I'm sorry, that's a ridiculously stupid and general rule, we can't say something and then provide a link to support what we're saying? I don't get what the rule means, it either needs rewording or removing, we have rules covering not posting CG threads already, this rule seems rather stupid.

nobody follows that rule even admins because its a useless rule

I don't even know what it means? It can't surely mean "no links referencing anything at all"? If it means that that's ridiculous and as you said no one is following anyway, so it's obsolete, we can't be expected to abide by such a general rule that seems to say "don't post a link to anything related to what you're saying ever"

i think its trying to say referrals

This is a referral link which leads to Google: http://bit.ly/2V6CFi (http://bit.ly/2V6CFi)
There's really no reason to shorten URLs anyway because there is either a more 'informative' link with the full name of the target or the original link from whence it came. I personally don't trust referral links because I like to know where it leads to.
I guess it's on the rule list because of security issues but if somebody is dumb enough to click on an untrusted link then it falls on them.
edit: nvm, referral links are the "click here so i can get lockerz pointz omg desu~" bullshit that can be done just as easily over Steam.

What I think this rule means is exactly what tim said. Posting links that gives you stuff if people click on them.

That's not what a "reference link" is, so it needs to be reworded
