Accepted CWU Applications / Jacob Bender's Civil Worker Application
« on: June 17, 2012, 11:57:51 PM »
~IC PART~
Full Name: Jacob Bender
Citizen identification(CID): 14869
Last Assigned Apartment Number: UCH:A1
Total Loyalist Points: 1
Sex: Male
Age: 24

How long have you been in City45:
I have lived in city Fourty Five ever since I was relocated and assigned here. That's four years.

Why do you want to join the CWU?:
I wish to join the CWU in order to distribute Universal Union (UU) approved goods and consumables to the people of City 45.

Have you ever been detained before?(If so why):
No, I have not been detained. Ever.

Past experience with work/labor:
I worked at my Father's Convience store before the Universal Union took it to occupy earth. I mainly worked with stock, and unloading trucks. I had to make sure all of the shelves were re- stocked by morning, and everything was where it was supposed to be.

Name 4 things the CWU Can possess, and 4 things we cant. Also state why.:
The CWU can possess a wide array of CWU items, all of which are approved by the Universal Union (UU branded) such as; Milk, Noodles, Tea, Lemonade and other consumables. The CWU can also possess a variety of general goods, such as Flashlights, duffle bags and backpacks. All of which are UU branded.

The CWU Business Division is tasked with setting up shops in the street level business buildings of City 45 and distributing previously mentioned goods to the denizens City 45 for a set price of Universal Union Tokens.

All CWU workers are expected to carry handheld radios, so they're able to communicate with other CWU workers, however they are NOT allowed to sell them to the denizens of City 45.

The CWU can't posses or sell any items deemed contraband by the Combine Civil Authority, this includes, but not limited to; Firearms and weapons of all kinds, (Weapons pose a great threat to Sociostability and Combine Occupation) Ammunition for said firearms (For obvious reasons), explosives, Non UU food and drink (They lack Universal Union regulation), Drugs/alcohol (They cause Citizens to act out, and harm sociostability) and other assorted black market items. However, drugs used for medical purposes can be possessed by certian CWU workers, and used to heal the denizens of City 45, but they are, again, unable to sell medical equipment and drugs to civilians.

Tell us about what you can do.:
Working in inventory for many years, I am able to move large boxes of goods with relative ease, I also don't have a problem staying up late making sure everything is where it's supposed to.

// OOC note: It wouldn't let me put Zero Points, I have Zero Loyalty Points.

If a citizen asks for help and is new to the city, what would you do?:
I would let him know where the major landmarks are, the UCH, the Nexus, and the RDT. I would explain what rations are, and when they're usually given. I would advise him not to enter P3, and I would explain some of the laws to him. If he lost his standard issue domestic goods en- route to City 45, I would gladly replace them, as well as give him some food, and/or water.

Name: ?Bender?
Timezone: GMT -8
SteamID: STEAM_0:1:4293436
Roleplay Experience: Two Years
Serious Roleplay Experience: One year, two months.
Detail a regular day as a worker of the CWU?:
I would wake up, relatively early, (6 AM) and have a hearty breakfast, then have a shower and get dressed in his spiffy (swag) CWU uniform. He would then head on out of the UCH and to the CWU building to do whatever routine tasks assigned to him.

After that, he would go to the Plaza and set up shop, and distribute goods at a fair and modest price. At around 1 AM, he would have a quick lunch, and get back to work. Whenever rations are available, he would make way to the RDT to collect his double rations, and go back to his store. He would close his shop and return his goods to the CWU building at around 8 PM, then he'd have dinner and go to speep, ready to do it all over again the coming morning.

Character Backstory:
Jacob Bender was born in 1992, in Seattle, WA. From a young age, he worked in his father's convience shop in Tacoma (WA). Jacob's father never let him be a cashier, or anything else, and instead, gifted him with the wonderful position of Invenotory. Jacob spent long nights taking inventory of their stock, making sure nothing was stolen or missing.

Jacob absolutely loathed the work he was given, but he was content with the money he made, and bit his tongue. Jacob dropped out of high school to work at the shop full time, the decision did not work well with his father, and at that point, his father decided to cut his pay to nothing. Jacob saw that his life was falling apart, but kept vigilant that his father will die and he will inherit the store.

When Jacob was Twenty, the Universal Union invaded. Jacob's family was torn apart, and relocated to different cities. Thousands of miles from his home, in City Fourty Five, Jacob was lost, and didn't know what to do. After four years of living in apathy, Jacob decided to join the CWU, to try to get a job similar to the one that was taken from him before the occupation, and hopefully fill the void in his life.

As you can see, they're floating about a foot off the ground and bent over. There was about five people in that room, but the ones you couldn't see just flickered in and out of visibility.

Re connecting did NOT help at all.

Albert Forkalis's Civil Authority Application

OOC Name: [DG:CO] ?Bender?

IC Character Name: Albert Forkalis

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.
Albert basically to have a better quality of life, and maybe some power or at least the illusion of power. All his life, Albert disregarded the laws of wherever he lived and did as he pleased.  This caused Albert to constantly live in dread and fear as he did in Prison, and he saw no plausible ways out. Albert knew the UU was going to be a permanent fixture, and realized rebellion was not an option, for the UU was way to powerful.

Albert constantly felt watched, and hated the feeling. The Combine Civil Authority seemed like a logical way out, after all, to the citizens, they get to do whatever they want, Albert saw this as a way out. The only thing stopping Albert was the having to be in the presence of Civil Protection units, to Albert, they were an icon of fear and Albert did everything in his power to avoid them. The thought of having to be around them at all times disgusted him, and made the thought of enlisting near impossible, but he thought and thought about it, and at the end of the day, the chance at a better life seemed to outweigh him having to be around Civil Protection, after all, he'd probably get used to it.

Albert just couldn't bring himself to go and sign up, he hated being close to Civil Protection, and hated the idea of going inside the dreaded Nexus almost as much as he hated being around Civil Protection. The thought was constantly on Albert's mind, he was angry at himself, a better life was literally down the road, but he did not want to put himself through being around Units.

I am not completely sure whether on not all applicants get in ICly or they have to wait for their denied/accepted status IC like we have to, so I am going to continue writing assuming you have to wait for your acceptance both IC as well as OOC.

Albert finally did it, he applied, more or less out of nowhere. Albert was truly shocked at what he forced himself to do, and even more surprised at where he got the courage. The reality had set in, he just sold his life to the Combine, he lives solely for them and will follow orders given even if it means serious injury or death. Albert sat on his bed, mentally preparing himself for life in the CCA, vigilantly awaiting news on his acceptance into the CCA.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
Intelligent, Quick Witted and Honest.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
It will be a shock, life in City Forty Five has conditioned him to take the worst and deal with it, but he is only human, and finds it very, very hard to find the will to live in such a dystopian world. Albert had heard the rumors about the CCA, that they execute noneffective recruits, use harsh chemicals to control the minds of their units, preform lobotomies on defiant units to make them more docile, and other gruesome, albeit far fetched horror stories about life in the Combine Civil Authority. Albert wanted a better quality of life more than anything, and was willing to sacrifice a lot to get it. To Albert, he saw the Civil Protection as the cause of his low quality of life, but he also believed the Civil Protection got more things than Citizens, physical things like excess food and money.

Albert did not like the idea of being around Civil Protection at all times, and he hated feeling watched, but he feels that the reward is worth the pain. Albert will acclimate to life, but it will be difficult. In the past two years, Albert has been used to living in constant surveillance, with prison then life in a combine occupied world, but the negative feelings that come with that never completely fade, and although he will be given more by the UU, many negative aspects from Citizen life will follow him into CCA life, like the Surveillance, the rationed food, the strict rules, and the lack of choice. All in all, it will be a great challenge for Albert, but he will acclimate and deal with it.

Me, OOCLY, have been in the CCA before so it will be nothing new to me, but my old character was very developed and I look forward to starting over again as an RCT, which will allow me to develop my unit all over again, along with all of the other perks that come with Character Development and dat' delicious RP.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
Albert Forkalis was devastated and displaced during and after the Seven Hour War. When Albert Forkalis arrived in City Forty Five, Albert was shocked at the low quality of life that seemed to plague each and every citizen in the entire city. Albert always enjoyed the more clandestine parts of pre-war society, specifically the criminal ones.

Born June thirteenth, 1994, in a small town in eastern Germany, Albert got involved with crime at an early age.
When Albert was fifteen, he got involved in the underground world of Narcotics. Albert wasn't a big time dealer, but he made his mark on the town he came from. Albert got a handful of people in his town hooked on opium based drugs from the middle east. Albert had a decent stream of money by the time he was nineteen, this allowed him to afford a Car, which is a luxury many local youth could not afford. Albert became one of the more well known people in his area, everybody knew his name. Albert spent his excess money on things he used to occupy time, alcohol, prostitutes, light drugs and whatever deviant bit of crime he decided to kill a few hours with. The local law wasn't too fond of Albert, but most of them were paid off by Albert, which allowed him to do business in the light of day. When he was Twenty, Albert's suppliers who funneled his town with drugs decided to cut their connection with him because he was getting too much attention, this caused a chain reaction which resulted in the local law enforcement to no longer be bribed by him. Albert was detained and sentenced to eight years in prison for contraband distribution. Albert was truly devastated and saddened by this.

The year is 2015, and Albert had served almost a year in a prison located in the German countryside. Albert hated incarceration, everything about it irked him, the smell, the solitude, the people, the color of the walls, the food, the guards, the toilets, the bars, the windows. Not a day went by Albert didn't consider cutting  a screw's throat and raping it's twitching body just for the change of pace. Albert was never a big guy, and was constantly getting shit for it. Albert had been beaten brutally on almost a weekly basis, usually just for glancing at the wrong guy. Weeks go by into the new year, months, even, that's when it happened. The power went out and the guards tried to herd all of the inmates into a single cell block. There was one error, the cell gates were no longer locked. Crowds of ecstatic inmates poured out through the front door and into the surrounding wilderness. Albert did not stick around either. The seemingly endless woods made Albert's head spin, Albert was lost, and he knew if he didn't find shelter soon, he'd die. Weeks went by, and Albert was barely surviving on the wild animals he ate, his clothes smelled of sweat and urine, his hair was coated in a thick layer of grease, and his feet were swollen and waterlogged. Albert accepted his fate, and decided he'd hang himself from a tree with a rope he'd fashion with his clothes that night. The sun dipped below the horizon as Albert prayed to whatever Deity would let him pass into the afterlife. Albert took off his shirt and began twisting it into a makeshift rope, but then he noticed the wonderful view of the stars. Albert sat on the forest floor, looking up at the stars, the sight was magical. Out of nowhere, a green worm like construct zoomed over the forest, it was the loudest thing Albert had heard in weeks. Albert dropped his shirt and observed the aircraft, upon closer examination, he saw that it was not something humans manufactured, it was biological looking.

Albert desperately ran after it, but his meager speed was nowhere as fast the being zooming above him. The construct was long gone, but Albert kept walking, his feet bleeding and aching, but he kept walking, hoping to find it again. Albert had not noticed, but he stumbled into a train station in the countryside. Albert had not even noticed, but he gave his eyes time to adjust to the darkness. Albert saw that the lights were off, which is strange for a train station. Albert realized how long it had been since he escaped from prison, while he was calculating what day it might be, a splitting pain hit him in the back of the head and he fell to unconsciousness.

Life shot back into Albert, as he began to sluggishly open his eyes. It was bright, but things were still blurry. Shapes began to form, he could make out a man in Black standing in front of him, very close, only about a foot from his legs. Albert thought the man was very tall until he noticed he was sitting, and his hands were tied. Albert's eyes were now fully focused, and looking at the man in black, detail was starting to register in Albert's mind. The man was wearing a white gas mask and was holding a sub-machine gun. The gas mas man looked down at Albert and tossed a small pack on his bare chest. The gas mask man left from Albert's view, who's eyes were still fixed on where the man was standing a second ago. Albert moved his head and saw that he was on a train, with other bound people. The gas mask man was handing packages to everyone in the train car. The gas mask man finished giving everyone packages and stood in the doorway to the next car, focusing on the aisle that separated the rows. Albert's body ached from weeks of running, and wanted nothing but to sleep. What seems like hours pass, the train comes to a complete stop, Albert is shocked wide awake. The gas mask man instructed everybody to get up out of their seats and stand single file, Albert did as told. Packages fell to the ground as people stood up, the Gas Mask man went down the aisle slitting the rope that bound their wrists. Albert bent down to pick up his package, it was about four pounds and very dense, it felt like plastic but had a rubber quality to it. The package was airtight and had a grey-blue color to it. The train car's door opened and the Gas Mask man motioned everybody out. Albert jumped down and inspected his surroundings, other displaced, dirty, smelly people surrounded him, all rushing to the doors, some of them tried to break the glass on the doors. Albert saw multiple gas mask men rushing toward the crowd, guns at the ready. Shots were fired into the air by the gas mask men. When the fire subsided, people backed away from the door and put their hands up. The doors opened automatically, people poured out and rushed into the town. Albert looked upon the metropolitan skyline and walked into the Plaza. Albert sat on the sidewalk and opened his package. The scent of rubber spewed out of it, he peered in and saw a plastic I.D card, dorm keys, two denim pants, two denim shirts and a can of water. Albert removed his card and viewed the information issued to him.

The current year is 2016 and Albert has almost fully acclimated to life in City Forty Five. Albert was in better condition than most Citizens in the City, he had a decent amount of tokens and a UCH apartment. Albert was fairly content with his life, but he still felt like he was prison, and his every action was being watched. There were days when Albert would just stay in his UCH apartment, just because he didn't want to be watched by Civil Protection.

Albert was completely fed up with feeling watched, and living in fear, he decided to join the Combine Civil Authority after weeks of contemplation in order to hopefully gain a better standard of living.

Denied PK Appeals / 245's unPK appeal.
« on: May 24, 2012, 08:17:49 PM »
I understand this is not an up-PK appeal in it's truest meaning, but I don't know where else I'd put it.

Steam Name: [DG:CO] ?Bender?
Steam ID: STEAM_0:1:4293436
Character Name: C45.CCA.GRID-01.245 (This was months ago)
Admin who issued PK: Skopa (Bluff) (orders of either Rofl or Raiden, I forgot)
Reason for Un-PK: My unit was PKd months ago, in February. He was PKd (and I was blacklisted, although that may be over, I don't know) because I duped quite a few of those HL2 style walk-over-and-load ammo boxes and used them on my rebel. However, I did not use the ammunition after that, and I only ever did it once. This was literally months ago, and 245 really meant a lot to me, and I deeply regret fucking up like that. I feel I should be given the opportunity to have my unit back even though what I did was explicitly against the rules. It has been more than three months, and I believe that I have learned a serious lesson and promise I will never do anything like that ever again. Please, give me a chance to be able to play as my favorite character once more.

*EDIT* I realize blacklists are permanent, but I would deeply appreciate it if mine was removed.

In case you are wondering what happened to 245 (You probably aren't) I'd like you to know that I got into some shit, and I'll be active again in about... 300 hours or so. However, I was blacklisted so I may not be returning to 245 in the foreseeable future, but I will try and squeeze time in Clyde and Kal'Rinok. It was fun, guys, hope to see you all again soon :D

Mapping / A first attempt at mapping.
« on: March 02, 2012, 10:00:17 PM »
I have taken in interest in mapping, specifically modifiying city 8 to fit CG's needs, I am not sure if I'll do any good, or if I'll even get past starting the SDK up, this is all theoretical. Anyway, if you have any tips as to how to do it or what to do, I'd be greatly appreciative. Also, if there's anything specific you'd like to see feel free to post it. Thanks ahead, Bender. (PS: This is ALL THEORY, I am not promising a full product, or even something playable, but I am going to try.)

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Talk with Roflwaffle. (about map change)
« on: February 29, 2012, 08:56:14 PM »
I recently had a talk with Rofl about a map change. I understand that this is on some people's mind, and this post is meant to clear things up a bit. Rofl said it was unlikely, but possible, and when I asked him if he had to change it within the next 48 hours he replied with "City 18". When I asked him about city8 and city11 he said that both were too small.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Welcome to city 45, enjoy your stay
« on: February 24, 2012, 10:05:04 PM »
I don't like the map, it is a top quality map but the atmosphere just doesn't sit right with me, it's too bright and damn it I just don't like the layout. Don't get me wrong, it's a great map but I don't feel that it's aged gracefully ( it's not that old ). What are the chances of it changing within the next six months? Thanks for the replies.

Authorization(s):
Being able to brew alcoholic beverages.

Name: Borris Glasgovich
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Affiliation: None

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.
Borris Glasgovich was born in 1992, and grew up in a small town in western Russia. The town was painfully dull and had absolutely no attractions. When Borris was 12, he discovered his father did not actually have the out of town office job that he always thought he had, his "occupation" as some would call it was... much more clandestine. His father went to a cottage on the outskirts of town on almost a daily basis, there he met with local gangsters and ruffians to brew all kinds of alcohol; mostly a half assed type of vodka poorly brewed in a makeshift fermenting station, it was dirty and the house was filled with pests. His dad would then sell it to local teenagers for a small tax- free profit. Borris wanted in on the money. When Borris confronted his father about it his dad just completely blew him off and denied it, Borris assured his dad that it was safe to let him into the operation. Borris's dad was reluctant to the idea but let him accompany him to the cottage. Borris, being in his formative years picked up on how to brew drinks quickly and effectively. Borris's dad only paid him a fraction of what he made, when he felt like paying him at all. Borris soon became very confident in his abilities and began brewing his own beverages. Borris let his confidence hold the reins for just a moment and he soon found himself selling hard liquor to his local classmates. Unfortunately for Boris, one of the local school children showed up home drunk, after being questioned about it he told his mother about Borris. Borris's life was seemingly falling apart. The police took Borris and placed him in a local Orphanage and his father was arrested. That's where Borris got a taste for narcotics. At age 15, Borris began to take control of his life and run away with whatever he can carry. Borris stumbled upon a small town, this one was graced with a Train Station and various attractions. Borris made it a habbit to wander around town by day and find a cozy alley to sleep in by night. His life seemed like a downward spiral, he was soon addicted to Meth and going day by day to just scrounge up enough money to buy his Meth and food, thats when all those brewing skills came back to him. Borris spent that day scouting out a suitable abandoned building to start his operation, when he found an abandoned home to get started in. Every day, Borris spent his time walking down streets, shoplifting various things that would help him get by, Food, Water, Meds, Clothes, Weapons, Survival items, and Brewing supplies. Borris had turned the abandoned house into a brewery, and sold the alcohol to local teens and children to make profit. Borris spent the next 8 years of his life like this, going place to place, establishing breweries, stealing items, and leaving when he becomes comprimised. Thats when the 7 hour war happened, it struck Borris like a brick to the face, his lifestyle was broken and in pieces. He decided to lay low until the gunfire ceased and the fires burnt out. Seven hours he remained motionless in his basement, with not even a candle to illuminate the area. Borris heard nothing but silence when it all ended, and reluctantly got up. He slowly walked upstairs and peeked out the window, blackness, not a single streetlight or car, this was an abrupt change. Borris decided to go down to the basement and kill himself, but instead cried himself to sleep. In the morning, Borris went upstairs and looked out the same window, Buildings were destroyed and corpses lined the streets, some of them were missing limbs or burnt beyond recognition. Borris didn't know what to think, so he left, with literally nothing but the clothes on his back. Borris didn't even get across the street before a bus like vehicle stopped infront of his home, it was black and very spartan looking, the door flung open and two robotic arms shot out and grabbed Borris's arms then brought him inside the bus. It was dark and only lit by a single feint blue light in the corner of the interior. The arms wrapped him in a gauze like material and tossed him on the floor, Borris looked around and saw others wiggling in their wrappings, others were dead. The ride was about 3 or 4 hours, Borris lost track of time, The sides of the bus opened and everybody poured out onto the ground, it was a drop of about 6 feet. Borris broke his nose and began to bleed. Two large spider like automatons began sorting through the bodies for living people. The automatons then put the living ones back into the bus. Borris thought he was going to die, and began crying, his broken nose stopped bleeding but was still misshapen. Borris managed to get it back into place by bashing his face into the thigh of the poor sod below him, his nose started bleeding again. Another 2 hours went by when the bus opened again and everyone fell out, Borris was sure to land on his back this time. The spiders came by again, but these ones were different. The spiders grabbed them and put them on seperate busses, there was about three different busses. Borris lost all hope. About 3 hours later the bus opened, and everyone fell out, there was a good 50 other busses pouring people out at the same time, the spiders came by again, this time slitting everyone's wrappings and letting people move, some tried to fight back, others just lay on the ground, sobbing to themselves, others tried to run away. Borris walked through the people and ran into a trainstation. He was stopped by a soldier in a gasmask, Borris was put into a headlock and tossed into a train, there were other people on the same train. Borris tried to communicate with them but none of them spoke the same language. Borris sat down when a speaker came on. It went through multiple languages with the same message, "All citizens sit down, and wait for an attendant." Everyone was compliant. The message looped itself for about an hour. A soldier opened the door and walked down the aisle, handing everyone a grey airtight package, each one said "OPEN" on the top of it, Borris opened it, and it revealed many contents, among them was a denim jumpsuit, a metal card with some numbers on it, a can of food and a blue can of water. Borris took the card out and looked at it, it was solid metal and said "CID#: 93819" and on the back it said "ALL CITIZENS ARE TO CARRY AT ALL TIMES OR FACE PUNISHMENT" Borris slipped it in his pocket and held onto the plastic package like it was his very life. The train stopped, and the doors opened, everyone rushed out. Borris ran down the trainstation steps like a madman when he stopped in his tracks, A massive navy blue skyscraper was the most dominant feature of the skyline, it had seemingly no features and was very monolithic in design, and went above the clouds. Borris was escorted to an apartment building and was forced to give his name and present his CID card. Borris was escorted into a very barren apartment room, it had just a stove, sink and toilet, a matress was in the corner under a broken window. Borris accepted this new life over time and learned to adapt to a life of constant emotional distress.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?
Perks
Ability to brew alcoholic beverages.

Defects
Addicted to Narcotics, paracetmatol would work as an IC suppliment.
Constantly blowing his money on as much Paracetmatol as he can get.
Often feels weak and sickly due to constant drug use, possible withdrawal.

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
Sell booze.
Be addicted to paracetmatol, although I'd have a slow, steady income source, I would constantly find myself low on money because of my addiction.

Will anyone else need these auths? (If so, list OOC and IC name(s))
No.

Which server does this apply for?
City

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Question about flags.
« on: February 18, 2012, 06:57:45 PM »
So, I haven't heard about any way to apply for a flag, but I know there are two ways to get my desired flag, the lowercase v flag, more commonly known as the Light Black Market flag. I have a legitimate backstory that would allow me to brew alcoholic beverages, and I feel that it should be allowed to apply for LBM flags. Anyway, my question is, is there any other way besides RP or Donation to obtain v flags? Thanks ahead.

Media / Great music for people who like Indie/Alternative
« on: January 05, 2012, 08:48:48 PM »
Old Death Cab for Cutie. In particular their albums "Something about airplanes" and "You can play these songs with chords". If you appreciate good indie/alternative rock music, you should love it.

Some Modest Mouse. When I say some, I mean some. I find a lot of their newer music lacking somewhat, but their album "This is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about" is great, it blew me away.

That's just my opinion, if you have any other bands/albums you would like to share please do.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / 2017/ Happy new year city45
« on: January 04, 2012, 05:36:40 PM »
Since it's the new year and all, the year ingame should advance to 2017. It would make the server feel a bit more dynamic. Just a suggesstion.

The title says it all, I can connect but it is stuck at "Please wait while server config is being retrived" I can still hear the ambient noise and other noise, but it will not proceed. Is it a server side issue or is it something on my part? Any advice is appreciated.
