It really depends on whether you like the type of game or not. It's not the type of game you play to "win" or get the most items. You play it to be creative and have fun constructing buildings and monuments.

Watch some "let's play" videos on it. I suggest "X's" videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bh4EexJO4I&feature=plcp
His videos are a bit dated but Minecraft doesn't change much so the basic gameplay is the same.

It's up to you, basically. I, personally, have gotten well more than what I paid for (I bought it when it was in alpha and it cost about $10) and I will continue playing it for a long time.

It looks like "my kinda game" and I'll probably get it and a lot of my friends play.

Imo it got shitter the more updates that came out.
Its not the same anymore, used to be a casual sandbox with some survival in it, now its more like runescape in blocks. I gurss its just me that hates all this dumb enchanting/levels/food meter/ehatever. Its just lost the fun now. Beta was good for the most part, alpha was ownage.

I have to agree with this. I bought the game in late Alpha and I really enjoyed it. I put thousands of hours into the game by just building my base out of a muchroom shaped mountain, and the possibilities were almost endless.
But I have to agree with Caek. Updates brought you new stuff to do, but it also destroyed the fact of sandbox and 'Do whatever the fuck you want without consequences' and got more into the 'Do this or you don't survive' game.
It's true that it originally was planned to be a game for survival, but the sandbox really made it one of the best arcades I've ever played before.

Minecraft used to be way better at in/infdev stage, and even the online only creative one was better than what it is now, I hate what mojang has done with mc

If you like the survival stuff it's not bad, but Jeb seems to be trying to turn it into something it shouldn't be in my opinion

There are different gamemodes for different types of people. You like survival, go play Survival. You REALLY like survival, go play Hardcore, you like building, go play Creative.

The food thing doesn't really limit you, as using a bow, 64 arrows, and a couple potions of swiftness extended(really easy to make), i can get 192+ steaks in about 15minutes , which LAST FOR A LOOOONG TIME. Or you can use an Inventory Editor, to get you food, w/e, so there's no reason to be bitching about food. Also, hunger does not kill you, It only weakens you.

The game has done well for giving it the survival aspect, imagine GMod Stranded but in blocks and form your own terrain.

Otherwise the game was originally designed to be creative, just like GMod.

(Imo, they should have an option to have a "Old survival" gamemode, basically removing XP and food meters and returning the food back to instant health gain.)

Thats not even my point

my point is it used to be a sandbox game with some random mobs added in to make a little challenge, now its turned into an RPG with potions, levels, enchanting, even more monsters, food required

i bought it because it was an awesome sandbox game

Had good times, it sucks now. Wouldnt even pay the 10€ i did back then for it now.

Well, I played Minecraft in the Beta and it was actually pretty fun, so I played it a lot. Now when I play it I quit after like 5 minutes because it gets boring really easily, I guess its ok if you're new to the game 'cause you have a lot of ideas for building and you can be creative, but if you've played the game for ages, it gets boring.  :P

while it does get boring pretty quick you have to give yourself stuff to do other than mine, like adventure 'n shit

I play it and I actually like it. I'm a fan of RPG's and survival type gamemodes, so that's why I like it. I hated MC beta, as I hate playing just creative/building games(Besides GMod). In my opinion it's worth it, but if you don't like RPG, don't buy it.

Yesterday when my bro came in my room while I was playing Minecraft, I was showing him the newly added stuff. He was actually positive about it and said: "Oh cool, Minecraft finally became awesome."
Because it was Notches goal from even before he started on Minecraft that it would become a Sandbox RPG. And that is exactly what it is now.

So yeah, it really is a matter of opinion if Minecraft either became better or worse.

Minecraft really can't become worse because you can simply go into creative mode on peaceful difficulty and there are no monsters and you just build. No matter what Notch adds you can always pick and choose.

I thought it was pretty fun to play, you can build all sorts of stuff. If Singleplayer is boring then give Multiplayer a go because that is really fun!

Minecraft is a game where you have to find your own entertainment. Be that hunting monsters or exploring the wilderness, I'm you'll find something you like to do.

I'm keeping my hopes up for this game, I really am, and I hope they make it better soon, or at least make the price reasonable for the game play. Also, I really would've gotten it sooner, back then it was worth about 30 dollars as it was amazingly fun, but now it's worth as cheap as it was. Six. Freaking. Dollars.

You'll get lots of fun out of it, but eventually you'll hit the point where you can't stand to play it anymore. It gets very boring after you've done everything.

Multiplayer is really where it's at. If you find a decent community, you can spend hours of fun messing around and working on projects with friends. I found singleplayer getting really lonely after a few sessions.

I agree with Yankee.  Minecraft is a game where single player gets boring after a while!  Multiplayer is fun when you have a friend to play it with.

Minecraft is extremely worth it, one of the best games I've ever played.  If you get bored you download mods/play multiplayer.  If you think the game looks bad go get a texture pack.  If you wanna play half life 2 roleplay...go play Gmod.

Well, ofcourse it's worth it. I've bought minecraft two years ago, and I never really been bored of it. Maybe there's months where I stop playing for a while, but I get right back into it, which doesn't happen to me a lot since I get bored of games quickly. Minecraft is a game that could be highly modded, sort've like GMOD but way different. It's fun since you could make buildings, survive with friends (VERY FUN), and just screw around and blow up cities with TNT.
tl;dr It's an awesome game that you don't get bored of, worth the 30 bucks. GET IT!

When I compare MC and Garry's mod price, I cannot say MC is worth it.

I bought minecraft about two years ago,  back in indev.  I have spent countless hours on it since then and the 30$ is totally worth it.  However, after a while of constant play every day, it does get repetitive for me, so I take breaks for a few months usually.

This is a very good game for those who like survival and RPG-like playstyle. There are many features in the game that make it stand out. Just be ready to get irritated, because some of the enemies are a little overpowered and generally annoying. Like the Creepers for instance, they crawl up to you and explode. That is so annoying when you have many good items on you and if you have a map then you just lost something that may help with maybe the whole playthrough. Other than the enemies, though, Minecraft has many clever ways of crafting items and even NPC's you can trade and villages you can find and live in.

I can't say I enjoy the current version of Minecraft. I really liked it back in the 1.6 Beta. I played on an old community's server, with only about fifty people who played on it regularly. We had a few different factions, made cities, raided eachother, and had good times. I loved it back then. Now it's just a clusterfuck of who can get better enchantments and potions.
