I'm not saying that the administration needs to just completely step away and not do anything, because that would be just stupid. I'm saying that the administration needs to take a few steps back, is all. My examples were a bit extreme and biased in most cases (like the 45 minute thing, that was usually when ota was involved so that was pretty much players yeah), but they still hold some valid ground. I mean, I know you guys have the best interest of the players in mind when you're stepping in and all, but if you keep doing that whenever something goes 'wrong', roleplay isn't going to develop naturally at all. It's just going to keep being a construct of what's been 'changed or fixed' in a sense.

One example of this I found was the administrative restriction on D2/P3/the different names its been called for units. I always was given the impression, and even told on different occasions, that entering there as a unit was seen as breaking a physical rule, and you'd be confronted by the admins by it. Okay, so in that case, what's the point of the CCA having policies on it? I mean, if there's going to be so many cases where the administration steps in to solve problems, why do these different IC factions have rules on these, yet don't get to interact with the character in a 'natural' fashion?

since when did we have to be in charge to draft a change plan for people to get ideas from
Stop being defensive. Statua was reminding you that while you may plan whatever you so please for the CWU, whomever Rofl does place in charge of the CWU will have the authority to either use or discard your system and ideas.

and I was merely reminding him that I can plan things if I'd like to, and post them here for people to discuss. It's not being defensive by pointing that fact out

and also, I'd just like to drop this here

In the past, decisions regarding Half-Life 2 Roleplay at Catalyst Gaming have been made by the administration team and "respected players." With the return of HL2RP at Catalyst Gaming, we want to increasingly place the responsibility of decision making into the hands of the community. In these boards, all opinions are as valid as the next. Each will be given the same consideration, no matter the rank, prestige, or experience of whoever posts it. If you have a suggestion and wish for it to be heard, you should post it here.

Probably one of the biggest issues I had with the previous HL2RP server was the the administration basically had to stick their nose in everything that went on, and step in/said "this can't happen" with so much stuff. I mean, there were so many different issues that the administration would get involved in, and there would end up either being:

a) a big break in immersion
b) the possible voiding of the entire RP because they didn't like something that happened
c) a 45 minute debate in LOOC where people are waiting for nothing to happen

The administration on the server needs to take a big five steps back from things and not get involved unless there's REAL rulebreaking or a break in what's realistic roleplay. If a unit goes into a restricted area, don't be the retarded admin that comes and physguns them back into P1. let High Command deal with it, not admins. If someone walks into P1 with a gun and draws it, let CCA members deal with it, because thats their job, not an admins. And if someone is being a douchebag ICly, let them get what comes to them ICly; an admin doesn't have to intervene and mold the environment in the way they want to. People need to do that for themselves or there's going to be no enjoyment in the server.

I dont think merging them is the best of options. Thats like saying lets merge OTA and CCA into one group because they have similar jobs. The reason why they were so dull and one-tracked was because no one really put a ton of effort into making fundamental changes in what the CWU/CAB were doing, and there were also a lot of restrictions put in place by the overwhelming roleplay giant that was the CCA.

The CAB and the CWU need to be brought closer together, yes, but forming them into one super organization is not the best way to go. Only a few CAB members should be invested in working with the CWU, as there are other tasks that a CA can perform separate from them. Along with that, the CWU has to have some autonomy if they're going to be able to grow/manage themselves effectively. You don't need a bunch of CAB members just there to say 'okay you can do this ya', because that just cockblocks things and makes you have to wait til it gets okay'd by this entire hierarchy.

tl;dr just have a few CAB members heavily involved with the CWU, but dont merge them together because theres no need and it would be a bad idea in general

has anyone considered just not having a mod pack and adding a few select mods that we need/want

No because that means everyone who wants to play on the server has to go out of his way to manually google and download them all.
And knowing that no one cares to do that, the server will be empty as fuck.
FTB is simply plug&play.

<::[[ Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S2 using Tapatalk 2 ]]::>

dont have mods that people need to download, its really not that difficult

I've played on PLENTY of minecraft servers that just have some simple Bukkit mods, such as admin, basic commands, maybe some cool features like perks and the like.

the main districts in hl2 were not filled with guns and we're even further before that

we're not sayingthey should be filled with guns, but there shouldnt be a physical rule that prevents people from bringing out guns in the main districts. The cca are there to deal with those issues, not the administration. If they break a rp rule somehow in the process, then the administration can step in, but other wise they should leave it

im working on creating a system that should make people more interested in either joining the cwu and actively roleplaying their worker, or just generally being involved with them. I should have a rough outline by the end of this weekend or so

Don't restrict guns to certain areas, as thats just ruining the immersion/realism of the roleplay. If someone is going to be retarded enough to use their gun in a precinct full of units/cameras/citizens, then thats kind of their own dumb decision to make. If they break fearRP or some other form of rule violation, then an admin can step in and deal with that. But dont just automatically say 'Hey, you can't use this here before we don't want to have to deal with possible issues'. If they want to be dumb enough to use a gun in the plaza, then get killed for it, there's a good character they put effort into down the drain.

Also, if respectable/trustworthy people are the one's who are getting weapons, this shouldn't really be an issue we have to deal with. I'm sure that the kind of people we'd be allowing to have guns through this system would not just run into the plaza, pull out a SMG, and start shooting.

General Discussion / Re: Lua Tutoring
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:46:48 AM »
I'm not really sure if tutoring sessions are really something that's useful. My honest recommendation would be looking at a book for lua and getting a basic understanding of how it works (like data types, implementations of functions, formatting, etc), then actually looking at code examples and messing around with them. That's how I learned basically.

Also, I would like to mention that chances are, you aren't going to learn in a week or two. It'll take a few months before you really get a good understanding and a hand on what to do in all the different cases.
