News and Announcements / Re: Orange Cosmos Roleplay 2
« on: June 22, 2012, 11:47:56 PM »
If you donated on OCRP will it pass over to OCRP 2 ?
Not likely to. It would be giving a better start to people who donated, and the last thing we want is more elitism.
I know people who donated for 1mil or more. It'd be incredibly unfair to start off with 1 mil. On the other hand, If I had donated for 1 mil, i'd feel angry and cheated like hell.

Please, take the time to read this:
OCRP IS all about making money and buying fancy cars to drive around and look cool. But that doesn't mean it has to. If there were other ways of earning money other than just GROWING stuff, like being a businessman, investing money in stocks, playing in a casino, being cop(who are incredibly underpaid), being a medic, being mayor, w/e you want to be. NO. You can only earn good amounts of money GROWING.
And new ways to SPEND your money. I understand there must be new expensive things, such as cars and shit. But what people seem to enjoy as well is STATUS. So a few additions to the player's model, like  sunglasses, a hat, a tie, a pair of shoes, things the other players can see and talk about. "Wow, nice hat, how much was it?" Same way people talk about fancy cars. And that gives them purpose.

The reason why people don't RP that much is mostly because growing weed and shit is not something quite RP-able. Or lets say, it doesn't promote it. /me waters the weed plant as he amazes himself with the speed it grows. "Damn, I'll be able to buy a car soon.", he says. Now some things that do promote RP are jobs, games, events, and those "accessories" I mentioned. /me touches his fancy hat as he counts the money he's going to invest. Looks again to the monitor, realising his stocks are dropping really fast. "Damn!", he yells, and gets up in a hurry, to talk with the sales girl. His hat falls off his head. "I wanna sell my stocks, right now!".

I know he'd probably sell his stocks before typing it all, xD. But hey, I think you got the main idea. Lots of new stuff, lots of new RP-able ways to earn and spend money. That's what I hope to see, and that's what would overcome my anger of getting reset.

Sorry for the long post.

Alyse Mirabelle's Civil Authority Application

OOC Name: Lord SirTai

IC Character Name: Alyse Mirabelle

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.
My character was raised in a calculist and cold way, carefully planned by her parents. They taught her, the hard way, how to face her problems and control her emotions.
That has lead my character to an unfortunate situation, on which a softer judgement and a fear-free upbringing could've avoided. She worked in the police force, and in her last emergency call, those distinctions made her kill her partner.
Now she seeks for a safe place/person, someone strong enough to hold her, someone smart enough to understand her, and she has experience with civilian protection, since she was a police officer, so she thinks that's her place to be.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
Cold, Calculist, raised in a brutal family enviroment by her parents, Alyse was made what she is now, a quick-thinking, determined woman that's been through hell and realised she is what her parents made her be, a monster.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
I expect it to be, for me, a very good learning experience, that will most likely improve my RPing skills in a unique way, by giving me the opportunity to RP with very good quality people, on the most different situations. And to my character, she'll hopefully find what she's looking for, somewhere she'll find someone strong enough to supervise her, and not let her loose on the world, because that constantly haunts her, that feeling. And she thinks that's her place to be, since all she knows is to work with civilian protection/law, a place where her set of skills are fit for.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
To hear about Alyse, you must first understand something about her parents, Brian and Carol, and their lives.

Brian was born in 1970, in Denmark, he was really intelligent but lived a hard life as a teenager. See, he was very lonely, and that changed him in many ways. He didn't grow as a normal teenager, and that gave him a few powers.
First power was being able to stop his emotions and simply doesn't care about anything. That power evolved during his young years, and he could, then, control his emotions. He could love whoever he wanted to, he could hate whoever he wanted to, he could love or hate no one.
Second power, a consequence of the first, was a clean, open mind that was slowly built over years of solitude and philosophy.
Third and last power was, with all that control and intelligence and with a bit of practice, he learnt to navigate through people's minds and understand their emotions. Then he started manipulating them.
And in 1987, Brian had total control over his moral values, emotions, impulses and close friends.

Carol was born in 1971, in Denmark, and little is known about her backstory. Let us rush to the part before they meet. Carol, somehow, had the same powers as Brian. Their upbringing conditions were similar, thus she developed them as well.
She had one more power, though. She could lie. Not just lie, as normal people do. But lie in such a perfect way that you simply couldn't trust anything she said, becase you couldn't say if it was true or not. But she did give her trust to one person. Brian. She moved from her city to his, and there, at the highschool, He met her, through a friend.
Their first contact was a hell of an experience for both of them. They had found their equals. Yet, they were scared. They didn't know the full extent of each other's power. Brian was more confident, but Carol was frightened.
Turns out that, with a bit of talk, she realised she was stronger than him, and he agreed on that. And then, their emotions betrayed their control, and they felt like their were a match.

They promised to get married and did, and in 1991, Alyse was born.

For Brian and Carol, raising a child to the world was meaningless, they knew she would end up being just a part of the system, a tool of society, a living rock. And they agreed on raising their daughter in a unique way. She'd be taught, since little, by Brian and Carol, in such a way that she'd have all their powers by the age of a young teenager.
And so they did. Brian took a mask of bad father, who only ordered her around, and Carol took a mask of conforting mother. No matter what the situation was, If Alyse was around, Brian was a bad father, and Carol conforted her and encouraged her to face her father. Most of the times, she ended up getting beaten up. A little girl, fighting against her evil, bad father, and helped by her mother.
She used all the tools she could, to deceive her father, but she wasn't good at it. When she lied about something, Brian easily noticed, and always hit her. But her mother encouraged her and taught her a few tricks.
Brian and Carol talked about how hard should he be, or what Carol should say. They were accomplices in that mission. Raising a warrior, a true soldier, one that would endure anything.
Evidence of their success were clear when she was around 9 years old. She could lie better than her mother, but she didn't lie to her. See, that was also part of the plan. Carol would be her best friend and eternal protector, in order for her to know what's going on on Alyse's mind. And, with pride, that their plan was clearly working, Carol and Brian were happy.

When Alyse was 18 years old, she was a woman made of iron. She had such a tranquil state of mind and control over every little thought in her mind. She was the mixture of Brian and Carol, their creation. And she was much stronger than both.
Alyse was cold, calculating, quick-thinking, determined, an incredible liar and manipulator. She could endure pain, she was beaten up all those years. She could fight a little. She could kill, or give up life without regret.

In order to avoid her killing her father, who started to act really carefully with food/drinks and always carried a taser, Brian and Carol decided to sit with her and tell her their plan. Hopefully, she would be thankful.

They sat in the living room, all three, and they began talking. "Alyse, what would you do, if during your entire life, the pain and suffering you endured were part of a plan?". She remained quiet, but it got her attention. "What would you do, if your father and mother raised you in a brutal way, in order to make you who you are now?" She took a while to answer, her forehead contraction in an avalanche of hatred, fought by a strong self-controlling mind. Then she relaxed, exhaled and said, in her usual, cold voice. "I'd kill you both.".
Brian and Carol knew that Alyse, now, knew it was true. Then after a moment of silence, Alyse said "Then, I'd thank you."
"Would you be happier if we just got out of your life?", her parents said. She thought for a moment. "Yes.".

And so, Brian and Carol moved to France, and left Alyse alone in Denmark, with most of their money.

She thought of ways of using her skills, skills those that were results of a harsh upbringing, but skills she was thankful for. She decided to join the police force.

She went through police academy, and began as partner of a man named Elton, a seargeant in the Police Deparment of Helsingør. She ranked up really quickly, reaching Seargent rank in practically 3 years. A few years that, she was assigned another partner, a rookie girl named Mary. They worked together through various situations. Alyse liked her, she was her first real friend. But something always pissed Alyse off. Mary was slow-thinking, she didn't belong there. She, most likely, joined the police force out of need. And one day, it turned critical.
They were having lunch at an arabian food restaurant, a bit far from the PD. Mary had to go to the bathroom, and the moment she was there, Alyse got called via radio. She was the closest unit to respond to an emergency call about a violent husband. When Mary came back, Alyse had already packed their remaining food for travel, and was waiting by the car. They got in, and she explained they were on call.
As they got close to the situation, the scenery looked familiar to Mary. She commented. "I live around here. It'd better not be Mr. McKinnon". The known violent husband of the block. No, it wasn't him.  They were going on Mary's street when Alyse parked the car. Mary asked. "Why did you park your car at my place? You're going alone?". Alyse looked confused, then in a slight of a second, she figured the situation out. She got out of the car, and knocked on the door. They heard screams. Mary rushed to open the door, taking a key from under a plant vase. She opened it, and they both rushed in. Mary's mother was on the couch, screaming and bleeding from her left eyebrow, and her husband was returning from their bedroom, holding a gun.
Alyse quickly unholstered her pistol, pointed it to the man and yelled. "Drop it! Drop the weapon!". Then something unexpected happened. Mary unholstered her gun and rushed towards her father, standing between him and Alyse, yelling "No!", 30 feet away. Mary's mother started crying really hard, and screaming. "Don't shoot!", screamed Mary. She was holding her weapon, but was not pointing it to Alyse. "She's smart not to.", tought Alyse, in a slight of a second. "Move, Mary. That man is dangerous!". Mary's father raged, and pushed Mary out of the way, he was looking for a line for fire to shoot Mary's mother. He was clearly very drunk, yelling names at his wife.
Then a shot was fired. Mary's father attempted to shoot her mother, but the shot was a few inches off, and hit the couch. Alyse readied her weapon to take down the man, when something unexpected happened. Mary raised her weapon, pointing it to Alyse, who didn't stop, just yelled "Officer Jonson, put down your weapon NOW!". The strengh of Alyse's yell probably scared off Mary, who was also trying to push her father backwards into the corridor, thus, not allowing him to even see his wife. He fired another shot, that went past Mary's head and hit the window. The glass around the bullet hole shattered in that particular way.
Mary shot. Alyse was hit on her right arm. The next facts happened in less than a second. Mary's weapon started falling out of her hands. Alyse, instinctively using the strengh of the impact on her advantage, as her right arm was thrown backwards, she turned in her chest in the same direction and threw her left arm forward, bearly aimed down the weapons sights and fired one shot at Mary. As she was falling down, she fired another round. The moment she hit the ground, she aimed down the sights again, and shot Mary's father, who was aiming at her. The man fell backwads.
Alyse was panting, breathing heavily. She felt a small burn in her arm. Her brain seemed to be functioning in light speed, as her body flooded with adrenaline. She looked around. Mary was fallen on the ground, with a bullet hole on her forehead. Her father was also on the ground, bleeding heavily from his chest, heart pierced by a 9mm round.
The only sounds were the mother's screams, crying over the dead bodies of her family. Alyse slowly stood up, still shaking in adrenaline. Her breathing was slowing down. She holstered her weapon and stopped for a moment. She was stunned. That was her first strong feeling in a very long time. She took Mrs. Jonson by her arm, saying "I need you to come with me...". Her hearing started to come back, as the adrenaline flood started diminishing. She heard noises outside, people talking. And she heard her radio.
Next thing she knew, she was touched on the shoulder. She turned around quickly, it was Elton. "Are you okay?" He said. "You've been standing there since we got here.". She looked outside through the broken window. There was a safety perimeter set around the house and multiple police cruisers parked. Lots of people. Mrs. Jonson was getting treatment at the ambulance. Lots of sirens, lots of noises. "Come, we better take care of that." Elton led Alyse out of the house, she was snapping out of it. "I..I shot Mary...", she said in a low, cold voice. "We know. The wife told us everything. You had to, don't blame yourself.". As if in a triggered answer, she quickly said "Blame myself, pff.." Then she stopped. She was blaming herself.
Alyse was treated in the ambulance, then taken to the hospital. The .22 caliber bullet went straight through her arm, so no complicated surgery was needed, and no permanent damage was sustained.
Next morning, on her recovery bed, she woke up and stopped to think. She was dangerous. She didn't hesitate to shoot an emotionally unbalanced officer. "She had dropped her weapon...", she kept repeating to herself. "I shouldn't have shot...", "I'm a monster..", "I need to be watched 24/7..."

      And then, War.
After the shock, her harsh upbringing also allowed her to adapt real quick to the Combine way of life. She, now spends her day looking for someone strong enough to watch her, and smart enough not to be deceived by her.

~IC PART~
Full Name: Arthur Maerwynn
Citizen identification(CID): 46022
Last Assigned Apartment Number: UCH-A2
Total Loyalist Points: 4
Sex: Male
Age: 28

How long have you been in City45:
I've been in city 45 for 3 months, now.

Why do you want to join the CWU?:
I want to get a better, stable life in City45,a job to help people and to help myself make a better living.  I like to work, I am used to it, since I was young, and I don't see myself doing nothing all day.

Have you ever been detained before?(If so why):
     No, Never.

Past experience with work/labor:
I worked on my father's general goods shop, and made small repairs/cleaning while I was young. When I turned 16, he put me behind the cash register, and I started working as salesman. In one week, I got us the biggest deal in the history of our shop. We sold tons of supplies/accessories to an immigrant group that came to London.

Name 4 things the CWU Can possess, and 4 things we cant. Also state why.:
The CWU can have all basic CWU items, such as Tea, Donuts, Request devices, backpacks, bags, lemonade, flashlights , and shipments of these and more items. And they can have some medical items.

Why? The CWU Business division works with shops, that sell those items to the citizens, granting them accesories, extra pleasures and help. Those items are usually sold in CWU stands, for reasonable prices. And the Medical division helps the injured people with medicines given by the Civil Protection team.

The CWU can't have illegal items, such as weapons, drugs (except medical equipment), alcohol, and pretty much any non-UU branded items/water.

Why? Because weapons are, of course, dangerous and may only be used by the CCA. Drugs are not allowed as well, unless for medical reasons, as they're illegal, same reason for alcohol, its uncivilized. And  Non UU-branded items are probably contraband/black market products.

Tell us about what you can do.:
I'm a fine salesman, I can also do small repairs in furniture and simple electronic devices, such as flashlights, soda machines and watches.

If a citizen asks for help and is new to the city, what would you do?:
First off, I'd give him a set of supplies, then I'd buy him a room at the UCH, and help him settle down and tell him how he's supposed to behave in C45. That should keep him out of trouble.

Roleplay Experience: 1 year.
Serious Roleplay Experience: 1 month.
Detail a regular day as a worker of the CWU?:
Wake up, around 7am , drink some CWU Tea (my character is brittish. Loves tea). Change clothes and walk out of my UCH appartment. At the plaza, stop in front of the Nexus building for my daily tribute to the combine. After that, go for a morning walk around the plaza. Go to the CWU building and help where I'm needed, or set up a shop/stand to sell general goods for citizens. Pay a citizen to advertise my shop/stand, this works really well. When the ration distribution terminal is open, get my rations and head home, for lunch.
Reopen the shop/ Help where i'm needed until the end of the afternoon, head home and have dinner. Goes to sleep around 9pm.

Character Backstory:
Arthur Maerwynn was son of Brandon Maerwynn, owner of a quite big general goods shop in London. Since he was young, around 10 years old, he helped his father in the shop, wherever he could. His mother had died on a car accident two years after he was born, and his older sister Anne, was studying in France. When he turned 16, he started working as salesman at the shop, because his father was getting old, and couldn't keep up the job without compromising his health.
He started to get worse when Arthur was around 19. His sister was working in France, and came straight home after hearing her father was getting worse. Both siblings, standing beside their fathers dying bed. They got the diagnostic a week later, their father had Chagas disease, and he was lucky to have lived that long. Brandon Maerwynn died with 43 years old. Arthur began running the shop by himself and Anne went back to France. They didn't talk much after that.
Two years later, Anne quit her job and returned to London, to spend more time with the only family she had left. Arthur and Anne ran the shop together, and they've gone through very bad times with it. Anne thought of closing the shop and opening another business, one she could use the skills she learned in France, but Arthur couldn't do it. The shop was all that was left of his father and his accomplishments. After a big fight, Anne moved back to France and a week later, the Combine attacked. Since then, Arthur looked for his sister and found out, talking to the people she worked with, that she didn't survive.
Since then, he's been living in City 45, looking for a better life, and for strengh to forgive himself. If she had stayed with him, she'd probably be still alive.

                                                                               Arthur Maerwynn's Handbook - Page 3.

I met a new friend. Loren. We met when I was cleaning the plaza and the monument. He seems like a nice guy, and he's very helpful. He said he likes it, helping people. His company is very conforting. He gave me some combine cleaning solution to help cleaning the monument. It does really help.
I met another friend, Johnathan. I was cleaning the streets when a CP unit told him to clean, too. We ended up cleaning the entire plaza. We had to clean even blood. Turns out that the blood was kind of hard to remove with just water, so I added some cleaning solution. The blood came off easily. Next thing I know, John is talking to a CP unit, reporting that I have some sort of "vial". The CP examined it and returned it to me. Some people are just too loyalist.

I am starting to think the combine has some serious problems. Not sure if they are sadic and evil, or just stupid. Maybe both. This must change. Citizens can easily outwit most units. Igor is working with contraband all day. I'm afraid he's liking it. I'm not a fan of the resistance. Some say they're even worse than the combine. Paranoid, fearing ZEALOTs day and night. I might be wrong. I'm just tired, and my body aches. My head aches so much after that....Yes, I didn't write about it... I was shot. It all happened so fast. One moment I was watching a couple facing a firesquad execution, the other, I was waking up, didn't know where. And finally, I woke up totally. I was on fire. I don't even know how I survived. Woke up today, in my bed, Igor bringing me water, and my body was all bandages. He said it got pretty ugly. Luckly, my face is unharmed.
I don't want to talk about this anymore. I don't wish that to anyone. It is just...just Hell. I'll never forget that laugh.

                                                                               Arthur Maerwynn's Handbook - Page 1.

What would you do if you had found a handbook..with blank pages? It might seem childish, or even ridiculous, but this handbook...I really feel it could fill the void. City 45 was calm today. Rations were distributed without problematic citizens causing a fuss. As usual, I did my daily tribute to the combine, thanking them for the peace we enjoy, and caring we get. I was congratulated by a unit. He said I really should be thankful, and he told me to go home and get some sleep. I gladly did. Skipped my morning walk and went home. I somehow enjoy being ordered around. Feels like my responsabilities are taken away. It is lightening.
Igor is coming back home. I want to keep this a secret from him. For now. I'm afraid I'm not amongst the most popular of citizens. I fear I am being watched. Better hide this really well.

Would be fun for a week, then boring.

And we don't have the playerbase to start something thats really good, and the playerbase will just bring the RP down and run around, killing zombies.

But that's the point! We need Serious RP servers to atract serious rp players. They won't come because of OCRP or HRP. Maybe because of HL2RP.

If you are to do it with your mind already set in failure, it will fail. There won't be a perfect RP gamemode that will pass through your mind and that will change the whole CG community, and be the most played at first. You gotta start from something.

Imagine this situation: A new, non-rping, player joins the server, just to kill zombies. He'd start with nothing. If he faces a zombie bare handed, he'd die. That's what happens to most people. He would either leave, or have to look for weapons and ammo (which would be scarce) and would probably find other players, RPing, and would get involved in this.

How many of you have never wished you were in a zombie apocalypse? Everyone loves it. Some people even wait for it. The work is half done for you.  A serious RP server where players could immerge into that chaos and struggle for their lives would be an awesome attractive for new players. And good RPing players with them.

Don't turn down ideas like this one just because GMR2 died, already.

It could be SERIOUS. The enviroment and the situation are great for a Serious RP gamemode. And players could be infected not jut by bites and scratches and all that, (also they should be able to get infected when they wanted to, like you RPing you fell over a dead zombie body and some blood got onto your face. A drop, into your eye. You're infected, and will begin to turn in a few hours/days.. etc. AND there should be something like a virus anti-body that people could inject themselves with, to slow down its action. It would give another purpose for the survival groups to go search for this medicine to keep their infected sane.

I mean, who wouldn't play? D:

A Co-operative Survival gamemode, where you had to look for safe places, and people would be able to play as zombies or as humans, or there would be zombie mobs spawning, and you could look for ammo, guns and supplies, anything that would help you survive.
Coming to think of it, we could use an "apocalypse" version of evocity v33x as map. That map would be great, its big and shit.

I think what we need is to broaden our playerbase on the existing servers, and the most effective way of doing so is advertising. CG has nice servers, good developers, good admins and SA's. All we need to do is advert that, and get people to know CG, donate more, so we can get more CG-like servers, like the v33x Semi-Serious OCRP, back up and with a good playerbase.

There are different gamemodes for different types of people. You like survival, go play Survival. You REALLY like survival, go play Hardcore, you like building, go play Creative.

The food thing doesn't really limit you, as using a bow, 64 arrows, and a couple potions of swiftness extended(really easy to make), i can get 192+ steaks in about 15minutes , which LAST FOR A LOOOONG TIME. Or you can use an Inventory Editor, to get you food, w/e, so there's no reason to be bitching about food. Also, hunger does not kill you, It only weakens you.
