Title: Centralized citizen housing
Post by: Atticat on March 04, 2013, 07:56:54 PM
Alright, so I want to say off the bat that:

1. Apoc did a great job with the map
2. This is likely impossible to do at this point

Regardless of the mentioned stuff, I think there should be centralized housing for citizens near the plaza (like the UCH). Currently, the hotel has two problems - there are too many floors (disperses traffic) and there is no elevator. The amount of walking required to get to the higher floors is ridiculous. I think this is a reason for the lack of activity in the town square.

Anyways, thoughts?

1. Ozjackal didn't make the map, Apoc did
2. I don't understand the suggestion itself. What is your definition of "centralized?" And just FYI, I don't think we've ever had any elevator in any civil housing block, but the server's kept on going irregardless.

My fault about the above stuff.

What I meant is without an elevator terminus towers is far too tall. I suggest something like another UCH (an apartment block with 1-2 floors to facilitate traffic and a central area of RP for citizens in the plaza.

there's like 3 apartments in the map already..

Yes but they're spread out and not in the same style as the UCH. Traffic in plaza is usually dead from what I can see. There's no place to go where citizen interaction (outside of P3) is facilitated. Nowhere to room with people and hope the combine don't bust down your door.

It's the city. The threat of 'combine busting down your door' is ever looming. Kinda the whole theme...

Well, agreed that it should be the theme. I have never had it happen once in the new map. Most action takes place in P3 these days, and there is no where else I can find where actual citizen RP happens on a normal basis. For example, I've never seen patrols in P2. I buy apartments every now and then on characters, haven't seen a patrol come by yet near the theater. Haven't had the combine break down a door yet. Nobody reports anything because anybody not in P3 is spread out with no activity going on. So the threat is far from looming. Sadly, it's non-existent.

I also sympathize for the combine players, never thought I would, but all I ever see is them standing around the plaza bored.

that's nice because i do see p2 patrols pretty frequently, maybe you should play more

When was the last time the combine busted your door down? How many times in the past week? From what I understand it's accepted that arrests happen on a lower basis these days (could be wrong, you obviously have more experience than I, and I respect that).

Of course, it's up to the player if you think that is a good or bad thing. Personally I haven't seen much RP in the plaza, which used to be my favorite place to go as a citizen so I didn't have to deal with the goofs in D6.

Please keep in mind, and I should have clarified this, that I'd much rather some sort of revamp of the terminal hotels instead of another apartment block (which we have more than enough of, as noted by others in this thread).

Not that I've been very involved in hl2rp lately, but frankly I think that claiming "no elevator in uch waah" is the cause of low activity in P1 is fucking ridiculous.

Again, I'm not active in hl2rp so maybe I'm just clueless. Nevertheless, I would bet anything that the cause of low activity in P1 is pretty complex and tied to the CWU not doing enough to foster loyalist-centric roleplay in P1.

Honestly, it'd be awesome  to have a faster way of getting to upper hotel levels, you do have to go quite a bit.

I can't imagine anything but people jumping ontop of such elevator, and minges lolpressing it's buttons and annoying everyone.

Edit - this thread is going nowhere. Although I appreciate Atticat's input, I doubt that lack of an elevator in the UCH is capable of lowering activity in a whole precinct.
Suggestion declined.
