Title: How should I upgrade my pc?
Post by: Red Alexmander on January 25, 2013, 10:44:42 AM
Currently Running:
Processor: AMD Phenom II
GPU: RadeonHD 6670
Windows 7
22'' 1080p flat screen tv

Since I've switched to a 1080p flat screen tv, I've noticed my performance getting worse. What should I upgrade to get it back up?

I would really like to play Planet side 2 at <40fps. This is my main problem rite now.

Don't bother seeking FPS in Planetside 2, it isn't well optimized and people running on really high end machines are stumbling around 50 FPS

Depending on which Phenom II you have (could you get a specific model number? use Speccy or something) you may or may not need ot update that, I would say your graphics card is outdated, I'd recommend getting something like I have, an AMD 7850, it's fairly cheap now and still very powerful, also if you don't have 4GB of ram, aim to upgrade your RAM - 8 GB is decent amount and while you won't need it all right now I imagine soon we'll start needing around that much

so ya

i used to have a 6670 and you should definitely upgrade to something like the 7850 like smt said, which is what we both have (we are lovers xoxoxox jk) but ye get a 7850, preferably by MSI and it should have 2GB of video memory, not 1GB. 7850 is a fucking machine especially at overclocking where it can be overclocked to higher card's levels and still have cost you less than it wouldve for say a 7870 or a 7950 (to get it to be near a 7950 requires a lot of overclocking but ye) and i have no idea what phenom II cpu you have since you didnt specifically state but if its a decent one such as an X4 965 then you will be fine.

id also optionally recommend getting windows 8 due to the fact it has a bit more performance for gaming than windows 7 but its not gonna make that much of a difference, but still some performance improvement.

one last thing to do until you upgrade is to play your games windowed at 1280x720 and not full screen 1920x1080 as itll run a lot better with the 6670

I thought the gpu was outdated, just wanted to ask people to make sure.
I'll definitely check out the 7750.
The current motherboard is an MSI board, one of the smaller ones. I'm not home right now and not sure what model.
I can't check the cpu rite now but I'm pretty sure it's around 3.4-3.8ghz

EDIT: I looked it up, and the processor is the Black edition phenom ii quad-core - 3.4ghz

Assuming your CPU is a 965 it should be fine. You'd need a new mobo too if you wanted to upgrade it anyway and unless you've got a few hundred extra to blow on top of the card it isn't worth it.

Yep, unless you already have a AM3+ board (which i highly doubt) then don't bother upgrading the CPU, the Phenom II should work fine for another year or 2.
