IC Chat / Your Voice of Freedom
« on: January 24, 2012, 02:23:02 PM »
Out of Character for OOC:
[/color] This is an idea me and a friend of mine had for us to do while we were not busy handing hungry citizens clean supplements. Could turn out to be a great IC element, but could use opinions. This idea is borrowed from Homeworld, where a resistance radio is broadcasting during the Korean occupation. We've turned it into a small 2 or 3 person broadcast. They usually last for a few minutes, and occur several times during a day as a podcast reporting news.

*Notes are placed neatly on several walls around district 6. It is apparent that these notes haven't been around long as they are unaffected by rain or wind. The notes read: Radio 136.4 - Your voice of freedom"

Podcast #1 24/01/2016 (This event happened around 19:15 in-game GMT +1)
Stephen Francis radios in "*The static of the frequency can be heard fading as a microphone is adjusted.*"
Stephen Francis radios in "Let's see how this works. *Tapping noises*"
Stephen Francis radios in "Ah. Citizens of our lovely city 45, welcome to the first podcast of your Voice of Freedom."
Stephen Francis radios in "You can call me The Fox, and with me here I have The Badger."
Stanislav Novakovsky radios in "Hello, everyone."
Stephen Francis radios in "We'll be your hosts for this lovely evening, as the city is currently rushing in activity outside our window."
Stephen Francis radios in "Starting right off the bat with some news, Nikolae Shivonski has been reported arrested."
Stephen Francis radios in "According to our sources, the man was caught selling illegal medication to ill citizens in the outer areas of D1."
Stephen Francis radios in "Apparently, helping ill people is a crime. Badger, thoughts on that?"
Stanislav Novakovsky radios in "Yeah, I heard he was reported by a fellow citizen to add to that."
Stephen Francis radios in "Mm, mm."
Stanislav Novakovsky radios in "If we can't trust each other, who can we trust?"
Stephen Francis radios in "Exactly, just my opinion on the matter."
Stephen Francis radios in "What exactly does this gesture mean? Are we losing our brotherly grasp as a race?"
Stanislav Novakovsky radios in "I believe so Fox, people are starting to care more about their own gains than the well-being of fellow citizens."
Stephen Francis radios in "What is the world coming to, really? I'm not talking about the Union, I'm talking about the consequences."
Stephen Francis radios in "The consequences on sense of belonging as a race."
Stanislav Novakovsky radios in "Yeah."
Stephen Francis radios in "These are grim times, my friends. I implore you to grab a tight hold of your brothers and sisters hands and re-establish the purity of human respect and brotherhood.
Stanislav Novakovsky radios in "Absolutely, this isn't the time to lose faith in humanity."
Stephen Francis radios in "The man is right, this isn't the time to lose hope. Our sources are telling us that the opposition is still standing strong, with a solid foothold of areas of our mutual home. Areas that the opposition control are as of recently district 9, 15, 16 and parts of district 20 and 6."
Stanislav Novakovsky radios in "Most certainly, which also brings me to remind my friend The Fox about Stephen Kane."
Stephen Francis radios in "Absolutely, great thing that you mentioned it. As some of you may have heard, rumors are floating around about Stephen Kanes arrest and amputation. Our sources confirm that all these rumors are incorrect and that Kane is in fact alive and well. He was last seen leaving the cities boundaries, heading for the nearby outskirts. Any further information can't be disclosed on this channel unfortunately, as the wrong people may be listening in."
Stanislav Novakovsky radios in "Definitely. I'm sure he's strong as ever, but we can assure you that he is not the only one who has decided to take up arms and resist. The opposition is growing by the day, and the signs are becoming more and more apparent in most parts of the city."
Stephen Francis radios in "Mm. And to another piece of news we received just hours ago quite related to this; Apparently a loyalist was tied up and stripped of his CWU belongings in a room in the UCH of D1! *Laughter can be heard from both men*"
Stephen Francis radios in "That is absolutely insane! Someone is brave enough to take up arms on the Union supporters in the Union controlled districts of the city? Ladies and gentlemen, the opposition is truly growing bolder and stronger if they dare raid the UCH during daytime! Badger, what is your first reaction upon hearing this story?"
Stanislav Novakovsky radios in "Heh, it's playing with fire, even though whoever did this is true resistance legend. To go to these extremes to harass the Union is an achievement in itself. I'm just curious to see what the opposition will get up to next, seeing as this is a quite a clear declaration of open war."
Stephen Francis radios in "Certainly, we'll see where it leads. In any case ladies and gentlemen; those are the news for this evening and you're listening to your Voice of Freedom. Stay strong, stay vigilant and stay tuned for upcoming broadcasts. Fox out. *A crackling noise can be heard for a short moment as a microphone is turned off, leaving the frequency in complete silence.*"

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / The shiv problem
« on: January 23, 2012, 04:40:52 PM »
Now this is going to be a bit of a short post, but still highly relevant.

During my CCA roleplay downtime, I've hopped on my citizen character with which I've spent most of my time in D6 or D2. I don't generally encounter much people there, but when I do it's generally the same story.

*/me grabs a "shiv/metal thing/sharp object/broken glass/knife" from his ASS, and keeps it hidden*

Come the fuck on?! Surely not everyone has roleplayed to get one of these? And even less so, surely not everyone is out to harm the first best citizen the find in D6?

This is a bloody annoying problem, and I don't feel that I can achieve anything out of roleplaying with these pre-made wannabe badass scenarios. Now this isn't because I'm afraid to lose, because I happen to be validly armed. Have you recently seen Stephen Francis robbing a citizen? No, because he believes in citizen solidarity and that we should as a race stick together and help each other with whatever resources or supplies we can. Now I'm sure that there's one or two crazy sons of bitches that have no regard for humanity at all, but fucking everyone? Come on..

Much love from the people who actually GIVE A FUCK about other citizens...

Nicole Slater's Civil Authority Application

OOC Name: Adrian (SF: armymen2)

IC Character Name: Nicole Slater

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.
(This is purposely an extension to the text in the question "Provide a back-story". If this explanation for her reasoning and thoughts is insufficient to take an appropriate decision, feel free to look at the details provided in the other question.)

The reasons for Nicole shower her interest in the Union are simple; Stability and loyalty. Having had both turbulent and good experiences with the Union, she knows the value of stability and safety. She knows how much easier it is to serve than to resist, and reasons validly by making the more comfortable decision.

Being a loyalist for several years she believe she can correctly anticipate the path of personal development that lies before her with this possibility for a future. Serving the people is undeniably her forte, serving as a paramedic before the portal storm and a loyalist afterwards.

Her trust growing increasingly strong with the Union, cleaning the streets and statues of the city hardly suffice as serving a great faction. Finding herself disciplined and mentally resilient enough to do the job correctly, there are little to no arguments that remain to convince her from refraining to serve. To her, it is in fact the ultimate symbol of what it means to be a loyalist. It is her final destination as a loyalist, but only the beginning of an uncertain, but giving career. Advancement and self-challenge is around the corner and she is not interested in turning such an opportunity down. Unlike cleaning, working with disciplined methods in a team can be surprisingly intellectually stimulating. Coming to the conclusion that cleaning isn't stimulating enough, Nicole takes a decision to change her way of life for a long time to come.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
Nicole Slater is a socially forward and quite inspired person. She never takes a tasks lightly and follows her experience solely, making spontaneous decisions a non-existent entity. She prefers following a disciplined lifestyle and makes little time for breaking her schedule unless necessary. In addition to her disciplined methods, her stable mindset makes her a tactician to be reckoned with, and a trustworthy team-member.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
I'm expecting nothing more than I've ever expected from Civil Authority roleplay on any server. I've been through Shh, TnB and a handful additional servers to experience an enlightening variety of the different roleplay styles, but from what I've gathered, CG is clearly more strict and disciplined in their ways with the Civil Authority.

Definitely looking forward to experiencing the stricter part of half-life 2 roleplay again, without deducting from the player-count. Far too many servers that I used to play on that had an unusually strict Union would be so heavily under-populated that it wasn't worth the high effort to try to join the Union.

In addition, roleplay is always roleplay, and I'm not expecting to change much else than my daily choirs from cleaning the plaza to Civil Protection unit duties. But as far as I am concerned, that change is more than sufficient.

Nicole's expectations aren't far different, looking forward to serving the very men that has kept her safe and sound during recent, troublesome times. It's a chance for her to return the favor of their hospitality while challenging her own mental and physical capacities in a constantly fluxing career. Her average day being completely different she undoubtedly looks forward to the change of atmosphere and variety in work-tasks.

Additionally, she is expecting a change in form of social communication. While cleaning the streets of the city plaza, she can hardly make time for communication with other Union-loyal citizens, and being introduced into a team-based environment is an incredible advancement in her quality of life.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
Nicole was born on December 2nd of 1990, being her parents second child but first daughter. She went through a turbulent childhood caused by rioting and fighting during times of national British instability.

As she grew older, she went through her education normally, finishing high-school at the age of 15 and college at the age of 18. Most of her friends at the time moved onto University within less than a year, studying everything from Medicine to Engineering. Nicole herself decided to invest into a career of paramedical sciences, and not more than one and a half year later she was to be found competing on the paramedical market.

When the portal storm struck, it struck Nicole unexpectedly and hard. Her parents were both killed in the demolishing of their apartment, and her brother went missing and has not made contact with her since. But there was no time to mourn the recent happenings as staying alive was now a higher priority.

Her first relocation happened only months after the invasion, and transferred her to the grand citizen center of City 18. There she spent countless of hours fighting for her life in the godforsaken slums of what used to be a vivid city. Spending time in the shadier parts of the city laid way for shadier people to enter into her life and affecting her state of mind entirely. Involved in a CCA-rejected business she learnt lessons that couldn't have been taught elsewhere about survival, friendship and deceit.

Following the events that lead to the capture and amputation of what had been her closest friends and business partners, she took a leap of faith from one risky business to another; She put her trust in the Union. Her previously sworn enemy was now responsible for her well-being, as opposed to being responsible for destroying her business and bringing her head back to the nexus on a stick. The leap was inevitably a tough one to make, but over the following months she came to acceptance with the terms the switch had given her. Daily rations, work and tokens turned out to be a much more luxurious life than she had anticipated. She was no longer fighting for survival, or for food or water, and learnt to find joy in the existence of the life that belonged to her.

During later years she was subject to a secondary relocation to the infamous City 45. A transfer which progressed smoothly, likely due to a combination of luck and Nicoles newly acquired loyalist status. Sadly enough her loyalist status dissolved the minute the stepped onto the hard concrete belonging to City 45, and she spent months reinstating it for the sake of her previous life of ease.

Seeing things from a different perspective after arriving to the new city, she decides to apply to the Union for a working position.

It may seem quite standard today, but it was magic the first time.
