Suggestions / Re: Remove v Paycheck
« on: March 11, 2014, 08:31:15 PM »
Take into consideration this will sorta lower the limit of how many people donate for gold aswell. Since the income is a big thing.

maybe for you it is but id rather have a working economy
And rofl would like to have incoming donations to pay for the box.  The check should be removed but not until someone comes up with a perk that would replace it.  HL2RP could be a good money hole if we can come together and make some nice perks.

Pretty much this.

Also, the idea sounds good to remove token income and have a real economy in game, but we don't do rations regularly as it is and we never have, regardless of how much we've talked about ration distribution being a problem. People donate and get the flags to spawn items, but if they have to rely solely on rations for tokens, they'll rarely be able to actually get any benefit from it, which leads to pissed of donors, which leads to less server population and likely less overall donors as well when people realize they won't get any benefits over regular players in the game, in terms of income.

Vincent Stalton's Metropolice Force Application

OOC Name: Airborne1st

IC Character Name: Vincent Stalton

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Metropolice Force and what lead your character to do so.
Vincent Stalton has a desire for self preservation and is tired of scrounging for food and struggling to survive as a mere citizen in City 18. He is young and as spry as one can be, given the circumstance and feels he is wasting away his youth. He desires recognition, something he never had in his past. Being relatively shy, he didn't stand out very much. Now, he intends to change that and become someone new with a new mission in life.

Vincent knows joining the MPF will bring food, shelter, knowledge, and maybe even some new friends into his life. He is becoming desperate for these basic life necessities as the days pass in City 18. Vincent can't imagine his future becoming any better by standing by the wayside and going in the same direction he has been. For his own sake, and for the chance of living at least another year, he wants to give joining the MPF a shot.

Other than means of survival, Vincent believes there is a possibility for a lucrative, bright future with this occupying force. A future much better than living as a simple citizen of the city. He has clearly seen the brutality of those wearing the uniforms and masks, but he'd much rather be on the other end of the stun stick. Vincent desires authority, prestige, and a purpose. He feels this new militaristic police force that has occupied this city is just the organization to get those things.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
Serious, Selfish, Shy, Conscientious

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
I expect the personal experience for me to be something interesting. It won't necessarily be a "new" experience since I had an old unit here before the server went down but this will be a chance to develop a new type of character and start over with different people to role play with.

The experience for my character will be full of changes I'm sure. Vincent is relatively shy but is bent on his own personal survival. As he progresses through training and learns the ideals of the MPF, he will change in some ways, but in other ways I expect his attributes to become even more enhanced, so to speak. For example, he will likely become less shy over time and learn to be more aggressive and voice his opinion, but his desire for self preservation may drive him to do his duty even better.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
Vincent Stalton was born in 1990 in South Carolina, in the United States. He had an average childhood and had a strong interest in aviation. His dream job was to be a pilot. He didn't come from a very wealthy family, so college wasn't much of an option for him. This also meant his passion for aviation would never become a reality.

As he grew up, he developed a more serious attitude towards things and was often seen as being mature for his age. He was somewhat shy, and didn't approach people very often just to ask them to be friends. Instead, he was someone who waited for others to approach him. He developed more of a secretive lifestyle, often keeping things to himself that most people would love to go around telling others about. Because of this, the few friends he did have found him to be very trustworthy when it came to telling Vincent things they didn't want others to know about.

Vincent's teenage years were fairly average as well. He went to a public school where he took a few extra history classes, something that interested him. He began to develop a strong sense of self preservation for himself and his family. The more he studied history, the more paranoid he became about the government turning on its people or becoming too powerful, like that of ancient Rome. He never really expected the day to come where he would have to fight for his survival, but he wanted to be ready if it ever did. This wasn't exactly something he spoke of publicly, as he didn't want to be judged or thought of as a freak.

As he got into his mid twenties, a drastic change took place in the world. The Seven Hour War began and ended and now there was a strange militaristic force occupying the Earth. Vincent found himself separated from his family in the chaotic events that took place during the invasion. Some of his friends stood against these invaders, trying to fight back, but they were killed or captured quickly. Vincent chose to  pick his battles and this was one he knew he couldn't win. He went peacefully along with a fair number of others from his local city, into Combine custody where he was transported a long way from his home to a very dirty, decrepit city.

Vincent was now away from home, alone, hungry, and scared and in a city he didn't know along with people he didn't know. There was a new lifestyle to get used to. One of oppression and sorrow. His ideals of resisting an oppressive government soon faded and his ideals and need of self preservation took over more than ever. The events that took place in the past hardened Vincent emotionally, but made him more reclusive, as he felt the more he laid low, the better he could survive. He figured it was best to stay out of the spotlight, so to speak.

Although he felt just getting by as simply as possible was best, he saw how the local police force seemed to be in good physical shape. He knew they had food and shelter and training. He knew they were recruiting more and more members of their organization from the local populace and he saw an opportunity to better himself. "Perhaps I could get that aviation training I always wanted", he though to himself.

Suggestions / Re: General Goods Suggestions and Plugins
« on: March 08, 2014, 12:42:06 PM »
We don't need a lot of plugins. More plugins/content means longer download times which means less people to join the server that haven't played here before. We're striving for higher population, not more scripted things and plugins. Which is a large part of why the new CP models weren't brought back and we're using the old ones again. Honestly I think its a waste of time to post any plugin suggestions. I already know RiffleballBat isn't going to allow more content to be added for the very reason I mentioned.
You do know that plugins are just simple .txt/.lua files. They aren't exactly massive files like the CP models. They only take unnoticeable seconds to load.

Then tell khub or alex to add your plugins

Suggestions / Re: authorizations
« on: January 19, 2014, 02:02:40 PM »
The problem with the old auth system was that you had to apply for nearly everything. I remember when I played one time, found a brick and used it to attack someone. Guess what, he started asking me for auths. Do you REALLY think its that hard to find a brick where the buildings are beginnining to wear down, and I mean, it's a brick. Or one time I had a non UU tshirt, guess what, I got bothered because I didn't have auths for it. Do you really think every single shirt magically disappeared off the face of the planet never to be seen again? If you have ever gone dumpster diving in your life you'd be amazed at the stuff you can find, but guess what, you need auths for nearly everything. Spot auths would be there to fix that problem, as I really dont think writing a multi paragraph application is necessary for a brick or a tshirt. Not only that, but does anyone at all remember how long it took for your application to be accepted/looked at? I remember when it sometimes took over a month. Spot auths fix that problem as it shouldn't take more than 30mins to go through the flow chart.

Then if that's the problem, why not have both? Personally, I can see the advantages to Spot Auths, but the one key flaw that I do see is that they take place over steam so like previously mentioned, its a simple means of "lets ask the admin who likes me best!" so in which case, I think it should be forum based. While yes, it does sort of defeat the purpose of it being a "Spot" auth, we can go about making the authorization process for something like you mentioned much less...tedious. So instead of writing paragraphs for something insignificant, you can just list the character getting it, what you want, list the advantages and disadvantages and then write like one paragraph on how you plan to use it and submit.

Why not have auths separated into tiers or something? For example, Tier 3 auths would include things such as clothing, minor melee weapons (shanks, bats, razors), minor knowledge (novice level of more major skills), minor equipment (tools, helmets, rope), and minor abilities (light parkour, light gymnastics, etc) which would consist of the Spot Auth format and would be essentially fast to complete and fast to get reviewed (probably the same day), probably just looked at by any basic administrator and given the okay so that way people get their little needs and wants out of the way without a long process and there are still recorded documentation of it.

Tier 2 could consist of moderate melee (swords, axes, brass knuckles, etc), minor projectiles (sling shots, homemade bows, BB guns), moderate knowledge, moderate equipment, moderate abilities and the like which can maybe also be handled by Spot Auth formatting or not depending on what it is.

Tier 3 would be the big stuff which would, without a doubt be handled by the old auth system which would include firearms, above average knowledge, above average equipment, above average abilities and what not.

To be honest, I can find myself agreeing with this and it's really the best of both worlds since it encompasses both the want of a new system and the well known uses of the already established system. It's a compromise, you see? Everyone gets what they want.

I was going to post this very thing, but you beat me to it. Therefore you sir, are an fagit.

Yes, we should keep the application auth system as it was, but also give hl2rp SA+ admins the authority to give in game auths without applications.

UU.S0.93817 938 received a secured transmission in the weeks before all hell broke loose in City 17. Rumors began to spread among the ranks about the possibility of disloyalty from 93817. Just a few days before the events that led to chaos in the city, 93817 just simply disappeared and none of his former comrades knew his true fate. Did the transmission he received shortly before his disappearance have anything to do with his fate? Only 938 knows... (//I know the true story of what happened to 938 but I'll only tell certain people, if I'm asked.)

Vincent Valtiere Vincent stayed in the Ineu Valley for a few more months, thinking back to the old days of the canals. He'd escaped the OTA and Combine more times than he could he count and he was still alive and breathing. He fell in with a group of armed mercenaries moving through the area looking for supplies and extra hands and left the Ineu Valley with them, never to be seen again. Where he is today or if he's alive is unknown.

Sheperd 'Shep' Thomas Sheperd remained a loyalist and promoted Union Watch activities up until the day he was killed during the rebellion in City 17. He died young, but at least he died believing in something.

Jessica Landsford Jessica was always resourceful and more intelligent than most people gave her credit for. This paid off for her when she managed to escape City 17 during chaotic events that unfolded during the rebellion. There were rumors that an attractive girl that didn't look like she fit in a post-apocalyptic world was seen in the nearby Ineu Valley area with groups of other survivors. Perhaps Jessica made it out alive and to the Valley after all?

Jessica landsford is intelligent yet she shits on a stripper pole and then siscors with another stripper on stage with her pussy juice squirting all over her and he stage? Or is it just that she has MPD? Haha  ;)

I'm a troll to the last.  ;)

The only real problem I have is with the hacking. I wouldn't see "Advanced Hacking" as being acceptable based on the backstory. True advanced computer knowledge of any kind requires at least a 4 year degree in some computer science and then a good few years of actual time spent doing those computer skills on a job. I could see basic hacking and computer skills being feasible though. The fact that your character is only 18 doesn't logically show that he would have had anywhere near 4 years or even 1 full year of college courses on computer skills. Sure, he could learn a fair amount on his own but it all still be basic.

Also, as Yak said, change your application to say worms if that is what you're truly applying for knowledge on. Also, if this is accepted, don't use this as an excuse to hack into former Soviet super computers in the city. The only thing in your application that seems to support your character being able to bypass a security system is just being very creative and being able to guess passwords easily. All in all, just be careful what you're hacking into if this get's accepted. I should hear about you hacking into the Union Database through a rigged wifi signal and deleting everything with worms and viruses.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Re: On the Capture RP Last Night
« on: May 17, 2013, 11:11:25 PM »
I'm just going to post to clear up a few things regarding what actually happened when Elizabeth was "killed". Referring to twinkle's post where he described the events from his perspective, that was mostly correct. The only additions would be the fact that I did fire a shot and confirm a kill over the radio and I did roll her body out on a gurney with a sheet over it, covered in blood. However, no other unit but myself would know what was actually done to the body. I never informed anyone that it was being incinerated. Who ever said that must have just assumed that was the case. 938 is the only unit that even still today, knows the whole story and everything that actually unfolded that day. 938 even has a legitimate way to get himself out of this should he be confronted that is relatively indisputable by logic, especially due to the fact that he is the leading unit when it comes to anything medical.

In regards to Elizabeth's capture, it sounds like Toxic got very sloppy in her RP and failed to evade capture due to slipping up, assuming everything posted so far is true. If these allegations of DNA testing are in fact true, I'll be looking into that. Red's original post in this thread regarding the rules of DNA collection are indeed true and accurate and there are no exceptions to those rules, regardless of your division. However, on another note, putting any DNA testing aside, I don't believe Elizabeth would be able to change herself THAT much to where you couldn't tell there was absolutely no physical similarity to her former self.

As for the renovation of the theater and 685's capture leading to the discovery of the hidden base and the capture of Elizabeth, Pettit's motives sound valid, assuming what's been posted is true and accurate.
