Suggestions / Remove custom skins for CCA under the rank of OFC
« on: April 24, 2013, 12:35:20 PM »
There is no reason for 02's and lower to have custom skins. It actually takes away from the feeling of the game, at least for me. The point of uniforms are to be uniform. Why would low ranking CCA be as distinguished in their appearances as high ranking officers? It defeats the point of the anonymous despotic enforcers assimilated into the greater Combine, losing their individuality. That is why they surrender their names for numbers.

It's annoying to see CCA standing around with each one having their own color of neon lights flashing off their masks. It's lame, too.

Edit: I'm fine with 01's having the trench coat look, but NOT individual differences between the trench coat model..

Outside City 45 / Re: Item Spawns in Outlands
« on: April 23, 2013, 05:42:18 PM »
I do believe a system of random item drops was in the process of being implemented, but let me just tell you this. That is not how you should be spending your time on the server. You do not need weapons or items to roleplay, and searching for an RL hour for them is very bad roleplay. You'd have had a much better time roleplaying then wandering around the forests looking for stuff, and doing that from an IC perspective doesn't make any sense unless you're roleplaying while doing so.
Okay, I understand that we do not need items or weapons to roleplay, but it's Outlands, you need a weapon for self defense, and items such as food are needed rather than lolspawning them in, besides, I had nothing else to do other then some minor PainRP and PassiveRP.

I agree that lolspawning it wouldn't be fun at all, but the fun about outlands is how dangerous it really is. You're low on food and doesn't armed in any way. The only option is to look for supplies without getting into trouble by robbers or animals. You have to search for it in the daylight when you can see the forest, because you will be fucked when the sun goes down and strange things such zombies slowly will be awake and ready to eat what they find. If you don't search for food you will get exhausted and you have the risk of dying.
Even I have also to be careful although I'm heavy armed with an AR2 and a pistol. I got busted by two OTA soldiers in camo who took my radios and therefore were able to track the signal. Lucky they only threw my weapons away which I was able to find again, but they were malfunctioning due to they had separated the parts.

Why would OTA let you live?

So what's the deal here? Can you mug CP for their weapons or not without admin authorization?

Denied HL2RP Suggestions / Re: Centralized citizen housing

When was the last time the combine busted your door down? How many times in the past week? From what I understand it's accepted that arrests happen on a lower basis these days (could be wrong, you obviously have more experience than I, and I respect that).

Of course, it's up to the player if you think that is a good or bad thing. Personally I haven't seen much RP in the plaza, which used to be my favorite place to go as a citizen so I didn't have to deal with the goofs in D6.

Please keep in mind, and I should have clarified this, that I'd much rather some sort of revamp of the terminal hotels instead of another apartment block (which we have more than enough of, as noted by others in this thread).

Well, agreed that it should be the theme. I have never had it happen once in the new map. Most action takes place in P3 these days, and there is no where else I can find where actual citizen RP happens on a normal basis. For example, I've never seen patrols in P2. I buy apartments every now and then on characters, haven't seen a patrol come by yet near the theater. Haven't had the combine break down a door yet. Nobody reports anything because anybody not in P3 is spread out with no activity going on. So the threat is far from looming. Sadly, it's non-existent.

I also sympathize for the combine players, never thought I would, but all I ever see is them standing around the plaza bored.

Yes but they're spread out and not in the same style as the UCH. Traffic in plaza is usually dead from what I can see. There's no place to go where citizen interaction (outside of P3) is facilitated. Nowhere to room with people and hope the combine don't bust down your door.

My fault about the above stuff.

What I meant is without an elevator terminus towers is far too tall. I suggest something like another UCH (an apartment block with 1-2 floors to facilitate traffic and a central area of RP for citizens in the plaza.

Alright, so I want to say off the bat that:

1. Apoc did a great job with the map
2. This is likely impossible to do at this point

Regardless of the mentioned stuff, I think there should be centralized housing for citizens near the plaza (like the UCH). Currently, the hotel has two problems - there are too many floors (disperses traffic) and there is no elevator. The amount of walking required to get to the higher floors is ridiculous. I think this is a reason for the lack of activity in the town square.

Anyways, thoughts?

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Re: CCA Feedback/CWU Feedback
« on: February 19, 2013, 01:50:44 PM »
Is there any specific points you'd like to make about the CWU that needs attention?
Aside from renovating the CWU headquarters. Greater interaction with the CCA may be in order. I know people have been resistant to this for a long time (and with good reason), but it seems the CWU is still in the sad state it was when I left last summer. It should be considered for CWU to be allowed in the Nexus (only with an escort to allow them inside) on a routine basis as backup doctors, chefs, and supply managers.

CWU could also be assigned "apprentices" if they wish. It should be the CCA's job to find one if requested by a Worker (because high-ranking CWU are never on, not because this is some task that should be endemic to the CCA). I propose something like that should allow the apprentice to be added to data logs, putting them higher on the list for promotion to the CWU, and adding the risk of losing their place as an apprentice if they don't follow orders correctly)

I think finding a place for the CWU is a very big problem. They can't be given too many privileges, or it ruins the point of a dystopian city. On the other hand, the current state of the CWU is not convincing anybody to join them. High ranks in the CWU (such as tier-1) should command the respect of CCA. Especially from Rct. to 02. Again, I understand the dangerous line in the CWU crossing the boundary of their fundamental status as a civilian, but I hope some things will be considered.

All ze best

More activity for one. Two, a bit of a reform to make CWU less revolving around sales and more interactive in the City and talk to the CAB more. Maybe some interaction with Union Watch and the little Hate Week I plan on starting. Helping us decorate and set up little stands to provide supplies for citizens.

The CWU base is pitiful. Players are going to be turned away when given the choice between the Nexus and a shack. If you want the CWU to be run down, then that's fine. Nobody should live in luxury in the city. But there is an art to desolation, and what the CWU has right now is just bland. It feels like no time or care was paid to it.

I personally think you are getting confused. The earth is home to trillions of micro species which will long surpass our own existence (assuming we can't escape from this rock). Earth is also home to many other forms of life; mammals, plants, fish and shit. Humans make up a small portion of Earth history and we will eventually die out, through whatever way it happens (assuming we can't get off this rock). If we do die though that does not mean the end of the world, because the world is not made for humans. So if we die in the next 100 years because lol oil war, that means humans are dead, it does not mean the world has ended (and even then humans would probably live on in certain places). No to answer your question specifically its is roughly 1 and half billion years till life on earth ends (if that's what you mean) and it is roughly 8 billion years till the earth is engulfed by the sun.

There its a simple as that, that IS how the world will end, all other theories would have to be coincidence. For example a meteorite large enough to knock us out of orbit and/or completely destroy the planet would not be predictable and could even be preventable depending on our tech.

However you may have meant when will human life end. Well gee again that is a very hard question to answer (sort of). Assuming we live long enough and don't make it off the planet and don't get a dooms day war we have time limit of roughly 600 million years. After that due to carbon dioxide levels rising (assuming this doesn't happen early because of global warming or something) plant life will no longer be sustainable and there will be an unbalance of oxygen causing majority species to die out (including us, assuming we don't come up with some fancy way of artificially converting oxygen and holding back the suns rays, or some bull shit like that). But we could die early? Perhaps, but it would be difficult. The largest known disease ever wiped out roughly 5% of the human population, bearing in mind that this was at a point where medical science was less developed and the human population was much smaller. So we can kind of scratch that out :P

Then there is nuclear warfare, for whatever reason. This again is unlikely, if you wondering why, do some research on the cold war and look up MAD theory. Seriously, unless the world leaders all had negative IQ nuclear Armageddon that cause full extinction is an unlikely scenario and shouldn't be looked at as something that is likely.

But who knows, perhaps a 'skynet' scenario will take place, or maybe shit tons of zombies will appear for some reason (but then in some senses that would simply be an evolutionary step backwards and it would just be another form of humans, a homo immortui if you will. And we can't forget that on the verge of discovering Fusion and other great leaps in science we could probably sustain ourselves in a different region of space. If that is the case though we have a maximum of 10^10^120 years (give or take) before the universe is fully black (lol racism) and there is no chance then of survival (assuming we can't figure out how to leave the universe, but I could go on and on).

tl;dr Earth has minimum of 8 billion years before destruction
Humans have anywhere between 600 million years (earth become uninhabitable) to 10^10^120 (universe become nutin') years before definite death (assuming we are not killed sooner)

Here is the problem with the MAD theory, and I'm not trying to sound like some propagandist, by some of these Islamic zealots are willing to crash themselves into buildings to fulfill their sick agendas. Pakistan has nukes. I am very worried that some nutjob can get their hands on a weapon like that and take a city out. Or Pakistan could just start a global war on its own. Pakistan isn't even in control of its own territory. Honestly, I think the U.S. doesn't acknowledge this because we have no idea how to stop it.
