Head:
None

Torso:
Purple Hoodie (or) Brown Leather Jacket
Green or White Undershirt

Jeans, lightly ripped here and there
Black combat pants

Character information:
A volatile character, made at first as one of the biggest villians in outlands (Succesfully PKing 3 people in the process). Harley has gone from downright evil to reformed good, to an extent, with the ever-present danger of becoming dangerous again, though the character is concious of her old ways it attempts to steer clear of any conversation that involves it.

Character background:
Harley Morrison was orphaned from a very young age, growing up in one of the strangest places for a child to be raised, the cathedrals of Paris, specifically Notre-dame. This means that Harley is somewhat religious (to an extent of course) and that she has a strangely developed sense of morals, which has been changed and twisted more than once. Harley learned from a very young age that sometimes, despite the idea of "turn the other cheek" you simply have to defend yourself, learning by her own means (and against the advise of any of the women in the cathedral) to use a blade proficiently. Sick and tired of the lifestyle that the nuns attempted to push onto her, after she became 18 years old she fled to another country, specifically the UK, where she divagated for a long time. It was there where she met who would become her husband later in life, Elias Valerian. They shared their beliefs of doing things for the greater good, as well as their interest in learning to both defend themselves and others. She met him before of his unfortunate dis-banding of the police force, process where she almost joined him but was unable to. Harley was in fact one of Eli's greatests helps to becoming "The Stalker", aiding him in training as well in gathering information.
After the 7 hour war, Eli and Harley were one of the few people left in Scotland that actually opposed the Combine's occupation, and through rebel work they attempted to make more people join their cause. They somehow managed to get close onto reclaiming a city, Glasgow, but unfortunately the combine had a different plan for it. If they were unable to control Glasgow, the combine would simply destroy the city. Thing which they did with extreme prejudice, basically "Glassing" the entire city, and leaving Harley and Eli as some of the few survivors of the destruction. This event made Harley go insane with guilt, which led to her dissapearing for years. What happened during those years is only rumored at best between people who know Harley and those who "suffered" from her, but the basic gist that people can get is that she became an evil character, with an almost obsessive need to "make sure only the strongest survived". It was not long untill Eli found her again, where he attempted (And succeded) in capturing her and finding a way to bring her back to sanity.
Nowadays, Harley attempts to be usefull to people again, ammending for her guilty concience, her more "insane" side is still deep within her, which she attempts to keep away by keeping away from violence and anything that could remotely trigger it again.

Mental good and/or bad skills:

Good
- Caring personality (When sane)
- Meticulous, always training and improving her skills
- Fierce defender of those she cares about (When sane AND insane)

Bad
- Split personality, makes her unpredictable at best
- Guilty concience makes her worry a bit too much sometimes
- When insane her actions are unpredictable, only someone who is close to her can bring her back, or someone with a proverbial silver tongue.

Physical good and/or bad skills:

Good
- More agile than other people
- Excellent handling of melee weapons, specifically knives, hatchets and even syringes.

Bad
- Her scarring is a bit worrysome to some people
- Has to constantly fiddle with otherwise lethal weaponry, IE: You'l always find her playing with a knife or doing 'Tricks' with a hatchet.

Character look-a-like image:
Spoiler for Hiden:

I apologize in advance for the bitter memories that pic will bring to Starcraft fans xD But yeah, i figure with her hair in a pony-tail she'd look a lot like Nova.

IC Chat / Mini-Story. The prayer.
« on: November 06, 2012, 07:57:32 AM »
Glasgow - A month before the 7 hour war.

Eli stands over one of the city's rooftops, the night's dark veil covering him from sight, holding his old scarecrow mask on his left hand. He appears to be looking down on a specific vehicle. One that's being escorted by 3 motorbikes. It appears to be the vehicle of an old arms-dealer, someone who had ,to say the least, under-estimated the Stalker's resolve.

He closes his eyes for a moment, his right hand going to a crucifix that's hanging losely from his neck, his fingers rubbing the silver cross lightly as he talks, seemingly praying to a certain patron of the christian religion.

"Lady of Monserrat... I ask for your help again..."

He speaks to the patron of crimes, the patron of outlaws and murderers as he looks down again at the vehicle, which stops just at the entrance of the building he's standing on

"Once again i find myself about to commit horrible deeds... Horrible deeds for the greater good. I cannot ask for forgiveness, but i must ask for your favour...
Give my feet the swiftness they need to dodge their attacks
Give my hands the accuracy to strike at their hearts
Give my head the clarity to commit these deeds...
Give me the skill to become their worst nightmare.
Tonight, make me unstoppable."

With that final phrase, he slips the mask on, strapping it tightly onto him. He walks towards the fire escape, walking over the bodies of the unconcious guards he took out just to get on the roof, preparing a small trap for anyone unfortunate enough to believe they can escape through it. He then slides down one of the building's pipes, opening a window on the side of the building and sneaking inside. The arms dealer's worst nightmare had entered the building.

IC Chat / CHYR1AV - Darius Character profile.
« on: November 05, 2012, 11:06:24 PM »
CHYR1AV - Darius character profile

Character's full name:
Mark 1 Applicated Artificial Intelligence System CHYR1AV. Designated human name: Darius.

Gender/sex:
None. AI has selected a male presence for it's holographic programming, but it can if it so desires change it at any time

Physical description IC'ly:
PDA: The PDA that houses Darius is similar in size to an Ipad mini, using a special touchpad to allow for fast and non-problematic typing for the user, as well as Darius' own self recognition programs to understand what the user needs. It's grey and made with several different materials that allow for a sturdier shell, sacrificing looks for functionality and safety for both the user and the AI.

Hologram: The Hologram version of Darius is made to look like a young black man, with relatively long hair that reaches his shoulders and a relatively athletic build. The hologram itself changes the dimensions at which it presents itself depending on the situation and power-supply it currently has. Whenever he is able to use a real height display (only available through an actual hologram dedicated display at military bases or the like) He'd be 5 foot 8, not particularly tall or small to accomodate for all users.

Hair color:
A dark toned red.

Eye color:
A striking teal colour, with blue circuitry around the iris which signals his robotic nature.

Face details:
Small glowing teal coloured lines, these are data lines that course through his entire body

Hair design (short cutted, ponytail, etc):
Long, reaching his shoulders in lenght

Approximate age:
Officially created 7 years before the war, but his mentality is more approachable to that of a 30 year old.

Country originated from:
It has never been specificied where the location he was originally created in was, but the team that created him consisted of several different people, all with different nationalities. The main developer, Dr. Krauz was German however.

Current location:
With Joanna in the Outlands.

Accent:
British

Clothing and/or protective armour :
Head:
None.

Torso:
A long sleeve white shirt

Pants:
Black cargo pants, he does not however wear shoes.

Character information:
A supporting character for Joanna, with an interesting story and a personality in it's own right, Darius works more as a moral compass to Joanna in some cases, as well as giving her aid to reaching her objectives. Though he has no defined morals, he never intends harm to human beings. (There is little he could to towards such goal regardless, as he's confined to the PDA device unless connected by an external party.)

Character background:
Darius was created by Dr Krauz during his extensive research into replicating humans via cybernetic mediums, being the Doctor's greatest achievement, Darius was treated almost like a son by the doctor. His personality was designed not to follow simple parameters or to be constrained by rules etched onto it's coding, but to act like any other human, question it's surroundings as well as it's role and other such activities. This was a risky move, as Darius could have easily gone "bad" at any moment, however it was the Doctor's firm belief that he hadn't just created a program but a new form of life, and that it would have been immoral to constrain it to what HE thought was "right".
Through rather strange circumstances he ended up in the hands of gypsies after the war, who were unable to use him since they were illiterate when it came to anything that had to do with technology. It was only untill he was given by the gypsies to Joanna Sinbow that he became usefull to humans once again.

Mental good and/or bad skills:

Good
- Natural curiosity for any kind of knowledge
- Strong moral sense, impossible to break.

Bad
- Inability to really harm anyone, psychologically or otherwise

Physical good and/or bad skills:

Good
- Sturdy shell allows the PDA to take damage wtihout much concern
- Darius is made to look appealing to people, making it easy for him to have conversation with anyone he meets

Bad
- He is unable to defend himself in the PDA.
- He is confined to whoever can carry him.

Character look-a-like image:
Spoiler for Hiden:

Also, i haven't been able to find a good pic, but think of JC Denton's Black version in the original deus ex.

Character fitting music and/or song:
Spoiler for Hiden:
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM7bHBXAnuI" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM7bHBXAnuI</a>

Weaponry:
None.
Equipment:
He is equipment in itself. Including the extra crap that came with him in the old casing.
Known authorized items:
He IS an authorized item in itself.

EDIT: I have updated the profile to add the proper music for Darius. That's all. I might expand on this profile later today.

IC Chat / Joanna 'Tragedy' Sinbow's Character Profile
« on: November 04, 2012, 02:09:54 AM »
Joanna 'Tragedy' Sinbow's character profile

Character's full name:
Joanna Valerian Sinbow (She goes by Sinbow for respect to her mother)

Gender/sex:
Female

Physical description IC'ly:
A woman of 5 foot 10 height, relatively athletic build with extensive burns over the left side of her body, giving her what some people would call the "two-face" look.

Hair color:
Intense red colour

Eye color:
Blue

Face details:
Half of her face is burnt due to a vortigaunt attack, she covers it up with her hair as to not shock people too badly with it, though she does not particularly care for it.

Hair design (short cutted, ponytail, etc):
Medium lenght hair, part of it covering the left side of her face, including her left (dead) eye.

Approximate age:
29

Country originated from:
Scotland. Born and raised. Chilean heritage from her father's side of the family

Current location:
The Outlands, somewhere in Romania

Accent:
Scottish accent.

Clothing and/or protective armour :

Head:
None. At best she wears a cloak once in a while to cover her head when it's raining.

Torso:
Dark brown leather jacket. (Optional, not usually worn)
Black baggy buttoned shirt (Usually with her sleeves rolled up)
White T-shirt.

Pants:
Jeans. (reinforced with knee-capers scavenged from an old military base, offers very little extra protection)
Belt with pockets for minor things she finds

Character information:

A character that is in a constant slope, always attempting to improve herself both as a person and as an aid for people. She has always attempted to be neutral to the people she meets, though that does not always bode well for her or for those she holds close. Overall a character that though has some serious problems, she attempts to keep them to herself, only seeking help when it's absolutely necesary.

Character background:
Born to Liam and Maria Valerian even after Liam and Maria were told they were unable to have children naturally, Joanna is what most doctors would call a "bloody miracle". Jo was a blessing to Liam and Maria, who had already adopted a son beforehand, though scared at first that the two would not get along well, Joanna's brother, Elias, took a special kind of protector role with her, teaching her about the world, helping her with minor things when they were little, and overall being the typical "good big brother" as some would say. It got to the point that when they got older, they both attempted to go into the same line of work, law enforcement. However, Eli left the force for "personal reasons" and Joanna, feeling that staying in the force would have been like betraying his brother, sought a more "normal" line of work. though her life before the war was overall "stable" (Apart from knowing of her brother's "second life" and sometimes aiding him in it) Joanna always had a strong personality, taking no bullshit from people in any shape or form. She had this trait from a very young age, getting herself a rap-sheet even when she was only 19 for "Assaulting someone in the middle of the street", the reality of the situation was that the man was coming onto her, and rather than wait fruitlessly for police to come while the man tried to man-handle her, she took a bottle and broke it over his head. After the war, Joanna saw herself slowly understanding her brother's old "motives" and real impact on people, going as far as trying to become more like him, helping people she found outside the city's limits through any means necesary. It was during this time that she found herself with an old friend, Harley Morrison, though she found her during the peak of her insanity. The story becomes fuzzy at this point at best, though it's only known for certain that Harley made Joanna go through terrible things as she tried to reason with her and bring her back to reality, this was both during their times in the canals, and their reunion in the Ineu Pass, where Harley finally faked her death, only to be brought back from her insanity by Eli.
Joanna's last big event in her life was her personal involvement with Nick 'Pyro' Sandborn, with whom she married and formed a group in the outlands called the Stronghold. It was this way that Joanna tried to reach something closer to what her brother had done as "Stalker", slowly bringing a semblance of order into the Outlands. This however did not last, as Pyro unfortunately went through changes that disbanded the Stronghold and ended with their separation and subsequent death. Joanna is still scarred by these events, though she has slowly begun to recover through the help of her brother and the now cured from her insanity Harley.

Mental good and/or bad skills:

Good
- She is skeptical, always taking the 'Devils advocate' role in some cases to try and see a problem through every possible point of view
- She preffers neutrality, meaning that she will always help people no matter what their alliegance is now.
- She is currently in a "Re-working" process, meaning she is in constant attempt to better herself and help to keep people alive out there, keeping things in check.
Bad
- Her neutrality means she may sometimes help evil characters with little care as to the consequence
- The re-working she is doing of herself means it's unsure where she'll end up. She could end up killing herself just as easily as she could try re-instating the Stronghold in outlands.
- She holds no alliegance, making where she'll be and how much she'll actually help someone unpredictable at best.

Physical good and/or bad skills:

Good
- She's a redhead. Everyone likes Redheads :3
- She's athletic, meaning her movements are more agile and fluid than others
- Her smaller frame allows her easier movement through certain spots
- Much alike her brother, she has a "Sleight of hand", allowing her to do quick movements with her hands with ease.
Bad
- Her smaller frame and athletic shape means she has less strenght overall.
- Though her "sleight of hand" allows her to do things like tying things up, using instruments or reload weapons faster, it also means that it takes her practice to do these things, and one slip-up can mess up the entire movement in one go
- Her body being burnt on the entire left side means that her looks are scary to some people, making establishing new contacts difficult in some cases
- Her left eye is dead due to the burning.

Character look-a-like image:
Spoiler for Hiden:

Joanna's original role-model, Joanna Dark

The sprite i made of Joanna from a few months ago.

Character fitting music and/or song:
Spoiler for Hiden:
Finding one song to fit Joanna is difficult, impossible even due to her ever-changing mood. Sometimes she's cheerfull and even positivistic about the future, other times she's depressed as all hell but attempts to keep it bottled up in her as well as she can. I can however, see this song applying to her at all times, the Carrington Institute theme. The song is never too depressing or too cheerfull, instead hitting a middle spot where you could hear this during the worst or the best outcome and you'd still feel good knowing it's there with you, much alike Joanna, she'll accompany the good and the bad, wether it's by helping you survive and pull through it, or by inevitably putting a bullet through your head if it reaches that point.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8yWfw1msDA" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8yWfw1msDA</a>

Weaponry:
- A glock 18 gifted to her by Skyler Rematon.
- Two hidden blade systems gifted to her by Elias Valerian.
- Her bare hands (Sin city reference, bitches.)
Equipment:
- A PDA containing the AI of "Darius"
- A medical Satchel
- Radio (Obviously enough)
- Very light set of extra-clothing, just in case.

Known authorized items:
- The PDA and Darius himself.
- Medium to low medical knowledge due to learning ICLY from Dallas Marston.
- Some CQC combat experience, with ability to improve over it. (IC once again, due to this character being one of the old characters from the Canals)

Spoiler for Administration Note/Rules by Statua:
Elions is directly in charge of current weather, flood status, time, etc. Under these circumstances:
-Anything that happens will not result in a PK or PI
-The state of Ineu must be the same as it was before the HDD crash (ie, dont blow up the cottage)
-Nobody shal gain or lose items unless authroised. IC or OOC.

A storm rages on in the outlands. It is the middle of the night, yet the lights inside the Inn are all turned on, the generator working at it's full capacity as it's noise keeps part of the inn from being completely quiet. Inside, two figures seem to be using a Radio, a young fellow who seems to be barely in his 20's, and a man around his 30's.

I repeat... To anyone out there in the storm. We're expecting a flood to ocurr any moment now, if you're still out there, please, come to Beles town. The Inn is located up a hill, you will be safe and dry. We will keep our doors open to any refugees

The kid puts the Radio's speaker down, sighing as he presses the "Repeat message" button in the Radio. He looks at the man to his side, who has his eyes covered in reflecting glasses

That's the last live message i can send for now... Hopefully someone catches onto it da- I mean... Eli...

Allright... You did good Will, don't worry.

Eli pats the boy on the back, he knows the amnesia suffering kid still thinks of him as a father, though he can't help but feel a bit odd after he almost called him that just now. He looks out onto the raging storm outside

Hopefully someone got the message... In the best of cases, we might just have a bit of a reunion down here in an hour or two.

Eli and Will keep things running for the moment in the Inn, hoping that someone, anyone, heard the message and directs themselves to the Inn. The flood will most likely overcome the valley in less than an hour... The doors remain open, as the dimly lit building keeps itself running in the shadowy night. Expectant of old friends and enemies of this simple and yet key structure. The Inn is almost untouched, preserved in the time that people, human and vortigaunt alike, have taken away from it.

Welcome back to the Outlands.

OOC:
Spoiler for Hiden:
Oh yes. I went there. Since the Outlands server is currently offline for an undetermined ammount of time. I have now created this thread so that we ALL may be able to keep on roleplaying without the need of the server being up. This is only temporary, and no battles will hopefully ocurr here. All things are still subject to the normal CG rules, other than that. You can interact with other characters, or advance your own story here. Enjoy people, and welcome back to the outlands.

IC Chat / Eli Valerian's Character Profile.
« on: October 24, 2012, 01:12:49 AM »
Since some people seem to be posting these around to give a little insight on their characters, i might as well, given that i do enjoy giving exposition like an idiot after all.

Eli 'Stalker' Valerian character profile

Character's full name:
Elias 'The Stalker' Valerian Sinbow
Gender/sex:
Male
Citizen Identification Number:
None was ever assigned to him. He escaped to the outer rims of the cities before he could be identified or assigned one.
Physical description IC'ly:
A 6 foot tall man, with an incredibly pale skin complexion, making him look akin to a corpse to some. He has a somewhat muscular build thanks to learning how to scavenge and "not be a picky ass about what constitutes food". Due to the process that was used to revive him, his eyes as well as any scars he currently has glow a rather bright green, though the glow's brightness seems to fluctuate depending on mood as well as time of day. (Due to the fact this is more than strange, he does whatever he can to keep it hidden)

Hair color:
Deep Black
Eye color:
Originally a dull green, currently a glowing green color akin to vort-essence sparks
Face marks (i.e. scratches, bruises, scars):
Small scarring spread around his face from different combat situations without his protective mask.
Facial hair:
Normally seen with a 5 o' clock shadow, rarely seen with an actual beard that's relatively full
Hair design (short cutted, ponytail, etc):
Messy, to say the least. Medium lenght at best but he never seems to trim or mind much "where" his hair goes.

Approximate age:
Estimated 30's
Country originated from:
French by birth, Scottish/Chilean by nationality. His father was of latin decent despite the roots of his name, and his mother was born and raised in scotland.
Current location:
The outlands, somewhere in romania.
Accent:
Unidentified mix due to his travels in outlands and his own rather disperse heritage.

Clothing and/or protective armour and markings (bruises, scratches, etc) on the limbs:
Head:
A long trimmed black hat, Optional.
Torso:
Long black coat.
Buttoned shirt, he has managed to maintain a few differently coloured but somewhat tattered shirts
Tie. Usually black and in bad condition.
Sleeveless vest. Pin-striped and usually dirty.
Pants:
Jeans when he's not wearing the vest.
Black suit pants for whenever he IS wearing the vest.

Character information:
A constantly evolving character that sits in the "Neutral good" range of the spectrum, Eli Valerian is known to be... Strange, to say the least. Being one of the few characters to have been revived in any way after death with a proper auth, as well as the first character to use a hidden blade with the proper mechanism seen on Assasin's creed. Eli's a character with depth, and despite being described many times as "overpowered", has flaws that have simply been covered well through time. Originally intended as an evil character, he ended up evolving into more of a "vigilante" character, akin to comic characters like Batman in his moral system as many have compared him to before.

Character background:
The adopted son of Liam and Maria Valerian, Eli was a strange character from the very beginning of his life. Never anti-social but always critical of people getting away with things. It did not take him long after finishing school to pursue a carreer in police work. However, the corruption he witnessed every day as well as the lack of actual means for policemen in the UK to work against criminals efficiently in some cases led him to leave the force, getting his record erasen in the process due to pissing off more than one "important" character. This was not uncommon in young recruits, but Eli took a different turn into it, having a much more determined will than the usual man. It took him months to ideate a way to work against what he felt was an injustice against normal, innocent people, not to mention years training in different ways to become good in close quarters and sneaking. His obsessive devotion turned him into "Stalker", a persona he created to protect his adopted family as well as anyone who sided with his ideals. Creating a mask with random textiles and a 'Scarecrow' mold he bought from a costume shop during hallowen, he started picking off people who he deemed "dangerous to society". His methods were always brutal, to say the least, though they refined as he worked his way up from simple crooks and corner drug dealers to bigger, more important targets.
The process took years, but by the end of it, Stalker was as vilified by people as he was aclaimed. From one part the fact he did not seem to care for human life as he simply killed off these individuals, and from the other the fact that thanks to him crime was slowly dissapearing, if not becoming a fumbling mess of wannabe thugs instead of the organized criminal syndicates that once habitated the city and it's surrounding towns.
Needless to say, the fact that he kept his identity secret helped him survive the original invasion and posterior "purge" of anyone dangerous to the occupation, though still marked as a dangerous individual, Eli has become more open about who he really is, as he says in his own words "To help people survive this i can't do it as some sort of boogeyman that hides in the shadows, i need to be human. Just as i've always been."
He died once in outlands, though he was revived by the aide of a vortigaunt tribe. This however left him with a 'condition', so to speak. He is infused with vort-essence, something completely new to humans and vortigaunts alike, and it's current consequences are unknown, apart from the strange glow that emits from his eyes (At first glance it would appear to affect his blood as well).
Though his moral compass has changed, if not refined itself once he realised the true consequences of killing indiscrimatedly, the shadow of the things he did to criminals, both of high and low calibers, lingers in his concience, wondering if he was truly helping, or if he had just become another criminal, justifying his actions with a biased view on reality.

Mental good and/or bad skills:

Good
- Always on the 'Good' side of things. Though his moral compass is a bit deviated, he always looks for the greater good.
- To the few who have helped him, he's loyal to the death. If you've not betrayed him in the past or prooven yourself to him he'll stand by you no matter what.
- Newfound value of human life makes him a 'Non-lethal' tactician, while a lot of bones may be broken, there is little death caused by him now.

Bad
- His value of human life can make him keep people alive that would honestly be better off dead.
- His loyalty can make him biased at times, though he is known to stay away from such things when he knows he won't act rationally.
- His obsession with "justice" can make him ditch rules and established ideals for the sake of "Doing what is right"

Physical good and/or bad skills:

Good
- His muscular build makes it easy for him to put strenght where it's needed, wether it's helping with carrying objects or using his fists and CQC tactics on someone.
- An eerie sense of stealth and mobility. Eli is not super-naturaly agile, but his ability to improvise and to keep his motions fluid has made him more than a 'worry' to certain people.
- Years of practice and experience against other fighters has made him develop a "Sleight of hand", making it easy for him to use melee weaponry or learning new hand to hand skills.
- The fact that his 'revival' has caused him to have such ghastly looks means he has the fear advantage on people, if and when he needs to appear as a fearsome individual in any way.
- Thanks to the vort-essence that affects him, his recovery and endurance rate is higher than normal, though it's unsure to anyone wether this is a good or a bad thing.

Bad
- His adept-ness to anything close quarters based has caused him to become increasingly inept with firearms. For example, if a normal individual can use an assault rifle and hit someone accurately to 700 yards, Eli can at best hit at 400 with scarce accuracy. This means that the only weapons he can effectively use are pistols, crossbows, and his signature flaregun, which have a short range and lack the added finesse of heavier weapons.
- His looks can be intimidating to some people. Specially due to his glowing eyes and corpse-like tone of skin. To the gullible and young he would easily fit the "zombie" stereotype. Making it hard for him to establish proper contact with people who do not know of his condition.
- His condition with vort-essence is unstable to say the least. While it manifests itself in a passive, if not good way for the moment, the actual consequences of it are unknown. As he could easily fall ill thanks to it, or even suffer a sudden death, basically leaving him in a "schrodinger's cat" situation. There is no way to find out untill it's too late to do anything about it

IC Chat / The Safehouse's tape recordings
« on: October 23, 2012, 05:28:04 PM »
Loud tapping noises are heard as Stalker seems to test the tape recorder

"Testing... Testing... Is this thing even working? *sighs* Been forever since i used one of these... "

The man seems to settle down on a chair of some sort as he prepares to record, groaning as if recovering from some substantial wounds

"Harley convinced me that keeping track of what goes on out here will be usefull later on... Though frankly i feel a bit insecure leaving trails like these... Either way. things have been quiet out here in the outlands, a bit too quiet frankly for the last couple of weeks. People have become somewhat dispersed after the little skirmish between the crazies and the sirens, and it's understandable really... Even i hesitated about staying here after that mishap. But I can't just give up like that... Besides the fact this seems to be the safest place for me and Harley to stay at right now"

It sounds as if he picked up some paper, reminiscing for a moment as he continues to record

"It's been almost a month already since Arkham tried to divide and kill us. He just... Appeared out of nowhere, we didn't even know about him being out here before he tried killing three people, one succesfully, precisely because he wanted revenge on us... And that made me think. Just how many people out there are alive that are still looking for us?."

The paper is audibly put down as the man sighs again, pensive for a moment

"I guess Sandborn was right... The past eventually catches up to you no matter what you do. I changed my ways but that's not eliminated the destruction me and Harley left behind years ago... Serves us right for trying to take justice into our hands in such a violent way i suppose... All i know is whatever happens, i won't let anything harm anyone out here... Human, Vortigaunt or Combine."

There's a quick pause in the recording, someone talking to the man from the other side of the room

"Don't worry i'm just finishing up here!- Eh... Sorry... Harley's asking for my assitance. Anyhow. She and i have stayed in the safehouse for now, keeping a steady help for newcomers as well as old refugees. Matthew's been travelling for a while already, but i doubt he'll be away for much longer... Joanna's been lending us some sporadical medical help as well, though i can't help but feel something's been bothering her... Still, things have been kept running well for the most part. We'll just have to see what the inmediate future has in store for us... Stalker checking out."

The tape recorder is set down, and the audio finally ceases.

So, since the outlands server is down i figured i'd ocuppy my time with something else. I ended up making these wallpapers with a bit of a cinematic feeling to them using key characters of outlands. I might make more if people feel i left someone important out (which i most likely did) or even make wallpapers with different themes. Anyhow, Enjoy! Low resolution just to check them out in the forum, and high res to put 'em on your desktop  ;)

Authorization(s):
- A prototype, PDA like device, containing some general but not entirely specific information about mankind as well as a simple (one colour) hologram projector
- An AI housed inside the previously mentioned prototype device, which will be a separate character in it's own right.

Name: Joanna 'Tragedy' Sinbow
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Affiliation: None

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.

"Project's software is installed, Doc." The intern talked to Dr. Krauz as they both worked on the small PDA like device in the table, connected to a computer which was finalizing the last checkups on the device, making sure all the internal components were working correctly and that temperatures were under control
"Allright... Conditions could hardly be more ideal, Mr Faust, i think it's finally time to test this AI." The doctor smiled, they had been working on this project for almost 8 years already, an AI that would not only work on a smart device but that would have it's own personality, making it being able to make judgements, relate to the user, and have life of it's own. The (Technically) first synthetic being.  They fired up the device as the screen showed the running processes on the custom OS they built, having no issues to starting up as it chimed
"CHYR1AV - SYSTEMS ONLINE. RUNNING SYSTEMS CHECKUP.... COMPLETE."

"Good.. Mr Faust, what does the performance look like hardware wise?"
"Everything's in order so far doc. Temperatures are a bit lower than we expected but that's nothing to worry about"
The doctor nodded as he looked at the device's screen, already lit up and with a simple, 'glowy' cloud of green smoke displaying, this was the abstract representation of the AI itself "Allright, let's start with the hologram's check then." The device was prototypical in most of it's measures, both with the AI and with a new holographic display to make the information easily visible by more than one subject, as well as make it easier for the AI to "Socialize" with people.

Using two small but powerfull lights, the device projected an image, slowly 'creating' the figure of a man. It however had no defined face or figure, as it was the first time firing itself up. This was the 'avatar' of the AI, a more relatable image for people to identify it by, that would show either on the screen or on the holographic display.

The doctor smiled lightlymas the hologram lighted up "Good, let's do a quick set of questions to make sure everything's in order... What's your serial code, boy?" he adressed the AI in a friendly manner as he kept check of the system perfomance.
"CHYR1AV, sir." the AI responded in a relatively soft voice as the doctor asked "... Will that be my permanent name sir?" The AI almost inmediately showed the signs of it's personality with this strange question.
"Well, we can find you a proper and more traditional name later, but for now we need to make sure you're working fine" The AI nodded, strangely accepting of it's role as the doctor worked on his terminal "And please, don't call me sir. I may have made you but i'm not that formal" The doctor joked lightly on this, something that given the situation was rather weird if not unique in it's context.

During the next few days, Dr Krauz and Intern Faust worked on the internal parts of the AI, while making sure it stayed online as well as interacting with it, during these times the AI was given complete freedom by the doctor to 'investigate' humans and reality, having a connection to the internet already established in it as well as being able to use a simple IM and Voice chat system to talk to other people involved in the project. It's human likeness was remarkable to people, but more so it's curiosity, and strange optimism despite knowing about mankind's best and worst times. During this time the AI picked up on images for the avatar that it "liked", it's appearance changing from time to time but remaining male, as it identified itself after some time, as well as picking a name for itself, Darius.

It's learning was aided by it taking in and saving most of the information it deemed important online, having internal backups of it as well as relying on double-checking it again every now and then.

Unfortunately, the AI's progress was put to a halt when the 7 hour war erupted. Mankind saw itself going into a full stop when it came to freedom and advancing technology. The project, though it was never publicized, was never hidden from the public either, which meant that if Krauz wanted to hide Darius from the combine, he'd have to act quickly.

He needed to make them believe that the AI was no longer viable in case they did want to peek into the matter, so the doctor set to create false records with an earlier and much basic AI, faking 'failed' procedures as well as claiming that the AI was destroyed. These spanned for a few months, managing to fool the Combine for a while, but the doctor felt like Darius was no longer safe with him, and had to take a more drastic measure.

Grabbing Darius' device, he quickly turned it on to talk to him one last time.
"Doctor, how can i help?" Darius answered in a normal tone, unaware of what was really going on
"Darius. We're going to have to relocate you... It's the only way these monsters won't get to you"
"Wh-What?" He was taken aback by the idea of being relocated, the lab was the only place he had ever been in, and going outside of it was a venture he didn't feel prepared to do yet
"Don't worry. I'll make sure you stay safe. I promise" The doctor gave him a warm smile, trying to calm him down.
They said goodbye to each other, believing the separation would be temporal as the doctor finally shut the device down.

Hiding Darius inside a special case, he gave it to one of the few contacts he had that was not connected to any scientific organization, making it at least less dangerous for him to be caught by the combine forces, which had already begun their settling in to earth and it's cities.

The doctor's contact got on a train headed to Romania, a country where the organization that Doctor Krauz worked for had a private lab, meant only for secret military and health related contracts. There he would be able to hide Darius and continue his development at least for a little longer, or so he would have if the train had reached it's destination.

The combine, under the belief that a major target was in the train that the doctor's contact was in, had set up a bomb in the train's route. Right on the stabilizing parts of the bridge itself.

Once the train's first cart was on top, the bomb went off and cause the entire train to collapse down onto the canal the bridge helped keep it away from. Most people on the train died from the kinetic strenght of the blow, some died from debris hitting them. The doctor's contact however, managed to survive, but in his dash to find a way out of the collapsed vehicle, he left the case that contained Darius behind, hidden in the rubble of the train, forgotten in a random place of Romania that would soon be known as the Outer rim of the Outlands.

Years passed by, with a medium sized group of gypsies finding the train. They figured that with the conditions that the world was in now, that they were no longer allowed in "civilization", if you could call it as such. They used the woods around them, making tarps and ghillie covers to make the train appear completely abandoned, using the fuel compartments as a way to hide in plain sight the smoke from the fires they used to heat themselves during winter and rainy days. The leader of the group, Marcus, found during one of their many searches through the Train's destroyed compartments the suitcase that carried Darius, though seeing the device as a simple PDA, he stashed it away rather than tinker with it, as he despised technology.

It was not long before Joanna was to find the improvised town on the destroyed remains of the train. The gypsies were not versed in medicine the way that Joanna was, and she prooved to be an incredible aid to them, not only by curing their ailments but teaching them how to mend minor wounds and treat certain kinds of food, spending a couple of days with them, but improving their life, and thus their survival, tremendously. It was at this point that Marcus asked to meet her personally

"The help you have given us, Miss Sinbow... Is something that i cannot even begin to repay you." The man humbly talked to her as he took her hand, kissing it as a gesture of appreciation
"W-Well... Thanks, but i'm just doing my job, Mister uh..." "Marcus. Please, Just call me Marcus." He smiled at her as he let her hand go, looking at her and her equipment for a moment "Hmm. There is one thing i have however that you could definately get much more use of than me, or any one of my people will. If you could just wait for a second..."
He turned around and went into his personal chambers for a moment, getting back outside with a black metal suitcase, he put it on one of the compartments several tables and presented it to her, opening it up and showing the device inside, as well as the cables and other related gizmos. "I found this little... Treasure, ages ago. But i'm afraid that i have no use for such technologies, let alone anyone of my children and brothers... Please, feel free to take it with you, it is the least we can do to thank you."

Joanna sighed, looking at the PDA like device, figuring he was right, and that at the very least she could hand it to someone else if she found no use for it. She took the case, thanked Marcus and promised to return to the camp every once in a while to check up on them, as well as provide them with whatever medical assitance they needed.

It was that way that Darius came into the hands of a completely unaware Joanna Sinbow, who walked back with the sentient AI back to the main 'Village' of the outlands, unaware of what was laying for her in the future thanks to this little addition to her 'equipment'.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?
Perks
- Access to a general, but at the same time limited base of knowledge of mankind in general. Such as processes for certain products or simple historical facts.
- Ability to work easier with computer systems thanks to connecting the Device, and thus the AI, to the system in question.
- A 'partner' so to speak.

Defects
- The maintenance the PDA requires means the character will require the aid of someone who is actually versed in electronics to work with it
- Since Joanna is not entirely familiar with high tech stuff, she will not be able to use the device to it's full lenght, If not require the aid of someone with more technological experience to do so
- The database inside the PDA is encrypted, meaning not all information is available, and thus the character's current access is limited at best (OOC this would translate to being able to use it to 'find' some information but no in-depth instructions/knowledge unless it was cracked by someone with a higher technological skill)
- The AI, Darius, can become a bit of a nuisance in some cases, as well as be difficult to relate to for other characters.
- Having a high piece of technology, The character would be in the eye of anyone that could be remotely interested in technology, knowledge, or power.

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
Obviously to create more interesting RP, but mainly because i feel like Joanna has never had any actual 'particular' things about her character other than being "that redhead with the burned face that 'may' heal you up". She needs to have something that actually throws a bit of "Weird" into the mix, something that is genuinely interesting and allows her character and the ones around her to move forward.

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))
Nope.

Which server does this apply for?
Outlands

Extra Notes (optional):
As you can see, i put a lot of defects for this idea, for obvious reasons. It's risky all around.

Guides / Character Archetypes. A base for anyone to use
« on: September 05, 2012, 07:14:33 PM »
Hello there, ladies and gentelmen!

It's come to my attention that a lot of people lately seem to have issues creating themselves a proper character personality. And a lot of people do not seem to realise that sometimes you have to try and keep such things consistent. SO i'm going to give you a quick run through of something that i believe will help you understand how a character /should/ be built up a little better.

CHARACTER ARCH-TYPES.

Now i KNOW what you're thinking... "BUT ELIONS, THAT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING FROM A SILLY MMO". And i'd agree, it does sound silly, but it's very usefull to keep this in mind when you're developing your character, or when you're writing up a character that you want to play out in a certain way, so hear me out!.

An archetype is what you'd reffer to normally when speaking of any fictional character who has a set stereotype or generic style. In other words, Archetypes are the base of a character. There exist as many archetypes as definitions for a person, but i'll go through some that are regular to the good old Outlands server, you can feel free to apply any of these to other RP servers or even your own stories. You can normally use one or more archetypes for a character, as they are bases to work on, simply put, they're guides.

Let's keep in mind that archetypes come in several variations, and i'm only covering a few (even then, there are several names for archetypes, and technically there exist as many archetypes as there are imaginable scenarios for characters)

THE PROTECTOR ARCHETYPE:

A character that is protective of the people around him or of the land in itself. Usually this kind of character has some sort of weaponry or expertise in combat as well as the will to defend who or what he believes in. You could qualify guards, ex-soldiers, or simply characters who feel like they /have/ to protect people because it's their duty, whatever the cost. You can qualify characters such as Matthew Henderson or Joseph Connors in here. Where they work towards protecting people out in the city 45 outskirts as they work their way through the place.

THE ROGUE ARCHETYPE:

A type of character that is usually seen as a wild card. This character archetype refers to anyone who has no real affiliation and has no real care for any of the people who surround them, usually working for themselves or if they do help someone, simply because they were in their way and not any particular /need/ to do it. This kind of character is usually a loner, though their identities are never really a mystery. Sometimes the rogue archetype can do things that can be morally wrong in the general eye, causing some serious conflict with other such archetypes like the protector. Characters like 'Beans' and 'Beef' (hehe, the food duo) would fit into this category (Though they also fit the Insane archetype, we'll get to that in a bit). Where they honestly do not truly care for other people, and their actions can be depicted as both good and bad.

THE MYSTERY ARCHETYPE:

A type of character that is literally a total mystery to people. This character can be seen either as good or bad by the rest and usually works towards a goal that may or may not be shared to other people. The mystery archetype usually is a character that /does not/ reveal their true name, or goes by a nickname that everyone calls them for. This kind of character /usually/ has a skil set that revolves around stealth or long range attacks, and is no stranger to hiding things in their person from other people. Characters like 'Devil' or '45' fit in this category. Working with their identities mainly secret, or with people knowing them by a new name altogether, and with their final goals being a rather blurry thing for most people. This Archetype can sometimes be mixed with another one, such as the Protector archetype, like in the case of 'Stalker'. (And 'lo and behold, this is my personal favourite, as obvious as that is by now, mainly because i love fucking with people's minds)

THE INSANE ARCHETYPE:

A type of character that is literally insane. Someone who has one or many mental disorders and has a very strange sense of morality to them thanks to it. Usually this type of character end sup being a conflictive, if not evil character. Wreacking havoc for their own twisted goals that don't necesarily make sense to other people, or 'fixing' things in the strangest of ways for a overdeveloped and overly-complicated sense of morality. Harley Morrison on her first appearance or Needles Kane work into this category since they both have mental disorders that can be either genetical or psychological in cause and have an overdeveloped sense of either help people or destroy them Once again, this archetype can be mixed with another archetype, so it's very flexible as a base for a character, but it's difficult to play out properly, so don't abuse it!.

THE EVIL ARCHETYPE:

This is the one that most people tend to not go for, mainly because playing characters with an evil base is, quite obviously, hard as all hell, specially when you want your character to survive a long time because most people will probably want to see you dead. The evil archetype is a character that necesarily has no good intentions in any way or form. And if he does help anyone it's for his or her own gain. Usually Evil archetype characters are killers, thieves, rapists, particularly vicious combine. Or simply put, someone who wants to fuck shit up. One thing that you MUST remember when playing an evil character is that you /always/ need to have a clear goal with it. Something like "Those who survive my wrath are worthy of the freedom the outlands give." or "I'll make each and every one of you just as insane and broken as i am.". An objective is something MANDATORY for an evil character, since someone who just goes about killing for shits and giggles is simply not interesting both to play as or against. And ends up causing more issues than it's worth. Characters that fall into this category would be Achim Bartholomeus or Harley Morrison's first appearance , though Achim didn't really have a set goal so take his example of an evil character as tongue in cheek.

There are obviously quite a few other archtypes, but these examples are shown and applied to the characters of the outlands. An archtype is only the BASE of your character, what you build on top of the archetype you've chosen is entirely up to you, as well as how it will develop, and in some cases, how it will inevitably end. (If this helps everyone, i'll make some more archetype descriptions)

Keep these in mind next time you plan to make a cool character, and remember to keep them consistent throughout their development, otherwise you'll just be a very confusing player and have a very confusing story for yourself alltogether

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.
It was very late at night, and the outlands had grown quiet and still from a day of rather chaotic events. Eli walked through the tunnel that connected the river with the inner valley

"I swear to god... If Matthew and Harley hid my smokes again..." His mind was filled with petty thoughts by now, thinking about friends and family as he made his way through the dark corridors, however, as he walked by the service door, something called his eye.
A strange glimmer and the sound of a blowtorch could be heard from the other side. It was as if someone was working on a metallic object.

As hurried as he was, he could not resist the urge to take a look inside as curiosity overwhelmed him.
Sneaking up to the door first, making sure to keep the eerie silence of the tunnel undisturbed as he got closer to the wall.

Inside there was a small woman, no bigger than 5 foot 5, with strange and messy white hair that seemed to go all over and a set of very dark googles on her eyes as she used a blowtorch on what looked like a small shotgun. It was clear from just taking a quick glance at her that she was a rather elderly woman, but the vigor with which she worked on her rather improvised workshop made you believe that she could not be over her 40's.

He opened the door to the place slowly, carefull not to make much noise as the woman continued to work on the weapon, seemingly cutting it down and fixing part of the trigger mechanism, which was broken down in several parts and barely recognizable unless you were a skilled gun smith.

The elderly woman took the goggles off for a moment, sighing as she looked more detainedly at her work
"Hmm... Yeah... This looks juuuust fine" She sounded pleased with herself as she commented on her own handiwork, taking off the goggles entirely and starting to clean them up as she turned around, finally noticing Eli who had just walked in "Oh!- I wasn't expecting any visitors around here... Specially not young ones!" She seemed a bit too relaxed at the sight of him, though considering the ammount of weapons that Eli could see just from merely taking a glance at the room, it was obvious why.

He stayed silent, unsure what to say as the lady walked up to him, taking a detained look at him as her eyes widened "Ohh... I know you! You're that boy 'Stalker', right?"

"How did you know?" he took off his hat as he looked at the woman, a little perplexed. "Oh i've been hearing a bit about you, darling. When you do things your way, tales tend to spread about you, don't you see?" She smiled lightly as she patted Eli's shoulder.

She turned around for a moment "Feel free to look around darling, just don't touch anything" The elderly woman seemed to treat Eli almost like a grandson as she continue to work on some more of her projects. Weapons and other mechanical gadgets filled the walls of her small workshop as Eli wandered about it for a moment, taking a look at some of the items.

"I didn't think anyone lived inside these tunnels... Or had a workshop inside one for that matter" He commented as he took a quick glance at the shotgun the lady had been working on, noticing that the saw-off she did was a very clean cut.

"Oh i don't stay in one spot, obviously. Then the obvious nasties would come about and try to act rough with me." she said as she opened up a relatively small flaregun, taking a look at the mechanism that keeps the gun shut after you load it "Sure i'm not defenseless but still, can't be safe enough this day and age!"

Eli quickly put it together in his head that this woman must be the person he had been hearing so much about in the outlands. The so called 'Smith' that had a reputation for grabbing every single kind of weapon or material that was deemed 'unfixable' or 'broken', and that worked in an almost paranoid fashion to bring them back to their old fashioned glory

"I take it you're Smith then...?" He asked her to confirm, watching her work as he did so. "Oh... Don't tell me people still think that's my last name." She sighed as she closed the flaregun, having given it some proper maintenance "No hun, i'm just a normal gun smith, but i guess you could call me 'Miss Gunny Smith'... My husband used to call me that at least, bless that poor fool's soul" She smiled lightly as she remembered her husband, though from the way she mentioned him it was clear that he had passed away.

Some time passed by as Eli and Gunny spoke for some time, with someone finally paying more attention to her than just her work, she really enjoyed herself and let this young man in on some of her real life. What her real name was, where she had been born (New Orleans) And how did it came to pass that she got into working with anything and everything mechanical. As it turns out she was never a mechanic by profession, but by hobby. Being a household caretaker during most of her life due to her and her husband's traditional beliefs. It came a time however that she became rather bored with just staying around at their home. Her husband used to be a very passionate gun collector, so she took to guns herself as well, with a creative twist however. Taking her time not only to shoot, maintain and compare guns but trying to make small changes and customizations to them. Little by little and with the proper help from other people and her husband, she learned to do amazing things with her tools, some scrap metal or even broken parts of other guns and her simple imagination. Earning the reputation of being the best gunsmith in her town.

Due to that only being rumours and word of mouth instead of an actual study, the combine did not pay a shred of attention to her when they attacked, And she was thankfull that by the time those horrible events happened her husband was already 'Resting in peace'. When they got asigned to the cities she quickly bored of the lifestyle of the UU, Being cramped and unable to do any of her old work. She found one of her friends from childhood that had contacts with the rebellion, and got out on the next small group of people that dared trek out of a city, to seek out something interesting to do once more, and perhaps work on her old hobby again (which by the time Eli found her, she was doing succesfully)

"Oh i'm sorry... I must have bored you half to death there, Elias" She smiled gently at the young man as she finished telling him her story "Not really. I'm always willing to hear someone's story, specially when it's as interesting as yours." he got up slowly from the chair he had pulled up while they talked, stretching out for a moment "I've got to leave anyhow... The people in town still need my help, as much as i'd like to sit and just talk..." She remained sitting as she nodded politely "Oh I know hun... Say, if you ever need any gun work done you can always just come to me. I usually just need to know i can trust the person to help them out, and you seem like a very good person..." She gave him this smile that you'd figure would calm down even the most depressed of refugees, despite her 'line of work' she had such a sweet and calm demeanor "Plus, I always welcome any design that poses a challenge!"
He nodded to her as he put on his hat again, waving goodbye and going on his way towards the Inn. She had given him an old radio frequency that she used in case he ever needed to contact her.

A few days later, after a rather unfortunate event with one very nervous and annoying character that they had to subdue. Eli figured he needed to find a way to incapacitate someone without risking their lives... As he thought about it he figured he could use Gunny's assistance. After asking her for her new location with a quick radio message, Eli visited her once more, this time with a piece of paper where he had scribbled an idea for a non-lethal weapon.

"Eli! So nice to see you again, darling" She was wearing her dark googles, she was seemingly working on a rusty SVT-40, a weapon that was not uncommon in the outskirts of the territory. She quickly took them off as she looked at him, with some small smudges of oil over her face "Tell me, what's that project you said you had for me?"
"It's something a bit less dangerous than your usual projects, Gunny..." he handed her the paper, which depicted a modified flaregun, one that instead of firing normal flares fired 'Nets'. These nets would be made of what was commonly refered to as 'piano strings', and would entangle the target, incapacitating them and making struggling against the string hurtfull for them. There were also some ideas for different kinds of shells, but for the moment the only one he seemed to be sure of was this one.

"Hmm, it's a rather simple design allright... I'l have to modify one of my old flareguns but i believe i can fit it to fire these things. You know it'll have a relatively short range for a gun, right?" "Yeah. I figured as much. I might not be versed in mechanics but i know how physics work, Gunny. Do you think you can make it for me?"

Her eyes seemed to sparkle with a strange creativity as he asked, taking the paper and putting it up on her wall "Of course, hun. Come back in a day and i'll have it ready for you!"

After those few words, Gunny set off to work on the gun. Working the actual weapon took her about 7 hours, she was more than excited to work on a new project, and she used a combination of several things she learned during her time messing with weapons back in Louisiana as a hobby to create Eli's "Net-gun" as he had dubbed it in the paper

Following the small drawing that Eli gave her she reinforced the back part of a very old Flaregun she had with her, and disasembled a few flaregun shells she had laying about.
She used the scrap materials she had and the parts of other broken flareguns and used flares to build a shell that would hold the 'net'. She used some old wiring that she had made some days ago out of mere boredoom, which was made using crumbled down glass and an old method of combining it with the wire itself which thankfully only required the glass (which is in abundance at the old Bunker), Any kind of glue available (For which she had some saved up from the city, UU branded), Creating a thing that in south america is called 'Hilo Curado', A wire that is more resistant, but when handled without gloves or thick fabric on your clothes, can cause one to cut themselves.
After the weaving of the net itself was done, Gunny added some metal weights to the sides of the net, these would lead the net into tangling up over the person once it hit them, and thus drop them down by causing them to lose balance. While they were not particularly heavy, she placed them in such a way that they would effectively wrap the net around the victim on a succesfull hit. Finally, she fixed up the Flare shell's load to be smaller, making it so that the net would not fire too hard onto the person, and thus not cause any permanent or deadly damage because of the net's cutting factor. The ammount of the chemicals inside the shell would be about the same as a handgun, making the shells easy to fix up and be re-usable /if/ Eli was able to find more rounds.
She prepared 5 of these special shells to go with the gun, and to boot, she polished the worn flaregun, trying to clean up most of it's imperfections. By the end, the reinforced, Black matte weapon looked as good as any other decent weapon in the outlands can (To an extent of course, with some worn marks still, and without a professional finish to the reinforcements on the grip and the opening in the end.)

The next day, Gunny handed the weapon to Eli and told him everything he needed to know about it, as well as how to contact her in case he needed more shells for it, or even work on new ones. "I don't know how exactly i can repay you... This is a pretty big thing to give to someone you met only a few days ago".

"Oh relax Darling, you do enough good out here that you get a free pass" She gave him a warm smile as she patted his shoulder "Just go out there and kick some butt." With that said, Eli thanked her one last time and left her to be for the moment, leaving towards the Inn with his brand new weapon

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?
Perks
[Eli 'Harceleur' Valerian]
-The gun would be usefull as it would allow him to take down individuals without having to kill them, incapacitating them without the needless use of extra violence.

[Gunny Smith]
-The ability to maintain and possibly fix weapons in outlands, as well as have a small workshop that would allow for interesting RP between characters.
-The ability to (to a very limited extent) customize weaponry

Defects
[Eli 'Harceleur' Valerian]
-Due to the modifications needed to make the flaregun work, it would have a limited range, making it a mid-range weapon that requires some time to arm as well as some space to properly act.
-The ammunition for such a weapon is limited, while recyclable, this can be done only once or twice. Making the ammount of usages 10 to 12 at best for this weapon. Once all of these are used, an auth is required to make more ammunition.

[Gunny Smith]
-The fact that she's one of the few people that can work with guns would make her a major target for bandits in outlands
-She requires extensive ammounts of scrap metal and materials to create and fix weapons, thus making the process of making a repair extensive and always requiring a proper auth.
-Her old age means that most of her weapon fixes won't always be 100% accurate, but once more, she's the only one out there who can really do some of these complicated fixes
-Fixing a weapon usually requires a lot of time as well, making her unable to fix more than 2 weapons at best per auth.

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
[Eli 'Harceleur' Valerian]
-I would plan on taking on the people who create issues in outlands in a more efficient, less lethal way.
-I would also make a bigger point on Eli's new take on fighting people, finding more non-lethal ways to fight back

[Gunny Smith]
-I intend to create more interesting RP, as well as take 'jobs' from people to fix weaponry and to create a better and more equipped outlands for those who have and can use weaponry (I would not 'create' a weapon, i would 'fix' weapons for those who already have them, or combine two broken down IC weapons into one fixed weapon)

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))
No one apart from the two characters listed in this auth

Which server does this apply for?
Outlands

Extra Notes (optional):
This is a long auth. Sorry for the poor bastard that has to read it whole. xd

Denied Outlands Appeals / Eli 'Harceleur' Valerian's Outlands Appeal
« on: July 23, 2012, 05:52:00 PM »
Steam Name: Elions
Steam ID: carnby9
Character Name: Eli 'Harceleur' Valerian
Reason for the switch: RP reasons

"... Remind me why we are doing this again?" Elias talked to 45 as they stood very close to the perimeter defenses of City 45 "Because we need to stop this nonsense... And act directly at the source of the problem."

As much as Elias disliked the man, he was right. Their work in the outlands would be in vain if they didn't do something about the city itself. But the question remained of how would they be able to stay undercover there, specially considering the looks of Elias. 45 gave him a map he had written on a crude piece of paper "Look... We must take different routes. 2 people on the same route into the city would attract too much attention. Yours will lead you to the sewage system of the city... You'll have to stay there untill i can make contact with you."

"Great..." Elias groaned to himself "I get to be the lucky one to go through a river of shit..."
"Look, Mon ami... I don't like this any better than you do. But with your looks and your clothes. You'll hardly pass for a normal Civilian... We need to figure out how to disguise you later. For now we need to get in. I'll meet you in there once i've set everything well on the outside. Allright?."

Elias sighed and nodded. Without much further conversation they decided to move forward.

Elias had to move through the lowest parts of the City's perimeter, following the map that 45 gave him to the simples instructions, he snuck slowly and carefully through the defenses. Using the cover of darkness and avoiding any light sources that could give out his location to the CP's that patrolled the city. He quickly found the grate that 45 had marked on his map "Well... Here goes nothing..." he jumped inside, into the sewer system of the city. Hiding inside the darkest corners of it as to avoid being seen by the citizens. Waiting for 45 to come about.

Do let me know if i need to give you any further info.

Eli sighed as he looked at the abandoned theater building. An old building that was hidden deep inside the woods, out of reach from most people in the outlands "... This better be worth it". Joanna, his sister was with him at the time, as he felt he needed someone there to make sure things went well "Eli relax... They said they could help you, right? And they've already gone as far as reviving you. If anything you should trust them" She said as she put her hand to her brother's shoulder, trying to get him calmer as they walked into the theater.

The door creaked from it's years of decay as they both walked in, small holiday lights hanging all over from the ceiling, giving a very low light, but just enough to iluminate the entire building, wich was home to several refugee vortigaunts. A safe haven for their kind, or so did Joanna and Eli understood it as at least.

All of them looked at the pair of siblings with strange expressions. It seemed like none of these vortigaunts had seen a human ever. Or if they had, they had grown to resent them, though as they catched on to Eli's strange eyes and Vortessence emanations, they backed away.

"I'm looking for Rasd'Jaul" Eli spoke out to the vortigaunts, hiding his eyes by tiping his hat forward as to not disturb them any further , hoping that one of them could understand english. As he mentioned the name, some of them turned their expressions from despise to a strange confusion. Some chattering could be heard all over as they seemed to ask themselves how could a mere human know about Rasd'Jaul. As they talked, some of the vortigaunts seemed to turn hostile, chanting and charging Vortessence volts in their claws "Joanna... Get behind me..." Eli was trying to protect her as their chanting got louder, both of them were scared, but the treatment and answers Eli needed were too great for him to leave just like that

As the vortigaunts readied themselves to attack, a loud bang was heard, like someone took a log and hit the ground in the distance.

All the vortigaunts stopped their chanting, putting their claws down and looked back towards the end of the destroyed theater, a single elder with strange red and blue markings all over his body stood there, holding a big wooden staff, seemingly painted with tribal motifs (Or at least that is how a human could describe them at best) a strange grey tattered coat on him as well. His eye glew green instead of the usual red colour of normal vortigaunt eyes, much alike Eli's. He slowly approached, a rather ominous air to his every step as he finally reached them "The Valerian.... And The Sinbow... I have been waiting for you to unveil yourselves..." he spoke in a rather tired tone, in the same accent as most vortigaunts do "... The Sinbow will excuse us... But we require an audience with The Valerian... Alone."

Joanna looked at Eli, her expression showing obvious concern "Don't worry... I'll be fine" Eli tried to calm her as he and the elder moved away from the rest, she simply nodded and walked out, deciding to wait outside the theater for Eli's return.

As Eli and the elder entered a room shut apart from the rest of the theater, he couldn't help but ask "... How did you know my name?". The vortigaunt answered him without turning as he put his staff against the wall, standing in front of a table with several 'ingredients' and concoctions, the vortigaunt was seemingly more than in touch with the old tribal traditions of the Vortigaunts and Vortessence. "We could ask the same thing... And obtain the same answer" "... Ach." The name rolled in Eli's tongue as he realised that his vortigaunt friend had not told him just where to find these vortigaunts, but to also alert them of his impending presence. "Look... I know i'm being too direct here but i must know... Is there any way for me to control this.. Thing inside of me?" He clearly reffered to the excessive ammounts of Vortessence inside of him. While Humans and Vortigaunts both are 'one' with Vortessence, it was a rare case for Vortigaunts to have this ammount of it in their system. Let alone for a human.

"Perhaps...." he turned around, the glow in his eye more prominent as Eli realised that the elder was afflicted in the same way "This one... Suffered much alike The Valerian did. We are no strangers to death... Or to disabilities when it comes to the Vortal planes." "Do you mean..." "Yes. Our Vortal chords were non-existant." Eli was shocked to hear of such a thing, a Vortigaunt with no vortal chords sounded as strange as a bird with no wings, or a fish with no fins.

"How... Did you get them back?" Eli seemed to hesitate as he asked, feeling rude to ask such a question. "This one had to dwelve into the most ancient traditions of Vortigaunts... We found one way to do it... It brings inmense pain, and does not guarantee one's survival." It was then that Eli realised just how costly it could be to control the vortessence he had been infused with. But he could not live with the idea that at any moment this vortessence inside of him could turn back everything the vortigaunts had done to revive him.

He prepared himself for the "ritual" that Rasd'Jaul talked about, having to take off most of his clothes off (Only leaving him in his tattered jeans) and sit in silence as the elder prepared him, painting his body in the same tribal motifs that he had on his green skin.

As Eli kneeled down, awaiting whatever it was that the ritual had in store, Rasd'Jaul began chanting, his voice resonated through the entire theater, he held the large wooden staff in one hand as he held what seemed to be a kind of Antlion abdomen, glowing a dim blue in his hand. As the ritual started, vortessence seemed to envelop the entire room, Eli could feel a strange warmth envelop his entire body as the vortessence seemed to cause somewhat of a storm inside the room, the place shook as the chantings of the elder became louder, with each passing moment, that warmth sensation became a burning feeling inside Eli's chest, wich made him cringe in pain at first, almost breaking his position before the elder yelled out "The Valerian must remain still for this to work!" The pain Eli felt from the burning sensation was not going to cede, if not grow stronger with each passing moment, but he nodded, trying to stay still as the burn started to envelop his entire body now, making him scream in pain.

It took all of 7 minutes for the process to finish. After which Eli could not help it and passed out from the exhaustion and pain. Several hours later, he awoke, grunting in pain as he got up slowly, he had been layed down on a bed. As he took a moment to feel his own body he could tell that whatever that green paint the elder had used on him had left him permanent marks on his body, he sighed "Great... Just another thing to make me look insane..." He looked to his side, noticing the elder there "Well... Did it work?." The elder was working on the table of ingredients again as he looked over his shoulder "This one cannot say...".

Eli couldn't help but break out in anger "What the hell do you mean?!" He got up quickly from the bed, trying to get the elder's full attention now "Look at what you bloody did! I look like a circus freak now with all this revival and Vortessence infusion crap!" He did not realise it as bolts of vortessence grew in his hands "I've been thrown back from the dead, infused with god knows what, and used by a tribal alien, and you don't know what you even did?!" As he pointed his hand, the bolt of vortessence fired from his hand, hitting the wall by the elder. It took Eli a second to realise what he had done... And for the elder as well to realise what this /Human/ had done. "... Holy shit... It worked..." Eli said as he looked at his hand, the green shock and flame of the vortessence still lingering in his hand before he closed it.

The elder smiled lightly as he looked at Eli "The Valerian's process is complete... But now will have to learn on their own how to control it." "What?-..." The elder pointed Eli to the clothes he had when he entered "Every Vortigaunt must learn at their own pace... While The Valerian is but a human, his learning cannot be any different... Trust the vortal planes as i did. Let them teach you and guide you... For we cannot do anything else but to watch over."

Eli sighed, looking out, he could see that all the vortigaunts out there were looking at them, a path open, but their expressions were not of disgust like before, but a mixture of confussion and respect. He looked back at the elder, nodding and taking his clothes, walking outside to meet his sister again. He had been granted the power of Vortal Chords. Of manipulation of the Vortal plane. But wether this was good or bad for him, or the people around him, remained to be seen.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?
Perks
- Control of the Vortessence that's infused in Eli
- Possibly be able to speak Vortiguese (Since you require vortal chords to truly understand and speak it)

Defects
- Since he's only human and has no training, the Vortessence could very well be more dangerous to him than an aid in some cases
- Could lose control and hurt himself while attempting to use it
- He'd stick out like a sore thumb like this.

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
Obviously advance and improve the character, as well as not require any kind of weaponry to defend myself in bad situations. There is a lot of back story to this as well, and it would help advance the story of Eli's character further.

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))
No.

Which server does this apply for?
Outlands

Extra Notes (optional):
I spent a lot of time in this story darnit, at least respond faster! xD
