Title: Halo: Custom Edition
Post by: Somone77 on November 03, 2011, 08:10:24 PM
Out of curiosity, how many of you have heard of/play Halo: Custom Edition (http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=410)?

Yes, I've heard of it from one of my friends that graduated last year. He ranted on and on about how awesome it was. XD Tbh, I'm kinda curious to see all the custom content created for it as he talked about how there was a sort of samurai sword he found once that he could climb walls/ceilings with.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I've played it if its the one I'm thinking about. Its basiclly Halo: Combat Evolved but more multiplayer based and moddable, allowing things like pelicans, longswords, new weapons ect.
Thats the one, right?

Correct, Halo: Custom Edition is, in itself, a byproduct of Gearbox's port of Halo: Combat Evolved. During the mapping process, they decided to release the tools for creating content, as well as the extension to the game to allow you to play multiplayer on these user created maps.

The reason to which I ask is that I'm curious if any of you play it. If you do, it's been a long time since I've been able to play with a variety of competent people. I would be more than willing to throw up an advanced server on the CG server box on a map cycle. I've got a good list of maps, as well as some that aren't publicly available.

Perhaps a zombie gamemode? That was always fun on CMT's Snowgrove

I would love to play a match on Halo: Custom Edition, it would give me a chance to play more maps that I haven't really heard of. As well as giving me a reason to install is again.

Might get in touch with my friend to tell him about this, don't have a copy of HCE though, so I'll not be able to play unless they have it Mac compatible. If it is Mac compatible, I will definitely be willing to install it if I can find one for free or try to get it sometime.

My very first FPS (youngster here). I played this for four years. IF you guys want, I actually just heard that my old clan still runs its servers, and they seem to get a bit populated some times. Plus, they have it so that you don't need a unique cd key, so just download a keygen and you're good to go. :>

Also, list the old clans you were in. Maybe some of us were in the same without knowing =p
XG (Xtreme Gaming)
Green/GMG (GreenManGroup)
BA (Battle Aces)

I used to play HCE all the time. Never was part of a clan or anything, but it was fun to derp around on it.

Alright, I guess I'll throw up a server just to see if you guys want to play there. A new thread will be made with the map cycle and where you can get those maps.

He's putting a custom edition server up, and he better make it so you don't need a paid for copy.

Lol, "paid for"

You can just install it from any old site and use one of the many public CD keys + no cd crack.

WHY DID I EVER STOP PLAYING!?

Note: All admins WILL need their own CD key, the way the server checks for your administration is by your key. I also don't support pirates.

I don't need admin at halo, I just play.  More of a time filler for me.

I just don't buy another copy because I don't feel like wasting the money.  I lost my copy around here.  I only have Halo 2 on my PC that has an actual CD key.

You need a Halo PC CD key. Come on Someone, this is shit, I've bought the original HPC 3 times and I was playing it for 3+ years. :< I don't even know if they sell the game any more, why can't people use public keys to get in?

I never said, in no way, that you won't be able to play while being a pirate. I don't endorse piracy for legal reasons. If you're using a cracked game, however, it's up to you to get on the server. The server will be running on version 1.09ce. Pirates, generally, don't have the updater and therefore are not on that version. There are ways that you can get on that version without updating, but that's up to you to find out.

lol HCE and its updater are easy to get, there are downloads everywhere, you just need a CD key. You almost don't need to pirate the game, the only thing you need to play multiplayer is a CD key.

Now I just need a map list of the map cycle. Any suggestions are welcome (only custom maps please) if you know the name of the map, I can find it.

Maps already in the cycle:
CMT Snow Grove (slayer, team slayer, ctf)
Yoyorast Island / V2 (race)
z Sanctuary H2 pb2 (slayer, team slayer, ctf)
Portent (slayer, team slayer, ctf)
CMT Tensity (slayer, team slayer, ctf)
CMT Coagulation CE (slayer, team slayer, ctf)
Extinction (slayer, team slayer, ctf)
Rainbow Road (race)

Coldsnap, being one of the most played maps in Halo CE servers (according to the Halomaps official page: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?pg=67), I feel is a map for more big-team games and Halo just doesn't have the players to accommodate such map sizes. While I like Tiamat's maps (most notably, Hugeass and Coldsnap) they don't have the gameplay value, and are more filler for stunts and general play.

If, however, there is enough demand, I will put aside these points and put it on there. My goal is a good player count, after all.

You should play it with us. I'll be digging up some old classic maps as well. I'll ask around to a view mappers I knew and see if they have any of their old creations they would like to pitch in.

While also having a mapcycle, there will be a votemap function as well. During the PCR (Endgame) the server will list 5 maps/gametypes to vote on, players can then enter their votes by typing "vote <id>" in their chat.

Edit Rainbow Road added to mapcycle.
