1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Metropolice Force and what lead your character to do so.
Leonard wishes to join the Metropolice Force for a variety of reasons. He does not want to join the CCA because he necessarily agrees with the ideals of the Universal Union, nor does he have any particular loyalties to them. He wishes to join the CCA to escape his rather boring and oppressive life as a citizen; it simply doesn't provide him with the outlets of creativity and tinkering that he once had as a research scientist in MIT. In addition to this -- whilst he doesn't fanatically support the Universal Union, as previously stated -- he does respect their superior technology and wishes for a chance to tinker with it. In extension; he is logical, he knows that the Universal Union cannot be defeated by the malnourished, surviving citizens of Earth. This leads to a "if you can't beat them, join them" situation in Leonard's mind.

Leonard also wishes to regain his lost social status. He is used to being in the upper section of the society, and it pains his pride and ambition to see himself being degraded to the bottom of the social hierarchy.

Finally, Leonard wishes to find entertainment in this rather cruel, dark world dominated by propaganda and the very well known Breencasts. He is prone to surrounding himself with work. The life of a citizen does not really provide him with that, which further leads him to his interest in the CCA.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
Leonard is a rather complicated individual. He is slightly narcissistic, arrogant and aloof; a result of his upper-middle class upbringing and his education at the prestigious Harrow School. In addition to this, he is rather sarcastic and has a cynical outlook on life, which drives him to surround himself with work - a result of his minor impulse control disorder. However, he is also very intelligent, well-spoken (charismatic, perhaps) and has received some of the best education that money can buy: five years at the Harrow School, a BSc in Computer Science from Cambridge, and a degree in electrical engineering from the MIT. He can be kind, gentle and caring, if he genuinely cares for the person. In addition to this, he is very analytical, logical and has an eye for details; this makes him very much of a perfectionist.
 

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
As a previous member of the CCA, I generally know what to expect. I'm expecting it to be challenging, in some ways, and rewarding in others. I have grown a lot in the three years since my first unit, and I believe that (for myself) it'll be more about the actual roleplay and immersion, rather than simply trying to move up the ranks. I'm hoping to enjoy my time this time.

Leonard himself knows what's facing him; he has seen what the CCA does and is aware of their actual purpose. Leonard is hoping to become a part of the CCA's mechanical division due to his own interest in engineering and computer science, and is hoping to have the chance to tinker with the UU's technology.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
Leonard is first and foremost a logical person; he is not afraid to speak up and point things out, although he attempts to restrain himself - especially when talking to individuals deemed to be superior to him.
He was born in the middle of 1987 to upper-middle class parents; both of whom were professionals. His father was the CEO of a large construction company, whilst his mother sat on the board of directors of a privately-owned hospital. His upper-middle class background allowed him to live a rather comfortable lifestyle, at the expense of his parents, whom he barely saw. The lack of parental support and love would later reflect on his future personality.

At the age of thirteen, he was sent to the prestigious Harrow School - one of the original seven "public schools", located in the north-west of London. During his stay there, he excelled in a variety of subjects, especially mathematics, physics, English and Information Technology. The next five years were relatively uneventful; he graduated from Harrow's sixth form with two A*'s and an A in Mathematics, Physics and Economics. His experiences at the Harrow School had a profound effect on him; it turned him into a well-spoken and slightly arrogant individual. With that, he applied for a place in the University of Cambridge, and was soon accepted. He spent the next three years working towards his BSc in Computer Science.

His parents continued to support him financially during this period. Under the mentorship of an experienced computer scientist and electrical engineer, he managed to secure himself a place in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. There, he studied electrical engineering for three years, whilst working part-time in the Institute's research department. After graduating with honours, he was offered a full-time position at the Institute - which he couldn't turn down.

Of course, this wouldn't last for very long. The first reports of the so-called "portal storms" astonished Leonard; he simply couldn't believe that such things were happening. That is until an encounter with the hostile wildlife emerging from these portal storms. His life was turned upside down, but Leonard adapted; he assumed that there was a bigger player, bigger than humanity perhaps.  His assumption soon proved correct, after the east coast of United States was invaded by an unstoppable union of synthetic aliens. The war ended within a few hours in the United States, and the whole world was conquered within seven. Leonard had to adapt.

He was relocated to what he assumed to be Europe. The city itself bore the name of 'City 18', and it was basically a large city that was surrounded by UU-manufactured walls. During the next few months, he distanced himself from the civilian populace and spent his time assisting the Civil Authority and Civil Workers'  Union in matters ranging from maintenance to advanced engineering. His desire to advance and progress further up the social hierarchy - to his status at birth, - as well as his need to tinker with technology, led him to seriously consider the CCA.

I had two CCA characters here; an 02 unit, 713, who I believe was PK'ed, and an 04 unit - 212, who was removed due to inactivity.

Gay. "Failed to create D3D device." Any suggestions? I've tried typing the -dxlevel 80 into the launch properties, which worked, but now it's being gay again.
