Outlands is pretty much a settlement of citizen escapees from various cities trying to survive and govern themselves whilst getting attacked by Combine patrols (Rarely), antlions, headcrabs and all the other Xenian species. Just give it a try, it's great.

Did a little digging and found this, this is just various peoples views and opinions on it.

HL2RP Outlands is a survival RP based in the HL2 universe and corresponds directly with the city server as in, in Rp senses, they're both in the same world at the same time. Something big happens in the city, word can spread to the outlands. People from the outlands can travel back into the city (with authorizations) and word of the outlands can spread to the city.

Outlands is a different style of RP though. Instead of listening to combine telling you what to do or hanging out with a couple friends in the apartments, you're on your own or in a group doing whatever you please whilst trying to survive. You might have to go fetch some water, gather food or firewood, or even in some cases, hunt down dinner.

I personally prefer Outlands for the style of RP it is.

Just think of the citizens you meet along the way in HL2 while driving the airboat. Now imagine the live of those guys. You play one of them.

A land with no law or order, away from the cities.
A gift and a curse for the inhabitants mentally imo.

There is some form of law, but a lot of issues with outlands are going to be addressed when it comes up.

Instead of emphasizing day-to-day interactions with Civil Protection and apartments and rations, like in the city, Outlands has more of an open-world wilderness survival theme to it. Think of the atmosphere in Outlands is similar to that of Fallout 3, except without the whole nuclear wasteland bit.
