Because they're using humanity as slaves, both labour wise and military wise.

Fair enough, it seems you have bested me. But I still suspect that it's possible they are really trying to protect us, just in a way we don't understand.

I think not, remember they way they treat humanity? And, their blunt actions would be supported by a blunt personality. A blunt personality would tell us why we're being treated the way we're being treated. If that made sense. :3

They may treat us poorly but they don't kill all of us.
Why would they waste the resources (which they are trying to gather and save) to keep us alive then? If they took us over in 7 hours they could've easily killed off the species.

On a somewhat related note, what do you guys think of the theory that The Combine truly believe they are helping and saving humanity?

Maybe The Combine are only trying to protect us from G-man and his cohorts.

Support & Help / Re: I need photoshop!

I want to get photoshop but I want it for FREE. Since there are so many people here that have got it illegally, then I should do the same too. I know this will bring me harsh problems but I need photoshop for many reasons. Any links or downloads recommended? If so, can you please share it?

Don't be a dick-face and get it for free, just use GIMP it might not have ALL the features but it does me rather well, and it's free!

I've been getting this problem lately too. Here are some things that (I think) worked to fix it:
1.Turn on another steam game for a few minutes than retry the one that was unavailable.
2. Log out and then log back in.
3. Restart Steam.
4. Restart your computer.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Re: Anyone ever had these sounds?
« on: July 14, 2012, 09:49:15 PM »
I get these sounds like 1/3 times I play on HL2RP. I actually got them once in Single-Player G-mod too. I'm gonna agree and say something installed wrong, but I haven't heard these in a while and I haven't changed anything in the game.

blame gman

The problem with that is that it seems like G-man is also just working for the highest bidder...

General Discussion / Half-Life Thoughts
« on: July 14, 2012, 09:30:52 PM »
Hey everybody, I was thinking about the Half-life series and I wanted to get everyone's opinions on some things:

Since the Combine were aware of Xen and Nihilanth, and that the Combine would likely have invaded (atleast to the Xen to get rid of Nihilanth) regardless of what Gordon did. Than do you think that had Gordon not killed countless special ops forces, and alien forces that the Combine could've been repelled?
The Combine would presumably have to defeat the inhabitants of Xen first and then, later, travel to Earth. If this was the case, I am sure that the hundreds of Spec-ops, assassins, helicopters, and tanks would've been put to good use defending earth. Also, the hundreds (thousands?) of Xen forces on earth and Xen would probably fight back against the Combine. So isn't it really all Gordon's fault?

Also, isn't it possible that the Combine would have defeated the inhabitants of Xen, and therefore closed the rift themselves? This would effectively remove humans from the story.

Anyway, short version is, is Freeman hadn't killed a ton of both alien and human soldiers would the Combine (assuming they would've invaded anyway) have been repelled or slowed?

Also, in the end of Half-Life, Nihilanth talks to Freeman. Couldn't they have reached an agreement in order to he fight the Combine, who were already and enemy of the inhabitants of Xen?

I feel like everything is Gordon's fault now....

What do you think?

Events / Re: [Suggestion] Forced into Hiding

OK so to sum it up,
A radioactive fog overtakes the city which forces all citizens and CCA underground. While underground the citizens and CCA have to cope with the possibility of infection; at the same time every rank in the combine can be assigned different tasks (i.e. Keeping the peace, administering meds, fighting off infected civies, setting up lights and equipment, etc.)

How do we make this more official?

PS.
Makeshift lights and beds would make the sewers really cool looking for an RP session.

As an extension of the idea, I think that it would be interesting to see the CCA somewhat "fearful" of what's above ground. It might create a new and interesting dynamic between the citizens and the CCA. Also, I would say the threat would have to be a passing, sort of passive danger. Like a dust or chemical cloud. This way the CCA can focus on the citizens, rather than some sort of violent threat.

Events / [Suggestion] Forced into Hiding

Hey Everybody,
I was thinking it would be amazing to have an event where the CCA has to herd and force all citizens into the sewers. This could occur due to some sort of natural, rebel, or other event happening above ground. The point is that it would be incredibly dark and tense with the citizens all sitting in the black and dim red waters while the CCA stand by holding the peace. This event could last just a few hours, but it would certainly be interesting. Any non CCA on the surface would be killed.

Just an off-beat idea I had, don't know how/if it would work.
