Title: What is it about video games that make them fun?

I love video games but when i think about it, i am just pressing like 8 buttons and moving my thumbs around, why is that entertaining, i dont know, I think it has something to do on the screen or something, like to story or what not, i just don't know. I think it has something to do with how you can "Live" another life in the game doing something you would never do in real life. Cause i sure as hell wouldn't wanna be any of the fallout characters yet it is fun because we don't suffer and consenquences for our actions in games tat go into real life. That's my theroy.

Many reasons.
Games take you away from reality as you take role of a particular character, therefore becomes entertaining.
Games have puzzles and learning curves on how to play (sadly most of them lack of it now), therefore becomes entertaining.
Games allow you to control what you do, whatever you do, dictates on what happens, therefore becomes entertaining.
Games allows socialising, such as multiplayer, you compete your skill and wits against each other, therefore becomes entertaining.
Games provide a challenge for you, and serve as a distraction, as said above about it taking you away from reality, therefore becomes entertaining.

I doubt there's any other reason to play it, apart from of those reasons.
Fuck yeah, repeat the same ending line "Therefore becomes entertaining".

Being able to play them with endless opportunities and endless things to do.

Some people do it because they just enjoy play with freinds (if its a online game).
Some just do it so they can have a break from work and such.
Or just want to kill something and hear them cry after.

I love it cus i can sit at my home SCREAMING at some one and the would never know :D!!!!!!

I think that the thing about video games that makes them fun is either immersion or just a fun way to keep you entertained.  Other games have other reasons to be fun!
