MSI Afterburner. (http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm)

Pros:
100% free of charge. (No derp trail or unregistered bullshit.)
Records 1080p full HD (Depending on your own settings of course)
Absolutely 0 FPS drop and no lag at all. (You won't even notice it is running.)

Cons:
Difficult to set up
Audio usually derps around. Even though you can select 2 audio sources, it sometimes still only records 1
Files are just as big as Fraps, so expect about 100GB for 30 minutes of footage.

Though, I myself use Fraps for my Let's Plays. It works perfectly fine, and I don't mind the big files. I just delete them after I'm done editting the video.

or steer clear of shitty recording programs like msi afterburner and fraps because the file sizes of the videos are stupidly huge

use open broadcaster software, has file recording built into it like xsplit did and just like xsplit, records to a low file size while still maintaining really good quality and doesnt hit performance as bad as msi or fraps either]

by low file size, i mean a 23 min video that i recorded at one point came to about 300mb, whereas if i recorded with fraps or msi shitburner, itd be like 300gb

msi shitburner?
Have you even tried it before you jump to conclusions and call it shit?
Sure, it poops out HUGE files, but that is about the only issue. Like I said: You don't even notice it is recording, so you don't have the SLIGHTEST performance drop.

With Xsplit however, you are forced to watch a preview of whatever you record, which makes your PC lag like shit. (At least for me even though I run on 16gig of ram.)
IF you choose to use an open broadcast software, then please forget Xsplit and use FFsplit instead.
Works about exactly the same, but has the following cons that Xsplit does not have (I believe):

- 100% free. No trail or whatever, so no shitty limitations such as max 25fps (lol)
- Option to close preview window.
- Choose output file format. (FLV, MKV or MP4)

No one is recomending Xsplit, please read

Everyone - EVERYONE - for streaming or recording should now be using OBS www.obsproject.com

Omfg I fucking love you.
Tested OBS just now. Here are the results:

- No lag, FPS drops, or anything at all (Similar to MSI)
- Quality is just as good as Fraps, so far I know.
- 50 minutes of footage -> ONLY 1.6GB file size! (HOLY CRAP!)
- Can record both game sound and mic with separately adjustable volumes.
- Custom bind setup for different screens.

Wow, just an amazing program so far. Why didn't I know this earlier. :(

Uhh, Im silly. When you said it I thought you meant any 'open broadcast software' aka any software such as Xsplit or something. Didnt think of an actual program called that way.
