Suggestions / Re: Bring back the VIP board
« on: December 13, 2014, 02:54:28 PM »
I think I know why the VIP board was made since, you know, I made it.

We do a lot of things to give incentive to people for upgrading to VIP/Gold, and a board on the forum isn't really one of them. No one would pay for access to it, so that's really not a selling point.

Generally you can almost talk about everything on this board unless it has rules
I can't even.

Every board on the forum is subject to the forum rules, except spam (which I'm not getting into this argument, if you know me then you know I think spam is a stupid board). This includes posts, like the ones that were posted to bring all this attention to the board recently, were against the rules, as they would be on any other board. It has no bearing that it was posted in the VIP board.
Rofl confirmed that the VIP was not subject to the forum rules and was similar to spam and that the posts in the VIP board did not break any rules.

It was Alaskan who did it.

Is that fact or an educated guess?
TS several hours ago:
Me: "Rofl, did you remove VIP section?"
Rofl: "Yes."
Me: "Ok."
Fact.

There's already a discussion in the Admin board.  Hopefully we can get this sorted out.

Unless it was Alaskan who did.

General Discussion / We Need New Polls
« on: November 26, 2014, 08:37:56 PM »
Tyrex pointed this out, but he was ignored. The fucked up poll that was created by Top Hat broke a cardinal rule of polling, which is that you don't let people view results before voting. While you could not see results before voting, you could change your vote. This has the same effect as letting people view results before voting. It is psychologically and statistically proven that the knowledge of results at the time of voting unfairly influences and skews poll results. This is why, for instance, it is illegal in many countries for news agencies to release exit polls during elections before the polls result.

You could argue that the final poll, where you couldn't change your vote, is still valid, but the options for those derived from the first poll. The skew caused by this mistake could have been enough to change the options on the final poll, since some options only won by a vote or two.

Also, as some people including Statua did not even previously realize, HL2RP City was conveniently left off the poll, assumed to be a failure despite the downfall of HL2RP last time simply having been an untimely mapchange and a number of attacks.

Table Talk / Re: Transethnicity? Real, or Total Bullshit?
« on: August 10, 2014, 02:55:11 AM »
Yes, that does make you ethnically Russian. Ethnicity is an accepted characteristic of human beings. Transethnics are people who believe that they rightfully belong to an ethnicity that they simply do not belong to. It would be like if I, a person of mainly Polish descent and third generation American, claimed that I truly belonged to Anglo-Saxon ethnicity. I simply have no ethnic and familial history to justify a claim on being "Anglo-Saxon."

In a similar fashion, I think there is a problem with people who harp too much on parts of their ethnicity that do not influence my life. Along side my Polish ethnicity, I have Irish ethnicity, too. My last name is Irish, as well. Nevertheless, my family on both sides has adopted the cultural traditions of the dominant Polish heritage that we share. Since my Irish ethnicity has never had any particular consequence on my life, it would be silly to care much about that part of my heritage.

I'll concede that, but I still wouldn't name "Russian" as my primary ethnicity.  If I had to say what percentage ethnicity I am, I'd say that I'm about 50% German, 25% Russian, and 25% Hungarian.  Still, at the very least, I am a third-generation native-born American, so I personally find it a little hard to claim that I'm Russian when I have never been to Russia and really only started learning about the language and culture two years ago.
The percentages for ethnicity are not guessed. For each native-born Russian parent, you would be 50% Russian. 25% for each native-born grandparent. 12.5% for each native-born great-grandparent. So, for example, I am at least 25% ethnically Polish, since both of my maternal great-grandparents were native-born Poles, and I do not have the genealogical information to correctly calculate the paternal percentage.

I have to agree.  For example, I for one am really interested in Russian culture.  A lot of the customs strike a chord with me and I can see myself passing off as one if I ever went over there.  Also, my mother's mother's parents were Russian.  Still, does that make me Russian?

No.

Was I born in Russia?  Was I raised on Russian culture?  Did I grow up speaking the language, eating the food, and celebrating the holidays?

No.

If someone asked me for my ethnicity, I would give them Jewish and American because those are the cultures that I grew up with.  On another unrelated note, there's also the talk of the people who are 1/16 native american who claim that that drop of native blood makes them a native as well.  While that may have been widely considered true a century ago, I don't believe it.  If everyone in your immediate family is white, you're not a native american.

What I see here:

Replacement for HL2RP - Reskinned HL2RP

For the record, GamingZealot's inactivity is due to administrative reasons. OzJackal and I were originally going to PK his OfC, but instead we opted to give him a lengthy ban. Upon issuance of said ban, GamingZealot left the community. He is still on the roster, because he never returned to the server and, therefore, never had his character removed.

IC-Section

Full Name: Konstantin Hasenkamp
Civil Identification Digits: 08199
Sex: Male
Age: 29
Height: 5'8''
Weight: 125 lbs.

Currently Assigned Apartment Number: C-2
Total Loyalist Points: 0

Occupation prior to the Union: Interpreter

How long have you been in City 18?: A few weeks.

Have you ever been detained or received any reprimands? If so, why?: No.

Have you had any past experience in any of the following fields: labor, service, logistics, and or management? If you answered yes to any of those, explain the experience.
Management: I headed the language interpretation department of a multinational computer company.

Why do you want to join the Civil Workers Union?: Well, I want to serve my comrades and the Union, but I am sure that is the typical response that you receive on these applications. So, on top of my desire to serve, I see the Civil Workers' Union as an opportunity to attain for myself many benefits that could potentially benefit my own life.

What can you provide to the Civil Workers Union?: Well, in my previous role as a language interpreter and department head, I was required to manage many people serving various different, often unrelated, roles. Additionally, my role required that I be able to hold many conversations with others, and therefore I have developed a perhaps useful skill in conversation.

If a citizen were new to the city, and was in need of assistance, what would you do?: Well, I would, as any other responsible citizen, introduce myself and offer to help them find their way in the city, by giving them directions and a basic tour of the map and making sure that they received an apartment.

If a Unit was in need of assistance transporting goods, what would you do?: I would, of course, approach them and introduce myself; then, I would offer them assistance in transporting these goods, and I would also encourage my fellow comrade citizens to join in on assisting the unit if need be.

If you spot a citizen disobeying Union Law, what do you do?: It would not be within my capacity to enforce the law, so the appropriate action would be to report their disobedience to the closest unit if I could find. In the event that a unit was not nearby, I would take note of the disobedient citizen's physical description, and I would use my request device to notify the Metropolice Force.

Have you ever had a worker before? If so, what server and what was your involvement in the CWU?: I was, to my recollection, the first CWU director that we had here.

Give me a example of a role-play situation involving a Worker and a few Citizens: A person in treatment at the Citizen Hospital has a seizure and, in their thrashing movements, destroys multiple objects in the infirmary. In response, my character rallies Civil Workers and trustworthy citizens together to offer the CHP Director Monika Krause to make repairs in the infirmary. They would then create a list of repairs that need to be made in the infirmary; next, they would gather the supplies. After that, they would, of course, make the repairs. They would then ask the Director if the repairs were sufficient. If they were not, they would make any additional repairs that the Director requested, because they wish to serve their fellow citizens to a level of mutual satisfaction. If the repairs were sufficient, then the job would be done. Although they may be offered a reward, they would not accept as they were doing out of loyalty to their comrade citizens.
