I think we can all agree that the mountains are getting old. Why I didnt do this in the first place I dont know but whatever. Anyway lets figure out what setting we will move to. I'll just list a whole bunch and you can choose. There will be 2 votes. One over the next week to get some numbers, you can choose any many places as you like, and another featuring the top three most voted where you can only vote once.
If you have any places you'd like to see that aren't on this list, feel free to post here with a reference image about it.
The Places
Coast
This would be similar to the coast you see in HL2RP with the high cliffs and coastal towns.
Ruined City
Basically, sort of like Outercanals but more city-like. The streets would also be flooded in knee high waters.
Jungle
Thick dense jungle with hidden cliffs, running riverss, and lots of vegetation.
Better Mountains
More rocky mountains with less open space and more rock walls to cut visibility.
-
I think either coast or the ruined city, both of those sound pretty good.
-
Tough suggestions...I like Ruined city and Jungle....can we vote twice?!
Edit: Also, if you do make the ruined, flooded city like you said in the other map how its knee height in most places but deeper in others, will there be part of buildings that will be submerged entirely and even untouched parts of buildings/the map that are only accessible via diving and swimming there? I think that could hold nice passive of swimming or when trying to swim away in a rush from OTA or whatever, the fearRP of panicking and drowning or something. Also, I think it would be amazing it you did C45 ruins. Plus it would be much less work for you. Make it so the Nexus is destroyed by accessible. All you'd have to do is ask Oz for C45 and edit it up. Plus seeing as its destroyed, you can break down the wall boundaries of the city so people are not confined solely to the City itself but can go on the outskirts of the walls and stuff where there can be nigger rigged huts and stuff. Idk.
-
Ruined City, but make sure there's a lot of places that /aren't/ underwater, because all AquaRP would be boring right quick
-
Coast-line; swimming, somehow manipulation of the Leeches, which could add some RP. Just a nice area to see.
Jungle; there would be a least some form of wild-life. And a whole slew f added RP possibilities.
Dem votes 4 roover
-
Jungle, the wildlife would be nice to see and would be the best enviroment for Gabriel, just also seems as a cool place to be.
The others I don't really know. I like the idea of coast and City.
-
I don't why but i hate coast sites. It would be nice to have Ruined city combinations though. So something like Jungle City ruins or something like that.
-
Ruined city, night setting, intermitent lights here and there and some safe places with some light present. Would be awesome
-
Ruined City 45 would be interesting and legitimate for traveling to ;P Does anyone have any more ideas? I was considering arctic and badlands but they wouldn't really be suitable for RP.
-
I like the flooded, ruined city. Reminds me of the Brewery District from Dishonored. If we do do that, then I feel like applying for an ichthyosaur char.
-
I have the VMF ready to be edited by Statua but it's going to need some changes before it can be turned into a bunch of ruins. It's currently at the limit for texinfos and brushes.

Texinfo is easy. Brushes, not so much. But I think I will remove the entire basement of the nexus and cave that in so that should remove a good 1000 or so brushes. Thanks Oz :P
-
i don't think much of the nexus should be left considering the singularity core self-destructed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqQyT4uetvw
this but on a smaller scale
-
Yes I played HL2, EP1, and EP2 a number of times. I'll probably cave in the basement. But did the nexus blow or did the citadel blow? They're both 2 different places in C45.
-
Ruined city and jungle would be the two best options. I voted ruined city, though. I feel like it'll give more of a feeling matching the story.
-

nexus wouldn't have had a singularity core so citadel
-
Why not a ruined city IN the jungle? Like the ruins of an ancient Mayan, Aztec, Incan, whatever civilization. That'd be sick.
-
Here's my idea. A southern European city that's been obviously destroyed by Union forces, and has been left vacant for four plus years. Over that period of time, the city has been flooded and overgrown with an extreme amount of vegetation. tHat'd combine a ruined city with a kind of 'jungle' feel, kind of my interpretation of what Redrum was hinting at.

I love that idea.

Quite literally the best of both worlds right here.

While it's not European, very close to what you're getting at.

Oh, a side note here.
It can't be City 45 unless you like getting PK's from cancer every 5 minutes.
-
Oh, a side note here.
It can't be City 45 unless you like getting PK's from cancer every 5 minutes.
Raged already addressed this; it wasn't nuclear, the radiation wouldn't be above what normal back ground is.

I was informed that it was nuclear, but oh well. It's not like the buildings wouldn't of been annihilated, anyways - seeing as the whole of City 45 was built around the Nexus.

..... The City was a City BEFORE the combine, and it wasn't the nexus that went boom, it was the citadel.
The city would be in ruins, but not atomized.
-
Okay, so, let's just picture City 45. Say it managed to survive the fighting, which it clearly did unlike City 17 in Half-Life 2. The Citadel doesn't have an original explosion, so we can skip over that as well. I'm sure you all remember the citadel's final explosion in the end of EP1, and seeing what the city looks like from a distance at the very beginning of EP2, I'm pretty sure there'd be VERY little of City 45, if any of it left, especially what we considered our map due to how close it was to the Citadel itself. Aside from that, why would people go to a burnt out, barely standing Union city when you could go to one of the many remaining cities of the world? They're probably in much better shape than a city that just had a singularity core implode inside of it.
By the way, if anyone has ever seen the Sound of Thunder movie, the way that the city begins to appear throughout the progression of the storyline is kind of what I pictured the ruined city looking like, except with more beatup buildings and rubble sites inside of full structures.

I still have City 8 VMFs.

I still have City 8 VMFs.
yes plz
-
(http://www.abload.de/img/crysis3screenshotcity3skat.png)
Yes, KillmePlz, we must do this.
-
City 8 can probably be turned into a ruined jungle a hell of a lot more easier than City 45.
-

In my opinion city8 is already a pile of shit anyway.
-
City 8 v1 isn't the best looking and v2 is sitting on the brush limit at 99.8%.
I messaged Statua before I got off last night and he said that he might decide to do it from scratch. If that is the case then I can still help with it.
-
Not to mention that City 17 and City 8 are divided up by the entirety of Russia... It is in Japan(At least in our canon).
-
Japan to Romania. Bit of a trek.
-
Scratchbuilt might be a good idea then. One problem though. The combine are using water from the planet, lowering the sea level. You notice it in coast and canal maps. How did the city get flooded? I was thinking something along the lines of a major hydro dam break which i can put it the skybox ^.^
-
I hardly think it matters. But if you use that reason, wouldn't the Union act fast to seal that up and suck the water back up?
-

Not if the city isnt combine inhabited. I was planning on making it 7 hour war torn and abandoned
-
The Union doesn't have the resources to completely drain water at immense speeds, as the sea level is still reasonably present in HL2. I could see them leaving a lower elevated city that's no longer inhabitaed flooded while they do other things. I mean, I'd think that people would be less likely to inhabit an area that's flooded a ton over a city that's just open ruins. Kind of a straetigic move as well as a logistical one as a reason as to why it's filled with water.
-
yes
discuss ideas for atmosphere/mood/features that could be implemented into a map based on a ruined/overgrown city setting
-
Atomsphere? Well, there are lots really.
Gloomy, Bleak, Desolate. Basically the "creepy" ones.
I have a picture that MAY fit the look of what we, or just me have been thinking of.
As you can see, it mostly fits the style but less destoryed I'd think since it's not Combine in-habited but i'd suggest something like Fallout style? That also fits.
Here are some more. (Some are from diffrent games <3)

I'd also like to see some feedback on these photos. :P

I like all the overgrown photos. Thats what we'll really be shooting for. They're inspirational. As for the other ruined city photos, meh. Skyscrapers cannot be tipped over without falling, they're not designed to withstand that. They might be able to tilt a max of 5 degrees before the frame gives way. Its designed to hold support for vertical weight bearing and some horizontal sway. Not horizontal weight bearing.
More overgrown city pictures would be fantastic. I plan on making the flooded part a sort of swamp so if you can find anything like that, I love you long time!
I have'nt discussed this with Oz but the atmosphere I want to shoot for is green and 'nature infested' on the outside and desolate on the inside (inside of buildings)
-
Not really overgrown.

Just look up Crysis 3 City in Google Images, that should be some ideas for you. The photos above are the ones I found that look nice and seem like a nice enivroment.

Hng. Insipration overload. Thanks Dixon!

Glad to help with the new map! :D

Ok well since there were only 4 options and the ruined city won by majority, I think its safe to say we'll be going tere. Locked.
