Guides / How to speak like a Vortigaunt.
« on: August 06, 2011, 02:08:59 PM »
This guide is to teach new and old Vortigaunt players how to speak like one.

Chapter one: Greetings
Now if you've even played HL2 you should know Vortigaunts never say "Oh hai" They say something like "Greetings." Or "Ah, the Freeman." Something along those lines. Although you could just say a good old "Hello" You could add something to it. "Ah, The Mike Boone, hello."
Recap: When greeting someone say something along the lines of "Greetings" or "Ah, the Mike Boone" Your supposed to act like a wise sounding alien.

Chapter two: Saying someones name
Vortigaunts always refer to someone as The (First and last name)
IE: The Mike Boone
In some cases, you don't have to put "The" before their name. This only applies when your calling them. (IE: "Freeman!") Also, don't call someone by their nickname if they have one. (IE: Tessa 'Lovebird' Carmine) Just refer to them as "The Tessa Carmine"
Recap: Put "The" before saying someones name (IE: The Mike Boone) but don't put "The" if calling someone. (IE: Boone!) Also don't use the nickname in someones name (IE: Tessa 'Lovebird' Carmine) Just refer to them by their first and last name.

Chapter 3: General speaking
When speaking in general you kind of have to talk funny. So for example: If two people are fighting and refuse to stop don't say "Don't make me use my lightning powers on you!" Say something like "Must a greater power intervene?" As a vortigaunt, you must act and speak wisely, saying things, well, wise. Here are a few examples:
"The Combine slowly waste away"
"Halt"
"This will be suitable transportation"
"You humans are a strange race"
So on and so forth.

Chapter four: Refering to other Vortigaunts
When refering to your race refear to the vortigaunts in your race as your kin. The Vortigaunts also refear to something called "The Vortessence" which is a binding lifeforce. It remains untapped by humans, meaning you can't teach a human how to use the Vortessence. In basic terms, The Vortessence allows Vortigaunts to speak to each other telepathicly.

I hope this guide helped you speak and act more like a Vortigaunt. I will add more when it is needed. I got most of my infomation from the Combine OverWiki.

Roleplaying as a Vortigaunt is very challenging and requires a fluent command of the English language. You need an extensive vocabulary, which entails, among other things, a running knowledge of connotation and denotation. You should be skilled in saying the same thing in at least five different ways. When I play on my Vortigaunt character, I usually have two main tabs in my Steam Overlay. Firstly, I keep the Vortigaunt Quotes section of the wiki page handy. This allows me to view examples of in-game Vort-speak, and is extremely helpful in getting ideas on how to phrase sentences, and getting an overall grasp of syntax. In addition to the quotes section, read the rest of the wiki article for general information about your Vort character. The second tab I have ready in the Overlay is an online thesaurus. The thesaurus will likely become your best friend when roleplaying as a Vortigaunt. Every single thing you say and do should have a subtle, alien-but-rustic sound to it. As you roleplay on your Vort character, note which words you seem to use commonly. After your game session, tab to the thesaurus and look up the chosen word. Examine similar words and pick the ones you think would be a good addition to your Vort-speak vocabulary. Remember to take breaks, because when you get mentally tired, the quality of your roleplay diminishes.

IC Chat / Mike Boone's journal
« on: August 03, 2011, 11:41:22 PM »
Log #1:
Well I thought I might aswell write in a journal.
Where to begin...
Well I might aswell write how I'm trying to be friends with the Voltigaunts. Its not working out well. So let me write out my experinces with my first meeting with one.

So I was climbing up this ladder and I found myself in a little outpost. I turn and theres one just standing there. I pull out my SMG and aim it right at his face, I pull the trigger but I'm out of ammo. (Stupid for even thinking I could take down a Vort) So then he shoots lightning out of his hands and knocks me unconsious. I woke up outside the outpost and some guy told me to climb up the to outpost. I saw him again and asked some guy named Kenny if he was on our side, he said he was. I felt so stupid for pointing a gun at him so I attepted to say sorry but antlions were breaking down the door of the outpost. So he didn't have time hear out my apology. Before striking me with lightning he mentioned something called "The vortessces" or something like that. I'm guessing it has to do with communicating with other Vorts because I found another one and tryed to make nice with him but he ended up nearly striking me with lightning. He seemed injured and confused so I decieded to leave him be. But still, I hope I can be friends with these vorts, I still feel bad about pointing my gun at I think his name is Vok. I'll hopefully figure this out soon.

Support & Help / Question about Blender
« on: July 28, 2011, 11:44:00 PM »
Okay so I've been hinting that I was making a secert project (Not very exciting however) but I have some questions to ask before I start.
So what I'm trying to make is a flyable dropship entitie. So a few questions:
1) Could you make an entitie do stuff NPC's would do? IE: Walking around, hitting people ect. But not big stuff like attacking.
2) If 1 is no then could you make an NPC be under your control without the toolgun? I was planning on putting a button insde or outside the pod that would summon a spawned synth, thus allowing you to control it and fly around transporting you around.
Also I was going to make animations for the dropship to walk. They were originally supposed to walk but Valve didn't put it in. I kind of liked the idea of walking dropships.

Anyways if you could answer these confusing questions that would be great.

IC Chat / Mike Daring's final days of citizenship journal
« on: July 19, 2011, 12:27:36 AM »
(// EDIT: The only person who can write in this journal IC is Alice Blue Scott)

Log #1:
So I decieded to get a journal to record my last final days of being a citizen. Even if my first app doesn't get accepted I'll just wait and make another one. Anyways I'll start with what happened after I made my desision. After being awarded my loyalist armband one of my best friends, Katey Shanton, Got very angry because she doesn't like the CCA after what happened to us in detainment (More on that later on) So she yelled at me and hasn't talked to me since. Most citizens have been treating me like an outcast. Although there are a few people that like me its probably because they haven't found out why I got a loyalist armband in the first place. For now I'm just waiting for my app to be checked. I'm very excited to see if I get accepted or not. The suspense is killing me.
Well enough for today.

Accepted PK Appeals / Mike Daring
« on: July 17, 2011, 11:18:04 PM »
Steam name: Darkshifter98
Steam ID:STEAM_0:0:37318750 (Sorry if its not right)
Charcter name: Mike Daring
Admin who issued PK: RTLK (I think)
Reason for Un-PK: While being sent to detainment (for reasons unknown to me) Someone was trying to escape detainment. I moved out of the way and an officer thought I was an escapee and shot me. Followed by PKing me. But after explaining that it was a misunderstanding it said in the chat log that my charcter was un-banned. However whenever I try to get on my charcter it says he's banned. If this could be looked into that would be wonderful. I just sent in my CCA application and it would kind of suck if I was PKed the day after I send it. Anyway thanks for looking as this.
