Title: [WIP] The Forgotten City - joint project with Statua
Post by: garry :D on April 04, 2013, 07:23:03 AM
Long story short: myself and Statua have agreed to do a joint mapping project for the Outlands based on the theme of a ruined city which has been overrun with foliage/vines/nature.

I have made the thread so that we can both edit the OP (I can't edit his posts as a Gold Member) as needed with progress lists and what not.

There is currently no map name so feel free to suggest one. Features are welcome too.

In these pictures, I had started with just the mine and ended up with this from a day of mapping:

There was a TTT map floating around that was essentially a flooded ruined city, I'd recommend taking a look at that for some ideas.

Potential map name: City Zero?

Similar in idea to Subject Zero as for being the first to contract a disease.
The first Union controlled city in which most of the Seven Hour war took place in which is the story behind its destruction and disrepair.

This area is pretty much the only Combine influenced area that is in mind at the moment. The picture here show what will be joined onto the trainstation:

I dunno if this will be understood but I think we should incorporate that building from outer canals; the one with the two/three-story office one with the bent bar windows and good lines of sight. That building would really fit in with the map.

I have a similar wrecked building to the one you are referring to which could be used.

If possible can you make it so every building has rooms on every floor. If not can you do as many buildings with causing less lag. In other words try not to make buildings on the map look like plain models, make it so you can actually enter them and explore them.

EDIT: Also when is a suggestion thread gonna open since i just made a suggestion?

That actually looks quite good. The skybox will probably need to change at some point to fit with the gloomy atmosphere but for dev purposes this looks cool. The vine props might get a bit expensive though if we use them on each building.

Most of the vines are decals and overlays lol. cs_italy textures. So sexy. Anyway the buildings are up to you. I'll do all the exterior naturalizing but I cant do interiors and broken floors and walls n shit like you. This map BTW isnt going to be in the main map. its jsut me trying out things to see what works and what doesnt.

And yes Ramone, we will try to get as many buildings accessible as possible and yes, we will open suggestions as soon as we can decide on a layout.
