General Discussion / Re: New Jet Boat

I've never seen a monstrocity of a motor boat like that before, jeezus christ. It takes a lot of force to dislocate that amount of water to move that quickly. That thing's packing some serious heat in the horsepower department. How good will it's gas consumption rates be?

I want to have the power to absorb others powers.

That would suck if u were the only person in the world with a power.

Or if you couldn't control it and suddenly found yourself with the power to shift into a tree at random intervals.

All of 40K would just shit all over the combine and go back to squabbling with each other, basically.

Easy babes.

Now hold on here, it says I have 2 posts now? I may have been confused, do only posts that aren't in application sections count as actual posts? If so, I will meet the requirement and re-apply when I have.

Cybernetic eyes and implants that could calculate distances, velocities and trajectories on the fly. That moment when your eyes tell you that a man half a mile away could be fatally wounded by your S&W .40 pistol and then sends the trajectory data to your arms that perfectly tracks the target, leads him and fires, ending with his death about a half second later.

Not law enforcement, or military. Private security. There's a difference. I have an auth app going through right now that has an SA's support for that background if you don't believe me.

And if you read, I do state that my post count is bugged.

EDIT: Sorry, my mistake, it doesn't appear to say that in the app, I could have sworn I wrote it, terribly sorry, I'll add that now.

James McKinnley's Civil Authority Application

OOC Name: Sheo

IC Character Name: James McKinnley

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.
First off, I'd like to begin by saying I do not meet the requirement of having been here for two weeks. I'd like to be honest about that, but please don't stop here, I'd like to prove to you why I'm fit for CCA, because I truly believe I am, and that I could provide a beneficial role as a Civil Protection Unit.

EDIT: As stated before, my post count IS bugged, if someone could aid me in fixing it that'd be appreciated.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
James' McKinnley is a complex person. He's hotheaded when confronted, yet calm and collected when faced with a problem. He's inhumanly loyal to whoever he perceives as his friend, even to the very lengths of completely trusting a stranger after only speaking a few minutes with them.

He also has an old world sense of honor, and integrity. He believes that problems should be faced with courage and determination, and is head strong in that manner, unwilling to accept defeat.

Some of these qualities would make him a good unit, or a good leader, but due to experiences before the 7 hour war, he would find himself unable to inflict harm upon someone he perceives as defenseless, or to kill someone, regardless of whether it was in cold blood or not without specialized attention and conditioning that the Civil Protection could provide.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
McKinnley at heart is a good person. In his heart, he believes that the CCA is where he belongs, to help protect the city from who he perceives as terrorist scum due to early experiences with citizens who took advantage of his naiive loyalty to harm him and take everything he had. McKinnley took these people to be rebels, and immediately branded them in his mind that he would set out to make sure that they couldn't harm anyone else.

I expect his stay in the CCA to be a good one. Rough at first though, because of his inability to harm or kill anyone on orders. If the CCA can condition him to pass that blockage of his, I believe he could become an exemplary unit, sharp witted, quick to obey, and rather quick to inflict physical harm on anyone that arouses his suspicion as a potential rebel or terrorist.

For me, the man behind the character, I believe that I will enjoy it  because I will be actually able roleplay something I take great pleasure in. I'm at heart a gung-ho kind of guy who would rather protect someone in the heat of the moment than leave them twisting in the wind. The CCA would allow me to do that, by helping my fellow Civil Protection, helping the occasional citizen, and by kicking the shit out of rebel trash.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
A few years before the 7 hour war, James McKinnley was a young man with a bright mind, he was athletic, quick witted, and was an exemplary young man to everyone he met. But he had a naiive point of view on life, looking for what a lot of young men would at his age. "Action".

The desire to fight, to be a soldier, to be a 'hero'. McKinnley was convinced by his parents that the military wouldn't be a good choice for his career because legally they would own him through out his contract.

So he took the next best thing and joined a Private Security Company called "Windbolt Security". It was a large, and very professional company, ex-military and law enforcement personnell were hired as instructors, teaching James how to defend himself, how to handle a weapon, and physically conditioning him to be in the shape of his life.

He was eager for action when he finally graduated and had his 'Armed Private Security License', and immediately took the first job he could find as one; an armed guard on a merchant vessel destined to pass by Somolian waters, an area where pirates could still operate. He went looking for action, and what he found without the discipline that the military would have provided, scarred his mind, and he immediately resigned and flew back home to live alone as an unarmed security guard for a casino, and for several years did good work in that profession, until the 7 hour war hit. James hid, he didn't know what the hell was going on, but shit was hitting the fan, that much he knew, and by the time he'd gotten his wits about him, he was rounded up into an internment city before he could even blink. He was orginally in City 82, located where Las Vegas used to be. The City was very overcrowded, and confusing for James until a few years later he was deported here, to City 45 as a part of a isolation operation to relieve some of the over crowding in his previous city.

((That background is based on my Auth app, and is still being reviewed, but it has support.))

((The following paragraphs will be detailing only IC encounters and experiences that happened in the server from this point on.))

Just a few minutes after he stepped off the train, tired and sleep deprived, he sat on a bench in the town square, his head in his hands wearily.
A large man approached him, seemingly out of nowhere.
"Hey, you there.. You want to make a few tokens without waiting for the rations?" The large man asked.
James blinked a couple times, looking up and rubbing his eyes. "What...?"
The man took a look at him, noticing the dark rings around his eyes.
"Jeez man, you need to get some sleep..."

"No no, I meant about the tokens, you said something about being able to get some?" He asked, as curious as he could be in his weary state.

"Yeah," The man said. "I've got a fridge that I need someone to help me move." He said with a slight smile. "You sure you can work like this buddy? You seem pretty out of it."

James nodded, standing up and rubbing his eyes.
"So what's your name?" The man asked.

"James."

"Huh.. Okay James, well, my apartment is on the second floor, as long as you don't pass out on the stairs we'll be fine."

As they reached his apartment, the man slipped a couple tokens into the combine lock on the door. James would have thought it suspicious, but in his restless state he hardly noticed. The man pointed to the side of the fridge. "Alright, you lift from that side, I'll lift from this side." He said. James nodded with a tired sigh, squatting down beside the fridge and waiting for the man to get to the other side and help. After a few seconds, he didn't, and James turned to see what he was doing and the man bashed him in the back of the head with a piece of rebar, splitting his head open and rendering him slumped against the fridge, unconscious, with blood pouring out of the back of his head.

The man searched him, stealing all of his tokens from his pockets and anything else he could find. Just a few seconds later, he dragged McKinnley's body up the stairs, leaving him unconscious on the top floor and fled the scene.

A few seconds later, he stirred to see a concerned young lady looking down at him, who helped him to his feet and down to the plaza, McKinnley looking worse by the minute as he stumbled, pale from bloodloss and his serious concussion.

A Civil Protection immediately noticed him and took him into his care , laying him down on a plaza bench and putting pressure on the wound. He hazily saw another unit approach the one tending to him. The conversation was just a blur to his memory, but his mind distinctly remembers the Unit calling his caretaker "392".

He was taken to the hospital by a shield unit, who promptly abandoned the confused, injured man when finding out that the doors were locked. Then 392 came back, with some sort of special unit with him, determined to help. They unlocked the hospital doors and brought him inside, 392 diligently insisting that they help him and not leave him to die, even persuading his superior to lend a hand a bit. James didn't understand at first why this CCA was so determined to save his life. He looked up, not at the mask, but at the man behind the mask and simply asked "Why?"

The CCA stared back at him for a moment before replying "Because I care."

This experience had a profound impact on James when he recovered from his injury, with an ugly scar on the back of his head to remind him of it. He began approaching CCA whenever he could, his sense of honor demanding that he had a debt to pay, finding loyalist work from the units who would give it out, rounding up other citizens to do patrols and search for anyone committing m,alcompliance deeds, but above all worshipping the very ground the CCA walked, determined to become one of them.

5) Have you ever had a CCA character here at Catalyst Gaming?  If so, explain why it was removed.
No, I have not.

OOC Details

1. How long have you played on role-playing servers in general?
I don't consider my time roleplaying to have begun on a server, but rather on a forum, in full-literate, serious roleplay about 4 or 5 years ago.

2. How long have you played on serious servers?
1 or 2 years.

3. How long have you played on Catalyst Gaming?
A few days.

4. What Time zone are you in?
Central Standard Time

5. In what country do you live?
USA

6. How old are you?
16

7. Whats your most memorable quality RP experience?
I was the leader of a Enclave Sigma Squad in Fallout New Vegas roleplay. I used completely underhanded tactics to take advantage of my enemies, I had a vertibird at my disposal and made a 'deal' with the Legion that if they gave me the warheads they had been storing, I'd drop them on the NCR during the upcoming battle from the vertibird.

I then promptly convinced the NCR I would help them wipe out the legion in exchange for acquittal of the rest of the Enclave with my vertibird and the bombs I had acquired should they not side with the brotherhood during the battle.

I then proceeded to level the NCR, take control of the town, shut out the legion and maintained a short raid until people decided that the NCR was stupid for the oversight that allowed me to take control of the town. I disbanded the Enclave, took over the NCR, and ran a tighter ship, and made things as canon as possible, running it like a conventional military, and actually keeping discipline throughout the ranks, unlike the previous leader before me.

8. Do you consider yourself a good listener?
Yes

Authorization(s):
I'm applying to have private security experience on my main character, James McKinnley. Meaning that he was a member of a Private Military Company similar to Academi (Blackwater's new-fangled name).

I don't expect you to give this privilege away without any proof of my ability to be serious, and my abilities at roleplaying, so it's my intention to prove that to you through a short-story based on James' past as a Private Security Specialist, which you will find later below in the app.

Name: James McKinnley
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Affiliation: CCA

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.
(By the way, I put CCA seeing as he wishes to become a CCA, not that he IS a CCA unit.)

James squinted out from the starboard side of the ship, the hot Caribbean sun beating down on his burned, red features. He was still a young man, only 21 years old at the time, having barely seen anything of the world yet, still with his own naiive view on right and wrong, as the way a child would look at the world. He'd just graduated from the Windbolt Private Security academy, and now found himself in their employment on a merchant vessel bound for Somali, a hotspot for pirate activities, where it could still go unhindered. He heard the beat of the waves breaking against the sleek keel of the vessel, felt the rolling motion of it's ride on the rough waters deep in the pit of his stomach. He wanted to vomit, getting pale from his deep hatred of seafaring. The only reason he took the assignment is because it was the only one Windbolt had available at the moment, and he needed the cash, and experience the job would provide to be tooken seriously for better positions.

He leaned on the railing with his left hand, taking it from the foregrip of his M4A1 Assault carbine, straining himself not to vomit out into the dark blue waters. He heard footsteps on the deck to his left and looked, squinting against the glare of the sun at his commanding officer.
"Going to get sick again, Mr. McKinnley?" his superior asked, amused.

James did his best to deny it, his flushed and pale features betraying his ill feelings. His commanding officer for this ride was a stern man, one of experience. His comrades told him that the man was a Navy Seal, and was honorably discharged with a purple heart after a wound he sustained on a special op, but yet still wanted to get back into the fray of things. James, in his naiive way, looked up to him for this, something the veteran would probably find absurd, worshipping someone because they were shot in some war that they couldn't even explain to their family.
His superior chuckled, giving him a sturdy pat on the back.

"You'll get your seafaring legs under you soon, I'll wager. Or at least you better, if you want to shoot any pirates today."
James nodded weakly, the young man still eager for 'Action'...

He wasn't prepared for what he'd get that day.

Only a few minutes later, his radio crackled, making him look up from the waves at which he'd been staring. He pulled his radio up from his belt as his superior officer barked "A skip's coming in, port side!"

James' heart had stopped beating for a moment with excitement, he dashed around the captain's cabin to see his superior officer and the other two private security specialists  standing behind one of the 'fortifications' the men had layed from sandbags earlier in the voyage. He stood there, motionless as his superior stared at him, as if James was some incurable form of dumb and stupid.

"McKinnley, get your weapon hot and get over here!" He finally barked.

James flushed a deep red and scurried to obey, getting on one knee and flipping his rifle off of safety, laying the barrel shroud on the sandbags to support the weapon and taking deep breaths, steadying his breathing to be ready to fire.

...

The small motorboat grew closer, on a direct crash collision course with the side of the ship. Closer, and closer, it skipped across the water, breaking waves against it's side, for what seemed like minutes to McKinnley, but were only seconds. Just a moment later, as James could hear the sound of it's motor over the quiet crash of the waves came his superior, in a calm, icy tone.

"Fire."

The rattle of gunfire and brass bouncing across the clean deck of the ship echo'd in his ears. James didn't know which was more deafening, the sound of his own weapon, or the three ones next to him. Gouts of ocean spray jetted into the air as bullets slapped the dark waters, deflecting off of the boat, and even more giving a puff of grey mist as it punched through the fiberglass exterior. James kept firing, wincing from the gunshots until the small boat slammed into the side of the vessel with a dull thud, before slowly drifting away into the wake of the merchant ship.

But not before James saw the bodies. Four men were in the motor boat. Their bodies, torn asunder by gunfire, sticky, wet blood staining the white ship, their dead or soon to be eyes staring up at him, the last thing they'd ever see. He immediately keeled over the side of the ship and vomited out into the water. He felt his fellow comrades watching him, and wiped his mouth dizzily with the back of his sleeve, before turning to face them.

They were all stone faced. Uncaring, for the death they just dealt. James suddenly felt sick again, stumbling his way back into his quarters. His comrades' vain attempts to comfort him along the rest of the voyage didn't help. He'd seen everything he ever needed to of combat.

As soon as they reached harbor, he punched his ticket, flew back home and quit, living alone in a quiet job as an unarmed security guard.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?

Wisdom

Defects
Fear of killing / death

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
Aid my character in his journey to join the CCA.

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))

Extra Notes (optional):
Please say yes. That story took a long-fucking-time.

Hey there everyone. I'm Sheo. Started playing Catalyst Gaming today, enjoyed my first day of roleplay in your community so far (Although it's gone mostly bad, beginning with me being bashed in the back of the head with a piece of rebar and having all of my tokens stolen.)
I'll make it plain now that I intend on joining the CCA. There's no shame about it for me, I just enjoy the roleplay.

Anyways, I hope to make my stay in Catalyst a long one. Hope to see you all on the server(s).
