General Discussion / Re: Rust Server
« on: July 11, 2015, 02:42:35 PM »
Not sure, but it especially helps with those who tab out often.

In some games, though, it makes a big difference. For the Fallout games, it seems to prevent crashes somehow. There is even a top mod for it that sets it to fake fullscreen to avoid the issues or actual fullscreen :L

Rust is strange. It gets my GPU fans going more than games such as Watch Dogs or GTA V :L

Have you tried the DirectX 9 mode? Perhaps that would help?
Or maybe even try running it in Windowed mode. That helps with a few issues.

General Discussion / Rust Server
« on: July 10, 2015, 07:51:16 PM »
Hello all

I've been playing Rust lately and remember the times playing previously when CG had their own Rust server.
My box has been sat around for months not doing anything, so I thought I'd stick a Rust server on there.

You can connect by typing "client.connect 91.121.153.45:28015" into the Rust Console. (Start the game, press F1 to bring up the console).

The server is currently completely vanilla, however, if people start playing and call for modifications, they can be added.
We are on a freshly baked procedural map, so coming across people may be rare at first, due to the large size.

You can see the map here
It is 25km squared. I think this may be a tad too big, personally, and should probably be switched for a smaller one, at least until the player base increases. Let me know what you think.
Switched to a smaller map (Still relatively large)

Support & Help / Re: GCSE's
« on: March 05, 2014, 06:51:52 PM »
I'm doing A2 right now, but when I was doing my GCSEs, I pretty much learnt to complete exams. Especially in Science. The questions came up over and over again. We sat doing every past exam paper available and by the end we got As and A*s in core, additional and Triple. For the year below me, however, the exams changed quite a lot. I'm not sure what the new ones are like, but the technique should still work. Other than the exam papers, I never revised once.

For English and History, it's much harder to do that, I find. Past papers will still help, though.
History is probably the hardest to prepare for, as the paper could be on any of the three topics you have done so far (Y10 exam. I think I had Suffragettes, Liberal Reforms and World War 1 or something) Year 11 is a little easier. If I remember correctly, there was just one larger topic which is either Nazi Germany or America, depending on what you did your Essay on.. I would recommend you to go over everything in History multiple times. History was the only lesson I ever had failed a test in. I resat it, later, though and did okay.
In English, the Spoken Language is/was by far the worst assignment. If you found that one okay, Mice and Men should be a breeze. I still cringe when I think about 'P.E.E'. I believe that has been re-branded now, though. lel. Just remember to get your CAs done as best as you can. They bumped my B grade in my exam to an A overall. I wrote the CAs before they had to be done and remembered them word for word when it came to the actual one.

With Maths, I found that the methods on the curriculum were not always the easiest. You may want to look into other ways of solving maths problems... Which ever way works best for you.  Just do the more complicated things over and over again. Get them into your head in steps and you'll not go wrong.

There we go, then. It was just a coincidence. It's strange how some people's folders are not where they should be... Do we know why?

6
I'm having problems with addons, my /garrysmod/garrysmod has been renamed to /garrysmod/garrysmod_old and when I join the server it says I have to download the maps and content even though I have it.

Look in steamapps/common instead. It should be there now.

Not for everyone. Quite a few people still have it in their username folder and no Garry's Mod folder in their common at all. My self included, yet Garry's Mod works fine. I didn't have to re-download anything or transfer anything across, since there was nothing to transfer to. The only issue I had was Counter Strike Source stuff not working.

It may just be a coincidence, but I've asked quite a few people about this already and the people who seem to NOT have it in the Common folder are those from the UK. Everyone who said they have it in the common folder now are not in the UK. May just be a coincidence, though. Sounds daft, really.

Organizations / The Hegemony
« on: April 13, 2013, 07:02:04 PM »
Yes, the image was squished together in paint

The Hegemony is a government political party which advertises, truthfully or not, to 'Build Better Lives'. The organisation does this behind the scenes, secretly, away from non-government people. There are to be seven people running the party its self, with other members being party supporters and people looking to fill the other government jobs.
It was founded originally in HarbourRP by Steve McDowall (Derposki) & Alec Anderson (Vakarian). It was large naval fleet with, at one point, over 40 members, all ranked between Admiral and Cadet. It's motives were not exactly clear, as they seemed to change. Every member, however, became wealthy. This was a goal that never changed.
Recently, The Hegemony changed its ways, becoming more political. Many would place The Hegemony on the left-wing, although they see them selves as a more middle-wing.

Who?
The Face of The Hegemony: Kaidan Chakwas - Vakarian
H.S.O: Steve McDowall - Derposki
Intelligence Officer:
Head Judge: -
Citizen Welfare Officer: Abigail Harris - Stabigail
Head of City Services: Jake Blue - FrostByte
Chief Advisor Stan Dawson - [RCAT]Buckets

What do they do?
These people, when voted into power, will be the government. They will meet in a room similar to the one built in HRP in the pictures below. There, they will discuss all that they need to make a decision.
Spoiler for Hiden:

The Hegemony does not openly discuss it's motives, but will promise, and often deliver, what the public want, if required. Party members undergo a secret oath which enforces full loyalty to The Hegemony. If the oath is broken, the member may loose everything.

Applications
Currently, two party member positions are open. These can be applied for by talking to FrostByte, Stabigail, Derposki or Vakarian. The application will be mostly done in-game, although it will have to be initiated OOCly.
Applications to become a party loyalist/supporter will be open in-game once the server is running.

To those wanting to become a council member: It's a mostly permanent position which you can't be part of only when you feel like it. There will be only one of each position. You must be able to RP in serious situations, such as when in council meetings.

Irina Spalko's Civil Authority Application

OOC Name: Vakarian

IC Character Name: Irina Spalko

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.
My character is fascinated with the world and universe. She wishes to learn everything she can about it. Seeing all the technology of the combine and how they adapt their selves to different environments, she believes that the Universal Union can help her understand many, many things about the Universe and life.
This is mostly what inspired her to join the Union, however, there are other reasons.

She wants to be a part of something greater. Something strong, such as the Union. She wants to BE something greater. She sees the Union as something that will help her fill this want. She believes that the Union will help Humanity to reach the pinnacle of their evolution.

While in Ukraine, a small group calling themselves a resistance broke into her apartment, claiming to need it for their operations. They told her to leave the apartment and never come back. After they trashed what little she had, she began to see 'freedom fighters' as thugs. She began to think that the Civil Protection team there was lacking and decided to put her skills, such as fencing, to good use. (Will explain fencing in back story).

The technology and huge structures, such as the Citadels awe struck her. When she arrived at City45, the front of the Nexus showed her power in the Union. It made her proud to live in a city like this one, making her want to protect it.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
My character is very strong willed. She will try and reach her goal, almost stopping for nothing, presuming her body will allow it.

She isn't the most trustworthy person, although she does very well to cover this up. She would likely 'forget' about certain rules and regulations to get her job done. She would try to cover this up, making her a sneaky individual.

Two-faced - She will tell other characters what they want to hear, hoping to gain their support and trust. You could say she is manipulative.

Forgetful - She seems to be forgetful a lot. She is sure her memory used to be better, but she just puts it down to ageing. Despite this, she is still a quick thinker.

Overall, the character isn't the nicest person in the world. She will be sympathetic in situations that remind her of her past.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
I expect my character to be a suck up. I expect her to be slithering around from superior to superior. She will stay away from high-command, at first. Not knowing them, she will be intimidated by their augmentations. I expect the whole thing to intimidate her at first.

As she works up the ranks, she will show her determination to succeed more. I expect her to show the colder side of her personality as she reaches higher.

She expects it to give her the sense of exploration she used to have in her Expeditions; She expects a little thrill.

I expect it to be similar to before (When I had a unit in GRID), just a slightly different setting. I expect it to take up a lot of time from my personal life, but I expect it to be entertaining, as before.  I expect to need to relearn some of the RPing skills needed, as well as how to roleplay a unit correctly. I'm sure it'll be easily done, though.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
Irina Spalko was born and raised in a small secluded village in Ukraine by her mother, an ex-KGB agent. The village was mostly surrounded with forests and mountains were not that far away. Irina spent most of her young life in the forests, pretending to be an explorer. She loved wildlife and nature. She never thought it was cute, she was just curious about life and how it ‘worked’. She always believed there was more to it than we thought. She always wondered if there was anything else, other than what we know on earth.

Her curiosity often scared her mother somewhat; she would bring animals into the house and dissect them at a young age. Poking around the insides of a rat seemed to entertain her.

Despite her mother thinking she was strange, they still got along well and cared for each other. She would tell her daughter stories of her life during the Cold War and how things were. She taught Irina many skills that she had learnt from training, including something which Irina really took to – Fencing.

Irina became really good at it. She would practice any time she could as a young child and teenager. She competed in small competitions, winning the majority of them.

She also did well in School. At University, she aimed to eventually earn a Doctorate. However, she believed she could learn more on herself, out in the world and dropped out. She saw it as boring and pointless.

To learn, she decided to do what she always loved to do as a child: Explore. Her and her partner she met in her brief time at University at 20 travelled around the world, tracking through the jungles of South America. She made a few small discoveries, such as a small Maya settlement. It was something which really excited her. She always thought of ancient civilisations such as Preclassic Maya. Irina likes to know everything. If she doesn’t know, she will find out.  Finding this little gem gave her a thrill. From what she found, she could see into the lives of those who lived there, something which always inspired her to carry on exploring.

A few weeks later, Irina had been in the Amazon rainforest with her partner, studying some creature’s behaviour.  The ground began to shake, causing her to lose her feet and fall over. Blue energy could be seen above the trees, rising up from the earth, flying past her head. It seemed to rip entire tress from their routes, although all close to Irina were fine. Her partner lifted her up from the floor, they both quickly tried to work out what that was, until they realized, that the creature they were studying, had gone.

Its food was still there. There was no way it could have run away without the two noticing. They were both puzzled. They approached the bed it was sat in, to see a strange creature. It was about the size of a cat, with no hair.  It hissed at the two people, before jumping towards them, to show a large mouth under it, completely full of teeth. Irina quickly managed to pull a dagger from her side. She extended her arm, the hand and dagger going right through the middle of the creature’s mouth, eventually poking through the top of the creature. A squeal made by it could be heard echoing through the jungle.

Both Irina and her partner quickly decided they should end their trip, to return home. On their journey out of the jungle, they encountered more of the creatures they killed earlier that day, although, some of them seemed to be a different kind. Some were faster or more vicious.  They both managed to keep them at bay, though. They were equipped to keep any animal away, if needed. These were not any more trouble.

On their journey to the airport, they noticed entire lumps of houses and earth gone. Other houses had collapsed. They knew something was wrong. Despite what had happened, they still managed to get a plane home.

On arrival, they could tell that Ukraine had also had a similar or the same problem.  Nobody could give them the answer, but many also reported seeing “Headcrabs”. They explained to Irina that these creatures seem to couple with a human’s head, and, if not gotten off, will kill the human. Before they could finish telling Irina, airport security sent them all out. They were closing the airport, although, they couldn’t seem to tell them why,

A few days later, after other portal storms (Some people were calling them portal storms, although they didn’t know why), Irina was watching television. The news told her that “many other parts of Europe and America are being invaded. Mass slaughter is occurring. Authorities have no idea why”. Irina had no idea what they meant by ‘invading’… Well, not until a few moments later. The news channel went offline, causing Irina to get concerned. She heard noises outside; she heard muffled screaming, coupled with sounds from huge machines.

The screams were followed by huge crashes. Looking out of her window, she saw whole houses being demolished. It was like something out of War of the Worlds, she thought.

She was in a trance looking through the window. She didn’t seem to want to move or do anything… Until her mother startled her, dragging her to the basement. The instant they went down, they heard a part of their house crumble under an explosion. They heard gunshots. Slowly, but surely, the screams got quieter. There were less people in the village. Irina and her mother sat in silence, in the darkness of her basement. It was lit by only one window, which was covered in a translucent white paint. It created a gloomy yellow light.

Boosch! Boosch! Something was hitting the basement door. It was now several hours after the screaming stopped. Bam! The door flung open. Two yellow orbs could be seen at the top of the stairs. They seemed to be floating down towards them, although, loud footsteps could be heard. It was once the orbs reached the little light, they could see it was a combine soldier, whose goggles glow. He pointed to the door of the basement, signalling Irina and her mother to go. They did so, cautiously.
Once out of the house, Irina and her mother were separated.  Both of them were thrown in separate trucks. Where they were going, they had no idea.

Irina was taken to City37, a city in Ukraine. She never heard from her mother again. Or her partner. She presumed him dead in the war.
As time went by, she seemed to forget what happened during the war. She seemed to admire the combine more and more as every day went by. She was impressed. She saw them as strong… Until she was forced out of her apartment in the city. She decided she would want to make the Union stronger, and join them, to stop such things from happening.

Before she could do so, she was transferred to City45, where she has been for the last week. She instantly settled in, gaining loyalist points. The city Nexus inspired her to join the cities’ force.

5) Have you ever had a CCA character here at Catalyst Gaming?  If so, explain why it was removed.
Yes, I had a GRID unit which reached Officer. It didn't get banned or anything. After playing the character for over a year, I couldn't keep up any more and didn't have time. I then stopped playing completely once every unit got reset. I thought it would be wrong to use that unit after so long of inactivity, and decided I will get around to creating another one. After a while, the unit got deleted anyway.

OOC Details

1. How long have you played on role-playing servers in general?
Four years.

2. How long have you played on serious servers?
Not exactly sure. I believe around two years, although Catalyst may have been my first one. (Would make it 1.5 years)

3. How long have you played on Catalyst Gaming?
Roughly one and a half years. Slightly under. Started playing in April, last year.

4. What Time zone are you in?
GMT +0

5. In what country do you live?
United Kingdom, England.

6. How old are you?
16

7. Whats your most memorable quality RP experience?
I have a few. But my favourite was probably on a character called N.E.D.I. (Nexus Enhanced Defence Intelligence. Somewhat stolen from Mass Effect) It was a AI which could appear around the Nexus as a blue hologram. Scripting allowed it to hear everywhere with in the Nexus etc.
It controlled equipment. When Units needed something, N.E.D.I would get it.

As N.E.D.I, I measured the SeC's "Dimensions" while in stasis and had an extra extra large belt made for her. She was not happy when N.E.D.I broadcasted that the belt had arrived to the entire City18 force...

8. Do you consider yourself a good listener?
Yes, I do. Not listening gets you nowhere.

General Discussion / Re: Fallout 3 or New Vegas?
« on: August 31, 2012, 03:33:01 PM »
But however, Fallout 3 was my first Fallout, and I always loved the over the top action that came from it, espessially at the end of the main quest line. The DLC's were always really fun to, as random as they seemed to be sometimes.

I've noticed that a lot of people prefer the game they played first. Not entirely sure why, but I guess it's because of the newness. After playing one, the other doesn't seem as fresh or new. I think this was also part of the reason I preferred the third.

We will fight of Antilions on a daily basis until we eventually come to an agreement and learn to live with eachother.
Yes, that is a perfect plan! Combine got overrun in Episode 1 when the power went.

Okay, no. I'd just do what every other Citizen does.

« on: August 30, 2012, 04:54:58 AM »
I preferred Fallout 3 for a few different reasons, such as the ones you already mentioned.

NewVegas seemed to have a depressing tone to it. It was probably the music that played that did this for me. It didn't seem like the quests were anything special, either. Somehow they seemed empty.

I felt that Fallout 3 was a lot more fun over all. It had a lot of humour in it which I liked. The DLC was also better, the best being Point Lookout. Old World Blues was good in NV, but the world seemed emptier.

General Discussion / Re: Favorite console/pc game of all time?
« on: October 18, 2011, 04:34:04 PM »
What is your favorite video game of all time? The Mass Effect Series.

Why is it your favorite video game of all time? I just seem to love it in every way. I love futuristic fantasy Science Fiction... (Hate medieval fantasy though) I love the music - Suicide Mission at the end of ME2 is a pretty good example. I love being able to make choices and have them affect the next game. I think the characters are very well developed and have a very good back story. I mainly play games for the story and not because of the gameplay; Mass Effect has a great story and everything has been put together nicely as the codex fills in the gaps.

Who is your favorite character from the video game? This is a tough one. I like them all. I'd probably have to choose between Doctor Chakwas, Tali'Zorah nar Rayya, Garrus Vakarian, E.D.I or Jeff "Joker" Moreau.

Reason for liking these characters in the spoiler tag.
Spoiler for Hiden:
Why do I pick these?

Dr. Chakwas - Honestly? I have no idea. I just really seem to like this character.

Tali'Zorah nar Rayya - I like the Quarians. I like the character's personality.

Garrus Vakarian - Great Companion, agrees with you and stays with you every step of the way.

E.D.I - A VI that hasn't tried to kill me yet. She is also quite funny and a good part of the "crew" as she says she is.

Jeff "Joker" Moreau - Although this character's personality can be annoying to the rest of the crew, my Shepherd finds his ironic and sarcastic nature funny.

What would you rate it out of ten? Nine out of Ten. Easily.
