Title: How to fix minges. (Stauta Supports.)
Post by: TorrentGamer ?Romney2012 on July 11, 2011, 11:36:50 PM
I had this thread up some time ago but it died out. I told Stauta one day on his 399 character about it and said for me to bring it back up and that he/she supports it. So here it is:

Most of the time it seems like 80% of minges are new people. On my old 303 character I got, "i am new can u help me?" WAY too much. So why not make us a 5-10 minute video you are required to watch when you first join? (Right after you pass that quiz.) It doesn't need to much fancy animation, maybe just a slideshow even! Just make it nice with maybe some voices. And tah-dah, you have a way that could help defeat the "new people" minges. If you think about it, the first time you played HL2RP ever you probbly minged around not knowing what to do. I did the first time I joined HL2RP.

REMEMBER, STAUTA SAID THAT HE/SHE +SUPPORT this!

i think that's a great idea!  a must.  i joined not too long ago (today :D) and had no idea what you were supposed to do or what there was to do or how to do anything.  and i can't lie.  when I joined this morning, i definitely minged, but now i know so much more and don't. ANYWAY. great idea, i love it.  a must for this server.

This could be implemented, however we have several ideas about what to do to fix new players.

Yes, but I think this is one that can take a big chunk out of our "new" minges.

Besides, I don't want to see, "Just take time and teach them." Because a video could do that and save RP time and turn others into good RPers.

Totally agree.  Oh and by the way, do you fellas know why I'm not seeing the server on the server list in-game after I was DCed?

Sorry Statua but YOU make a huge impact. You are a well known ADMIN on HL2RP. So this works out well.  :D

I love the idea, please implement it ASAP, and if people still minge, they don't have an excuse.  +Support

- support ( for now )

Well I can't support this for 2 reasons.

One: The minge or troll would just get up from his computer and do something else while the video runs.

Two: The minge could use there browser to watch or flame someone else. ( Even the ingame browser could do this as well ).

I would support it if you can come up with a way to do it so that have to watch it.

Maybe like a quiz or something.

Yeah you don't get what this is for. A good ammount of our minges/trolls are people that just don't want to do. And we can't just scout new people out because 90% of the time they have caused minge kaos or are banned. In other words its JUST helps the new people. Like I said, pretty sure all of us have came from DarkRP and have NO CLUE what to do.

Who in the right mind would connect to a server that forced you to watch 5 - 10 minutes of a video before playing? It's only a minority of people who join and have absolutely no idea what this is all about. A lot of new people would just get it within a small time frame. However, new people joining this kind of server is very rarely a majority; it only seems like it because you encounter them more frequently.

Point is, if I were forced to watch a video upon joining a server, I would just disconnect and never come back. I'm sure I speak for the majority when I say this.

Have you SEEN the minges at about 8:00PM! They clusterfuck a CP all day! It is worth a shot. Why do minges become minges? They don't know what to do or they just like getting banned. Either way this takes care of a good ammount of trolling for the people that do not know what to do. And I think, "HL2RP in 5 minutes." Is perfect.

I usually go on the server at 8 PM EST, and I don't really encounter them myself much. That's not my point though. The thing is, you're making generalizations and categorizing new people with minges. What is a mingebag, you ask? They're people who take pleasure in ruining and hindering the fun of others around. What is a new person, you ask? It's self explanatory - they're people who have never connected to a similar server like this, and have no clue what to do. Yes, many minges do happen to be new people, but that's a different story.

As you said, of course new people won't have a slight clue on what to do; well, my friend, that's where an admin comes in. It's called teaching and observational learning. Job done, and sooner or later, they'll start becoming familiar with the concept.

Don't make a majority suffer because of a minority.

I didn't support this to be forced. I meant this to be optional with like a skip button. That way players who already know what to do don't have to watch it.

I'm not really sure about this idea, it has it's pros and cons. And Stat, if there was a skip button a new player or minge would just most likely skip it.

Mingebags don't want to learn, just to be a mingebag. Therefore they shall be banned.

If a new player doesn't want to learn, then it sucks for them, and they shall eventually be banned for ignorance.

Or just take the time to teach new people. Nothing needs to be over complicated.

Yeah. Come administrate for a week and let me know what you think.

Not trying to sound obnoxious or anything, but I have admin'd at a community which used to have 20 - 30 people per day. It was a pain sometimes because we used to get waves of new people joining all the times, but all we did was teach, and if they refused to learn, then kick/ban. Yes, it was very tough and annoying at times, but the result in the long run is great; at least 90% of the new people that joined the server would be further interested and leave knowing the rules and street laws. Just to answer you, this went on much much longer than a week. There ya go.

The solution doesn't have to be so complicated, it's just simple, and that's all there is to it.

Well actually I agree with the video and if this is not made it's a shame. People need to understand that a wall of text on the sever is not going to be as effective as a video where you only need to watch. The general playerbase these days are kids still in school which makes them less intrested in getting a mouthfull of information as they join. I for one know this as I've admin'd before at a decent ammount of communitys, and they always had this issue, just today whilst helping a new member, he left as I was explaining how to talk in OOC.

If you simply make a video, make it optional to watch whilst joining the server and or place it on the forums  so adminstrators\players can refer a link to it thus gaining a new member and them signing up on the forums. Because those willing to learn and or are new will watch it. This will also add something unique to the community aswell as providing the information required. I place my hand up if people cannot be bothered and or assist with the making, because I guarentee this will work. +support and forgive spelling as I'm on my Ipod.

I agree, I just got banned for 12 hours for minging or something like that.  I don't even know what they mean!  Last thing I was doing was dragging a guy up the stairs of the UCH, and I accidently lose him.  I see the guy I was dragging with another civilian, ask if they're selling knives and BAM!  I'm banned for 12 hours.

Make the video, then make it a punishment.
First offense of minging, explain their error. Second offense, kick them and add a flag to them requiring them to watch the video upon rejoining.

And look, the video has to be enjoyable, like this:

So, you want to be a rebel?
*clip of guy running up to CP and punching him, then big red X and a BAAAAM sound effect*
then
*clip of guy /me'ing doing anti-combine graffiti in an alleyway

Not just a slideshow.

Neutral on this one, should be able to skip the video but upon clicking skip they should be warned that if they break any rules they will be banned.

Would help if you didn't call them minges, to start.
Refer to those who don't know any better as new players.
Those who deliberately mess around, call minges.

Something should be done, though, and fast, when I was on a day ago trying to report someone to an officer he had to shoot at people on the catwalk above the plaza every ten seconds! Also today theres like 5 people trying to mingesteal my rations!

What if you added some sort of guide to the "Directory" in the tab menu? at the moment all it seems to have is just CCA voice commands.

I doubt anyone would watch a video if they could skip it, maybe if you make it entertaining somehow then just a stupid lecture maybe it could work.

Minges are so annoying, yet if your a CCA, you have some action.
