Half-Life Two Roleplay Update

* Added alternative command for Radio, R

This is obviously the best change. Many thanks for the update, though.

But really, this is the best change.

2
Simplest solution: Time.

It will take a little while, but you will get over her and all she's done (assuming you're offended at her for finding someone else). The process will be shortened quite a bit if you are able to find someone else for yourself. You will be rewarded for "putting yourself out there" by meeting and getting to know people. Hard times are not fun at all, but then again that's why they're not called "fun times". As harsh as this may sound; get over it, move on. You're still young and it's not the end of the world so don't treat it as such.

edit: Brandon and Jonco beat me too the punch, it seems, but everything still applies.

Richard Edward Broomfield's Civil Authority Application

OOC Name: Chris Tyler

IC Character Name: Richard Edward Broomfield

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.
Richard abused prescription medication which led to a downward spiral in his life. He lost his job, his house, and everything in between. During his life before the occupation of the Combine, Richard was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This is due to a botched home invasion that destroyed another man's life. Richard was a broken man and was left without a cause or purpose in his life. He was clearly without a hope in the world.

Que the Combine invasion. During the inevitable confusion and sheer destruction of the Seven-Hours War, Richard was able to escape California State Penitentiary. Oddly enough, he believes he owes his life to the Combine and Civil Authority for giving him a "clean slate." Richard considers himself free despite the harsh conditions of the Metroplex where he and other citizens are imprisoned.

Because of his freedom Richard has become a devoted loyalist, helping the Civil Authority when and where he can. However, he feels that the mundane tasks the CCA tasks him with are not praised. Richard strives for a more "hands on" approach in assisting them. Like a fool, he has fallen headfirst for the speeches given by the loyalists in his block and the Civil Administration. In them he sees a purpose that was never given to him before the occupation.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
Loyal and driven, Richard is one to see something through when given a task. However, his recent depression has left him unable to see things in an optimistic light.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
I've gained a Civil Authority standing in MULTIPLE communities. Everything from HL2land, MMORP, HarmonyGaming, to TnB has accepted me into their ranks as a CP. As such, I'd consider myself well versed in the workings of a Civil Authority organization in HL2 RP. I expect an experience in the CCA to be very similar to my past experiences in that I hope to help the community by furthering the RP taking place. You can't have a good story without a good antagonist. That antagonist is the CCA.

I hope this jump into the CCA will help develop my character. For better or for worse character development is never a bad proposition and should be exploited wherever possible. If I am promoted into an outstanding rank that results in all emotions and memories being suppressed then I will take it. If I am killed for insubordination, then I will take it. It's all development and development is key.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
It was lights out for California State Penitentiary. Inmate 142983 laid his head back on his cot and thought. There wasn’t much room for anything else in his cramped, cement cell. Thinking made him worry and worrying was like a cat toying with a mouse until it was dead. Except in this case the mouse was his psyche. Tonight was going to be another sleepless night.

Richard, or Dick as his “friends” preferred, was an upstanding California citizen. Well he wasn’t exactly the most obedient and law-abiding citizen, but at least he paid his taxes… mostly. It wasn’t until Richard was introduced to the devil in pill form, Roxies they called them. A single pill could put anyone into a daze, and two would plunge you into deeper into the fog. Any more than that and you were letting those pretty, pink pills reek havoc on you, and it was lights out after that. A pill coma could last anywhere from 2 to 12 hours, but it seemed like a lifetime for anyone in it.

Sure taking them here and now wouldn’t screw Richard over would it? Maybe, if he just took them just this once, everything would be okay and he’d have a great time in the process. Down the hatch. That euphoric feeling rushed into him and warmed him up. It made him feel as though he was the most alive he’d ever been; yet he felt like he could die at any moment. It was a rush. Dick was hooked.

The funny thing about those pretty, pink pills is they only last as long as you’ve got the cash for them. And when the money ran out, people got pill sick. Richard wasn’t any different. From losing his job he became desperate for that euphoric warmth to come back. His body shook and his head pounded. Minutes felt like hours. He was desperate.

Desperation has a clever way of rooting into someone’s being and bringing out the worst in a person. Desperation caused Richard to consider breaking into that well-to-do house down the street. Desperation put that old .32 in Richard’s hand.  Desperation is what pulled the trigger on the man who was only trying to protect his family.

Richard had put a bullet in Thomas Duran’s lower spine between the second and third lumbar discs. Richard had paralyzed a man from the waist down. California didn’t take kindly to such an action and with it’s new Three Strikes Law, Richard was shit out of luck. Convicted in ’96 of possession of a stolen firearm, attempted robbery, and attempted homicide, the judge happily sentenced Richard to a life term. Richard let the state take everything and the only thing they gave back to him was a number.

Inmate 142983 looked out of the small window in his cell. The night sky was lit up with an eerie green. He could swear he heard an explosion out in the distance. “How odd,” he thought.

Do you think you could become bored again and make me a signature?

It'd have to be with Vash the Stampede from Trigun on a red and black background like you did the catwoman one. And of course with Chris Tyler somewhere on it. I'm sure we could work out some sort of deal to make it worth your while (perhaps a $10 game on Steam?).

I agree about some CP minges. Today, I got arrested and my sentence was ten minutes, the cop came back an hour later with the excuse: "Had a sh*t, then fapped". Seriously. There was another cop trolling around in the nexus, not letting me out when I asked.

I wouldn't call any of the CPs minges. Sure some of them have their moments, but in my experience, MOST are at least decent roleplayers and take RP quite seriously. Besides, a bit of humor on the server never hurts now and again.

"Arrival"

The newly dubbed Universal Union had an influx of applicants almost immediately after the first Cities had been constructed. Those who sought the promise of better food and protection from the dangers that manifested themselves within City walls. Others joined simply for a chance gaining the illusion of power in this new world. Wallace Breen oversaw the construction of these fortified housing structures along with the construction of lies that were expertly woven into his daily speeches. Taylor noted the man did have an excellent speaking voice and silver tongue. Administrator Breen promised a "brighter future" and "vast technological and social benefits" from cooperating with the Combine. Most knew a different story involving highly coordinated strikes against those who spoke out against 'our wonderful Union'.

Taylor settled down as best she could in City 05, one of many installations that had cropped up on North America's East coast. In a run-down apartment block that smelled distinctly of blood, shit and bad cooking. Taylor laid down on the moth-eaten sheets of her single mattress. This new life took some getting used to, but she could manage. She could try and fool herself into thinking that she'd been through worse times, but she in her mind she knew better. This was as close to a hell as one could get without taking the long sleep. Her mind thought back to her parents, her sister and her friends, all of their fates unknown to her. After a long while, sleep overtook her.

That night, those calling themselves the Resistance brutally beat and killed a recruit on patrol. The Judgement Waiver sirens roared to life in the early hours of the morning, signalling the chaos that would soon follow. Civil Protection officers flooded Taylor's apartment complex and corralled the citizens down into the lobby. Something was different about the way the Officers carried themselves this time. They seemed excited about something and Taylor could see it in they walked. The Officers split the herd into two separate lines. Those in Taylor's line were escorted at gunpoint toward the City's only trainstation to await transfer. Rumor had it that those in the other line were dead before train arrived to transport Taylor away.

"City 45"

Standing over her, the Civil Protection officer put her full weight onto Taylor's back, forcing her down. Without remorse, the female officer kicked her in the rib cage while she was down. Taylor coughed up the bit of blood that had accumulated in her mouth from a newly busted lip.

This new City would take some time to get used to.

"4:32"

Taylor awoke from a dead sleep. She looked over to the alarm clock positioned on the nightstand. The red LED display showed 4:32am and Taylor turned over in her bed and looked away from it. She knew she'd have to be up in an hour and a half anyway to get ready for work, but that didn't seem to matter. Any amount of sleep would be welcomed at this point and she could allow herself a bit of procrastination. Taylor toyed with the thought of calling in and taking the day off, but it had hardly been two weeks since she'd started at Calhoun's as a server. The money was good enough and she'd already made a few friends on the lunch shift. She didn't want to jeopardize this opportunity, but her mind still fought with Procrastination. Her mind went several places as she laid on the twin bed.

Thirty minutes must have passed as Taylor McMahan tossed and turned in her sheets. Something didn't feel right, but she couldn't quite put her finger on exactly what that was. It was as good a time as ever to get up and step outside. She wearily pushed herself out of the warmth and comfort her bed provided and put a coat over her bra. No one would be up at this hour, but if they were she didn't mind too much to put on a show for whoever happened to be looking. After finally finding her pack of Marlboro Special Blend shorts, she headed out onto the porch of her two-bedroom condo. The air was crisp and nipped at her legs as she stepped out into the open porch and her hands started to shiver lightly. Quickly she fished out a cigarette and within moments she had taken her first few draws from her first one of the day. She let her mind drift to her parents and her sister that was only a few years younger than her.

"Collapse"

Chaos. The Christmas season truly brought out the worst in people, Taylor thought as she attempted to navigate the hordes of Knoxville, Tennessee traffic. The interstate would have proven to be a much faster alternative, but ever since she rear-ended that man on I-40, she'd never been too keen on driving it. It was a quarter past seven and she was sure she'd be late to work today. Traffic had slowed to a crawl on Kingston Pike, and Taylor's mind was wondering once again this morning. Robert, the shift manager and her boss, probably wouldn't take too kindly to her being late, but she was sure he'd understand with the insane amount of traffic that had amassed on the roads. Perhaps he'd even laugh at the joke Taylor had come up with, referring to the Christmas shoppers as moronic assholes with money in their pockets and shit in their skulls. What would she do if he took offense to the crude statement? Taylor looked down to the dashboard of her Honda Prelude. She still had ten minutes and only two miles to go, but if this traffic didn't move any faster she'd be late for sure.

A jolt rocked the car to a halt and caused Taylor gasp in panic. She'd rear-ended the white SUV in front of her. A number of curse words came to mind as she quickly threw the car into park and opened the car door. Oddly the man who's car she'd hit was already standing outside of the SUV. Looking up, the man appeared to be awe-struck like a deer in front of a fast approaching pair of headlights. Something wasn't right, Taylor's mind had concluded. She approached the man and apologized several times as she did so, but he didn't even spare a second to glance at her. His face looked as though the color had been drained from it and to Taylor it looked as though he'd been scared shitless. Taylor happened to glance around toward the other motorists, some of which had already stepped out of their own vehicles and looked upward. None paid any attention to Taylor or the man with the white SUV.
Confused and bewildered, Taylor finally looked up. The view inspired both awe and fear.

Thousands of otherworldly ships dotted the sky and were steadily flying out in all directions. The invasion known as the 7-Hour War had commenced without any warning. Taylor's world, as she knew it, came crashing down in a fiery blaze.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Re: First Impressions on the Server.
« on: December 31, 2011, 05:07:10 AM »
I actually had something similar to this happen to me once before. Not to name names but it really wasn't the recruits' fault, what with them being 'croots and all.

On the other hand I've had some really awesome experiences with other members of the CCA. One time being where a well RP'd sobriety test was preformed.

Overall I really like the atmosphere of this community.

11
And I'm sure anyone that has a problem with the current administration's actions could take it up with the administrator in a well constructed private message rife with constructive criticism. It's amazing what politeness and class can accomplish.

12
A community requires two basic aspects to survive. Administration and player base. Without one the other falls into chaos or ceases to exist.

Obviously, with being new to the community, I don't know the exact situation as it stands with the administration of this community. That being said, I have been an active part of multiple rp communities, including some of which where I was able to gain administrator privileges.

The one problem I see with this "Occupy Main Street" movement is that this is an act that WILL divide members of the community. Dividing a community such as this is EXTREMELY detrimental to the overall health (population, satisfaction with members, satisfaction with admins) of the server(s). Division of members into those who "support" and those who do not causes a fracture to occur in the community. This fracture could carry over to the server and IC interaction between players. Any fracture in any community is highly detrimental to the community. I really can't make that any more clear.
