or off campus?

I myself have already been accepted to Savannah College of Art and Design for Interactive Media and Game Development and just today I got my acceptance to Ringling College of Art and Design for Game Art & Design. The practicality of my intended major is, of course, debatable as it is a BA unless I get accepted to Champlain College or University of Southern California (in that case it'd be a BS)

I can't complain about my 2014 year. Though 2015 is going to be scary. I'll be going to an out of state college most likely. Savannah College of Art and Design it's looking like so far. Hooray for $33,000 a year tuition.
$33,000?! O_O I only pay £9,000 a year for mine.

welcome to america, where the textbooks alone will put you deep in debt

^^ Colleges -- one of the best national scams to date. I could probably learn everything they'd teach me on YouTube; but I'm also doing it for the prestige of an actual degree (even though it's a BA...not a BS) and networking opportunities. I did end up getting a $11,500 a year scholarship from the school though and I still have to apply to outside scholarships and have the school approve my fafsa. So far, instead of $33,000 a year, I'm looking more at $21,500 a year for just tuition alone.

I'm going to be eating cat food for the next 4 years. (Not seriously, but...yeah, I'm going to be poor.)
This is going off topic, but IDGAF. What BA are you doing? I'm on a foundation degree, hoping to top it up to a full BA in music production.

I'm going for a BA in Interactive Design and Game Development.

Also, I read something about Germany offering free tuition to international students.

Though a slightly more unrelated note, I've been looking into stock investment to maybe help out with my costs. I want to try and see if it'll get me anywhere.

That would be incredibly stupid considering how random the stock market is. You could get blue chip stocks but with those you won't get very much money for a loong time. Unless you got a bunch of extra money to spend then hey why not but if you already are stuggling with paying for college then I think that would be a really bad idea.

Well, my dad said he was going to loan me $500 for a Scottrade account to try my hand at Day Trading. I just have to make the money back and pay it to him eventually. Granted, I won't make much with $500 (if I make anything at all) but it's mostly to get my feet wet. Penny stocks. The ones that don't cost over like $5. They're very volatile, I understand, but $500 isn't that much of a loss.

General Discussion / Re: What did you get for Christmas?
« on: December 25, 2014, 08:55:37 PM »
A wallet, cologne, more cologne, a full tank of gas, new break pads, a sketchbook, a mini LED Light, a well deserved fap after holding back for a week and the ability to get drunk with my mom on Christmas eve. That's pretty much it.

I used to. I wouldn't really be able to tell you what I had because I don't know. It was a spare I had got as a gift. Though I'm more a fan of hookah to be honest.

General Discussion / Re: Serious RP gamemode lore idea
« on: December 06, 2014, 11:22:07 PM »
Good systems don't change.

Yeah, feudalism worked out so well, what with the decentralized government that allowed nobles to basically screw over their superiors if they didn't feel like giving them everything they requested.  Let's also not forget all the infighting and murder that would only serve to destabilize any feudal monarchy.

Also, we already voted on a serious RP server idea, so I don't see the point of this thread.

Spoiler for Hiden:

No mercy from Hazard.

As stated by Hazard, there's already an RP gamemode in the works. Therefore, while I think it could have been put a bit more delicately, your suggestion will likely not be taken into account.

This community was built around a lite rp game mode (ocrp) and that's purely why the srp servers aren't taking off - Too many rules and regulations for the average lite rp player to play by so they simply avoid it to avoid getting banned.
i remember ocrp coming out while hl2rp was out first and insanely popular even for australians or something like that

Anyway, pretty sure this matter is resolved anyway. Even if there are alts voting, suspicious voting numbers would probably result in some investigation.

I think it would be good but there has got be more to get people to RP. There could be events such as a resonance cascade or something. Sadly, I don't think it would get the votes.

Unless you want to rape canon, a resonance cascade would end up destroying the facility.  On top of that, you'd basically have a JW scenario where citizens/scientists cower in locked rooms while the CPs/security guards shoot at NPCs.

This.

I think the point of this vote is probably to doing something other than the HL2 universe. As much as I hate to admit it, it hasn't done us much good after the first time around.
