1. You cannot be in two places at once.
eg. talking in the bonfire thread while invading a dungeon
2. You cannot have any affiliation with any canon character unless they're required for your covenant.
eg. having greeted the princess and being inducted into her covenant would be required for the Princess's Guard covenant.
3. Ensure your stats fit the gear you have chosen. (SL 50).
eg. wielding a greatsword while having a dex build.

Dark Souls Roleplay / The Bonfire - Meeting Grounds
« on: March 21, 2014, 04:24:23 AM »

The Bonfire

This bonfire seems to be quite the gathering place for the undead whom have yet to hollow, many see this place as a beacon of hope due to the incredibly kindled fire it offers for all whom it draws near.
Those who stay here to rest often trade stories, exchange folk lore of their home lands or even adventure together.

Suggestions / dark souls rp board
« on: March 08, 2014, 01:01:10 AM »
i think it would be fun due to the covenant affilations, interaction and the diverse crowd of dark souls
for example people getting invaded, discussing philosophy at the bonfires or sharing tales
think it would be interesting as you're part of the lore instead of being the chosen undead

Suggestions / ota roster over elite units
« on: January 10, 2014, 03:18:21 AM »
I've been seeing talk of elite units and I think it's stupid as all you really need to run any operation in the city is around 3 emotionless ota units that have no relation to any characters at all. An elite unit will just become a glorified rank that someone will reach so he can go on raids. An OTA roster of 3-5 people is efficient and all that is really needed. Basically just a Vanguard squad equivilant to the half the player base of  the one ozjackal had controlled, it's already impossible for ota to lose.

e.g

<:: Threat Containment and Asset Protection ::>
x - UU.OTA.VANGUARD-E.00000 - Squad Commander

x - UU.OTA.VANGUARD-E.00000

x - UU.OTA.VANGUARD.00000
x - UU.OTA.VANGUARD.00000

An old functioning computer with appropriate hardware.

A doctorate (PhD.) in computer science.

Name: Dr. Edwin Sinclair
Age: 33
Gender: Male

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.
Edwin was born and raised in Colorado, living in an established Western society. He lived in a regular house on a street, though it is irrelevant as he spent most of his time on his computer at home, searching for information to quench his everlasting thirst for knowledge. Due to this, Edwin spent a quite boring life, being the kid you would pick on at school, though he did not care as he would go home and go on his computer his parents had purchased for him.

His parents were both educated, his father being regularly working away as a supervisor in multiple engineering projects and his mother working part time as a shopkeeper. Though not having to work due to how much his father’s extensive working racks in. His mother chose to work to show she could hold her own in this society without her husband, Edwin always finding this quite odd when he figured it out. Edwin, due to having no social life, dedicated his life to his school work and any that piqued his interest that he had found on the internet, his schooling career being quite impressive as a child. Throughout high school, his best subjects were mathematics and science, the ones that interested him most. Eventually, he was offered a scholarship to University as he had been noticed throughout his schooling as an exceptional student, a large grin on his face that seemed to last for years, especially when he told his parents.

Edwin had decided to keep his aim set to computing, spending most of his years in school with people somewhat like him, he found it very easy to fit in with his peers who were also taking his courses. Studying hard, extremely happy with the fact he could spend the next few years doing what he loved, spending his free time discovering how other electronics work as a hobby, though nothing major. Eventually Edwin had finished his course and even managed to disprove a theory and earned himself his PhD through being nurtured by his professors. Though it was time to say goodbye, he would never forget the time he spent with his professors and peers. He decided to take a break from his hard work and have a relaxing gap year, though to his dismay the Combine invasion had begun.

Edwin spent most of his time reminiscing his time in his university, thinking of when he put his blue hat on and was greeted by a scroll, proof of his achievement in his favourite area, the times he had spent banging his head onto a wall, trying to figure out what went wrong or just funny events that had happened in or outside the classroom in his time on campus, he wandered where he would of went if the Combine had not invaded, would he be a professor or a freelance parts builder? Would that sustain his income? Would he be doing what he loved or would he be stuck in a lame job? Edwin dreams and aspirations had gone to dust, knowing that the Combine had no intention of allowing humans to get a hold of what he loved, this made him dislike them on first impression, the oppression making him dislike them even more. Them being around, made it so he was untouchable at the plaza if he stayed out of the Metro Police and the other citizens ways, though escaping to the slums to escape oppression was always nice, if he watched himself.

Edwin’s train had dropped off into the city, being assigned an apartment with a man he had no interest in, most of his days were dull, full of small talk and his most exciting endeavour was exploring the slums when he felt none of the 'thugs' were around to give him a hard time, like a high school kid hiding from bullies in the playground. Often spending most of him time lying on his apartment couch, dazed and hungry, staring at a box of empty noodles with a bit of left overs on the bottom with some yellow liquid in the corner, small
Like everyone else, Edwin was relocated into a City, not being able to make it out of the Combines grasp. He was relocated to the City and was adapted to a normal life, until he had met an old friend, well not really a friend, but they don't really have any choice with the new regime. It seems he had adapted better than Edwin, he also seemed happy to see him, the man who had once picked on him, noticed Edwin’s sadness and how utter bored he was  with having nothing to do and offered him a proposition, a computer for the right price. Edwin's eyes lit up, he ran to his apartment and conjured up everything he owned.

Edwin had forgotten about the deal at this time as he had not spoken with his old 'friend' in some time, he just lived his life wandering in and out of the slums, looking for places of solitude, eventually bringing himself to crawling through vents, falling into a small room with a pool of water.
The two inhabitants weren't too happy with Edwins arrival, he began to shake and shiver as the vortigaunt wrapped his claws around his neck, forcing him to sit on a seat near a table full of bolts and other mechanical resources. This vortigaunt seemed to want Edwin dead, whereas the the female companion managed to talk him out of it, while he was burning a hole in the middle of Edwin's citizen uniform. During the scare tactics, Edwin had let out the fact he was getting a computer sooner or later and his qualifications. The vortigaunt was obviously interested after pleading from the female, requesting its arrival with him or death. Edwin now had a mission, obviously fearing an alien would kill him over the fact he found his home, though he felt for once he had belonged, the lab coat wearing vort and a mechanic, not a bad find.

He then pleaded the old bully, feeling sorry for Edwin, he finally cracked, he gave Edwin a time and date to meet up which was months away from now, Edwin then spent most nights dreaming of a sleek desktop tower with a black thin monitor. Being unable to sleep at night became a major problem, though he was used to this, the lack of food often waking him up with his stomach growling, it was hard to find takeout or fruit to satisfy his hunger. During the interval, Edwin ran errands for the pair, the vort grew tired of waiting for the computer but did not mind Edwin as an asset, seeing as he was the reason she had located a new base after telling her about two  vending machines in great condition.

To his dismay, once they met, he was greeted with a old white box of a screen and parts that would pass off as working, but weren't up to his standards, an old white tower, a ball mouse and a white chunky keyboard. Edwin sighed, though still ecstatic, he was promised a computer and a computer is what he got. Edwin, slowly began to move the parts one by one into his new home in a brown duffle bag over his shoulder, avoiding water damage for his most precious possession, first the hard drive, the monitor, then the keyboard and mouse. Keeping to edges whenever possible and taking the routes with the least water after circling the area multiple times to ensure minimal harm. Once Edwin had set the computer up, the vort seemed somewhat impressed, Edwin actually pulled  it off after all.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?
Perks
A computer which can be used as a database of information and his feats as he has time on his hands in the slums.
His knowledge can be used to aid inventors, if befriended.
The knowledge can make him a large asset if computers are involved in maintainence and use.

Defects
If people find out he has a computer, they may want it.
Living in the slums as a physically weak and wimpy man is not exactly easy.
Edwin is quite wimpy due to his extensive studying and lifestyle. Being quite submissive.
He would need to find a power supply for his computer.
His knowledge is not very useful without the needed machinery.

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
I'm honestly just going to passive RP and collaborate with other people that may need my characters aid in the city.
The reason I chose city was there is not many 'eggheads' on city and it's where I mainly play.
Most of my characters have had action roles and were mostly action RP based, I want to change this vicious cycle with this character, a breath of fresh air to my HL2RP experience on CG.
I have also met up with some other inventors and I am looking forward to some great passiveRP if this works out.

When people know they're going to die, just to be spiteful, they often eat up all their ammo or useables. I think this is unfair as it makes admins have to go through multiple procedures just to retrieve the ammunition the players should already have had. I know multiple players going through this right now and it really isn't fair.

Discuss.

Write a detailed in-canon back-story how your character obtained these authorizations.
Grigor as a young child resided in a cabin with a large plot of forestry around him. Due to his rather secluded childhood his father naturally became his role model. His father happened to be a huntsman who used his wit and raw skill to outmatch any game that happened to be living in the area. His father - being the source of food and income alone - often required his son Grigor to assist him in small things; such as moving fire wood or sharpening his hatchets.
As a result Grigor frequently had spare time and as such he decided to follow in his fathers footsteps. This ranked from tinkering with his supplies seeing how they work and learning how to assemble traps under his father’s guidance.
Grigor, having quite the spare time, decided to pursue what his father does, tinkering with his supplies, seeing how they work. His father noticed his son's fascination, though knowing he could not hold a rifle, he could do the second best thing, trap making.
Grigor's father showed him some of the basic traps, they wouldn't fool anyone, but they gave Grigor the basic idea. Grigor was overjoyed, often setting pitfalls around the cabin with leaves on top of them, boxes with bait inside and many other things a sentient being would laugh at if made to ensnare himself unless he didn't see them coming.
Through trial and error, Grigor had learned some valuable lessons when it came to his traps, asking his father for some more advanced lessons in order to quench his hunger for knowledge as if it was sustenance. His father nodded, though this time the traps weren't exactly made by himself, his father passed him a cage, a sliding pan and some fish wire, telling him to do him proud.
Through time, Grigor had figured a system, these traps were enough to catch a small mammal, the joy on his face when he showed his father the capturing of a small bird, a large grin that seemed to last for hours. Grigor had caught multiple birds and small mammals.
Eventually came a time where Grigor's father did not have the time to create traps, the use of his rifle proving more efficient, thus he instructed his son, whom at this age could hold his own, snares, the ability to snare an animal or creature, with the use of wood, sticks and rope. The principals Grigor had learned with pressure, wiring and many other factors had came into play though he was no longer playing around, he could make this a profession. After tinkering with the blue print his father had gave him, he had figured it out.
Grigor placed it where instructed, he would often watch it for hours on end, wanting to see the results of his trap. Once a deer approached, but the trap seemed to not work as planned, Grigor being disappointed went back to the basics of his trap, asking his father what went wrong. After a while Grigor had came to realization that the rope he was using wasn't reliable, thus the deer was able to pull his trap apart, rejoiced, he decided to use what supplies his father used to use, perfecting his 'skill'.
Through Grigor's persistence, he managed to ensnare a deer, but a problem had arisen, how could he finish the deer off? He had never thought of this, luckily, he father had been with him at the time, helping him set it up perfectly, as he didn't want to fail again. His father smirked, hanging him a bow, knowing he was too young to hold a rifle steadily or to control the knock back, reached into his duffle bag, removing a bow with the odd arrow inside. Grigor took the bow, shooting it at the ground a few times, getting used to the craft.
By this time the adolescent deer had given up, lying down. Grigor aimed at the deer, directly at the neck. Grigor simply aimed, being unskilled at this made him nervous, after a few minutes, he finally fired, pulling the bow string far back before letting go, piercing the Deer neck, he then stomped on the deer head to confirm his death, he went ecstatic, realizing he had just brought food to his household. As Grigor grew up, he learned other basic traps, such as trip wires with cans at the end to alert all the way too bigger cages designed to bait in inexperienced deer.
Grigor had now also decided to use his bow as his weapon of choice as he grew up, following the rule of aiming for the neck, spare pieces of circular wood his father had cut were used for aiming his bow. Though Grigor's aim wasn't perfect it was competent enough for him to hold his own. Though as he came of the right age, his father had given him a hunting rifle, he began to use that to finish the animals off, though he didn't shoot in the neck anymore, the gun being strong enough to kill the deer via the head.
Grigor also came across the same his father had, there was no need to snare the deer now that he could simply shoot them, he continued to trap though, as a hobby as he put time into learning to shoot with a rifle.
Eventually, Grigor had also proven competent with the rifle, though he wasn't the best shot around, he could hold his own. Still living in the Cabin with his father, Grigor began to take over his father's role as he grew old, caring for his role model.
This didn't stop his father from passing tricks of the trade, his father became what was a grizzled war veteran is to a man serving. What came with trapping came hunting, what came with hunting came the ability to use a rifle.
Eventually the Combine had came, Grigor residing in the Cabin before realizing it was no longer safe, his father, being of old age realized whatever is "hunting" them, he was too old to escape from, he gripped his rifle, instructing his son to take supplies and then leave. That was last time he saw his father.
Through the loss of his father, Grigor had became bitter and cold, living in isolation other than trading goods had left Grigor with only himself, venturing the landscape. The skills he was taught saving his life multiple times. Through time, he eventually made it to the Romanian Mountains, a sign of life, his diet consisting of meat, his lack of ammo, the fact his weapon he had threw away had grew unusable from constant use with no proper cleaning and just rope, sticks, a bow and arrow was not going to keep him alive forever, so he wandered inside.
His persistence in watching his traps warrants himself a title - 'Watcher'.

What will these authorizations give your character in regards to perks or defects?

Perks
The ability to assemble traps.
The ability to disable a creature/animal.
Basic firearm knowledge and skill.
A bow with arrows and quiver with a variety of tactics/skills.
Can be used as self defence or to hunt animals, this also may teach him some aspects of a crossbow, it's counterpart, though not many.

Defects
No experience cleaning or maintaining a firearm.
The traps were designed for animals, a human could easily cut it off his leg with snares, though trip wires may be effective
His constant use of this skill set has left him to become a shy person/loner - socially isolated from others.
Although he knows how to use firearms, this does not mean he is safe with it - He could easily injure himself whilst holstering it.
A bow and quiver are not very effective against human beings at close range, or extreme distances, this can serve as a defect in the sense of the characters lack of accuracy and aim with the said bow and quiver.

What do you plan to do with these perks/defects?
I am planning on using the traps as a defense system for anywhere I occupy e.g snares and tripwires and the bow as self defense. I am unsure how to mark traps though. I would also like to spice up Outlands RP as I do not wish to be a typical White Knight that hangs around Belles or a black knight that just starts fights at the bar.
