Hello everyone! I really need a new graphic card and need some tips. My budget is around $240 (Cant go over and do not want to spend that much) But its the cash I have...
My computer spec:
CPU: AMD Athlon ll X4 620
RAM: DDR2 4GB
Graphic shit card: Radeon HD 4670.......
Motherboard(I think): M4A785-M (ASUSTeK Computer INC.) PCI-Express
Would be awsome to get a new one, Especially so I can run BF3 without lag :S
-
Your cpu will bottleneck a good card, but if you want a medium-high range card (get a cpu upgrade too when you can), an AMD 6870 will be sexy and run a lot, and not too expensive
-
If you want pretty good card, and not that expensive... hmm...
I'd go with nVidia GTX 275/285/295 (295 is designed for SLI and 2 screens though). Think your CPU can handle then, but I am not completely sure.
You'd also upgrade your CPU and go with nVidia GTX 570, but that'd be expensive. But on the other hand, you'd be able to run all games for next 3-4 years with maxed settings.
-
Hm, so my CPU is shit aswell? Dammit, How much would it cost to get a better CPU? (I dont want a SUPER good one, I just want to be able to play BF3 on mid graph and no lag....
(Btw, I do have 2 screens)
-
CPUs are generally quite cheap these days. You can get a Core 2 Quad for a good price. Not sure what country you're from, but if you're from the UK http://www.novatech.co.uk have been my main source for hardware and stuff. Brilliant.
-
General do you live in the south? I thought they where local to the south only but might be wrong, I use novatech as well, they ACTUALLY have quality prebuilds, or motherboard-bundles which are good for lazy people.
-
Hm, I live in Sweden by the way... I have another question, How do I know if a i actually can use a graphic card if I purchase one? And how do I know if it match the CPU?
-
To be honest the card you have isn't that old and if your not looking to run BF3 on medium-high settings then I recommend you just upgrade your CPU for an all-round performance boost but it depends as you may need to upgrade your mobo which then makes for an expensive upgrade.
You COULD try selling off your computer as replacement parts and then build a totally new one?
-
Frosty, My card isn't supposed to run BF3 that well, I'm sure that if i get a better one i will be able to use normal graphic and no lag, And i dont have enough cash to build a new one and i'm not gonna sell mine :P

why the FUCK would you get a 3 year old card with a budget like that
get either a 6870 or a 560, you do need a CPU upgrade badly however(you could get a phenom ii x4 955 and a 6870 which won't need a new motherboard for around 300$)

Hmm...So my CPU is really that crap that it cant run any better cards than the one I have? (And $300 is WAY over the top of my budget....)

it isn't absolutely terrible but I wouldn't call it good either
you could go for a 6870 and it probably wouldn't be bottlenecked
-
Yeah, get a new one, but stick to AMD. Do not get an Nvidia card.

...The fuck's wrong with the green corner?
-
Um is a ATI radeon HD 4250 good?
-
It never was. It was a very low end card when it was new and now? ;_;
-
4250 is horrible; take a look http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-HD-4250.29664.0.html (http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-HD-4250.29664.0.html)
Well, to compare cards, I love to use www.notebookcheck.net (http://www.notebookcheck.net). It's great.
-
so, if i get a 6870, MY lag will hopefully be gone? :O
-
By the way, Does it matter if its XFX radeon or HIS radeon?
-

That's the card you want.
And for a processor The athalon 620 is fine and won't bottleneck. It's not amazing or terrible.
-
sapphire is usually the way to go, HIS and XFX have shit support

well no, not really, 6870 will be bottlenecked by it, even if it's only slight, its not a bad CPU but's in no way "high end" or "amazing", if you can AFFORD a cpu upgrade it won't hurt and will only improve overall performance
-
True SMT. But he may need to upgrade his mobo if he wants anything near high end.
-
well not if he has enough power and uses the same socket, im presuming the 620 is AM3 socket as it's fairly new, so he shouldnt have any issues with any newer AMD cpu
-
oh shit. i mistook the 620 for the 630. yeah it's crpa.

oh shit. i mistook the 620 for the 630. yeah it's crpa.
the only difference between them is the 630 is faster by .2 ghz... they're the same

So, from what I understand, I should NOT get the 6870?, And I want to make this clear, I ONLY have 250 dollars, do I really need this graphic card to be able to play on medium settings with no lag? Cant I get a little bit cheaper one? ( I have no idea about this kind of stuff :>)
Oh, and I've heard that its good to have nivida now? Should I really have Radeon?
By the way, I read that the 6850 is another choice.....Its cheaper and doesn't change much in performance...Would it be a better choice?

Heres where i would place it. Take a look at these statistics when comparing ATI and Nividia cards.

Also rofl you got my hooked into getting a 560 for christmas
-
amd/nividia is really down to your preference, I've gone with Nvidia most of my live, but I love my current AMD 5770, but I'd still happily go back to a newer card like a Nvidia 560.
Also you SHOULDNT get the 6870 if you're going to stay on your current CPU, mainly 'cause it's going to limit the performance you get from your system, but if your upgrading your CPU there's no reason not to get a 6870, or another card, generaly as long as you have enough power you can't go wrong on a graphics card, as long as you're not buying a laptop card or cards designed for digital deisng (the ones which cost like $3000)
-
6850 if not planning on cpu upgrade, 6870 if you are
-
Radeon HD 5830's arent bad if you REALLY need a low budget card, it's not amazingly powerful but it's hardly a bad card
also: http://www.guru3d.com/ is a good site for card reviews, they go p indepth but sum it up simply too, they're generally not one sided about things
-
stop recommending old shit
-
feb 2010 for a low budget card is fine...
-
GTX 590. Dooo eeet
-

Are you sure that my CPU will be able to handle the 6850? if it will, I will probably buy it. (AND TO MAKE THIS CLEAR, I AM NOT BUYING A NEW CPU BECAUSE I CANT AFFORD IT!
-
Get 6870. Thats what I have, it runs BF3 on ultra with i5 2500k and 8gb ram.

They said that it will bottleneck my CPU, I think I'll go with the 6750

Ye, 6850, hehe. So, Uhm, i'll probably order it tomarrow, Lets hope it will work correctly :> Thanks for all the help and tips :D
-
I have a 6670 1GB GDDR5 and it can run games on either high or best graphics at 1920x1080 with what I have been playing. Not tried BF3 or Crysis with it so no idea on those settings. Still I like the card so I recommend it if you want something cheap-ish.

Nah, I have decided, its going to be a 6850

After a long discussion with my older brother we have decided that the best thing to do is to get these 2 parts:
Fractal Design Tesla 550W 80+
and
XFX Radeon HD6850 1024MB
This will work since I'm getting the Tesla :>
