Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Re: Beginning a New Form of Resistance RP

Well, I'll find a name anyway. IC Chat section for sign-ups, I'll have them up in about 30 minutes to an hour. Or less, possibly.

Liberators is taken? That idea's out. And you assassinate units with makeshift knives with attempts, Kevlar, 2016 editions are weak at the neck (Like the Uruks) and we can easily stab them in the back of the neck... Until we get new methods. And yeah... I have a Combine Civil Authority unit and for units, it's always a PK. Wish they could do NLR kills for units.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Beginning a New Form of Resistance RP
« on: April 25, 2012, 12:25:00 PM »
Mmkay. I've seen SOOOOO many webuls and minges pretending to be Gordon Freeman, and I may not have played HL2 or any expansions for it, but I know one thing. Rebels didn't run to District 6 to evade units. I will use District 6 sometimes, like for meetings, but I've decided to make a second character.

Teaser name: "The Liberator" (Not the Planetside and Planetside 2 soon to be bomber/gunship combo). I'm gonna show a lot of people the means of rebellion. Check the IC Chat section for more info once I get it posted. I haven't thought of a name for the Resistance group yet, I'll need as many ideas as I can get. As the player of a CCA unit, 036, and soon to be, "The Liberator", I would like to (Warning, you've all heard this before)

Have District 6 open to the CCA. That will give the webuls and mingebags nowhere to hide. And it will make Resistance RP come around much more. Think. We could hide in the different apartments, UCH and D6 Apartments like they did in HL2. We could hold secret meeting, assassinate units, throw propaganda around, and then we'll REALLY be a problem for the Civil Protection. Evading units isn't mingerunning. It's sticking in the shadows, trusting only those who can be trusted, and TACTICS.

So... That's all the info I'm going to give for now.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Re: Regarding The Minge Problem
« on: April 24, 2012, 11:42:44 AM »
And when there are no adminisrators on, the mingebags come. When they come back, the admins come back and the minges all DC out to avoid ban and RP. I still agree with you. It's not normal players doing it. It's PERP and DarkRP, I mean DeathmatchRP players thinking HL2RP is the same thing and they can minge around and not get banned and will endlessly try /votecp to get guns and go on mass RDM/NLR sprees. If they ever get their hands on a gun or weapon they simply ruin RP. So, really. Administrators need to BOS or KOS these players. Banning on Sight and Kicking on Sight is probably the only way they'll learn.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Regarding The Minge Problem
« on: April 24, 2012, 11:22:35 AM »
In the past couple of weeks, HL2RP (City Server) has had an outbreak of mingebags. Suitcases climbers, failRPers, mingerunners, trolls, the like. We need to begin enforcing RP more in the server. Some citizens even RP good, they get into the CCA and when they finally get their hands on a gun they go on a mass-RDM spree. It's starting to get ridiculous. Just yesterday, a guy named: Barrack Obama was minging around with his friends and running all over the place, and when ICly RP shot in the leg kept running. One citizen of whom I was detaining replied with a /me, WHILE I HAD A 9mm TO HIS HEAD: SmartCoolAwesome person turns around, pulls out his knife and stabs the cop and takes his gun and shoots him in the head gordon wins combine lose No joke. The steady flow of DarkRP players is starting to get on my nerves and only one or two want to learn how to RP.

Yeah... I'm gonna send it in a PM after editing, how do ya take down a post?

For some reason I can't post a reply on that certain topic, so I'll post it here.

Now, Cow, or the player of Nick Jackson, said that a 04 detained him for running 4 steps. Well, I'm that 04 and it's not my decision whether I detain you or not and if you ran 1 or 10,000 steps, I HAVE to, unless you didn't play HL2 and never learned that units would randomly beat citizens so in CG servers you're getting off easy. I didn't even play HL2 and I learned all the canon on the wiki. You also were only waiting about 7 minutes outside of the Nexus until you MINGERAN to District 6. The time would have been shorter if you had stopped arguing OOCly about it for 4 minutes straight.

And you also said I said you HAD to use grammar/punctuation in OOC/LOOC. No, I didn't say that. Get it right. I said I PREFERRED to use it in ALL types of chat because I'm used to it after years of doing it.

And later on, you and Jerry Newman failRP kidnapped me and brought me to District 6 ANYWAY. Don't say stuff like that without knowing the facts. I agree that the units yelling: Isolate! can be ridiculous at times, but if you're in a lockdown, that makes for GREAT RP. You need to learn to be able to create RP everywhere and in any situation regardless of circumstances.

And I do see the High Command on a lot, usually DvLs and sometimes a CmD, plus OverWatch and SCN support. Although SeC are quite rare, they are on more than you think.

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Less time for HL2RP
« on: April 22, 2012, 02:34:14 PM »
Okay, I think this goes in the inactivity forum, but I will still be partially active. I need to start devoting LESS time to Garry's Mod/HL2RP. I haven't been spending much time with my guildmates and preparing to make a campsite outside Gamestop for when Planetside 2 comes out, so I'm going to be devoting 1-2 hours a day ONLY. I can't do 8-hour around marathons anymore. Thanks for reading, this was mostly directed at server administrators so they'll know why I haven't been playing as much. Bump this to the inactivty forum if this counts as inactivity.

Zaughi Smith's Civil Authority Application

OOC Name: Zaughi

IC Character Name: Zaughi Smith

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.
My character wants to join the CCA because of seeing first-hand the destruction and chaos the rebels cause. He thinks that by joining the Civil Protection this can be stopped. He believes the Combine are a means of reducing the Xen alien problem and keeping the citizens from joining the rebellion. Zaughi thinks that they should learn to think of the Combine as a new ally instead of an alien force come to kill the planet.

The rebels are also a problem to the Universal Union technology, because they have attempted to disable the Antlion Wards, or Thumpers, so the Antlions could get in. They have tried to break down anything that the Combine built. They spray paint the Nexus with propaganda and take down Combine enforcement posters. This is the opposite of essential for the Universal Union and every citizen living in the city.

This means the rebels could be no better than the Combine. At first, he was afraid of the Combine. Now he feels proud to be among them. What truly led him to join the Combine was the advancement of Union Tech. He wants to assist the Combine in their teleportation needs across planets. In his mind, they aren't invaders. They are a race looking for help with teleportation and came to Earth to find a way to do it by copying human teleportation technology. It is all clear to him. The Combine are the future.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
He is a core Combine die-hard. He works for the greater good and reported ANY crime he has witnessed, Assists in finding rebels and anti-citizens in whatever dark holes and corners they hide. If ordered by a Combine or Civil Protection unit, he will carry out that order immediately, even at the cost of his life. He finds himself indifferent among the Combine.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.
Joining the CCA will be a drastic change in responsibility for my character. He will be taking the weight of the safety of every citizen in the City onto his shoulders. He will have to cut his ties to anything that he could have done on Old Earth as a human being. This would be like changing his entire race, and betraying his own. He would give up his freedom, or what's left of it.

I believe my character will be able to handle it. He did when he rebels attacked. He kept calm and made sure they were disposed of. Combine Civil Authority also has its benefits in the eyes of my character, but what he does not know is that his entire mind would be reprogrammed in the eyes of the Combine. He understands that he will receive better living conditions than Citizens and Union Civil Workers, and that he will be treated with respect among the Combine. Although, in his mind the Combine is best choice for him.

4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.
The portal attack began 7 months after his graduation. He had done well there with both his degrees and an A+ in all his college courses. He finished by 26 years old (two years before the events in City 45) and got a job at a technology development company. This company built parts for mechanical structures. He enjoyed his job and was well-paid.
I remember the portal invasion like it was yesterday. At the time I was delivering a newly constructed computer to an office complex two blocks off Wall Street. That computer was a good one. Me and my co-workers, James, Mark and Willis spent countless hours on it. We enjoyed a nice LAN party of Call of Duty 11: Modern Warfare 6 after the computer was done. I remember how we had laughed when an V-44 Gunship had dropped a package on his player.  After that when I had left the parcel at the front door, massive black holes opened and Xen aliens began to pour out like a tide against shore. Soon the gigantic Combine Synth war machines came behind them, leaving a trail of destruction in their path. The Striders, Crab Synths and Dropships. The Combine attack on New York City was so powerful the military and police force was overwhelmed in sheer minutes. The complex I was delivering the parcel to? Well, let’s just say that anyone inside will be deeply mourned.  The streets were lifeless, barren. I heard strange sounds coming from only 10 feet from me. They seemed to be surrounding all around the block. The unknown was everywhere. Was it a natural phenomenon? Was this the end? The last I remembered from that day was turning around.

The first City he had ever entered was City 18. He was inside a small box, in his eyes. Truly he was inside a Combine APC on his way into the newly constructed City built using Combine construction methods. The doors of the vehicle opened, and a very strong, Kevlar-dressed man half-shouted “Get out! Move”! As he got out, it looked like a quarantine. It must have been a Russian town because the architectural style of non-Combine buildings and some of the inhabitants spoke Russian. How could he be here? It seemed like it was just yesterday that he was in NYC, or maybe it WAS yesterday. He probably had been teleported here. He walked down the street that normally would be full of citizens walking and cars in the road, but really it was the men in gas masks walking on the road, there were towers in the road and the citizens were either backed up against a wall or inside. He watched as four citizens, all of them looked like janitors due to their clothing, were shoved against a wall by two men wearing gas masks wielding MP7 Sub-Machine Guns. All four were lined up and shot once in the head. Zaughi stepped backwards, horrified at the murder scene in front of him.

They noticed him watching, and told him to move along. He did so, not wanting the same fate as the janitor-looking men. As he looked around him, he began to see other people. But they were all dressed in blue! No difference in clothing. Everyone wore the exact same thing, not including the men with gas masks and Kevlar vests and the ones who looked larger, talked funny and wore different armor than their gas masked fellows. He decided it was simply life that had happened, there was an alien invasion and he was going to try and live through it. After a few weeks of observing the motives of the aliens, now knowing they were called Combine, and he began to respect them over time. They seemed to be working for the greater good. He was asked by a “Civil Protection” officer why he wasn’t collecting his rations, and when he asked what the officer meant he directed Zaughi to a small building labeled: Ration Distribution Terminal. If that meant food, he was fine with it. He walking inside and waited his turn in the line.

Suddenly the man behind a patiently waiting citizen in the front tackled him and pushed him out of the way. Two of the officers began whacking the man with electric batons until he collapsed on the floor. They pulled him out of the building and the man in the front took his place again. A Civil Protection unit ordered him to follow him. He did so and they entered what looked like a train station. He was told to get on the train and he did so. That was the last he remembered for City 18.
Zaughi Smith had woken up in the train station on a bench in City 45. He could remember one thing and that was that he had been relocated. Again.  He noticed a discarded can lying on the floor, so he picked it up and tossed it into a nearby trash can. Unknown to him, an APEX unit had observed this, and had thought "Hmph. At least it’s better than nothing”. Zaughi continued through the train station and when asked to apply, did so right away. He opened the doors, which opened to the, what he saw beautiful Combine architecture of City 45. He had always wondered what the barricades were made from.

As he walked into the square of District 1, he saw a citizen shoved up against a wall by a Civil Protection officer. The citizen resisted judgment and attacked the officer. Zaughi ran towards the man and held him back and allowed the officer to tie him. The officer nodded towards Zaughi and began to drag the man into the Nexus. He felt quite happy with himself for assisting the Combine in stopping a crime. He had observed City Scanners from his apartment; A6. He took notes on all the scan bot’s features and parts, including the small wings on the side, the turbine wheel, and the “head” on it, which was also being used as a wing. He noted how the tail must have been used for ordinance. The scanner went around the city, and even flew up to his window. Although the flash annoyed him, he still found the scanners amazing. We wondered if they piloted themselves or if the Combine remotely flew them.

During his exploits around the city, he had been lucky enough to witness a Hunter-Chopper. Not very different than the Pave Lows and Ospreys before the portal attack in strength, weapons and build, although very different in appearance. He observed it for a while, learning the pilot’s codename, Falcon 3-6, but a storm came, and the rotors were struck by a lightning bolt (No joke, this ACTUALLY HAPPENED) and it crashed on the roof the RDT building, causing a medium-sized fire. The Civil Protection units in the area had doused the fires, although debris had been scattered everywhere, injuring one citizen and a DvL. He gained Loyalist status through cleaning up District 1. He also earned three points by cleaning the entire District 2 Hardpoint. He was given a Loyalist Armband by a High Command officer for this. Now pleased with himself for his accomplishment, he moved into District 6 after applying with an officer first. He spoke to two men who claimed to be the “Liberators of Earth”. They talked for a while over the Combine, arguing whether the Combine were a blessing or a curse. On his way through the District alleyways, he heard loud noises and clanking coming from inside the bar. He listened closer, and heard a man with a booming voice speak about a rebellion. Zaughi knocked on the door, and the man said “Enter!”, so he entered, deciding to learn of their plans before reporting it. They served whiskey, beer and unbranded melons, but he dared not buy any due to it being contraband. He learned that the rebels were armed with knives and 9mm pistols, their leader a shotgun, and were going to attack the Combine forces in City 45 and attempt to take over District 1 in one hour. He had to admit: The revolutionists WERE organized. They wanted to have a firefight on the streets. The man with the booming voice asked him to follow him, and he did so. He learned that the man was an undercover Civil Protection Shock High Command unit who was sent to find the rebellion plans. He wondered if this counted as a sweep, but even today that question is not answered. Zaughi had explained what he heard outside with the two rebels, and then exited the District. Not only thirty minutes later, he had passed a blockade of Civil Protection officers and a Combine Overwatch Soldier protecting the Hardpoint. As the rebels began to pour out, he watched as they engaged eachother in the streets. The Combine had driven in an Armored Personnel Carrier full of Combine Overwatch Soldiers (Actually, only 2 soldiers, and it was simply a jeep welded to an APC prop, also in which the Overwatch soldiers were on two Jeep Seats on top of the APC), which ended the combat with the rebels.  He took note of the Combine weaponry and vehicles. He decided that the rebels were no better than the Combine and decided to sign up after thinking for a while, wandering around District 1. Now that his decision was made, he walked towards the Nexus to hand in his application. On his way, a citizen shoved him nearly over, taking his application and yelling “I’m getting mine in first”! Zaughi would have reported him for yelling and running, but there were no Civil Protection units around. He walked over to the man, now quite annoyed. He began to speak to the man in a tone barely suitable to be spoken to a human being, and finally got the man to apologize and (15 paragraphs of roleplaying later) give him his application back. (I actually wrote a fake application on a piece of paper in-game to make this story half-true, but it now lies in a canal in District 6). And that’s when he woke up. It was all a dream. The Combine, the rebels, City 45, all a dream. Well, that was until the Civil Protection kicked down his apartment door and began it all with a: “You. Loyalist. Come with me.” (I hope you have enjoyed this OOC short-story for my CCA application).

5) Have you ever had a CCA character here at Catalyst Gaming?  If so, explain why it was removed.
No.

OOC Details

1. How long have you played on role-playing servers in general?
7 months.

2. How long have you played on serious servers?
6 months.

3. How long have you played on Catalyst Gaming?
3 months.

4. What Time zone are you in?
Eastern.

5. In what country do you live?
United States

6. How old are you?
28

7. Whats your most memorable quality RP experience?
The day I was roleplaying (non-Garry’s Mod) with my 8 guildmates, closest friends of mine, in Everquest 2. We had such a great time, acting like we were gods and ruining the dreams of dungeon mobs. We’d use so many emotes after we killed them, and Qorant was all like, I’m sorry I crushed your dreams, orc, but I really wanted to loot your bacon and cheese… BACON!!! Was the greatest roleplay moment in the history of the Permafrost server.  If it has to be Garry’s Mod RP, it was during HL2RP, when a Hunter-Chopper crashed on a roof causing a fire. My character collected a bucket of canal water and gave to an officer to douse the fire.

8. Do you consider yourself a good listener?
Yes. I do more listening than speaking

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / Re: CCA Application Question
« on: March 23, 2012, 12:47:17 PM »
Thanks, this helped much. I do know my canon althought I've only played the HL2 Demo. (Thank god for wikia.com)  I know my writing is at perfection. And cliche crap like that? What a waste of story writing. Final question: What the heck is up John Doe? I know he's an example name, but really? Why John Doe? Possibly a HL2 character I never knew?

Half-Life 2 Roleplay / CCA Application Question
« on: March 21, 2012, 04:12:55 PM »
I'm wondering how many words has to be on my application to have a chance. Mine has 1299 words so far. Is that enough? I failed the first one because it wasn't long enough. My second needs to be perfect.

28
Mapping / Re: Four questions about Hammer editing.
« on: March 21, 2012, 03:00:01 PM »
Okay, I'm totally new to the mapping buisness using Hammer instead of Torque. I don't know what developer textures are, exactly. Not sure of the keybind for Snap To Grid. Adjusting brushes? I'm really THAT new. I'm doing minor entities and block detail so far. And I see everyone else doing 3D skyboxes on Garrysmod.org, so... I'll find out about that later.

29
I see. Just thought it should be a bit shorter, like one week. Because my application is already in order, and it hasn't even been one week yet.

30
I screwed up two things on my CCA application. The backstory wasn't fully complete and something else. I fixed them both, the backstory going from 399 words to 1100, and I'm still writing. But I'll definetely be finished WAY before 2 weeks. It's such a long wait time. Is there any way they could make it shorter? 2 weeks is a bit harsh.
