Zac Hayes's Civil Authority Application

IC Character Name: Zac Hayes

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.
After many a night of clutching his stomach in the corner, bones quivering every few seconds as an unforgiving breeze seeps through his unhinged door, Zac has decided that enough is enough. He has long since come to terms with the fact that Humanity will not succeed, at least, not in their sense of the word. Humanity has teetered on the brink of destruction since the 20th century, but this is not his doing, why should he be treated as part of the problem? No. He will surely serve better where he can help the exterminators cull parasites.

And certainly, the longer he can stave off his own self-destruction, the better. In a world of anonymity, the CCA, morals are no longer a factor he or any other unit would care for. Living in a different world, occupied Earth, requires a different Mindset, and this is a mindset Hayes is adjusting to. No longer embracing and affectionate, the CCA is but a haven for the colder, emptier person he has now become.

And at the end of the day, Hayes has always enjoyed a bit of authority. Being able to see above the heads of his peers and force his will upon him. He feels this such opportunity will only serve to fuel his own sense of self-importance. Luckily, his power-lust has never been detrimental to his professionalism nor his conduct. Rather, it pushes him to strive, to ascend his fellows and to succeed his officials.  Calculated and quick-thinking, Hayes relies on his intelligence and analytic skills to pull him through, leaving his average body strength and physique as a last resort. He feels the CCA will embrace these talents and that his large frame will compliment his fear factor.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
I've had lots of experience with CG's CCA in the past and I except now will be no more different bar my application of knowledge and experience. Certainly now, I plan to flesh out my character even further and build better relationships with other units.
I feel my experience with my own community has really built up my ability to interact with the players of any faction on a relevant and meaningful basis.
I'd also wager that my knowledge of the Half-Life canon goes above and beyond that of anyone in the community. When I ran a community, I put many hours into studying areas of the game and any other related media, as well as discussing and reflecting on this knowledge with my co-owner that I might better understand and implement gameplay function and lore.
Furthemore, I studied dystopian societies and books such as 1984 and the cyberpunk genre to try and better convey the Dystopian environment.

I also plan to go back to writing my once-loved logs. This gives me a chance to flesh out my character more but also to satisfy my urge to have something to write about. I predict that regular reflection with these logs will severely boost my character. In the past, my logs attracted much attention for my unique input on the happenings in the server and I received much acclaim. I hope that this will continue and that my writing will provide both inspiration and assistance to my fellow units and players.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
Life was just starting to look up for Hayes until his cubicle at a feature-less office was blown in half by the Combine invaders. Barely escaping with his life, he found himself trapped amongst the crowds of evacuees, desperately trying to escape, but alas, it was not to be so. Not long after re-grouping with his older brother, Isaac Hayes, he found himself captured by the Combine. A difficult adjustment period followed and Hayes watched riots and rebellion all around the city, quelled with not an ounce of mercy. Of course, he had the good fortune to avoid trouble and the wise idea to steer far away from rebellion. "Someone else will do it" he always thought, but it was more of a blanket thought than anything; his attempt to hide his true feelings, that this was something they had never yet experienced and something they would die experiencing.

"Humanity's spirit always bounces back" they would say, but when was the last time all of humanity was conquered in 7 hours flat with technology further advanced than we could imagine? Hayes didn't hide his feelings either, adopting an angsty teenage-esque string of mood swings and often shying away on his own as minor battle raged all around him.

As the Civil Protection force began to spring up all over, Hayes observed with curiosity. Better food, better authority, better housing, less pain. What was the catch? Not one that Hayes cared for anyway as he began to set about applying.

As he headed out the door that day, he could swear Isaac read his thoughts as they made eye-contact. The look of betrayal in his eyes is a look Zac Hayes will never forget so long as he lives.

And now here he is, taking the plunge and indulging his self-importance. Ego ready to be inflated, Hayes begins to fill out the application, curiosity and intrigue lingering on his mind and a sinister grin creeping over his lips.

Rather than a particular one event, my most memorable experiences were spent on the balcony of a housing block in City 8, smoking a cigarette and discussing what we, the Citizens, had become with a good friend of mine. The chill from the rain is one I could feel in myself and as we hurried off to grab issued raincoats, I truly felt like I was there, gripped in the hands of the CCA, fear and pain at every corner.

At this time, I was fast applying my experiences with Dystopian studies and actually changing things IRL, such as opening the windows to allow the rain to hit me, or turning down the heating for a little chill to try and enhance my roleplay. I encouraged other players to do the same.

I dare say leaning on the balcony smoking with the rain around me was, as strange as it may sound to those not involved, a completely immersed and almost-palpable experience.

I see what the Combine are doing and have done for us. You, the Universal Union, continue to pile heaps and heaps of technology and innovation upon us, teaching us to live outside of our limitations and restrictions and allowing us the distraction-free zone with which to practice our removal from said limitations.

And yet still, malignant scumbags cannot understand. Freedom, they scream for! Do they not understand that we have never been so free?! Do they not understand that we will soon be free of ourselves?! Surely no higher freedom is achievable!

And I see them as they run amok, causing havoc in the calm streets, causing their so-called peers pain and damage with their own actions and ultimately, halting the progress of Humanity and The Universal Union.

I cannot stand by and observe any longer. I must take it into my hands; become another arm of the far-reaching Union. I sacrifice myself, all that makes me and all that I am, that the Union may progress and see off wrong-do'ers.

I cannot stand for rebellion anymore. Humanity cannot stand for rebellion anymore lest it wishes to sign it's own warrant for extinction.

Occupy Main Street (OMS/#OMS) is an IC and OOC movement, campaigning for Roflwaffle to abolish the absurd rules placed upon Admins, which effectively mean that anybody can provoke them into a simple swear word and suddenly, they will face demotion.



At a time where OCRP is reaching critical mass of minging with a lack of administration, two active admins were demoted in less than a week, one of whom plays 9 hours a day. Smithno and Crazyninja.

Smithno was demoted for telling a spammer to "Shut the fuck up". CrazyNinja was demoted for JOKING to a friend about a ban. This friend kept the screenshot as ammunition and gave it to the CG Owner TWO WEEKS LATER because CrazyNinja was ENFORCING THE RULES and would not allow said "friend" to mug a player in a public area.

Roflwaffle has stated his reasoning for this is to avoid harbouring "corrupt admins" and as a result, driving away new and regular players alike. But is telling a spammer to "shut the fuck up" really corrupt? Is a joke the epitome of corruption? Or perhaps, should we look at RTLK?

RTLK spent weeks sticking his fingers into everyone's business, making any decisions he liked and so forth. Despite constant complaints, was he demoted? Like hell he was! Eventually half the damn community threatened and protested until he left. A good 5-10 players left because of his actions. But he was not demoted, no. He took it upon himself to eventually stand down.

Yet these two admins have been fired for that? Surely something is wrong here.

This is where the Occupy Main Street Movement began. Disgruntled by these decisions, working class Hero DeathByKittens took to the streets of Evocity in protest! A hardy band followed him and soon the city was adorned with signs and pickets, each of them protesting the plight of Catalyst-Gaming's administrators. They set up a camp in the BP, with the Mayor's grace, speaking their message to all who would listen. They kept within the laws and supported the mayor and economy by purchasing a steady stream of drinks. Finally, as they prepared for a proper demonstration on Main Street, the camp was forced to close.

And that is why I'm here.

Community. We are not a dictatorship. When the people want something, the people get something. We don't all bow down to Dear Leader Roflwaffle and line his pockets with dollars for letting us be here. When we play here, we play for fun. This isn't some sort of job or forced labour. Now, we have in place an administration team. We trust these people to deal with mingery and rule-breaking.

So how can these great people be tasked with the tedious task of protecting us FOR ABSOLUTELY NO PAYMENT OR COMPENSATION, ONLY THE GOOD OF THEIR HEARTS and yet, Roflwaffle can toss them aside for such mild offences? These aren't highly-trained, highly-professional operatives from some mercenary company, these are fucking bored teenagers, juggling this with whatever other concerns they have.
There is literally no one in this playerbase who would rather Staff were fired rather than a couple of retards sworn at.

I've been here since the first day of OCRP on Orange Cosmos. I've seen it all. I've played more than 99% of this community. I'm not doing this to be a dick. I'm not doing this because Crazy is a good friend. I'm doing this because I goddamn care about the community and the gamemode and the players. I care about the future of OCRP. I can't stand-by and let it all be destroyed. And I will be especially furious if someone decides not to heed my word and the community's concern because they have a superiority complex and like to be right.

The fact of the matter is that we've had 2 of 4 active OCRP admins go down over bullshit. That's not good enough, Roflwaffle, it really isn't. Swearing and joking is not fucking corruption. RTLK is corruption.

So this is why I organised OMS. We players want to organise an IC protest because that's where people will see it. We're not disrupting roleplay and the only drama on OOC is from admins asking us to stop. The benefits of this are:


We want permission to continue the movement in-game for it's IC reasons. We need a way to make it clear to Roflwaffle that change is needed and why not do it with a fun-for-everyone IC event?
