IC Character Name: James Bryan

1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.

The reason James Bryan would like to join the Union is more or less influenced by his beliefs, he believes that since the Union proved itself dominate and the only true authority to apprehend years of warfare on earth, that it was simply they who he should follow and uphold their authority.  Theres other common intrests for the average Citizen that comes into play with James also, such as quality of food, James would do anything to get his body to the way it was before the war, he would do anything to eat normally like he did before the war aswell.  A small minor reason for his joining is the building of his character, he believes that by joining the Union, his personality will alter and to socially acceptable standards.

2) Please detail your characters traits. (Eg, Pure, Lawful, Trustworthy)
Hes generally a nice guy in public, hes street smart due to his past.  James is also a trustworthy man. (Only to those he works with or people with his common aim.)  Socially unaccepted by the average person. (Apparently due to his beliefs.)  Finally he is Paranoid when facing large groups (Except those he can trust.)


3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character?
Thanks to Trivium, I got a good insight of what to expect from this Union, I know this Union is a lot diffrent due to strictness, I know theres diffrent proceedures, Responce codes, "SoPs" (Standard Operation Proceedures), another thing I couldnt help but notice is the recruits (Most of them) act the way a recruit should do following the "Citizen in a suit" rule.

My character on the other hand expects to see something he looked for almost his all life, people like him who have similer own beliefs, he hopes to actually for once befriend his fellow Units and make sure his beliefs remain intact by defending the Union, he also wishes to build himself up, by that he means fixing how people look at him as a socially unaccepted man.


4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.

To be honest, I based a lot of recently learned traits of my own on this character, I thought "What would it be like to roleplay a character who fared in a world like we know in Half Life".  What I found intresting on this character also was the fact of missing a limb (Being a finger).  I thought it may raise questions to others about his missing finger and thrus create decent roleplay.  Making my character very "Diffrent" from the common average character, I thought I might provoke totally diffrent questions and situations then I roleplay on my other characters.  I also thought the idea of him being paranoid in large groups would be a nice trait as well and it encourages me to display fear in the open to everyone around him, also again provoking a diffrent experiance and diffrent form of roleplay to others.  I generally find James Bryan could be very diffrent to roleplay, so if I can show this and inspire others, I am happy that I could do so.

Whats also intresting is if he does happen to join the Union, what changes will I naturally notice occure in his personality?  To be honest, if my unit happens to run through the ranks I hope my character displays a completely diffrent personality from the Common experianced Officer, that means I hope he wont neccecerly become a cold unit much like higher ranking units.

I was beaten as a child because of a belief I have, I am loyal.  I will aslong as it does benefit the Union in some way.

 Yes, I do.  And if I would take responsibillity, and be damn well proud of the cause for punishing me for a mistake I may make.

6. Why do you want to join the Combine Civil Authority?

As a child, I was beaten by a number of people because I had beliefs that this world had to be defeated by one nation or group.  The Union proved that my belief was right.  I owe my self to be part of that Union, I also would like to be served a greater ration then what is normally given at the Terminal.  The thought excites me, it sends a shiver through my spine, a shiver of excitement.

Back Ground: Born to a middle class family in society, James was the son of a father who owned a family business.  Born in Hertfordshire, North East London. James grew up being known as the odd child, socially unaccepted by others his age at the age of six.  He went to a normal school like any other though had an difficult time in education as he had learning difficulties when it came to both reading and spelling, though his math was exceptional for his age.  As James grew in age he found himself in family difficulties between his parients who clashed regulary eventually leading to devorce, James was split from his father and remained with his mother, his contact with his father being minimal.  By the age of Twelve, James found his life and personality changing rapidly, finding himself becoming more acceptable in terms of education when it came to his english as his spelling and reading improved all apart from his writing, aswell as his math began to drop.  James found himself acceptable when it came to lituriture yet his social life remained the same, still a Socially unaccepted child as he approched his teen ages.


James found himself soon at the age of Six-teen with a mind for creativity and warfare, and yet strangely a alternative accepted view on life itself.  Bringing together war and life, James believed humanity only excisted to fight itself repetivly, and if the cycle could be broken Humanity itself had proven itself. During this time, he fell in love with a girl his age, feeling the right to tell her his beliefs he was betrayed by her as she told everything he held secret about himself to others.  James found himself one day cleaning a car for no more then a pound when he was ganged up by three teenagers of his own age and a recently turned adult who attacked him in public claiming his beliefs where no more then somthing sick and untrue.  James fought viciously before being over powered, his face being smashed into the window screen of the car.  The adult took a knife from his pocket putting it to his index finger, removing the finger from his body while he screamed out in pain.  From then on James grew a hate for people and believed he could trust no one no more.  He became paranoid that people was out to harm him.  What started from a child who was simply unaccepted by others because of his diffrence  became a child who was paranoid and disliked society.

James reaching his prime ages found himself being relocated by the govenment to London during the portal storms, after which James found himself hiding inside a basement of a strangers home while war ensued outside during the Unions reckoning.  James emerged from the Basement, dusty and coughing from the gas and dust while the world he once knew was now gone.  He found his life changing immiediently. Looking at how the Union managed to sack his world in a decisive blow thanks to the govenments idea of Cordoning everyone into citys, James felt the Union was nothing more then a Monolith, somthing that proved Humanity didnt need to fight after one large war ensued.

Now James works for ownership of a Loyalist armband. James must gain as many Loyalist points as he can so he may became part of this so called "Monolith". His Journy begins here.

Personality: Hes bright, a nice male so it appears to the crowed, he is sometimes socialy awkward without realising it. Harsh when it comes to what he believes in.  He is also quite forcefull and likely will not take no for a awnser when there is no winning outcome  for what he believes in or benefit in what he requests in.
