Title: Question
Post by: Lonke on October 02, 2011, 02:54:08 PM
What's the name of the music playing when you're at the character menu?

The music is by The Prodigy, the name of the music is called Omen, but it's only a small excerpt from the full piece.

Also, I'd refrain from making topics for a single question, just use the shout-box.

As Ducky said, i asked in shoutbox twice. Got no answer.

Why do we use that song for the opening character screen?  It seems too upbeat for the passive town of half life two role play.
Besides the last thing we need is more mingebags.

Why do you really care? Its an intro song which in no way affects the gameplay.

It just kind of wrecks the mood, IMO. It should be dark, something with some low strings and brass to invoke a feeling of dread. HL2RP isn't a rave.

The character load menu is far apart from in game roleplaying... Technically the load menu isn't ic so it should not affect rp.

But if you should continue to use the upbeat sound it makes people think of it is more exciting than it is.  We should change it to one of the stock half life to one of this stock and half life to music clips like the combine theme.  There are a lot of other role play servers that use this and it seems to work for them.

It makes existing RP more enjoyable, and lets new players know that it's a dark story and not RPing as a rebel who goes on badass rampages, because that's certainly the feel I get from the current jingle.

Yep, just because the music's not "IC" doesn't mean it affects the way new players perceive the server. We're talking first impressions and shit here.

Besides I also think it is kind of loud and annoying after a while.  Could be refreshing to have a change in server once in awhile.  Besides the map of course.

I'm almost positive that people would rather here something uplifting then some overused hl2 song.

I'm almost positive that people would rather hear something depressing than Catalyst Gaming's overused intro music.

Seriously, I didn't say we had to rip it from hl2. Most of the hl2 music is just atmosphere anyway.

I would however prefer something darker rather than uplifting to show the theme of the game.
