Title: How Has Your 2014 Been?
Post by: JF on December 31, 2014, 12:35:06 PM
How's your year been? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Absolute shite?

Mine was, well, first half was shit. Broke up with my girlfriend of two years on the 5th of January so that set the scene early for my year. I didn't really like this at year University either. Not got many (any?) proper friends, work has been a drag, took a hit right in the love from a girl I like, dissapointed myself with not working hard enough at uni, AGAIN! xD

Good things? Got my first proper motorbike, got a work placement and possibly a future job doing live sound engineering, which is something I want to do. Can't think of too much that was good about my year. Could be worse, I suppose. I could have Ebola, cancer, be homeless, gotten raped, stabbed, killed etc :)

Hope your year was a good one :)

Kinda have a love hate with this year.

Started off dating a new girl after breaking up with a long term in the november before. Ended up splitting after 2 months cause it was a rebound and I had to figure shit out. She then went to the military. I then found out I had to withdraw from my Paramedic school because I was too far behind and if I challenged the testing, it would have failed so i withdrew to maintain a neutral mark. I then went on a 'journey of self improvement' where I boosted my self image and figured out shit for myself. Probably one of the best things to ever happen to me tbh. Dated a few girls in that time but there wasn't any good connection. Up to august now, got back together with the military girl now that I was actually ready for a serious relationship. Passed one of the courses I wanted to retake with an A (had a C+ before) and am set for 2nd semester. Things went great between me and gf. I had an amazing Christmas with her, then we broke up again on Monday cause the military messed her up and she wants to do her own self journey. No warning signs. Nothing. It looked like we were having a great time, then all of a sudden, poof.

Kinda fucked up year but whatever. Starting 2015 off with a clean slate I suppose.

Also should this be in social discussion?

It's a mix of good and bad for me.
I don't even remember much of the first half of the year (So I suppose nothing worth to remember happened) but I got a proper full time job now which is nice.

But the less bright news, Less than a week ago my grandma got a heart attack causing her to be taken to the hospital, and she suffered from possible brain damage worse enough to possibly never mentally recover again. She sometimes physically wakes up and looks around, but she doesn't respond to anything she sees or hears. So it's likely that she will pass away within the next few days. :\

But part from that, I can't complain much about 2014.

Pretty bad.

My family is already broken in two, my father and my mother hate each other and continue to sue each other over my brother myself.  Not to mention I have to work and my dad gets pissy when I don't work on my truck and I do other things... he expects a 17 year old to know how to build a 1994 Silverado from scratch, and beside that fact I won't even be allowed to drive it...

My great grandmother passed a month or so back... the family on both sides was hurt from that.... now my great grandpa is extremely depressed and we don't know how long he is going to last due to that fact.

I've also gotten hurt quite a lot this year, including going def in my right ear.  I can hear from it, but it's muffled and idk if I will be getting my hearing back.

As for your ear, have you gone to the doctor about it?  I had the same thing, and it turned out that ear wax had just caked up against the ear drum and it was just a simple wash and everything was okay.

Been a good year for me won't bore anyone with the details because mfw
no one really cares how my year has been
but there were certainly more positives for me the negative.

Any of you have any new years resolutions?

I certainly don't

My 2014 has been pretty great, becoming more antisocial, not caring for others.  People I despise have stopped talking to me.  My small group of "friends" are pretty great though.  My life is pretty amazing to me, I love the fact I can do basically anything and nobody cares.  Unfortunately I haven't become completely antisocial due to the fact of this girl I like... Sadly I'm contradicting myself as to where I like her and want to go out with her but yet I want her to say no so I can become a complete lost cause.  Other than that I almost broke a girls hand twice
.. She thought again before telling me she loves me then trying to hold my hand.  As you can tell I'm not a people person, and never will.

I think my year was pretty successful.

do you need sandpaper to round off that edge

You should talk with your school counselor for help. It's not normal to be extremely antisocial, it is detrimental to your health.

I can't complain about my 2014 year. Though 2015 is going to be scary. I'll be going to an out of state college most likely. Savannah College of Art and Design it's looking like so far. Hooray for $33,000 a year tuition.

How is it so detrimental to my health?

Please note I'm not a Psychologist so don't take my words to hard, that's why I recommended you talk with your school counseller as they are FAR better equipted than me.

becoming more antisocial, not caring for others.

I hope you can see how this is a problem. Becomming more and more antisocial will only make it harder for you. Just as an example, how are you going to get a job? An even better question is how are you going to keep it? How are you going to connect with those around you?

Quote
Unfortunately I haven't become completely antisocial due to the fact of this girl I like

Girl problems aside, if people are causing you to be that way then perhaps you should re-evaulate why they are even around you?

Quote
Other than that I almost broke a girls hand twice

Why/how?

Quote
As you can tell I'm not a people person, and never will.

Being antisocial to the point where you lack empathy for others or you don't feel for others should be a red flag.

I can 100% guarentee that there will be some fuck who replies to this post and tries to explain with his neckbeard science how I'm wrong, but Retrocity77, I strongly advise that you just talk to someone. I promise you that it will help you immensly. Don't allow yourself to slowly rot inside out and loose the connection with the world around you.

^^ Colleges -- one of the best national scams to date. I could probably learn everything they'd teach me on YouTube; but I'm also doing it for the prestige of an actual degree (even though it's a BA...not a BS) and networking opportunities. I did end up getting a $11,500 a year scholarship from the school though and I still have to apply to outside scholarships and have the school approve my fafsa. So far, instead of $33,000 a year, I'm looking more at $21,500 a year for just tuition alone.

I'm going to be eating cat food for the next 4 years. (Not seriously, but...yeah, I'm going to be poor.)

I love how a BA, which often gets you nothing, costs 3x more than a certification to shock people with electricity, administer drugs to people that can kill them via injection, and decide who to try and save and who to let die in mass casualty incidents. A national (Canadian) paramedic certificate costs ~$8,000 after all the tuition, books, and uniforms and a license to practice is usually around $400 a year.

The truth. The education system, especially the HE side, is much like the insurance system; you need to be rich or willing to have money stripped out of your arsehole and be in debt for much or all of your life to get anywhere with it.

Pick the UK, Scotland or Germany. I know the Scots and Gerries have free higher education for their citizens. Dunno about over-seas students but anywhere seems to be cheaper than the US, unfortunately.

Only problem is that I can't speak German or really any other language than English, although I am taking a spanish course and I'll be taking another one (2 yrs total) next year.

Also, I read something about Germany offering free tuition to international students.

Though a slightly more unrelated note, I've been looking into stock investment to maybe help out with my costs. I want to try and see if it'll get me anywhere.

That would be incredibly stupid considering how random the stock market is. You could get blue chip stocks but with those you won't get very much money for a loong time. Unless you got a bunch of extra money to spend then hey why not but if you already are stuggling with paying for college then I think that would be a really bad idea.

Well, my dad said he was going to loan me $500 for a Scottrade account to try my hand at Day Trading. I just have to make the money back and pay it to him eventually. Granted, I won't make much with $500 (if I make anything at all) but it's mostly to get my feet wet. Penny stocks. The ones that don't cost over like $5. They're very volatile, I understand, but $500 isn't that much of a loss.
