« on: September 18, 2011, 12:26:01 PM »
So there is this server, it's mine and private. Me and my friend use it to play privatly, to achieve this we use Hamachi.
But now, it just doesn't work for some reason. It's like Hamachi isn't on (but it is)

Guides / Combine Civil Authority rank guidelines
« on: June 07, 2011, 06:58:20 AM »
This guide is entirely made by Hank from the now downed community, MGS, all credit goes to him.

NOTE:
These are guidelines only. Mostly it depends on your character. This is to give you a structure on how brainwashing and the likes will affect your character and his actions from the start. Use it as a guideline only.

It seems that a few folks are a little confused over what each rank exactly represents within the Universal Union and Combine Civil Authority. I'll cover each MPF rank and describe three things:
1. How that MPF should act towards others - Citizens, other MPF, etc.
2. How that MPF has been modified (mentally, physically) by the CCA.
3. How others should act towards the MPF unit.

Now, we'll begin at the very lowest rank, and work our way up.

Recruit (RCT)

Congratulations! You have just been accepted into the Combine Civil Authority. You have just been given minimal, basic training; you were fed your first real meal in years; and you have been given your signature suit and stunstick. Next thing you know you're out on the streets you've been walking down for most of your life, seeing the faces of the people you've seen every day... but things are a little different.

You might feel slightly empowered by your new found position in the Combine Civil Authority; however... you've only just been accepted, and you have not received any brainwashing. There have been no physical modifications to your mind or body as of yet, and you're just fresh off the streets. You see your old friends and you treat them nicely, perhaps even saying a word or two to them in passing. You might try to sneak them in to get an extra ration or two, and try your best to help out your fellow Citizens. After all, you were in their exact position only a few days prior. Even so, the Citizens don't seem to take you too seriously; they'll laugh at you behind your back whenever you try to act seriously; some will even try to violently oppose you - and sometimes even come out on top...

As always, things have changed. You are now mean't to take orders. While you might not agree with some of them, you are forced to follow them or otherwise suffer a harsh punishment. You look up to your superiors as though they were Gods - far above you and significantly more powerful. They will treat you like dirt - to many of them, you are no better than the Citizens; they will make you do the jobs nobody else wants to do, and perhaps even make you clean up after them. You hope to strive to be like them one day... but there is always that looming doubt in the back of your mind about whether or not what you're doing is right... maybe one day those looming thoughts will disappear.

Minor Ground Unit Rank 5 (05)

Well, look at you! You've finally been placed in a Division. You've been given more training and perhaps even been given your first lethal. You know enough in your division and of the MPF in general to get by on a daily basis, but you still harbour feelings for your old friends and former fellow Citizens. But, of course, you've always been given your first few tastes of brainwashing. Pre-programmed thoughts have been placed into your mind, causing some of your doubtful thoughts to disappear. You begin to feel that what you are doing is right, and really IS for the benefit of humanity!

But, of course, there is always the darker side. Perhaps at this point, you might have been forced to have taken your first life - if this is the case, you will feel shaken and uneasy. It's not simple to point your weapon at a living Citizen, one whom you would have seen as a brother mere weeks prior, then fire that weapon to quickly end his life. While you may take a few more during your time as an 05, the first one is always the worst. You still harbour those feelings for those you knew prior to your recruitment, but you get the slight feeling that they don't quite understand the Universal Union like you do...

Your new meals are being to take their toll; you feel stronger and more powerful. Your muscles begin to rebuild themselves and you feel better than you have in years. However, you're still not nearly as powerful as your new Divisional Leader. You look up to him or her as a leader - the perfect MPF unit in every way, where what they say is always carried out in an instant. He or she, and the other higher ranked units, might look down on you but you will always look up to them and follow and do as they say. You might even jokingly push around the new recruits once and awhile, but you know EXACTLY how that recruit feels. Citizens will begin to take a little more seriously, as obviously you're a little stronger than them, but some might still try to resist you, and a few will still try to fight back, but you'll come out on top at least half the time. You're not a push-over anymore.

Ground Unit Rank 4 (04)

You're start to work your way up there! After being given a speech and some more training, your Divisional Leader has granted you a promotion to 04. You know a little more than you did when you were an 05, and even more brain washing has caused you to understand even further what exactly the Universal Union is here for. Your friends don't understand it like you do, and those you don't know you couldn't care very much about. You might still feel for your friends from before your recruitment, but you get the feeling that they're just like all the others...

The Divisional Leader and higher ranked units might have more respect for you at this point, and might even assign you with harder missions and higher objectives. You might have taken a few lives at this point, and while it's still not easy, you begin to understand that it is, while harsh, unfortunately necessary in order for our civilized society to remain intact. You still feel uneasy each time you do it, but you have to follow your orders and you will still follow through each time. You begin to give some orders to recruits, mostly basic things and mostly to help them understand the on-goings of the CCA. You still treat them as though you were like them, but you begin to understand why you're ahead of them - you're just that tiny bit better.

Citizens will, unfortunately, still occasionally disrespect you and refuse to comply. This is sometimes solved with a quick swift hit with your signature stunstick, which might even have an engraving of your initials on it, at which point they fall back in line. Sometimes, they will fight back but you'll most often come out above them, with them on the ground. You have enough experience in firearms and weapons training to defend yourself... decently. You might still be considered a meat-shield or expendable in a firefight, but if given the chance you have enough experience to put yourself ahead of those below you. Citizens will talk about you behind your back as though you were a slight force to be reckoned with, and will most certainly second-guess themselves before engaging or opposing you. When they walk by you, Citizens avert their gaze from you and continue to walk on their way, attempting not to garner your attention - and most often, you won't be looking at them - that is, until they do something wrong...

Higher Ground Unit Rank 3 (03)

Look at you go! Somebody up there must really like you, because you've finally been granted the rank of 03 in your Division. Further training has allowed you the ability to start giving out a few orders to lower ranked units, and be able to take control in very minor situations. Even further brainwashing has enabled you to realize that all of your friends and fellow Citizens don't understand what the Combine Civil Authority is doing for everyone, and what the Universal Union is doing for the whole of humanity. At this point, you might have received a few physical enhancements - increased stamina and strength; slightly better endurance to pain, which gives you that edge over your adversaries. With each disrespectful act, you begin to realize that the Citizens aren't worth the higher-ups time, so you will gladly take your time to deal with a disrespectful Citizen for them. You still might harbor a few feelings for old friends, you begin to see the others Citizens as disrespectful free-loaders. At this point, you might have even encountered a Vortigaunt or two. These stinky animals are mean't to be kept in their place. While you might have seen a few as a Citizen, you begin to understand why the Universal Union keeps them for their own use - they're excellent labour!

Higher-ranked units begin to take you even more seriously, sometimes requesting you to directly assist them or accompany them on patrol or sweeps. They can entrust you with some sensitive information or to perform a specific duty. The Divisional Leader might even see you as a potential for a Non-Ground unit some day, and you look up to him or her as though you were wishing to one day be in their position. You strive to prove yourself to be a commander and an excellent unit. You might even go out of your way to ensure a Citizen learns their lesson the first time - and that that Citizen doesn't ever disrespect you again. Of course, you've taken your fair share of lives, and while the others don't seem to have much effect on you, the killing of a friend will still leave a tinge of guilt in your heart.

Citizens will begin to fear you, few will question you, and even fewer will oppose you. Some will attempt to resist, and 9 out of 10 times you will have them beaten and on the ground in only a few seconds. You have re-grown all of your muscle and all these excellent meals have kept you in tip-top shape, giving you a major edge over the malnourished Citizens; and they realize this! Many will talk behind your back about how fearsome you can be, but sometimes there will be the one who just doesn't seem to understand...

Upper Ground Unit Rank 2 (02)
Rising through the ranks, there is clearly much potential in you - and it shows. Further brainwashing and enhancements have enabled you to fully understand the Combine Civil Authority, their duties, and the potential and cause of the Universal Union. Physical enhancements have further increased your physical abilities - you can jump higher, run faster, hit harder. You look at the Citizens as though they are only there because they choose to be. Looking down on the lower ranked units, you begin to understand fully the concept of commanding and taking charge. Given the chance, you are able to take control of some operations and give some orders. Most commonly, they will be followed, but perhaps the odd RCT might think themselves a little... better than you. A swift hit or a rough word will usually but them in place, even if it is you that is the one that does it.

Higher-ranked units will begin to trust you more and more, giving you more objectives and even allowing and ordering you to take charge of a situation from time to time. You might even be left in charge of important information or objects, and being given special 'privileges' in some cases will sometimes be a common occur to you. But there are still those higher-ups, specifically a Sectoral Commander, who will not respond to you. Sometimes you will be even ordered to beat a malcompliant Citizen into unconsciousness and swiftly re-educate the cheeky Citizen. Those Vortigaunts can be considered even worse - aliens who can hardly even speak a proper language who seem to think they have a place in your city. Beating them is not a problem for you, and you might even go out of your way to do so.

You begin to treat the Citizens a little more harshly - pushing them out of the way if you have too and hitting them harder than normal. Your friends are not very much higher than the other Citizens and you treat them as such - they don't understand any of it like you do. Taking lives is a rather common thing for you, and the normal disobedient Citizen doesn't phase you very much when you put a bullet through his skull. You still feel it rather unnecessary thing at times, but you will most often view it as something you are required to do. Some will resist or attempt to escape, but almost always they will do as you say or fail a their resisting. If in a fight, your far superior abilities always put you over the edge of any malnourished Citizen - easily beating them too the ground or quickly subduing them. They will always re-think what they are doing when they begin resisting you. Sometimes, just simply beating them is the easy answer...

Major Ground Unit Rank 1 (01)
You're finally at a spot where you begin to feel that you can make it all the way to Divisional Leader. Even further brain-washing and enhancements have left you with a complete understanding and an almost complete un-questioning loyalty to the Universal Union. Every order given to you is just another step towards the unification of your race and the next step on the path of evolution. Looking down on the Citizens, you begin to see their presence as a burden, and you begin to question why some are allowed to walk about as they do. Simply hitting a Citizen is not a problem anymore, and you will even pacify them without a second thought. Shooting a Citizen, is, of course, not a completely easy thing to do, but you do what must be done. You show no mercy, and you attempt to show no pain. You want to prove to your higher-ups that you are capable of taking a command position.

The few higher-ranked units that yourself will begin taking you seriously, and will almost always call upon you first for a mission or to accompany them. They respect your presence and start taking things you say and do seriously. Lower-ranked units than yourself begin taking you even more seriously, and the orders you give out are not questioned by anybody lower than an 03. You are commonly given the task of leading a patrol or sweep of a sector in absence of a higher-ranked unit, and are commonly assigned to command a group of lower-ranked units. Occasionally, a higher-rank will request you to train a recruit or 05 in the ways of your division or of the MPF in general. You follow every order to the letter, and you always attempt to prove yourself worthy of all respect you are given!

Citizens are scared of you. They will stay several feet away from you when walking by you, and never make eye contact until you talk to them directly. They hardly come up to you asking questions anymore, and never question your orders, and will follow what you say. The very few that resist are quickly put down by your hand and stunstick as you strike them and push them against the wall or ground. You no longer take their rebellious behavior lightly, and might even put a bullet in one's head if they cause you far too much trouble. Many of them talk about you in fear, and hope to not meet you in the streets as many of them have the stunstick marks from your weapon of their backs...

Non-Ground Unit Officer (OfC)
Congratulations! You have finally reached the rank you've been looking up to since you signed up. You're in the position to begin dishing out orders, and taking control of many situations. You have undergone multiple enhancements and brainwashing procedures that have induced complete loyalty in the Combine Civil Authority and the Universal Union. Your physical abilities now far exceed those you once had when you first signed up, and you are easily able to beat any Citizen to the ground quickly. You feel no guilt when shooting a Citizen for continuously disobeying you or a lower-ranked unit and have no problems severely beating a Citizen until they bleed from their wounds.

Higher-ranked units entrust you with taking command when they are off-duty. It is your responsibility to ensure that units are following orders properly and, if they are not, re-educate the unit as required. Perhaps even beating an 04 or lower is required if they continue to be persistent in disobeying orders. Lower-ranked units take you very seriously, and the recruits might even fear your stunstick as some of them will feel burns for many days from your re-education.

Citizens fear you and will walk on the street if they have to to avoid walking by or near you. They will not stand close to you, and they will always do as you say. You are feared among the many Citizens and they speak of their fear by talking of you as though you were something spawned from fire and brimstone.  If any Citizen resist, you are quick to put them down, beat them, or even put a bullet through their legs to prevent them attempting to run again. No Citizen dares to fight you, as you tower over them with your massive arms and powerful legs. You can easily out-run any that attempt to escape you... and the ones that do, you have very few problems with aiming your weapon directly at the back of their heads...

Elite Protection Unit (EpU)

You are the Elite Protection Unit. You now carry a new mask, a new uniform, and the ability do a lot of things you never thought you could do. You begin barking out orders to units, and keeping things in control - ensuring nothing goes wrong. You have received augmentations far beyond that of any other unit below you. Your hair is gone, your skin is pale and your eyes lack most colour. The physical enhancements are obvious to everyone around you - your muslces are beyond the size of that of any normal human, and you jump higher, run faster, and hit harder than ever before. Heck, given the chance you could probably break a brick with your biceps alone! Even with your physical prowess, not everything can be done by you alone as you quickly take command of situations. Anything that sounds suspicious to you, you question to that unit and ensure he or she does it properly. You do not have a problem with beating a malcompliant or otherwise disobedient unit - it is only for the benefit of the Universal Union.

The Divisional Leader entrusts you with running things while he or she is absent, and you have no problems with doing so. The lower-ranked units look up to out of fear and respect. Nobody disobeys your orders and what orders you give out are followed through to the absolute. You entrust your OfCs with doing their jobs, and they hardly let you down. You have no problems re-educating a lower unit, and will even sometimes put a bullet through an RCTs head if he gets in your way. Nobody is to stand in the way of you and your objective.

Citizens do not walk past you. The walk on the opposite side of the street. They never look at you, for fear of retribution - and you will sometimes stare at them to see how they react, at which point you always beat them until they're unconscious. You have no problem shooting a Citizen in the leg for simply turning around and walking a way from you. Only the foolish ones are the ones who question you or disobey you. There is complete fear from all Citizens in regards to you - they dare not speak of you, for fear that you would overhear them, kick in their door, and beat every one of them. All Citizens have felt your stunstick's spark at least once in their lifetime... and many more have felt your bullets in their bodies.

Divisional Leader (DvL)
You are above all. All units listen to you, and follow your orders quickly and to the very letter. You are used to dealing with those who attempt to suck up to you, and you might even hit them for doing so. Your physical augmentations allow you to knock someone out in only a matter of a few hits from your stunstick, which you hardly use. You almost always have your MP7 in your hands, and you are not afraid to use it. There is no question in your mind about the CCA or the Universal Union. Everything you do is to benefit the Universal Union and their cause - and you are not afraid to sacrifice units to that end.

Lower-ranked units fear and respect you constantly. No order is disobeyed, and every order is followed through completely, quickly, and without question. Your presence in an area signifies that everything is under the control of the Combine Civil Authority, and every unit is inspired as such. De-servicing units is not a problem for you, as you believe that every disobeyed order is another strike against humanity as a whole, and every unit must be punished as such. You never question yourself, and nobody questions you. Units are afraid to look at you for free that you will become angry - and every word spoken by you is taken by lower units as though they were speaking to the greatest man alive - or even God Himself.

Citizens do not look, speak, walk, stand, or even breathe near you. They will stay inside and close their blinds as you walk by. No one questions you, as the second they do they find themselves on the floor, with a bullet hole through their skull. You feel no remorse in an amputation, and you feel no regret even if you have to slaughter a dozen Citizens. No one dares speak of you, as when they do it is not uncommon that those Citizens end up on a wall, and are quickly shot. There is no questioning or fighting back for the Citizens, as any attempt is ended swiftly by a single, or in some cases multiple, bullet to the skull. You are the ultimate in the Metropolice Force.
------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope this 'little' bit of information was helpful to someone, and I hope that you can take this information and be able to expand your CCA characters. It is important that you try to play the character properly, as it seriously helps enhance roleplay for everyone on the server.

Keep in mind, this isn't like a rule you have to follow - it's a guide to help you understand how you should act in your given rank, then build your character from that - sort of like this gives it a skeleton, then you build everything else :)

If you have any suggestions or complaints, don't be afraid to let me know. I'd be more than happy to make modifications to this list :)

Thank you for reading (if you did read it all the way through :P)
________________

I am OF COURSE aware that some of these ranks are not in effect on our HL2RP server, but by removing some sections I would also be removing some great text and guidelines.

Text:
So, i was just accepted into Combine Civil Authority, i equipped my suit and gear, and went to the lobby of the Nexus. After this i had no idea what to do. A nice guy, i believe his digits were 713, helped me around. He teached me how to patrol and some other stuff. And i also met another recruit, a real asshole - 192.
He acted like a damn 02, and now he's promoted to APEX, wich sucks for me...
Also, my image of 713 changed, when he detained a citizen for his eyes togheter with 192. I tried to save him but they just wouldn't listen. Maybe i'm going to become like that once, but for now... i'm going to try keeping things peaceful the... peaceful way.

Anyways, i got agility training, jumping and running is really hard with this suit on. I was about to get breaching training with.. some guy - I don't remember his digits, but it was aborted (crash), wich sucks. I'm trying to get all the training i can.
Now i'm not sure if this log even gets saved, or if i can find it again. These damn consoles are worse then the labyrint in the agility training course, the only thing of CCA equipment i really understand is the radio and the stunstick, wich i'd prefer to avoid using. But i must admit - Staring at citizens and imidiatly seeing them walk away can really be amusing. But knowing that probaly every single citizen hates me really brings my mood down sometimes... I know how it is to see a recruit trough a citizens eyes... "That traitor..."

Guides / Play to lose!
« on: April 24, 2011, 04:16:45 PM »
What do you mean by play to lose (PTL)?
PTL means doing /me'd fights and so on without rolls, you do not /roll to decide who wins, this is unrealistic and stupid.

How do you play to lose?
Let's use a scenario, two different ones, one with and one without PTL.

- Scenario one - No PTL

** CCA.C18.UNIFORM-DvL.324 runs into the alley.
** Jackson 'Dynamite' Boerson sees the DvL, and sneaks up on him from behind.
** CCA.C18.UNIFORM-DvL.324 notices the citizen.
** Jackson 'Dynamite' Boerson attempts to hit the DvL's face with a plank, knocking him out.

** Jackson 'Dynamite' Boerson has rolled 78 out of 100.
** CCA.C18.UNIFORM-DvL.324 has rolled 23 out of 100

** CCA.C18.UNIFORM-DvL.324 gets hit, and falls down, unconscious.

- Scenario two - PTL

** CCA.C18.UNIFORM-DvL.324 runs into the alley.
** Jackson 'Dynamite' Boerson sees the DvL, and sneaks up on him from behind.
** CCA.C18.UNIFORM-DvL.324 notices the citizen.
** Jackson 'Dynamite' Boerson attempts to hit the DvL's face with a plank, knocking him out.
** CCA.C18.UNIFORM-DvL.324 attempts to doge, but gets hit.
** CCA.C18.UNIFORM-DvL.324 steps backwards after getting hit, shaking his head.
** CCA.C18.UNIFORM-DvL.324 goes forwards, pulling his stunstick out
** Jackson 'Dynamite' Boerson drops his plank, and runs.

** CCA.C18.UNIFORM-DvL.324 radios in...

__

As you can see in scenario two, the DvL did not have to fall down unconscious, he choose to get hit but becuse of his armor, he could also choose to avoid getting knocked out cold. In scenario one however, the DvL was suddenly hit, and had to roll. He lost, and had to get knocked unconscious, this did not lead to very much interesting roleplay as in scenario two.
[/size]

How should you use PTL?
When you play to lose, the roleplay will become much more interesting and enjoyable, however - there are some factors to be taken into consideration

1) You can not be invincible - play to lose means you choose to lose. You do a /me about what happens to you but be fair!
2) take all everything into consideration - enviroment, armor etc... i'll make a small list below.
3) Choose an interesting action! - This is not obligatory, but this will of course make things more fun, even tough it's not in your favor. Letting the citizen run off will result in a chase, possibly alarms and stuff if he's important enough. If you force him to stay, you will simply hit him and detain... you just rejected some fun roleplay.

Some factors
These factors are to be taken into consideration:
The enviroment - Are you in a trapped in a corner, is it raining, is it slippery?
The enemy - What is the enemy carrying? Armor, augmentation, steel mask (stop punching CPs in the face!) Is it several enemies, do they carry weapons? (Remember to look closely on the enemy players description!)
Your state - Do you eat well, do you drink well, are you hungry, are you strong, are you fast, did you expect an attack, are you scared of the enemy, did something happend recently that may cause negative effects on you?
Common sense and other factors - All other factors and common sense must be taken into consideration to, and remember. If you willingly choose to lose the fight or a me, then you are an awesome-sauce person who is awesome and the other player thinks you are awesome becuse you are awesome. Refusing to lose the fight or the /me will make you look like an asshole and if the other player has a clear advantage he may contact an admin or demand /roll to be used... becuse you are an asshole.

Is this official?
No, this is not the "new" or "official" system, but it can and should be used.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Civil Protection - FearRP
« on: April 22, 2011, 01:53:45 PM »

Civil Protection
This is a summary of the Civil Protection equipment, behaviour and the reason why you should really fear them.

The gas mask
It's a fucking gas mask, SCARY! The eyes are dark and unforgiving, the mask almost looks like it's ment to be terrifying.

The stunstick
The stunstick is a baton made of steel/metal, the end is a metal/steel circle full of electric wires, you can see it sparkling. Getting hit is extremely painful and it would be hard to move. Getting hit once while running will probaly make your legs fail. if you don't fear it then you should be superman or defect.

Their behaviour
You (probaly) have seen citizens getting beaten for coughing near a CP or slipping his can of delicious water, they beat people unconscious and drag them to the detainment where they are fed their own toes.

The vocoder
Listen to their voices, a dark cruel voice - For all you know, that's how their voice is. All the units have the same voice. They are all the same... evil and mercyless.

The other equipment
The CPs have stunsticks(above), pistols, SMGs, radios, armor and so on. You will need some heavy shit to take one down alone.

I was thinking of adding Overwatch, but i realized that if you even look at one for to long, you have no understanding for fearRP or no earlier experience with them IC.

This is a low-effort post that is
supposed to increase fear rp towards
 CPs.
