Title: Forum RP 'slot'(?)
Post by: wag1 on December 10, 2011, 08:08:29 PM
Well, it's just a suggestion really. I don't know if -any- of you like to forum RP but it's very fun. It could be a place for those who wish to practice their creative writing or hone their RP skills could in fact, do so. It would be placed under 'other games'. Anyways, that's my suggestion.

Pros+

-A good place to hone RP skills/Creative writing
-Nice place for people to chillax

Cons

-Takes up space on the forums
-Possibly end up unwanted/unused

I've never actually tried it, maybe I will if it's ever done.

It's quite a steep learning curve, but it becomes quite fun afterwords. I've only been doing it for about a year or so but I can say that it does get really fun with the right people.

We own a series of Roleplay servers and instead you want to roleplay on the forum... Makes sense to me.

While the servers are great, it's nice to do some ForumRP every once in a while. Trust me, some Forum-RPs get really fun.

Can you expand on what it is exactly?

Forum RP is when a few people start up a Story line, and write various stories about their characters. As you write a story, you try to incorporate the other characters along with it. It's hard to explain :L

It's like rping in-game, except minus the visual aid. You have to write more detailed descriptions and stuff, and there's also more room for you to develop your character beyond the one-liners OA allows you. I typically write a good paragraph and a half for a forum rp post, lol. (Part of the reason why I take so long in-game is because I'm used to having hours to revise and develop my posts and stuff LOL)

Pretty much this.

What makes it unique though is that your not really limited to anything... Which is a bad thing sometimes.

I remember doing something like this on Bungie.net, but alas, the guy who was running the Rp went inactive, and as such, it was closed down. But, I would love to have something like this going on CG, come to think it, that fourm Rp was probably the first ever Rp I've ever started.

Sounds like a good idea to me, myself and fear were thinking about doing something like this a while back. But he was banned and all.

Forum RP was my first 'serious' RP. Probably the best I have ever had.

And Skep, what were you guys planning to do?

He wanted to create a forum RP based around an Idea he created, which was somewhat inspired by an anime he was watching but assured me it had nothing to do with it. (Because I hate anime.) It sounded like a really good idea and I was going to bring it forward to waffle to create it's own dedicated thread for it, but we never ended up doing it because he was banned.

Very Nice idea! It would be nice for the users to get help and learn how to better RP in different fields and situations. It would also be a great way to promote character diversity and to be yourself.

Hoyl shet necropost

Anyways, forum RP boards have no exact theme, the players create their own in each RP that they start.

So I can RP as a mob boss driving in a voodoo s like car doing drivebyes with my Jamaican crew?

Edit: I'm actually going to do this, so no not trolling.

Well, if this is really serious, you can. What you'd have to do though is find someone doing a modern RP kind of thing.

Seems fun...
I think it's a good idea to practice RP.

I'm always serious.. Explain, because I don't understand. Are you going to roleplay in the middle ages or earlier?
This suggestion lacks.. details. Would there have to be some kind of sub-forums for different times or something?

How are we not going to derail it/post the wrong thing?

None of you know what Forum RP is... D;

Forum RP is a board, where you create a Role-Playing situation/story/what ever. Technically, in that board I could make a post called "Fallout RP". In that post, I would label the rules and what ever needs to be said. Then, users could post in that post about what their characters do and little stories. It's almost like IC logs, but a bit different. You're telling a tale, really.

Of course, if someone shit posts in it or attempts to derail it, you just punish them for being a cock.

How about you make one in Spam. - Make it extremely serious, as the rules say Spam is usually the place for some topics.
You'll have my support if it works out.

We own a series of Roleplay servers and instead you want to roleplay on the forum... Makes sense to me.

Servers have scripts which include items, guns, and whitelists, which means people powergame and the game is no longer truely about roleplaying. In forum RP, it is true, honest to goodness roleplay.

On another server, I had a forum RP called "God Wars" And you apply for it, and you have your realm, you character's (god's) Name. Then we duke it out. Pretty fun.

This would be amazing, I find myself drifting to other forums (sometimes) to Role Play, but those forums are full of dickheads so I dont do it for very long.

Keep thinking about this suggestion, Bumpity bump bump, must be fully evaluated!
Title: Re: Forum RP 'slot'(?)

Considering it was recently bumped, I'll give my input.

Forum Roleplay is MUCH more detailed compared to some of the stuff that goes on amongst the servers; as such, it's a great way for players to hone their vocabularies (it was where I learned a majority of my grammatical skills at a rather young age), as well as a great way for people to expand their writing skills in general. There's a strange social element to it, too, and could serve to build up an additional community within the Catalyst forums themselves.

A VERY loose set of rules/expectations might be a given, but other than that it would be a great addition to the forums; the only cost being a slot on the forums.

It would be an ancillary board, but useful and engaging nonetheless; the freeform style it would allow people to interact in would be both fun and engaging for the RPing aspect of the community as a whole.

If it doesn't work out, it can just be deleted, anyways.

That could be fun.. I could always use the extra RP when I'm not on my gaming computer.. Although I'm not sure a lot of people would want to do this. But it's a +Support
