General Discussion / Re: PC Build
« on: December 18, 2013, 12:48:47 PM »
I guess being a dev means synthetic and real world tests can be disregarded.

I do agree though, I have had dev build before the public test of 8 and it has been complete crap.
Not sure if any of you had this problem but depending on the license you were given/bought/stole you have different update times. My computers at work update well before my home PC does and they both run the same build.

Being a developer doesn't change the fact that synthetic benchmarks can be disregarded, it's the fact that an average person get's hooked in by some simple benchmarks.

Synthetic benchmarks are called that for a reason, they are built to try emulate real-word scenarios but I have yet to see one which actually corresponds to real-world performance. I have also tried Windows 8 since the developer preview, and 8.1 but they still seem to have a seriously bad problem with SLI performance, specifically micro-stuttering.

It has been more than enough time for this problem to be fixed by Nvidia, and it seems like it isn't as simple as that and it's actually a operating system level problem.

Until I see from my own physical tests of games working to identical if not better performance than Windows 7 on Windows 8, I will not support Windows 8/8.1 in any way. As in every single test, each split by at least 5-6 months the problems have not been solved/partially solved.

Suggestions / Re: Selling cars in ocrp.
« on: December 18, 2013, 12:25:21 PM »
If this were to be added, it would have to use a huge amount of degradation on the resale value after you have bought it.

Like IRL, you buy a car and try sell it the next year, more common cars and companies will have far larger degradation on the resale value than say a more expensive, reliable car.

So, something like an Audi would lose 5-15% of it's value over the first year (not a year ingame, perhaps a week)

And something like a Vauxhall would lose 15-30% in it's first year (a week ingame)

Benchmarks vs. Real-world tests.

There is no comparison, I develop on windows, I had the developer preview which was out before anyone else got their hands on it, it is bloody terrible.

Stick with Windows 8/8.1 until it's proven to atleast boost game performance and compiling time, Windows 7 has stood the test of time and it is one of the best operating systems you can get currently.

I guess you are forgetting that I am actually a developer and the speel of "I use benchmarks @ work" proves nothing.

No, do not go with Windows 8.1

Windows 7 is still the best plan for an operating system as Windows 8/8.1 is not optimized for gaming and actually knocks a large motherfucking chunk out of your gaming performance. It also has a bunch of limitations if you ever plan to do any development on them.

All in All, Windows 8/8.1 is a pile of shit.

Let's just say I nearly cried when I seen Ghosts n Stuff pop up, my ears were also very angry.

If Ghost n Stuff wins, I'm adding a god damn "mute" button which switches it to elevator music.

This is just sick minded and fucked up in the head, to even find this remotely funny is completely insane.

I will not be adding this to the gamemode - Denied.

The AMD card might be slightly better but it can consume up to 50% more power than Nvidia's and pump out far more heat.

You pay the premium on nvidia for better efficiency and heat reduction.

General Discussion / Re: Yes another PC build post...

The "Value Build" is the good option, as said from the reddit post:

Change the CPU from FX 6300 to a 8350. The 6300 isn't much better than the Phenom series chips, I previously had a Phenom and an 6300.

No noticeable difference except the price. The 8350 is still the best AMD cpu on the bang for buck scale, great for threaded applications and also great for gaming due to the sheer GHZ (4GHZ per core [Take into consideration that there is really only 4 cores and AMD lie about it having 8, it's 4 Cores, 4 Threads giving a logical number of 8 cores])

As for that PSU, get atleast a 750w. it's running dangerously close with a 8350 and that GPU. you want to have your PSU running at a maximum of 80% constantly. Also make sure it's a "Real" 750w and not a cheap shitass PSU which has a rating of 750w.

I suggest getting a PSU from OCZ, prefferably a 80Plus Gold rating.

Save a little longer for a GTX 660, the GTX 650 is good in all but the major flaw which nearly caught me off was this;

NO SLI support, I was about to buy two GTX 650's to luckily find out that they didn't have SLI connectors. I then saved a little longer and bought two GTX 660's, they have served me well for 2 years now running everything I throw at it max without a sweat.

So, if you want to make your PC upgrade ready, save a little more and get a GTX 660.

Sadly, I will be handing these cards to my father soon as Star Citizen seems like it might just beat my streak of playing everything maxed out. Next stop : Gtx 770 SLI!

Suggestions / Re: turbo
« on: November 20, 2013, 11:41:07 AM »
This is in no way related to the IRL equivalent to a Turbo, sounds far more like NOS.

That's why I suggested having to refill the nos tank as a Turbo works constantly, requires no more fuel and can give your engine up to 40% more performance at certain RPM's.

Turbos also help when hauling heavy weight, basically giving your car more torque.

Also, I kinda find that it ruins the fun for the fact that every car could get this Nos system and refill it easily (Where as in a normal instance, this can cause damage to your engine and even destroy engines in shitty cars). It should be limited to a fair extent, not just on the cost side of things.

If I am to overhaul the turbo (nos) system, I am making it so when you hold shift and it boosts up to speed.

Another thing, I will expect it to be a one use item which empties your nos tank and requires refilling from a hidden/illegal NPC.

The cars have 2 skins, 1 gloss one matt? I'm sure it can be added to the modification menu to change your paint style.
The gloss, there are alteast 4 skins, they have candy glow on them, so you can set it to strait black and set the skin to red tint and the sun will make it have a slight gleem of gloss red.

Never knew that one, i'll work on it tonight.

Pretty much confirmed, I just need to have a look at how I can get a full reliable list of the bodygroups a certain entity has.

(will try ent:getBodyGroups())

If this works, I will then need to do some editing of the saving so that it keeps all our modifications.

ETA. 2 Weeks (Got a ton of other stuff to do before it)
Ent:GetBodygroupCount()

Anyway, this sounds like a very cool idea. Can't wait to see it.

Got it working with Ent:GetBodyGroups()

That function lists all of the body groups an ent has, which makes it super easy to setup!
Managed to quickly russtle up a tool in 10 minutes which works perfectly :D
